I love the fact that this gentleman is living with these cars, I’d do the same thing. A real passion. I can completely relate. Condolences for your wife.
You're spot on the cars are being held from the scrapman, giving someone the chance to fulfil their dream. It's not reasonable to expect 1 person to restore all the cars in the world, but if they have space and sense they can pay it forward. Well done sir I salute you.
One problem with that is exactly what he mentioned in this video... the people who care about older cars are dying off by the minute... less and less people care about 1930-40s cars or earlier, and it's getting that way with muscle cars as well. So guys like this hoarding everything till they're too old to do anything with it may be a benefit, but also can be a bad thing... now a lot of the people who would have restored these are his age and in failing health too. That and the prices go up every year. A lot of the cars I would buy to restore would be too expensive now compared to when this guy bought them to hoard. Now its the 80s and 90s cars that are becoming popular again... like the guy said that Bronco II would be his choice there... 20 yrs ago those were trash used cars nobody cared about.
@@BabyJesus66 That's just life those people and people who buy cars as assets speculating on their future value rather than buying the car for the right reasons. If anything the failing demand for these cars would bring them down in price and a more realistic option for someone to restore and make good to have fun with rather than all about making money. Big money ruins everything in life whether it's this or motorsport pushing out the little people grass roots stuff is harder to access and run as it all has to make profits etc.
I've run into a lot of people hording cars who will not sell at any price yet they lack the skills or talent to bring the cars back. I remember a guy who had a Plymouth Superbird when the cars are bringing OK money for a used car but before the prices went insane. He refused to sell at any price. Eventually the car deteriorated to the point where it could no longer be saved and his family broke it up for parts.
@@BabyJesus66 Yeah, I saw a video of a bunch of cars in the woods. The maker of the video bought a couple that were most interesting to him. When he went back to get them, a lot of other cars were being stacked on a flatbed for a trip to the crusher. Sad.
There's a difference between guys like this who buys too many cars, stores them up nicely and is willing to sell and the ones that just puts them in a wet field or in the woods somewhere to continue the rotting process and refuses to sell anything before they die/are forced by local authorities to get rid of them. Some of the latter ones would rather pay to have them scrapped than sell them for a realistic price.

I feel that guys like this usually want all the money for their cars, this guy seems to be very realistic on what he wants to sell everything for. It seems there’s a lot of good deals to be had here honestly
Only issue is this guy is driving the cost up on sentimental value, and a lot of these vehicles are extremely dated or not very popular. I could see him holing onto most of the vehicles till he parts, or he gets desperate and starts selling them for pennies on the dollar.
I've seen just body shells of these cars for the same price of these complete cars at swapmeets. Back in 2014 I saw a 1957 Belair rusted shell with no frame and stripped of everything with a asking price of 7k. They were crazy. Seeing all the outrageous prices turned me away from the old cars.
Another car hoarder who’s actually come to his senses and is letting go of his massive collection .. I say this out of admiration, respect and jealousy, I wish I could have put together a hoard of cars as impressive as this, all the fun is in the chase for acquiring the next car .
Thing with farmers is that they don't throw anything away, also they usually get stuff cheap, store it away. Most barn finds are so valuable, because a farmer got the car 30 years ago for nothing, and put it away planning to fix it up and then had to deal with life and never got around to it. This guy realizes his own mortality and is just cleaning house.

Tom Cotter is one class act. What a great disposition. Humble, yet insightful. It's great to have someone like him as a figure to look up to in this hobby, obsession, insanity, or whatever we choose to refer to it. The takeaway in this clip is that those who hoard these cars because either they intend to get to them "one day" or because they enjoy having them shouldn't be looked down upon. We're all just curators of these old relics. Some of us have one or two. Others have dozens. Some are able to get to them, others, for an infinite amount of reasons, can't or don't. Many of these cars have outlasted their previous owners. We will all be outlived by these cars (with the exception of those that meet an early demise). Then they'll just be passed on again and again until the car is gone. My only contention is when these cars are left to the elements by owners with no intention of resurrecting or selling. This never made sense to me. In any event, Hagerty, Tom, and crew, thanks for yet another very enjoyable and insightful production. Keep up the great work!
