My heart breaks for Jazlyn. 20 years ago, I was in a community theatre production in which the antagonist had a real knife. One night he almost stabbed my hand that was unfortunately resting on a table he was attacking. I thought my late husband, a professional theatre musician, was going to jump out of the audience and rip it away from him. He did rip the director and stage manager new ones. I’ve been terrified of knives ever since.
I hope your doing well, it must have been quite traumatic when your hand almost got stabbed with an actual knife. I’m sorry for the loss of your husband as well.
@@liyu1574 You could be right but it would seem still scary if the actors act like it is. Their job is to act after all 😅 (not trying to argue, just wanted to point that out since it's kinda weird they'd choose to use a real knife)
The first few months after my family discovered dhar man, I saw something very disturbing on an insta live. You could clearly tell he didn't realize he could be heard. His beautiful wife was approaching him and in a very mean voice he told her to go and change her skimpy clothes. My heart dropped from the shock. No one can convince me he is a good man. There needs to be an investigation into the employees complaints.
The fact that there are some actors still siding with Dhar Mann when he doesn't pay all his actors fairly leads me to believe that they're being manipulated.
Of course! every time something like this happens there's always a bunch of people supporting the abusing party even though they themselves can easily be in the victim's place.
The two-eye-color lady specifically gives me weird vibes - like either she’s being targeted by his manipulation, or she’s getting paid a lot more than the others and lacks empathy or objectivity about that, or that she and Dhar are more connected than he is with other actors.
I think the biggest issue is that he expects a high level of commitment from his workers without reciprocating it. It's the business equivalent of a dude refusing to call someone his "girlfriend" but also wanting her to not see anyone else
This is literally what every boss in a big corporation does. If your boss don't have to work to pay rent, he's like this. Every single one of them are like this.
@@davidedeus12 i work for a family business, and sadly, they don’t have to be a big corporation to take advantage of you. as long as money is involved, they’ll try!
This sounds like my workplace. They keep referring to is as the Fi**e family ( which it used to be 25-30 years ago when I started there and the original founder was still in charge-ophthalmology practice) but the new partners who are now on charge treat staff like shit and refuse to believe their policies are the problem.
“Guy named Joe” is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard and I can’t believe Dhar Mann Studios actually put a guy with a clipboard as proof they don’t ignore their actors’ complaints
My immediate thought was: "Oh, they hired a guy to be a *living* suggestion box!" because there's nothing in their description that makes it seem like he's serving a different role, or that the feedback he receives has any more chance of being passed on to or taken seriously by anyone with the power to address it
Jarvis is such a king for this. Dhar Mann reactions/bingo are some of the most popular series on his channel. A lot of UA-camrs/streamers in his position would be worried about ending such a popular series, but he not only stopped doing them, but openly spoke out against one of the most popular UA-camrs on the platform. Common Jarvis W 👑
I’m Very Happy that the only way to ethically consume the rancid Dhar Tar is on old Bingo streams from Jarvis 🥰 I can’t handle dhar’s ego without the commentary of at least one friend anyway, but it’s nice that one of the biggest sources of “wtf Dhar” is his gross videos archived by a guy who’s been so supportive and advocative for the actors Dhar fucked over
all companies are scared of workers striking, they do defensive things like this (and much worse) in order to get control back. just look at france rn. government and the unions working together to try to get a hold on the peoples anger. they strike for a couple weeks that whole country gonna have to shut down
Honestly I’m fine with Dhar being done. RIP to bingo streams but part of running a business is providing work and benefits to the people who help make your business… a business. It’s absolute bullshit that practically the faces of Dhar Mann can’t afford rent or have any job security. It’s like the media production version of a sweat shop.
The thing that makes me the saddest about this whole situation is that the Dhar Mahn channel is the opposite of a jumping-off point for actors... Not only did he deprive them, and waste their time, but it's also going to be almost impossible for them to be taken seriously without making a major move now... A similar thing happened to me when I was younger I took an internship at SoFlo and it deflated what momentum I had found, exhausted my resources, and wasted my time. Took me a few years to recover from the chance I took to be a part of a channel where creativity goes to die.
