Malayalees should consider additional expense of travelling back to Kerala with family at least once in every two to three years to see their parents and relatives. Ticket is very expensive from here so you can't travel more frequently like in the gulf.
I remember my first trip back was after 4 years. I missed many weddings in the family. Fortunately you can get better price now due to direct flight to Kerala via Dubai or Doha.

Gulf is not cheaper than Canada. Cost of living is expensive .
There are companies in UAE that pay for education also. Eg Schlumberger .( Although very rare )
There are many Indian millionaires in UAE than canada .and the climate in Canada is very harsh.
Dubai is extremely competitive and offers high quality of life if u have a very good salary or a successful business .
If someone like to forget India, can go to Canada and live a western life, else UAE is best for living blasting and savings. Personal experience.

Aswin, I was in charge of large number of workers. I viewed them as human and I felt empathy and felt for them be it a guy from Philippines, Bangladesh, Pakistan or Sri Lanka. Slowly I recognised that I'm used as a conduit to make them work for which they were not being complimented. Be it wages or treatment. So what did I do? Quit from a well paid job before I got fired for treating or wanting to treat workers as humans. That was long time ago before auditors were appointed to look into the conditions of workers. Still to cut cost the building industry evade strict auditing. In Canada there is fixed wage system and strangely garbage collectors are better paid than bank clerks!

The main difference between Canada and Gulf countries. Very simple. In Canada you are a human being with rights, privileges and responsibilities of a citizen. In Gulf countries you are a slave.
The best way to break Canadian winter, the way I do it is take a vacation of couple of weeks and go to warmer location (January-February). Many people can go to Kerala. It really breaks the monotony of the winter. Try it.

I dont know well enough about the Saudhi but im hardly saying qatar and qatar life is like a hell and the locals of qatars are very bad. If u compare in Dubai the quality of life is much better than Canada, what exactly i know. I ve much more experience in dubai and im still working in Dubai. If u get a good job at here the Dubai can call just only a single name is HEVEN. If u get a PR in dubai the health coverage is free but the same issue for the dental and eye have to pay from our side or go for the premium insurence.
Here the companies of dubai will take care abot the transportation petrol some companies give accomadation for the family and school allowance also.
Both countries have there own expectation and quality.

Toronto is a shitehole compared to 20 years ago when it was magnificent city. Now it is a noisy, filthy place, I think the reasons are obvious. Gulf has more vibrant and colorful life most certainly for Indian expatriates even though most aren't filthy rich.

If you are a skilled professional you need to get Canadian equivalency degrees like medicine , engineering etc to work in that field
Savings potential is minimal because of high taxes and low pay for non skilled jobs
Quality of life is how you make it , you can have excellent quality of life in Dubai or Qatar or KSA if you have money high paying jobs and a big circle of friends the same is in Canada a lot of people live in basements and have no cars and the struggles are real with the unforgiving winters

I agree with you that Canada is a great Country in many aspects. But as for me it is a mixed opinion.
I will write what my opinion after putting a brief history of me below. The reason is, in my stand point why do I say India is better to live than Canada for me. And also why I cannot go back to India, although I want to go back.
This post may help someone.
I respect your views and each one has their views in any matter based on their own circumstances.
I was working in Dubai Hospital (DOHMS) 12 years as a senior staff and my wife was working for Dubal Dubai Aluminum and the kids went to St Mary’s High School till A level. And financially we were paid well. I bought properties there in India. Before Dubai I was working in Zambia with Ministry of health.
I migrated to Canada for Kid’s university as I found it expensive to support their education in Canada or UK from the Gulf.
I could not continue with my profession in Canada as there was no need of my profession by the time I got the immigration and I moved to Canada in 1994.
I had to change to other profession and took three Canadian designations. I did well financially my income was almost double than UAE but savings was never double but same as in UAE.
I am retired now kids are married and well settled and I have grandchildren.
I live 6 months in South America and 6 Months in Canada. I still keep my house in Canada.
after my Mom passed away I sold everything in India and brought the money to Canada.
Now why I like India to live better than Canada and why I cannot go back. Again this is specific to me.
1. Most people after coming to Canada they are migrating and leaving their home and making Canada to be their home.
2. Most of the people after few years stop remitting to India and on the contrary bring money to Canada from India.
3. For an Indian in Gulf, your home is India and never Gulf.
4. Kids in Canada, most of the time, most kids will have no connection with India due to many reasons.
5. Going to India becomes occasional and at that time in the 90s Canada was I felt better and I know it is still better in many aspect.
6. But when I reached age 65 I start seeing great opportunity in India economically and socially than Canada. But for my Kids, India it’s out of the question, partly it’s my fault.
7. Health care is excellent in India and also in Canada.
8. I miss my culture around me and also the food and the simplicity of back home.
9. I hear now India is changing towards western culture and many young ones are not realizing it.
10. So I moved to Ecuador and I find this is a in between India and Canada.
11. But to start a life and make money Ecuador is not a place to move. It’s a good retirement place.
12. I have my son and family and kids moved here so that is a plus.
13. I don’t have any active connections with relatives in India.
14. It’s all green and exciting here in Canada till your children disconnect from India and you cannot disconnect from the kids and at the same time a person like looking towards India.
15. I have enough savings so financially I am very fine, But I miss home and life in India.
16. Bottom line if I have to live my life again I would settle in India would not even go to UAE if possible. My friends of my same profession did well in India,