The first year for a Suburban was 1935 , Chevrolet actually had one in an advertisement one time fairly recently . All were two doors , until 1967-72 when they made the three door version , which was upgraded to the four door in 1973 . All had the wood plank rear floor like a pickup until the '73 redesign .

Great respect for preserving these cars. I see so many people leave these things rotting in a field or the back 20 and won't sell them or take care of them but act like they're doing something wonderful.
I would be wanting them GTOs Fantastic sleepers with the LS engines in them!
As a HAGERTY member with 5 classics! Great video I've always loved old cars! Some of the best conversations you'll ever have with someone is about their passion or hobby! Everything goes out the window RACE SOCIAL CLASS it's all about the passion!
He's pricing them to sell, not some dreamer with the "I know what I got" sky high pricing because he saw one sell on Mecum for a quarter of a million.
Another car hoarder who’s actually come to his senses and is letting go of his massive collection .. I say this out of admiration, respect and jealousy, I wish I could have put together a hoard of cars as impressive as this, all the fun is in the chase for acquiring the next car .
Its fun to chase both, but its far easier to hoard cars than to hoard women
@@seventeenfeetyes they usually don’t talk back 😂

Thing with farmers is that they don't throw anything away, also they usually get stuff cheap, store it away. Most barn finds are so valuable, because a farmer got the car 30 years ago for nothing, and put it away planning to fix it up and then had to deal with life and never got around to it. This guy realizes his own mortality and is just cleaning house.
I was born in 84. Can’t wait to get an 84 K20 or K30 to cruise around in.
Love to see Dennis Collins wander around those barns with his checkbook.
O, don’t start, the man’s Ram’s only go up to 4500’s in 19’5 tires., No F750’s on 22’5 tires (all aired up) 22:03 there for recovery. ,,, But I hear yea..
Are AC units available yet for the Ram 4500? Or is it promised,,,, F750 has nice cold air.
Such a relief 2C a man selling off his collection & doesn't thinks every one of 'em is a collector car worth a ba-jillion bucks ~ hope it worked out well 4 all
A lot of these cars have good body's and are worth restoring. Maybe some youtuber will go and buy up a bunch. Definitely some gems there like the Caprices, the old Suburbans and Tom's pick the Bronco II. The Monte Carlo is my pick. Cheers all. 🇨🇦
This man is my Hero and Mentor. It’s just like you said sir. He is the keeper of car history. We would not see this cars if it wasn’t for people like him. Please give my regards to him and my condolences for the loss of his wife. You and him are great men. J thought I was going good to have 8 cars. I’m a pee on compared to him. Keep the great content coming. I love cars.
Man I’d love to have that caprice or Monte Carlo hope they find loving homes one day
I'd like to have that Caprice as well, wouldn't take much to restore it! And it's a '66, and my birth year is '65, but I'd still take it!
That’s 87 suburban brings me right back to my childhood!
Thanks Tom and Hagerty
he has so much I want! And his prices are really fair. Best of luck to him.
Plus that Chevy dually with diesel motor that's a beauty
It sure was, and that is the one I would be interested in but $25k is a bit high unless it starts, runs, and shifts. If it were an extra cab, well, then, that would demand more money.
19:01 Way back in 1973, I wrecked/totaled my '68 Z-28 (I was 17) and, after receiving the insurance check, went to my friend's Dad's Chevrolet dealership. A lady (she had recently divorced) had just traded in this exact car, same color and drive-train. I purchased the car and drove it for the next 7 years. Absolutely loved the car.
I caught a glimpse of a '74 GTO that would look great in my garage.
Where? At what point in the video?
5:32
@@michaelheikkila6051 🤦🏻♂️ That what I get for fast-forwarding over the “commercial”. Nice call. One of my favorite year GTOs.
@@NovaResource- 5:32, easy to miss it because it was the Nova/Ventura body. Not a popular GTO, but would be nice to have one now.
@@randolfo1265 I agree. If you couldn’t tell by my Channel Name, I’m a bit of a Nova fan. So the 1974 GTO is a favorite of mine on two levels. It’s a GTO and it’s a X-Body.