That was what I was thinking about for the actors that stuck with him. I hate to say it, but these actors do his videos because they aren't getting gigs else where. It's him or nothing. Genuinely makes me sad that they don't have other acting options to turn to, so they stay.
@@divitiae I agree but the only thing for them to do moving forward is to try out for more coveted positions. They might not get the gigs at first but if they stick through it they might get the edge they need for their careers. They did me a favor when they skrewed me out of some money. My friend said I was so mad that Antonio thought I was going to attack him in the bank... It was so ugly, I ended up homeless for a second there, but I had saddled such a bad horse and I had no safety net back home. I blamed myself...

For anyone wondering, the second form of feedback on the stories was a Google form sent out to actors after their shoot. The stories said that they always get positive feedback from them but didn't really show what kind of questions are in them so idk what feedback they're getting
Love to see Jarvis being a strong advocate for workers being treated with respect and compensated fairly for their time. This kind of stuff makes me happy I'm a GOLD member
the fact that he stopped doing dhar mann bingo in solidarity for the actors/actresses, mad respect. a lot of creators wouldn't give up an ongoing series like that.
Great part about Dhar Mann bingo is it's a format that can be applied to a ton of stuff. Literally any repetitive/formulaic content can be used for it and tbh I think you should do more with it. It's such a fun idea and no one else is doing anything like it. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the support for the actors came from people who watched the streams. I definitely wouldn't have known about them otherwise
That “we are family” video really did boil my blood. Who knows how many of those people really are unable to quit, were pressured out of supporting the protest due to the very real possibility of losing out on future work, or manipulated by him to stay? It really was a last little kick in the teeth meant to make the protesters feel like they “betrayed him.” Side note: I honestly was feeling the hair, it’s giving Lionel Richie in his prime.
I haven't seen the whole thing. But from what Jarvis said, I agree that it is a complete travesty. Why does Dhar need comforting from his actors? He already has millions of dollars from his videos' excessive revenue. And even if he did need comforting, he has a family, a wife and two children. He doesn't have to rely on those who have arguably stayed loyal to him. He doesn't deserve any respect, and the only reason I watch his videos are to see how cringeworthy and laughable they are.
I feel so bad for Jazlyn Nicolette! She should have never gone through that horrifying experience when they were filming the Dhar Mann Halloween video. My heart goes out to her.
I’ve always appreciated how you’ve made sure to say you were never making fun of the actors and they’re just doing their job and you were making fun of the scripts etc when watching & doing dharmann bingo
Thanks so much for translating the corporate speak. Those "myths" were so disingenuous. Especially the part where they said they pay actors on a project by project basis because they want more faces. They always just cycled through the same 15 people.
idk why I'm fucking crying at Joe. so much respect for Jarvis blurring his face because what the hell lmaooo workers : " hey can we have some rights?" " nah but you can have Joe!!!" I'm crying real tears right now
My place had a raffle for the employees at a meeting to discuss issues at work. The prizes were all books about overcoming negativity, the power of positive thinking etc. not like an Amazon gift card or anything. So tone deaf.
The most fucked up thing about the video Dharr posted with the employees is that after all of the refusing to meet with actors or talk to the people he wronged he then blasts on social media that he’s willing to meet with certain people if they’re “supportive.” I also see that as an abuse of power.
It's so disgusting that it was "absolutely impossible" for Dhar to meet with the protesting actors, but he DOES have time to meet his supporter actors to film a cutesy skit about family.
I had a girlfriend whose younger sister (not a child for context, she’s 21) unironically loves Dhar Mann and it always irked me given all the allegations, not to mention the felonies he had expunged from his record. Always thought he was super shady, tbh none of this surprises me.
I have a friend who's almost 32 who watches his stuff and loves it unironically. I also sometimes just remember that time UA-cam's handsomest doctor, Dr. Mike, did a video reacting to medical Dhar Mann videos and someone who I hop was a literal child got so offended because Dhar Mann helps people. Like okay Dr. Mike literally saved someone's life when he was having an allergic reaction on a plane but sure, Dhar Mann is the hero.
