I swear I remember as a kid, maybe at five or six, that TLC was ACTUALLY a learning channel. I thought I watched that channel whenever I stayed home from school because I was sick, and it for sure wasn't this nonsense.
I'll never forget the time I spent New years with my Mormon friend from drama school. Half way through my stay I was quickly ushered into my friend's bedroom & told to stay put & not make myself known. Little did I know that two Mormon church representatives turned up at their front door over hearing that they were entertaining a homosexual (me) over the holidays. The next thing my friend opened the bedroom door where I'd been holed up & just told me she'd been X communicated from the church. I flew home bewildered.
@@mandolen3317 sadly, two decades later, I find out my friend's life had turned on its head 180⁰. As in many students relationships we lost contact after the initial first few years of graduating (class of 2000). We were very close & I missed her but keeping up the friendship with us being at different ends of the island (she returned home to Scotland & myself home was London). Roughly 4-5 years ago I tried to seek my lost friend with the help of the internet but my investigating led me only down dead ends which I found odd & slightly perplexing especially given the line of professional work we'd been trained in. Even more so with my lost friend. She was such an incredibly talented actress & I stress INCREDIBLY talented she was the only exception our drama school made in it's entire history of offering her a place straight after she completed her training at the age of sixteen from the world renowned performing arts school Silvia Young (18 yrs of age was standard procedure to enroll at our drama school. I was accepted at the age of 19). Anyhoo, I managed to find a mutual drama school friend of ours & contacted her in regards to finding said lost friend. My mouth dropped at what she told me. Our friend had completely scrubbed out her past life due to we think, a build up of guilt having lived a typical, colourful teenage life in dirty, seedy London. That combined with apparently meeting with who was to become her partner who also just happened to be, a devout Mormon! She rejoined the church head first with gusto probably because her first experience with Mormonism cut so deep it inevitably brainwashed her that that's where the guilt layed. I think she may have felt the increasing feeling of needing to redeem her once religious, indoctrinated values in fear of when the time came her conscience was cleared from past "evils" & she'd be at peace meeting her maker, though I am speculating here, somewhat. My only hope is that she is at peace with her taken path & not in "pieces". I doubt I'll ever know for sure. So, here goes......Gemma my love. I think about you all the bloody time. I hope you're mummy to your beautiful children & that your partner thinks you're amazing & gifted as I always did. You'll always be a big part of my bumptious, juvenile memories & I can't apologise enough to you for probably being the reason you were banished from the church all those years ago (knowing what I know now about the Mormon church they may have used the "homosexual" card as a deploy to mask the actual reason as to why the X communication but I'm no fool as to how much my kind is actively discouraged from having anything to do with the religion let alone, god forbid, joining the Mormon church).......Long winded, I know (sorry to any patient readers & thank you for taking the time to read my only experience with this odd religion)but actually I rather found myself typing this story cathartic & I hope enlightening for you, the reader...😇