Could not agree more with what you said about people having them. And they are just “saving them”, not letting them go to waste!
God bless him, sorry for his loss
Awesome episode. Every time someone uses the term “Hoarder” i correct them with the term “Conservator”.
I just sold 20 cars out of my Project Shed. Stuff that people didn’t want 15 years ago, and would have gone to scrap or just been left outside. Now, all hard to find stuff, especially ones that haven’t been raided for parts.
Great collection! I think his prices are super reasonable as well. I’d love to crack a beer with him and talk cars. He would be my perfect neighbor for sure 😊
Fair you know what you have to pay for just a original carb for a GTO like two grand here in California and he'd asking a lot less for the entire car.
Some of these cars are just rusty and dusty cabs, rotted tires, disassembled engines, and missing front-ends of the body and he’s asking 5 grand, those are worth more like 500 bucks
I would love one of them GTO/Monaros. They would be worth a packet here in oz.
It's hilarious that every time James would say what year a car was, five seconds later Tom would ask: What year?. I think it goes to show just how excited Tom gets.
Great episode. I watched it last night then went out today and bought your book "Secrets of the Barn Find Hunter" got the only one Chapters had left at the store near me. Now I can't wait to read it. This is my second book from you Tom the first one I have is " Best Barn Find Collector Car Tales" which I bought a few years back. I love the show and always watch it.
Another great video. Keep it up Hagerty 👌👌
I lived in Huntersville, NC for a year and wished I would run into Tom around town. You are one of a kind. Happy Hunting
I love your promotion of the independent book seller.
Great idea on the insert
Oh just found it in the glove box ☑️
I love this show its so awesome to see ppl saving these classics.
There's some great deals to be had!
All of those started life as someone’s dream car and through some twist of fate found their way to that place in time. Thank you sir for SAVING THEM from some worse fate! Please pass this on….and thanks for sharing!👍👍
Dennis Collins, needs to buy this place out.😄 Someone needs to give him a call.
I think Dennis said in a video that he bought 80 cars???? I wonder if this is it? Guess we will see.
Good grief, no. Dennis has enough barn finds that he turns around and flips to suckers paying even more $.
They don't have enough pedigree for Dennis.
Dennis wouldn't come anywhere near the prices this guy wants.
I'm almost positive I know who used to own the purple '64 GTO. That Chevy Caprice/Impala towards the end has to be a '67. 66's have the round tail lights. I'd really enjoy a walk through. Might even recognize some of the other vehicles. It's a small world. Some of his prices are a bit off, and some are low. Be a great place to get a package deal on 4-5 of them at a pop. Nice episode.
Holden Monaro 🇦🇺
$5k is a steal.
That monaro would be worth a hell of a lot more over here in aus
Then sold as a Vauxhall Monaro in the UK.
@@danielhillier7417 The ads for the Vauxhall loudly proclaimed that it would do 175MPH... In Australia we are not allowed to think for ourselves and that fact was kept secret so the Monaro didn't sell that well .For a long time they were quite cheap to buy. But Not now that folks understand them.
@@bengorst-wright5446
You couldn't drive it here unless it's converted to RHD.....that wouldn't be cheap.
I live in MN, missing my classics that are in winter storage, and watch shows like Barn Find Hunter and miss them even more.
Where or how do I get a hold of this guy ? I’m interested in at least a couple cars Tom.
Email is in the Description .
Hagerty has helped a couple people before with their car collections.. would be an awesome series if they made a half dozen or so episodes of helping this guy clean organize and sell some of these beauties.. I would watch that for sure!
What looks to be a 993 Turbo? Which are seriously expensive, Too new? 😮
Too new for Tom.
A super rare slant nose too.
Lots of neat cars-the monte is a 402 motor-I had a 70 Monte SS 454
You are right the Monte here a402 not a 396 when he said 396 he had me scratching my head allso
@@RicAughinbaugh-lj9nnI think they made a 454 LS6 in 1970. I'd give my left arm
Anyone thinking hes hoarding these cars is a fool. Most these cars would've been crushed if he didn't collect them. These old timers with extra money has saved the history of our automotive industry.