I always got a weird feeling based off the videos themselves - super preachy on morals, yet the morals often miss the mark: e.g. instead of "Just be nice to people because everyone deserves that," it'll be something like "Be nice to that poor person because they might be rich and successful one day."
i feel like employers for unconventional jobs (not 9-5s) think they can dance around fair labor for their employees. i cant imagine how frustrating it must be to try and make it as an artist while getting inconsistent treatment like this edit: i typed this before the thing with the knife, holy shit
Honestly I feel so sorry for Jazlynn because it reminds me of a similar situation I had in school once. Some asshole came halfway across the classroom when the teacher was absent, scissors in hand, threatening to cut my hair and turned me into a laughing stock. Then suddenly I was the problem for standing up for myself and rejecting a false apology - this kid was an absolute ass, I knew he'd never mean it. Honestly, when it comes to causing traumatic experiences and issuing fake apologies, that asshole from school and Dhar have a lot in common.
I think you had it worse then she did. All he did was point it at her. And she ran away crying in fear. At least you had the brains to stand up for yourself
paying hourly but only for that very specific few hours they’re actively acting, instead of all the hours they’re on set/told they’re needed, is straight up wage theft. it’s not an uncommon grift when it comes to guys like dhar who are only concerned about making as much money as possible (which means finding ways to pay others as little as possible). seen it so many times but laws almost always favor the business owners over their workers in america, and owners more often win in court cases when challenged.
@@elizabethb4168 it's a grey area as they're not union actors but it can violate labor laws but they depends more on where the LLC is filed in. He might have it in a place that has loose labor laws for this reason
im studying to be an employment & union lawyer because there is not much in this world that enrages me more than the exploitation of the working class and god it just means SO much to have people like jarvis talking about this shit right now. there is so much power in worker solidarity, and you're doing such a valuable service by having these conversations online
Someone should take all of them and put them in the same video on top of each other. Someone did that with penguinz0 saying "see ya" at the end of his videos and it was incredibly consistent
So here's something that Joe might also be told to take when getting feedback: he may be told to take names and might be told to only write down the positive stuff. I've had drama teachers who tried this with their plays and if you gave negative feedback such as the director is misreading the scene, your concerns were not heard and your roles lessened.
This is precisely why things like SAG exist. You need a union/guild to avoid getting just totally abused like this. Maybe we'll see an internet content creator actor's guild form out of these kinda disasters.
@@schwammi which there should be a law stating any company that wants actors has to be approved by a union and anyone wanting to act should join a union
I feel like these videos will be part of the historical record of this company's ultimate fall. He may skate through this time, but something will happen or continue happening, it will come out, and show things are just getting worse. Other than hoping advertisers or the algorithm will someday leave his insipid, exploitative content behind, it's the best we've got. Good job Jarvis, never more proud to be a Gold member.
That "we are family" video is so disgusting, like it makes me physically ill with rage. Jarvis is right, Dhar Mann is the last person in this scenario who needs to be comforted. He preaches morality and then has the ego to feel like HE'S been victimized in this situation. Good for those actors who were brave enough to leave and create their own content, I will for sure be supporting their new endeavors.
About the knife thing: as someone currently in film school and taking production classes, having a real knife instead of a prop knife is a MAJOR no no. Literally safety is supposed to be top priority and we have to jump through a thousand hoops to use fake weapons, as it should be. Not only is it incredibly dangerous and probably several levels of illegal to have an actor RUN with a real weapon, let alone chase another actor. Accidents happen and if either of them tripped it could lead to life changing injuries (death is probably unlikely but if an actor has a facial injury/scar it can affect their livelihood and financial means) and if she had any trauma memories related to someone pulling a knife on her etc, it could’ve given her such a severe panic attack it could have required hospitalization and sedation. I am so so so so SO proud of that girl for leaving. When someone tries to pressure you into something that makes you uncomfortable, please remember you can leave. Exit the situation and always put your safety and comfort first. That flight response is so important yet so overlooked, please listen to your instincts and never let anyone coerce you into staying and complying. Please, as someone who learned that lesson the hard way, look out for yourself
The irony that the lesson of 90% Dhar Mann's videos is basically "be nice to ppl cause it will benefit you in the long run" lmao. Also I feel like that's the golden rule for ppl who are dumb and selfish.