Bi people exist… in a range too. They don’t all just love anyone. Some are physically attracted to people they share a gender identity with but aren’t romantically or socially attracted, two things that gay people are.
I really would love to hear her describe what the difference is to her. I tried to look it up just now and all I got was a webMD article that says SSA is attraction to the same sex regardless of one's own gender identity, which is WAY too progressive to be what the Mormon church believes.
Because it is , it’s “sibling s3xual 4ssault/abus3”. There are multiple definitions of SSA , you have to specifically look for it in the way I’m referring to, but it is a term used among survivors and some medical organizations. The biggest definition in the US of SSA is the social security administration, then there’s “same sex attracted” and finally sibling s3xual abus3 . There’s probably more obscure ones but these are the ones I know. So yeah 3 pretty different definitions under the same acronym.
No, definitely not! Thankfully, blessedly, their wives are the one single woman in the would that they're attracted to! Isn't that convenient? Phew! 😂🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@Supermoneygang12 They could be married to straight men too. The are more options are not being a beard or single cat lady. Divorce is allowed in Mormonism.
I used to be a part of a “ministry” for men and women who “struggled with same sex attraction” called Live Hope. It was very Baptist/Christian based it was one of the saddest groups of people I ever met in my life. There was always this longing in each of us to connect with each other on a deeper level, but this insane guilt and shame that we felt for wanting that. Many of us are now happily out and proud.
So sorry you guys went through that. Life is already hard enough, I can’t imagine adding that on top of it. I wish no one ever had to feel like that 🤦♀️
I just saw a Reddit post about a lady’s fiancé cheating on her while in Utah because apparently the air and elevation made him temporarily gay. And he thus hooked up with his male coworker
When I was a young, closeted bisexual man living in a very conservative/bigoted area, the gay dating sites were FULL of profiles like “straight married older seeks young companion” etc… it was gross, but this kinda thing is exactly what happens when you live in a repressive environment. The feelings don’t disappear (they can’t), they just manifest in far less moral and far more toxic ways.
And then certain people will make claims like gay people never existed until recently and only because society is accepting them now. It's painful that they can't put it together themselves. 😅
No, maybe most males are just actually gay and are too cowardly to come out then blame others for their cowardess, leaving broken women and kids in the wake of their selfishness.
The second that poor woman said "so how do you all.. know each other" i hollered. That group absolutely sabotaged or attempted to sabotaged that date and they are scumbags for that
It really sent me overnight shipping when those gay men in the clothing store looked at each other in a perturbed way when the husbands describe ‘SSA’ like regretting engaging with them

Well yeah in their eyes it is a mental illness. The way they see it, if it isn't in 'Gods will' then it must be a sickness that needs to be cured. They're brainwashed essentially and it's pretty sad
Oh to them it is. They are told not to act on it and god will “cure” them in heaven. If they do act on it then they’re not allowed to be a full member of the church, which means base tier heaven for them and no cure.
I mean, it's too bad so many people feel they have to deny who they are (or who their spouses are) in order to conform to the standards of others instead of just trying to be themselves and be happy. Because this isn't fair to either partner in these relationships.
Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that the whole reason their little "SSA" club even exists is so that the guys can do sneaky cheating together? But they have convinced the poor wifes that this is a "support group"??? Yeah us guys totally support each other to NOT do gay sins, toooootalyyyyyy... When we hang out together we read bible verses and pray the gay away that's what we do... That one husband even said it got out of control one time he invited other men to a slumber party. He's so starved for human touch with other men, the second he's alone with other men he just can't control it. Why are they doing this to themselves and their poor wives? This level of self hatred is just sad.

SSA is something you have. Gay is something you are. It’s part of that hate the sin, love the sinner shit. If you ARE something bad like gay you can’t do anything about it, but if you HAVE SSA, you can(in their minds) not have it if you try hard enough.

It's just another way for Christians to go against their own faith without openly admitting to doing so. Most modern Christians are straight up degenerate hedonists like the rest of us, they just live in denial or think that going to church on Sundays makes up for being totally godless for the rest of the week. PICK ONE OR THE OTHER! Yes we're all sinners and born of sin or whatever, but that isn't a free pass to act like fuckin field animals, you're still supposed to try to practice moral willpower. In what sense of the word are you still a "Christian" at that point? The Amish are probably the most legitimate Christian sect, they're modest and actually live according to scripture, yet they're humble and not half as condescending or preachy as a lot of these false Christians.