What a Nice Gentleman, His prices are very reasonable, I hope he finds good buyers , Best of Luck Sir!
Nice to see a guy who is a good candidate for “one of the most interesting guys around”, who, likely due to his obvious wealth and laid-back “I’ve seen a lot over the years” attitude, isn’t preoccupied w/ the “the no tire kicking low-ball offers, b/c I know what I got” approach that prevails in many of these circumstances…
ohh that monte carlo. my dad still has his 73 monte down at my grandmas waiting to maybe try and restore it some day. poor things been sitting outside at a lake in the middle of missouri for about 30 years now. its the big block with the swivel bucket seats. i remember loving those so much as a kid before he parked it down there. id love to have it restored and surprise him with it some day. he still loves that car and all the memories he made driving it when he was young.
I am Hagerty client and Driver’s Club member since 2003, and I always enjoy your videos. Point is I strongly agree with your point about how lucky we all are that some folks with resources have taken their hard earned money and found storage for these old and not so old classics. The trolls will always be here, it’s their way of expressing envy I suppose, but hey if they can complain than they should be able to buy all these cars and restore them, right!
First off I like to thank Hagerty for this special episode. That i6 Firebird got me in the introduction. Condolences to his wife and probably why his passion is passing. Only have about 14 and my boys side by sides bikes etc. Most represent part of my timeline. If you can afford to live it, go right ahead! Born and raised in NYC and live in rural Palm Beach County.
Great video 👍 Time to call Dennis Collins sure he'll have some of that 😅
I'm pretty sure that Dennis was on to this guy five minutes after watching the video. Dennis doesn't sleep on the job, he acts!
The Monty Carlo club is strong too. It’s a heavy hitter/cruiser. Thanks for sharing the cars of your life. 👍🤙
Thank you for what you do! Gives me hope I can find something for myself.
What a find. It's amazing stuff like this is still out there in this day and age. Love that gems are still out there. They'll never be built like they were again
Those days are long gone. My grandfather also had a property like this covered in old cool cars. You'd have to have millions to have this today.
I LOVE that Monte Carlo and that '28 Buick. That Monte Carlo would make one hell of a sleeper.
I've read some of the comments regarding this guys prices...... a few are fair and some I think are 2 to 3 times what they should be, in my opinion... If he doesn't get real he's gonna own these for another 20 years.
I bet Pole Barn Garage would love to get in touch with this guy, Pontiacs as far as the eye can see! Sweet Collection
I love walking around old cars like that, love walking through salvage yards
What a collection! I half expected Tom to get the cheque book out! Some ripper cars..🇦🇺🍺🍺
Your comments about the negativity are spot on. The folks first to criticize are all talk, doubtful any of them will ever restore a car like one of these.
God knows who we all are...We are his human children who were lucky enough to be created by him...To God, Black, White, Red, and Brown, are all beautiful colors.
God is so good.
I would be in heaven if I could just tinker with those cars they’re all beautiful cars good job, sir. Most people don’t even have them Barnes. You’ve got most of them covered very well. Done
Men like this are a gem making history from the past accessible for the next generation to cherish I hope to do some like this with my years
I would never ever ever ever ever buy an electric car. I’d rather buy a vintage old car so I can pass it down to my children.❤❤❤❤
All had the wood plank rear floor like a pickup until the '73 redesign .
love these no BS guys that just shoot out a price and intention for the cars..he's not an expert by any means (neither am I) but I appreciate his passion for collecting and saving these precious relics!!
Nobody owns these cars we are just the care takers so thanks to people like this guy for saving these classic cars for the next care takers 👍
In Australia they were called 'Monaro', the same as the coupe Monaros from '69 -'71. Great looking car.
Another great episode! Thanks Tom! Also thanks for showing the Bronco II some love. I had an 86 that I put 200k miles on and loved it. Fun to drive especially after I swapped a 4.0L into it.
Holley Mollie, I say he's has alot of nice old iron,,more than fair prices also..hope he can unload a few of them.Thls again Tom for sharing
Would be fun to help him for a few days and find a few nuggets of knowledge and rare parts
