I have that book! Very beautiful Rex Ray inspired papers. Yes, I know I’ve not been around but I’ve been unwell and if the video doesn’t come up when I watch I don’t seem to have the energy to look for it but I’m feeling better and searched for your video today 😁❤ I have been printing on both sides for a while now as I have so many prints. I also tell myself the lie that I will make a sketchbook journal out of them.

I don’t normally comment on videos but I want to thank you for sharing the link to the Rex Ray video. I have one of the books about his work and find it very inspiring. It was wonderful to see him working in the studio and the height of his powers and simultaneously sad to know he’d be gone so soon after.
I am so glad that you enjoyed the documentary. I have watched it many times and every time I get something new out of it. When I watch it now that he's passed, I feel both elated by the scope of his work, and heartbroken that he's no longer here. What is the adhesive he soaks his paper in? And how did he figure out how to do that - soak the papers? How did he cut like that, directly on the canvas? Right?!! So cool. I’m so glad that you’re back! I hope you had a great time 😊 I was thrilled to see you were working on the Rex Ray inspired painted papers this week. I have been looking forward to it since you mentioned it a while back! I can’t wait for next week to see what you come up with! Rex Ray has been my favorite artist for a long time. I love his style which has a mid century vibe. I have TRIED to emulate his style using different techniques from spray paint on canvas using handmade stencils and masks to collaged artist trading cards using hand painted papers 😄
@@PaintedPaperStudio I think the most successful has been the recent ATCs I collaged. Since watching your video, I have determined that I was more focused on the colors. And from rewatching the PBS documentary I was missing the interesting patterns of his painted papers and yours. Something I was missing in larger works (8x10s) I made which came out blah. By making smaller works, the focus was on color and value. So now, I’ll be gelli printing some more papers this week to get ready for your video next week🤗

These are lovely papers! Happy you're back! And this guy is definitely inspiring! Will look him up! For strié, I usually use a comb! Either a regular one or one of these that that thighter tooth at one end and looser ones at the other end (if that makes sense!😂)

Thank you for this. Never before had a herd of wrecks right. Well I love you to do a workshop? Yes, please! Thank you for introducing me to him I am smitten. I am inspired. And just say that I love and adore this video is an understatement. It made my heart sing. Aside from that, I am a girl from the 80s. He specifically mentioned in 1984 which was the year I graduated high school. And you were spot on with the purple, teal, and aqua net. I was fortunate enough to not need the hairspray as I have naturally curly hair that I could make a bigger than anybody else could even with hairspray. Regarding the puffed rice rolls all I could think of was the old commercials with snap crackle and pop. But I have an idea about it. What about gluing popcorn to a toilet paper roll? It could be popped or plain., Something to consider Again, thank you so much for the major inspiration that you just gave me! And thank you for introducing Rex Ray into my life. Pardon me while I go watch his documentary.

Welcome back! That documentary on Rex Ray was so much fun - I do wonder how he managed to use a cutting tool on his multi-layered collages while they were still wet (he was using oil-based paints on some of those very large pieces?) And he could cut through one layer without damaging the one underneath. Waiting now to see what you do with all the painted papers you made in today's video! Oh, and regarding sound in the studio - I like it quiet. 😘

Hi Queen - yes, I am recharged, recalibrated and ready to go. I'm so happy you enjoyed the video. The "stamp" I used was actually an insert from a professional makeup artist kit. It's used to make different sized compartments in the case. Naturally, I saw other opportunities for it. 😂🥰

Hi Kim - I hope you love the music 💃🏻, and I am thrilled that you have been enjoying Rex Ray. I painting paper days, use both Titanium and Zinc white interchangeably - which ever one I grab first is what I use. When I'm painting intentionally and the opacity matter, I choose the white most appropriate for the intended result. Does that help? 🥰

Arabella, I've often wondered this, too. The documentary was released in 2010, I assume that it was filmed in 2009, and his dog was not a puppy at that time. Fourteen years later I'm sure he is now with Rex, but wonder who he went to on Rex's passing. 🥰

Great question, Sam - I use different types. However, the one that I used in this video, and my preferred medical exam paper is the crepe-style. It goes completely transparent when glued down with gloss medium 😍. Here is a direct link to the exact paper I use. Rex Ray has been my favorite artist for a long time. I love his style which has a mid century vibe. I have TRIED to emulate his style using different techniques from spray paint on canvas using handmade stencils and masks to collaged artist trading cards using hand painted papers 😄

@@PaintedPaperStudio I think the most successful has been the recent ATCs I collaged. Since watching your video, I have determined that I was more focused on the colors. And from rewatching the PBS documentary I was missing the interesting patterns of his painted papers and yours. Something I was missing in larger works (8x10s) I made which came out blah. By making smaller works, the focus was on color and value.
So now, I’ll be gelli printing some more papers this week to get ready for your video next week🤗

These are lovely papers! Happy you're back! And this guy is definitely inspiring! Will look him up! For strié, I usually use a comb! Either a regular one or one of these that that thighter tooth at one end and looser ones at the other end (if that makes sense!😂)

Aside from that, I am a girl from the 80s. He specifically mentioned in 1984 which was the year I graduated high school. And you were spot on with the purple, teal, and aqua net. I was fortunate enough to not need the hairspray as I have naturally curly hair that I could make a bigger than anybody else could even with hairspray.
Regarding the puffed rice rolls all I could think of was the old commercials with snap crackle and pop. But I have an idea about it. What about gluing popcorn to a toilet paper roll? It could be popped or plain., Something to consider

Welcome back! That documentary on Rex Ray was so much fun - I do wonder how he managed to use a cutting tool on his multi-layered collages while they were still wet (he was using oil-based paints on some of those very large pieces?) And he could cut through one layer without damaging the one underneath.

Hi Queen - yes, I am recharged, recalibrated and ready to go. I'm so happy you enjoyed the video. The "stamp" I used was actually an insert from a professional makeup artist kit. It's used to make different sized compartments in the case. Naturally, I saw other opportunities for it. 😂🥰

I painting paper days, use both Titanium and Zinc white interchangeably - which ever one I grab first is what I use. When I'm painting intentionally and the opacity matter, I choose the white most appropriate for the intended result. Does that help? 🥰

Arabella, I've often wondered this, too. The documentary was released in 2010, I assume that it was filmed in 2009, and his dog was not a puppy at that time. Fourteen years later I'm sure he is now with Rex, but wonder who he went to on Rex's passing. 🥰

Hi Jackie, do you use the smooth medical exam paper? I see there are 3 choices.
Great question, Sam - I use different types. However, the one that I used in this video, and my preferred medical exam paper is the crepe-style. It goes completely transparent when glued down with gloss medium 😍. Here is a direct link to the exact paper I use.
