    Every creative person has different needs. Here are the different ways to enjoy these videos.
    - Some enjoy hearing me explain my process. If that’s you, make sure your volume is on.
    - Others prefer to read my process through the closed-caption subtitles. If that’s you, turn on the CC at the bottom right of the video.
    - Some don’t want to hear my voice (that’s ok 😀). If that’s you, turn the volume off and watch.

    I taped a 18" x 24" sheet of rigid plastic from a poster frame (used to protect the art) and I taped down that plastic sheet to my counter, placed the gel plates, and then outlined the plates with masking tape to use for registration. The gelli plates stay put and I use the plastic sheet over and over.

      Yolanda! This is a great suggestion, and very clever way to use items you already have. I use plexiglass for all my mid-sized plates, but had not thought of a good way to mount severaal of the smaller ones at once. I'll give it a try 🥰

    What fun this was. BTW, A while back when you tested the med exam paper I ordered some and OMGosh its one of my faves now. Even found it was acid free ( since it’s often against bare skin 😮 I guess). So thanks for that discovery too.

      Thank you, Mayet. I'm so happy you are enjoying your medical exam paper. How did you discover that it's acid-free - that info could be a game changer for people on the fence with using it. 🥰

      @mayetmahulilileilani2501 Місяць тому

      @@PaintedPaperStudio I was first told by someone else that it was, so to verify that I sourced out an 800# for the company and spoke to a customer representative, specifically asking if their crepe 21" wide exam table paper was acid free. I was told that it is medical grade, hypo-allergenic, acid free, has no coating or harmful chemicals thus meeting green product standards for composting and biodegrading as well as renewal product standards (meaning it's made from materials such as fast growing hemp, bamboo etc that are themselves easily renewed within no more than a 10 year cycle. In writing on their website I did not find the words acid-free but did find medical grade as well as the information about meeting the stringent green product and renewal product standards. I told the rep my use and she was surprised to learn artists are using. I suggest they include acid-free in their on-line text, saying it was a key word for artist re papers. PS, as you mentioned, the crepe rolls not the smooth rolls are what one buy. The smooth has a coating and is therefore less absorbent.
      On another note, I've found a fabulous source for tea bag paper. An artist I found on instagram, @nimanoma, Naomi Southon. She sells three kinds in very large sheets, thin (her sheerest), medium, and a little thicker. They are also strong and reasonably priced. And tho she's in the UK, she ships anywhere with ease at reasonable rates. I've been VERY please with both product and service. the link to purchase can be found in her Insta linktree. Oh, and even if one doesn't order her paper, her Insta page is a wealth of gelli printing and collage paper making ideas and tips - some of the best out there, I think. If you haven't already discovered her, she's a great find. Such a long reply! I hope it's helpful and that I didn't waste your time. Love your channel, thank you so much for your dedication. Warmest regards, Mayet

      one further thing! I went to my amazon history to find and copy the link to what I bought. That link was soooooOOOooo long I didn't add it here after all... I don't know how to convert that into a short link, sorry. If you'd like me to send it to you some other way, I'll be happy to. BUT, in the link it does say the words acid-free! So there we have it in writing, WOOT WOOT!

    A tip, DONT put texture material under the gel plate, is going to dent your plates (or mark). Put a piece of acrylic, a little bit bigger than the plate,, it will stay without move. Also you can lift it and pick the other side or even align it, putting* the sheet on the table and the gel plate over (as a stamp)). I’ll be more than glad to give you more tips if you need.

      Hi ArtCurious, thank you for watching. I only use the mesh fabric to hold the gel plates in place for short periods of time, while I am working. When I'm done, I clean then and put them back in their original packaging. So far I have never had a problem with dents or marks. Using the gel plate as a stamp is an interesting idea. Quick question, does the grip mesh for the gel plates leave an imprint on the base of the plate? Do you use just one side of your gel plate?
    I’ve also been gifted some craft crepe paper and wondered if you have used this at all in your art?

    Another fun day with gel plates. I love numbers, too, and am going out to our barn for an old license plate! BTW, I read on the gel arts directions on my 6” plate and it says not to lay the plate on a textured surface because it will pick up the texture and keep it permanently. And now I need to order graphite powder… or scrape the lead off a pencil.

    • @PaintedPaperStudio

      Jo - my heart fluttered when I read "old license plate." That is going to be so fun to print with, and wait until you start using graphite powder 😍. Yes, best practice is to not lay a gel plate on a textured surface, but I have never had that problem using the soft mesh liner. It could be because I don't leave it on the mesh when I'm done. Thank you very much for watching 🥰

    Love this❤ tell me. Are smaller gel plates better to use? I’m thinking of getting a larger one, 12 x 14 in order to cover more space. Less work. But are my thoughts going to cause more problems? Please advise us! Thank you❤

    • @PaintedPaperStudio
      @PaintedPaperStudio  Місяць тому

      Hi Patty - this is such a great question - I might have to create a video about it 😍 If you have never used a gel plate I would recommend starting with a mid-sized gel plate. Large gel plates and small gel plates have their challenges. Learning how to use a gel (or get the best from it) has its challenges, too. My very first gel plate was 8x10. I used it exclusively for about 6 months and fell more in love with (and learned so much about the process) that I decided it was time for me to start creating larger - so I got the 16x20 plate. 😂😂😂 Boy, was THAT a learning curve. So was the 6x6 plate - the first time I used the baby plate, it flew across the room when I pulled my first print. All of this is to say that each size has it's challenges and rewards. The best plate size for you will depend on how much space you have (for the plate and your prints), and how much patience you'll have with yourself. I hope this helps, and be sure to let me know what size you decide on. 🥰

      @@PaintedPaperStudio Thank you so much for your response. I appreciate all that you related to me. Given that I don't have much space perhaps I should start small. Like 5 x7. Thank you for mentioning the size issue. It made up my mind for me! Thanks again!

    I am trying to find the medical exam paper you are recommending, I am in England and when I copy and past your link into Uk Amazon I seem to get what appears to be two ply soft paper which I don’t think would stand up to pulling ink off a gel plate. Is there another name for this paper you are using?

      Hi Nicola - yes, the paper in the UK is often listed as "couch hygiene paper." If you can find that says "crepe" in the listing, that is the type that I am most impressed with. I hope this helps. 🥰

      @@PaintedPaperStudio thank you, however the only listing for this in UK appears to be on Amazon and is only available as a 12 pack for £162 so as an experiment I’m not likely to getting that any time soon. I did find a single roll available in Europe for only €6 but they wouldn’t ship to the UK

      @@PaintedPaperStudio thanks! I like to add lg symbols too…however, I would like them random, not in order. Another challenge.

      Hi Julie - I'm not sure where you are. I don't have any hobby lobby's near me. At minute 19:42 the video is over. Was there an advertisement for Hobby Lobby at the end? 🥰
