I love Rod but he can be frustrating sometimes lol. You don't have to be a huge Drake fan to know how much of a commercial success he is. I agree that it's not an automatic "yes" vote for Drake just cause he's hot now, but anyone who has been to one of his shows can tell you how much of a crazy white and female following he has, which is arguably more important to a modern rap artist's longevity than any other eye test. Overall though this debate is kind of impossible to do because of the way new music is consumed. Jay Z has the advantage of more than 15 years of a head start on Drake during a time when people bought CDs. So you have to compare the same amount of time spent to make it a fair comparison to look at album sales, singles sales, streaming (which favors Drake because he's current), tour gross adjusted for inflation etc. I would say comparing Jay Z 96-06, Drake from 2010-2020 would be more fair, but not perfect because of the CDs versus streaming counts. Other than that, name recognition is important in this. How many non-rap fans know Jay Z from Drake from Pac from from Wayne from Kendrick from Eminem etc.? These are all hard questions to know if you don't have a nuanced take on what "popularity" means. For now I say Jay or Eminem followed by Kanye and Pac should be up high overall, but Drake is getting there faster because he crosses over and is strategically more global than most artists because of his sound "borrowing."

I mean, I know you probably don't like the guy, but if we're talking "biggest rapper ever" you got to give it to Eminem; even we're talking in the US only. He had a huge debut to say the least. MMLP had the highest first week sales ever. The Eminem Show is the biggest selling rap album ever. Certified Diamond. MMLP is the second most sold album ever, diamond aswell. Lose Yourself is an Oscar winning song and a diamond single. This is 2002. I could stop here and it would be enough to call him the biggest rapper ever (except maybe 2pac). People who say Eminem's run lasted until this point clearly don't know what they are talking about. Recovery is almost diamond and two singles in it are certified diamond - Not Afraid, Love The Way You Lie. This is 2010. MMLP2 and Relapse we're also huge with singles like We Made You and Rap God. No Hip- Hop artist has even come close to these numbers. Even today with people considering Eminem not relevant he is breaking attendance records and Kamikaze was the most sold album of 2018 (pure sales only). I could go on and on to prove my point, but I going to stop here. I think credit must be given where credit is due. You are too isolated in your bias and social media bubble to really have a valid conversation about this topic.
It’s simple. Americans need to take a look at the rest of the world on this issue. I’m from Portugal. I can tell you, no one here is listening to Jay like that. Some hip hop heads, sure. But not the majority of people. But I bet you, everyone knows at least three Drake songs. Therefore, he is the bigger artist, in the sense that he’s the most popular globally. I’m with Myke and Feefo on this one. Btw, Myke’s reactions to Rod were hillarious 🤣
@@ericeira23 You said he is the the bigger artist considering only your point of view regarding Portugal, without mentioning statistics or even examples from more populous countries, don't pretend like you didn't. Rod and Kinge are clearly in denial. All you gotta do is look at Drake’s ig for pics of the Scorpion tour. Mycke and Feefo are the only ones making sense.