It's so common for people to build their image on kindness to actually be some of the worst assholes ever, because they have bought their own bullshit. They are so convinced of their own righteousness that it can't be that they made a mistake, everyone else has to be wrong. It makes them more insufferable than garden variety assholes because at least they have some self awareness
Jesus Christ died for your sins on the cross. Repent and believe in him or you will be separated from God The Father for all eternity and face hell forever, never ending..
Not to mention Jazlyn Nicolette was forced to take her video down because Dhar Mann served her with a cease and desist letter, and a lot of other actors got unfair copyright strikes by the big Mann as well.
A man that directs videos intended to spread kindness, turning out to not be tearing his actors properly, said actors calling him out and turning around and creating their own production company is an entire Dhar Mann set up, twist, and resolution.
The fact that he’s still not paying his actors enough despite all the pushback is astounding to me. No I’m not surprised some rich guy is mistreating his employees, but you’d think he’d finally get the hint after awhile. As trash as his videos are, the actors have always been the saving grace since they always seemed to be giving it their all. They basically made his channel and don’t deserve this.
this is very reminiscent of when a bunch of chefs left the test kitchen and babish's channel became the babish culinary universe and i am living for it
Kind of a stretch The working conditions and treatment here are universally different. The biggest thing with BA was Adam was a prick (they fired him) and there was ‘unequal pay’ but between people within different ranks of the company so that’s highly debatable. Also babish is a major creep. Marginally better than Adam
Jarvis's hair is just first day hair for anyone wondering. It's sometimes a thing with textured hair; You'll notice a lot of black people don't like their own freshly washed look. I think because it looks too perfect. A lot of us like 2-4 day hair when it looks more natural but still has definition. I don't think he thinks it looks bad (saw that in the comments) just probably not he's favorite day on himself lol. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk 😂
I know the pain 🥲freshly washed winds up looking heavy and damp no matter what I do to it, she's got no spring, no life, then two days later I look like I stepped out of the 80s might just be that it takes a lot longer for curly/textured hair to fully dry, or maybe it needs to reabsorb the natural oils to reshape? 🤔
That's cool. I'm white, I have white person hair, but I don't like how it looks freshly washed either. I don't know, it's like it's not smooth enough when it's freshly washed. It's cool that people with other textured hair have the same issue (I mean the dissatisfaction issue)
This is why union or guild or association solidarity is so important. Millionaires/billionaires/trillionaires do not care about workers, they only care about money.
I just want to thank you for having a free premium channel. I’d never be able to pay for a premium channel. Thanks for the great content, and for the updates on the situation.

A while ago, I left a comment on a Dhar Mann commentary video about how I wished the actors were known for more than being in his videos, so it's nice that they're starting their own thing now
thank u for sticking up for actors, jarvis :,) as an actor myself, i got used to poor working conditions ALARMINGLY quickly. i remembered seeing someone complain on twitter about how 10-12 hour work days were unreasonable and inhumane, and i thought "oh my god, this idiot doesn't know anything, that's the industry standard." i scrolled to see if anyone had said that, only to be met with many replies that made me realize that the fact it's standard to have 10-12hr work days IS the PROBLEM. there's no reason to do that !! split up the workload !! and that's just the standard; shoot days can last longer. folks in the union talk about "golden hour," hour 16 of shooting, where you've technically worked two 8hr days so you have to get paid for an extra days' work in addition to all your overtime, but the crew is instructed to get everyone out as fast as possible as hour 16 approaches so they won't have to pay anyone what they're owed. you get worked for 15 hours and 45 minutes, and you don't get that extra pay. if you're non-union, you don't EVER get that extra pay. it's really fucked up.
13:02 Not getting 1099 is the biggest red flag. It’s as if the company doesn’t want to be held accountable for distributing those wages. Would not surprise me if the company had some unreported wages in upcoming audits.