Listen this is better than what happened when I was going to BYU. I was in a marriage and family course (ironic) and hit it off with this guy in the class who asked me out. I got all excited and was talking about it to my semi-closeted (he sometimes went out with men then felt guilty and would go back to acting straight) coworker as we carpooled to work. He asked to see the dude’s picture, got quiet, and said “his name is so-and-so. I went out with him last week”.
@ yep. It was what I was supposed to do as a “good Mormon”, he was a nice guy and the date was already planned. I did tell him ahead of time what I found out and we had an honest if brief discussion about it and I think I still went so he didn’t feel awkward as well. But I also never developed a romantic attraction to him because of what I knew. We got along great but I didn’t want to be part of anyone living a lie so it never went beyond that. He is married to a woman now.
So many Mormons are rich. My dad is pretty upper middle class and he is a software engineer, which is another common job. Most wives don’t work and it’s just the men. They get super stable jobs, that end up being pretty high paying.
Imagine how miserable and in denial you’d have to be to live like this. Forget the church dogma and just be you… for both of you in the relationship. You’ll both be happier in the end.
There is a Law and Order episode called Lowdown that comes to mind, where one character says: "I have relationships with women, and sex with men" and Fin says "Well I have news for you, that means you gay" that came to mind instantly.
Off the subject on more about technique: your editing - back and forth between the video and your intermittent comments - was *perfect* . This isn't always the case on youtube videos, where the commentary interrupts the subject at hand for too long (and too often!) and becomes absolutely MADDENING to watch! So bravo for that, and - by th way - the topic and coverage!
The Mormonism jump scare I had when I clicked on this video GOD 😭😭😭 Okay, I’m ex Mormon and a lesbian I’ll give you a little context. Often gay Mormon men (used to be more common but happens less now) were told explicitly to just marry a woman and it would make their ‘same sex attraction feelings’ go away. They’re basically promised that God is gonna wipe it all away. Mind you, Mormon heaven is split into different levels and you can’t get into the top level unless you are married in a straight relationship. So their salvation is on the line along with their reputation among their community. It’s messed up and also it makes me so mad that women are treated like a bandaid in these situations rather than a human with feelings and a right to have a spouse that actually fully loves and is attracted to them. It infuriates me how women are treated in the Mormon church but because we were brainwashed from birth to accept pretty much anything messed up that happens to us, that’s why you get those comments that the one wife made in the beginning like: we choose this and we’re not oppressed. Also yeah, they use the term SSA although it’s being used less now, because it’s a way to keep gay people separate from gay culture and connecting with other queer people. They want them to feel like it’s a disease, that’s how the church views it. Anyways lol, it wouldn’t be hard for TLC to find gay Mormons in straight relationships because it’s VERY VERY common. They might just be quiet about it- that would make it hard. Anyways I’m happily gay and live with my partner now. 💖💖💖
I stayed in a heterosexual relationship for 4 years because I was sincerely struggling with comphet. I knew i wasn’t attracted to him, but I did love and care for him and I thought you just make sacrifices like attraction for your relationship. If I could go back, I would live out and proud and save him from the hurt I caused by not being honest with him. I seriously feel for the women in these situations. They deserve to be with someone who is attracted to them, and the men deserve to be with someone who they are attracted to
I’ve always felt attraction is just as important as personality and intellect. As well as things like their political and religious beliefs. All those things play a part into why you’re attracted to them. I’ve always thought that people who say looks don’t matter to me are full of sh*t! I couldn’t imagine being in a 4 year relationship with someone and not even be attracted to their sex.
@@mason4354 @KyleP133 “comphet” stands for “compulsory heterosexuality”. it’s a term used in queer spaces to explain what the guys in this video are doing. it’s a mentality of “well- i mean guys are hot but like i’m straight, i can just acknowledge a guy is attractive” or “well like… i like talking to this girl and she’s a good friend of mine. i guess i could see myself dating her and kissing her might not be that bad”. basically a mode of thinking where you’re gaslighting yourself into thinking your own gay thoughts and feelings are just “what everyone feels” and that platonic feelings for the opposite sex must somehow be romantic or sexual attraction. contrapoints video “shame” goes over some aspects of comphet really well.
My partner and I are both bisexual, with him being more straight and me being more gay. The spectrum is real and as long as you're honest relationships can work.
I'm bi, but I like to date men exclusively. Like I will fuck anything that comes my way, man, woman, anything inbetween. I just tend to prefer a typical "man" sterotype when it comes to a romantic relationship. Bisexuality is a spectum, but people don't seem to understand the nuance and honestly probably won't understand for a long time unfortunately.
If it wasn’t herself trying to convince herself that her man is not gay, and it was all him by sending her home with books, that is the wildest gaslighting I have ever seen 😂
@ honestly it’s probably some sort of religious book that the average person would never see or know exists. I get the vibe that the real reason they’re using the term “same sex attraction” is because it’s a type of loophole since being “gay” is against their religion. There are all sorts of religious books that exist for random scenarios like this and my guess is that quite a few people would consider those books homophobic.

