It's not so bad. Mine looked better but I had to change all the same stuff. I'd recommend a galvanized chassis, new bulkhead, new suspension( parabolics are nice), gas tank, brake lines, steering relay, swivel balls and tie rod ends to get you started. Leave the body as is, the Land Rover fraternity don't really seem to care about shiny paint, engine swaps are common plus they're just great vehicles to own and drive. Cheers!
They do come up nice on a new galvanised chassis. As it is stripped it would be nice to repaint it so it has a completely new life again. It will thank you for it.
My dad had like 4 Landrovers jeeps the body hold up but the chasis always rust cause of the box frame type of construction always gets water and mud trapped we had the diesel with the little four cylinder perkins needed a overdrive to go over 80 km. But super economical nice farm vehicle but a turtle in the highway. greetings from Panamá.
Speaking as someone who has just a little experience with old Landys.....I'd suggest that with 2 bottles of T-Cut you could have sorted that.......First you drink the T-Cut.... .....failing that, I'd grab a shiny new chassis, throw a few grand and a TDi of some description at it and enjoy a great run around for bugger all money
Rather than drink it can it just dollop it on my chips???? Oh yes. New chassis and springs. The axles need new diff covers and rebuilding. As for engine amd gearbox you cant go wrong with a TDI (my favorite lamdy engines) but we havent completely decided yet.
In a way it is a result having the chassis that bad, it stops you from putting plates on it. Might be fun to keep the patina look but with a smallblock Chevy or an OM606. If later on you want to make it pretty it is not that hard.
I've picked up a 109 project in Leicester I'm hoping to put a peugeot turbo diesel in mine with a Steve Parker conversion kit I got the engine and kit for £300 ...I just need to get a chassis to start it with
My first Citroen DS comes to mind when I see that chassis .... boke in half when I went over a railcrossing. Your Land< might be a wee bit worse, but not much. Looks like a phonecall at Richards' tbh. 😅
Looking at the stickers I’m guessing it’s been a surfers truck and probably in and out the sea! What part of the country was it from? It’s without doubt the rusty landy I’ve ever seen…
The guy i bought it off origionally got it from down south I think. I cant for the life of me remember what it said on the logbook but yes I think it must have been parked next to the Titanic! 🤣
the chassis from my land rover 2a was the same, and the worst part was that the previous owner was putting concrete in after patching the holes and I didn't know until I took it apart
Really? Ive heard some good reports. Ive seen a few other new chassis companies at some show i like the look of with good materials and nice welds. Were going to have another look closer to the time. What happened with your chassis?
@@lifes.projects mine is a 300tdi defender. Engine mounts welded to high and not in the right place. Rear x member should have been a td5 one as I had the option for a rear tank fitted between rails etc, and mine is a 90. They fitted a 300tdi rear x member so had to weld td5 tub brackets on.. and so on..
@@lifes.projects I welded the new engine mounts in the right place and the x member I welded the td5 bracket on and had to cut the old 300tdi rear tub mounts off. So not a clean looking rear end .
That is, without doubt, the rustiest chassis I have ever seen. Good luck with the restoration whichever way you go
I second that!
What chassis? I see no chassis!😮
🤣🤣
@@engineer6250😂
Galvanized chassis plus refurbished what you've got,
New engine, and your done!
Well done for taking that on I’d get new chassis, bulkhead and an original petrol 2.25 litre engine and keep the rough and ready look

Don't worry. Everything chassis and drive wise will be getting done on this one 😂

I agree. I prefer a painted chassis over the galv tho
@@lifes.projects Really? I have painted my galvanised chassis rear cross member and wonder about painting it all. It will outlast me for sure.
I love the look of a galvo chassis. Remember some of the original 1948/9 chassis series one were galvanised, and they weren't painted afterwards.
@@samrodian919 Unfortunately it makes them a target and more attractive for thieves too, as they are able to get a higher price.
@@lifes.projects Galvanized visible: +10.000,- € more or less in LHD-Europe.
The thumbnail picture of this poor thing made me save the video for later. Will follow.
Nice Klarius exhaust on it Tom 😂 Chris@SDL
Nice project

My vote. New chassis but get that engine started with another started before deciding to bin it. Make it new and shiny again
Thank you. I think I am leaning towards shiny and new myself.
Thinking of doing the same kind of restoration on a series 3, keep us updated please.
Will do. Got quite a bit to do before this one.
Over tighten those old ss bolts. They snap easy, much better than grinder for sure!
Beyond plate stitching, poor old beast, love to find one that way ,never will ,thank god for a good angle grinder
Beyond anything I think 😂. Patches over patches, the end was inevitable . Yes thank god for a good grinder 😂
Make it like new ❤
Nice if you get it all done.
One day...... 😂
This has to be one of those rare occasions where instead of removing the motor from the car you removed the car from the motor.
I didnt thibk about it like that 🤣
Let the challenge begin.
Agree with Grump, new chassis with a 300tdi, sorted. Now pass the T cut. 😉😀
Sounds like I am missing out on the consumption of T-cut! 😂😂

Crikey that's BAD! Join the series 2 club for lots of advice and discounts on parts including chassis.
I am sure i am already a member. If not I will join thank you.
some mud flaps and a spoiler and the phone will be ringing off the hook 🤣
And a good buff 🤪
Interesting channel... did I buy some metal mesh panels for my chicken coop off you a couple years back ?
Do what you want mate it will be brilliant
Thank you
well done mate atb
Thanks mate 👍
If the engine can be turned over by hand, it probably is just a starter problem.

Gleaming new is the way to go

That phonecall is a deffinate 🤣
Patina. Td5 conversion?
Thats one of the options yes 😜

Replace chassis, overhaul running gear and leave body as it is.

No way!!!! Thats shocking 🤣
I think restore it, make it new and shiny.
Then maybe just maybe a tdi…
But I would say original engine
Yeah thats what were thinking.
Start from chassis and go forward
Patina td5 engine that is the way mate
That's a good shout! 👍
What a shame it buckled. Would look great after a kid wash and dropping on a new chassis.
I know! Have to see if the wings can be saved but i doubt it
¿que paso ,se cayo de un rascacielo?
Привіт з України! Героям Слава!
Bit of kurust?
Dont bin that chassis, Auto Alex will probably buy it off you. He loves buying rust.
Al bag it up and post it to him 🤣
full restore with a V8
Like the sound of that 👍
Competent tow vehicle
transform it please
Jeez I'm only 50 seconds in and that is truly the very worst chassis I have ever seen in pictures or in person !
Don't buy a Richards chassis. Mine didn't work well for me.