Dude, as a person who's worked in theatre, I don't know with like... videos, but how the FUCK did they allow a REAL ASS WEAPON on set? that's dangerous for numerous reasons, but also, this should be a lawsuit. Dhar Mann should be in jail for this alone.
jarvis thank you for sharing this story. i don’t interact with dhar man content but i’m appalled at him and his company for treating their actors like this. but i’m also so proud of them for coming together through this and i’ll be sure to check out their independent content
NGL this situation, esp. them forcing actors to set aside multiple days, then only paying them for a few hours of work, almost reminds me of a situation in old-school Hollywood, when Olivia de Haviland sued her contracted movie studio. She was not permitted to do work for other studios without their explicit permission, but they almost entirely gave her small "arm candy" type roles that inhibited her career and didn't pay nearly what a more prominent role would. In fact, some of her biggest parts in that period were when she convinced them to 'loan her out' to other studios. Toward the end of her contract, she started refusing the smaller roles they offered her and was put on a suspension for it. Then, when her contract was set to end, they claimed she owed 6 months of extra time for the 'suspension' period. Her lawsuit was actually a landmark case in Hollywood to benefit the treatment of contractually-obligated actors. I can only assume that the Dhar Mann studio doesn't hire full time actors to get around these sort of obligations to give them rights and benefits. I've seen the same with "adjunct" college teachers who are hired contractually per class and are not considered 'real' employees of the university, so they're paid less and aren't eligible for benefits.
the best revenge ever would be if the actors who left end up having a more successful channel than Dharr, I never watched his videos but I'll definitely check out their channel when it's out
THANK YOU, I was sitting here distracted for half the video because I couldn't put my finger on who he reminded me of in this one. Now I can concentrate.
I'm loving the hair. Can't wait to see how much it grows out Edit: I said that as soon as the video started. Um don't cut it? Unless you said that in the past and already did cut it. Then I love how it's going to look!
i watched their youtube video and honestly their idea seems really fun, i like that it's something with real continuity instead of dhar's repetitive type of content where they can practically re-use entire scripts after a while. i'll definitely be watching it and i hope you make some content with it as well! i might miss dhar mann bingo a little but honestly i rewatch the fact or fiction streams way more anyway

That’s so scary why didn’t they use a fake one or a butter knife 😭 omg. I hope you’re alright
@@P-P-Panda maybe for effects? It seems scarier with a real kitchen knife but it is still a safety hazard
@@liyu1574 You could be right but it would seem still scary if the actors act like it is. Their job is to act after all 😅 (not trying to argue, just wanted to point that out since it's kinda weird they'd choose to use a real knife)
Really sorry you experienced that
The first few months after my family discovered dhar man, I saw something very disturbing on an insta live. You could clearly tell he didn't realize he could be heard. His beautiful wife was approaching him and in a very mean voice he told her to go and change her skimpy clothes. My heart dropped from the shock. No one can convince me he is a good man. There needs to be an investigation into the employees complaints.
Oh that's disgusting
"Boss YELLS At EMPLOYEE For Clothes, She Lives To Regret ..." this is a dhar man video..he obviously does not practice what he preaches
Poor wife should leave dhar if he is that lame
The fact that there are some actors still siding with Dhar Mann when he doesn't pay all his actors fairly leads me to believe that they're being manipulated.
Of course! every time something like this happens there's always a bunch of people supporting the abusing party even though they themselves can easily be in the victim's place.
plus probably they are in a shit place and can't lose their jobs, so they just bear the shitty workplace
anti-union, anti-worker sentiments are nothing but manipulation and the effects of successful propaganda, and this is a clear example
also that says a lot about how artists in general are used to working under shitty conditions

U almost screwed about the feedback box! Lol a suggestion bix and a clipboard is all they can offer???
My immediate thought was: "Oh, they hired a guy to be a *living* suggestion box!" because there's nothing in their description that makes it seem like he's serving a different role, or that the feedback he receives has any more chance of being passed on to or taken seriously by anyone with the power to address it

Jarvis is such a king for this. Dhar Mann reactions/bingo are some of the most popular series on his channel.