That's brutal, but good for her in long run.
so is there girls in relationships there with SSA?
Wow. I am so sorry for you and your friend. That is rough. I grew up Mormon. Excommunications feel more rampant these days. The church wants total control and is losing that right now.

I really would love to hear her describe what the difference is to her.
I tried to look it up just now and all I got was a webMD article that says SSA is attraction to the same sex regardless of one's own gender identity, which is WAY too progressive to be what the Mormon church believes.
SSA = gay and bi. She probably thinks he’s bi.
I mean he could be bisexual but that man is very gay
The term "SSA" sounds like an abbreviation of some kind of crime 😂💀 "He committed 'SSA' against me"
Because it is , it’s “sibling s3xual 4ssault/abus3”.
Imagine being married to someone who isn’t attracted to you in the slightest. These women must feel so empty.

@Supermoneygang12 They could be married to straight men too. The are more options are not being a beard or single cat lady. Divorce is allowed in Mormonism.
@@TheBayzentyes it is
I used to be a part of a “ministry” for men and women who “struggled with same sex attraction” called Live Hope. It was very Baptist/Christian based it was one of the saddest groups of people I ever met in my life. There was always this longing in each of us to connect with each other on a deeper level, but this insane guilt and shame that we felt for wanting that. Many of us are now happily out and proud.
And yes, we all did not identify as gay, but as people who struggled with SSA.
Gross that's gay dude

i always thought hikers were generally kind of gay, didnt know it was conditional but thats awesome we stan gay mountains
I saw that too! Wild!
So unfortunate…
That last sentence is what so many fail to understand. Self-acceptance does not lead to deviant behavior, self-loathing and self-hatred does.
Very honest comment, thank you.
No, maybe most males are just actually gay and are too cowardly to come out then blame others for their cowardess, leaving broken women and kids in the wake of their selfishness.

@@acm_1028 Dude same for me.
The Mormonism jump scare I had when I clicked on this video GOD 😭😭😭
Okay, I’m ex Mormon and a lesbian I’ll give you a little context.
What the heck is comphet
But also the risk of excommunication
What the heck is comphet?
This is exactly what my eyes needed to be blessed with today.

I'm bi, but I like to date men exclusively. Like I will fuck anything that comes my way, man, woman, anything inbetween. I just tend to prefer a typical "man" sterotype when it comes to a romantic relationship.
I'm surprised dude didn't tell her they were going camping with quotey fingers. She rolls her eyes because she knows...

Never thought I hear gays and Mormons in the same sentence. The intro theme sounds like the beginning of a Western film but instead of gunfights, its drama involving couples who's husbands aren't being honest about their feelings of attraction. Thank u for raising awareness @Chris James.
Gays? Where did you hear gay? It is same sex attraction.
I think this is a fairly common condundrum is a lot of religions. They know and accept they are gay, but chose their religion. Fascinating way to live.
@@BlckSWANWhtRbbt Fascinating indeed and worthy of study. I wonder what drives them to live like that?
Mormon's can't be gay, they can only be "same sex attracted".
Has The Learning Channel taught you nothing?
how is this not satire? also those guys are definitely banging. "guy time", yeah i saw that heath ledger movie about "guy time".
also thats true about ryan reynolds.
The fact you have a shaving sponsor for a show about some obviously gay men and their 'beards' is fantastic!
2:08 The original origin of that meme.

There's gotta be more people walking around named Pretzel than Pret.
The dude who said “you should get THAT dog” definitely has a crush on the blind date guy. He is so jealous he couldn’t help but say that 😂😂😂
I know a couple where I swear the husband is gay or bisexual but won’t admit it