That honestly sucks so much
That was what I was thinking about for the actors that stuck with him.
It really was a last little kick in the teeth meant to make the protesters feel like they “betrayed him.”

The most fucked up thing about the video Dharr posted with the employees is that after all of the refusing to meet with actors or talk to the people he wronged he then blasts on social media that he’s willing to meet with certain people if they’re “supportive.” I also see that as an abuse of power.
It's so disgusting that it was "absolutely impossible" for Dhar to meet with the protesting actors, but he DOES have time to meet his supporter actors to film a cutesy skit about family.

paying hourly but only for that very specific few hours they’re actively acting, instead of all the hours they’re on set/told they’re needed, is straight up wage theft. it’s not an uncommon grift when it comes to guys like dhar who are only concerned about making as much money as possible (which means finding ways to pay others as little as possible). seen it so many times but laws almost always favor the business owners over their workers in america, and owners more often win in court cases when challenged.

Accidents happen and if either of them tripped it could lead to life changing injuries (death is probably unlikely but if an actor has a facial injury/scar it can affect their livelihood and financial means) and if she had any trauma memories related to someone pulling a knife on her etc, it could’ve given her such a severe panic attack it could have required hospitalization and sedation.

and that's just the standard; shoot days can last longer. folks in the union talk about "golden hour," hour 16 of shooting, where you've technically worked two 8hr days so you have to get paid for an extra days' work in addition to all your overtime, but the crew is instructed to get everyone out as fast as possible as hour 16 approaches so they won't have to pay anyone what they're owed. you get worked for 15 hours and 45 minutes, and you don't get that extra pay. if you're non-union, you don't EVER get that extra pay. it's really fucked up.
It is always heartbreaking when these big corporations just get away with stuff like this.
13:02 Not getting 1099 is the biggest red flag. It’s as if the company doesn’t want to be held accountable for distributing those wages. Would not surprise me if the company had some unreported wages in upcoming audits.
this whole situation gives me a metallic taste in my mouth. it’s a bit of an irony flavor
Lmao great pun
This deserves way more likes 😂
That's brilliant
Dude, as a person who's worked in theatre, I don't know with like... videos, but how the FUCK did they allow a REAL ASS WEAPON on set? that's dangerous for numerous reasons, but also, this should be a lawsuit. Dhar Mann should be in jail for this alone.
I hope Jarvis’s haircut isn’t too drastic, I was excited for him to go full 2000’s Corbin bleu
jarvis thank you for sharing this story. i don’t interact with dhar man content but i’m appalled at him and his company for treating their actors like this. but i’m also so proud of them for coming together through this and i’ll be sure to check out their independent content
I've seen the same with "adjunct" college teachers who are hired contractually per class and are not considered 'real' employees of the university, so they're paid less and aren't eligible for benefits.
the best revenge ever would be if the actors who left end up having a more successful channel than Dharr, I never watched his videos but I'll definitely check out their channel when it's out
Is it just me or is Jarvis in the perfect state in this video to cosplay as Inigo Montoya?
And/or Lionel Richie… and/or Weird Al 😅
THANK YOU, I was sitting here distracted for half the video because I couldn't put my finger on who he reminded me of in this one. Now I can concentrate.
@@oldvlognewtricks I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking he’s resembling various members of The Commodores.
I'm loving the hair. Can't wait to see how much it grows out
Edit: I said that as soon as the video started. Um don't cut it? Unless you said that in the past and already did cut it. Then I love how it's going to look!
I really liked this look too! I thought it was gonna stick around a while
i watched their youtube video and honestly their idea seems really fun, i like that it's something with real continuity instead of dhar's repetitive type of content where they can practically re-use entire scripts after a while. i'll definitely be watching it and i hope you make some content with it as well! i might miss dhar mann bingo a little but honestly i rewatch the fact or fiction streams way more anyway
I’m happy that Jarvis is trying his best to amplify the protesting actors’ voices. As someone who’s heard many horror stories of the industry, it’s nice to see someone with a platform giving their support.