Drake barely edges out Jay-Z for total sales, at 107 million and 100 million respectively. That does not include streams, that's pure sales. Kanye out does both by a considerable margin with 132 million. And Eminem demolishes all of them at 220 million sales.
@Daniel Hill drake came out in 2009. Eminem since releases 2 diamond certified singles. Recovery alone sold more then any Drake Album. MMLP2 was the 2nd best selling album in 2013, and that shit came out in November. He dropped a surprise album and it debuted at number 1 and it went platinum. Now that's the last 10 years. Em also the only rapper who has 2 diamond certified albums. He's the best selling artist of the 2000s. He's the 2nd best selling male artist behind Garth Brooks. He's still breaking attendance records worldwide. And he broke the record for Wembley stadium 2 night in a row back to back.
I hate belittling Eminem’s career but he is literally only the top selling artist because of the shade of his skin. The man skill is undeniable, but musically he hasn’t been great since the 2000s. If Eminem was black, he would’ve never went diamond. Never.
@@BoiTrey725 that is incorrect. Biggie, Outkast, 2 Pac,.and MC Hammer have all gone Diamond. The only White Rap artists to go Diamond are Em and The Beastie Boys. There is a huge chance that if Em were Black, he could've went Diamond if the music was still of the caliber that it was. People only use his skin color when they want to write him off, but forget that Em literally had to be as good as he is skill wise to even be given a chance in the first place. His actual skill is just as integral to his success as his skin color. For a White rapper to succeed in the 90s, especially after Vanilla Ice, he had to be no less than one of the better/best rappers out in terms of skill. Without that skill, his skin color wouldn't have helped him because Black Rap fans, rappers, and tastemakers would've rejected him.
Davon T. V. Did you not see the part when I said his skill is undeniable? Let’s not forget he had the best producer of all time co-sign and produce his best projects. Like put it into perspective, after the MMLP, none of his projects can hold a candle to Drake’s worst shit. But he’s (Em) still the top selling artist. Plus you used 2 rappers who died to reach diamond and MC Hammer to help your argument... Are you kidding me?
Eminem is in his own league. Literally has outsold everybody else in the game, for example. This conversation was really entertaining to watch, though. Hilarious stuff.

For a White rapper to succeed in the 90s, especially after Vanilla Ice, he had to be no less than one of the better/best rappers out in terms of skill. Without that skill, his skin color wouldn't have helped him because Black Rap fans, rappers, and tastemakers would've rejected him.

em out sold both

@@gkay8889 sorry but yep em has the biggest sales numbers
@@gkay8889 Eminem is not just the best selling rapper of all time, he's literally the best selling artist of 21st century across all genres.
DEHH Convo always forget Eminem.....They also forgot him in their convo for who can drop an album without promo.
@On The DEAD Loc's you got drake as your profile picture of course you'd think that. Facts say otherwise
@On The DEAD Loc's 😂😂 you have a scorpion avi
@On The DEAD Loc's oh that's easy then lol Eminem has 2 Diamond Albums the only other artist who does is 2Pac. drake has a single Diamond album. Eminem has 3 Diamond singles something drake does not have a single one of. He is still the highest selling Hip-hop artist of all time and of the decade from 2000-2010. He has broken more records in more countries than anyone else facts. He had the highest viewed music video in 24 hours with Killshot. Is that enough facts for you? That's for proving that you only know how to insult and you're actually the dumb fuck dick rider
@On The DEAD Loc's i think he is, he's sold more albums than any artist in history. and whenever eminem drops anything the internet just stops. IF he were to upload a freestyle right now everyone would stop what they're doing to go check it out.
@On The DEAD Loc's with physical sales eminem's album sold the most last year too. But to your kanye point. If he did That people would check it out to see what crazy shit he's saying now. Not to see how dope it is 😂
he’s not bigger than em was back in the day
Overall he has that's the point of all time

8 mile definitely helped
Let’s be realistic now....the masses of teenagers nowadays haven’t even heard a full Jay Z album. Drake literally has fans from every walk of life, any age. Jay Z is not bringing in the younger crowd like Drake is, period.
Thank you . debate over
TJ B. Yeah even recent albums no teen or kid is going to listen to 444 lol
@@glory2god4infinity63 True but to be fair, 4-44 wasn't meant for teens to listen to just like lil Pump really for old heads.
Garryn Wingfield I was speaking to Rod’s argument of Drake can’t sell out arenas. (Which is ridiculous)
And this is very true but to be fair Jay has had 23 years in the game. Drake has only been out for a decade. So only time will tell
TJ B. and it’s going to be a point where teenagers won’t even care to listen to Drake
Lol that point is invalid because when a niggas time passes it passes
I Thought This Conversation Was Going To Be About Drake Vs Eminem Since Eminem Is The Only One That Can Fight When It Comes To Numbers Against Drake And Even Outsold him Is Some Areas
If we talking top 10 biggest RAPPERs of all time (not best)
than its probably:
1.Eminem (#1 Bestselling by far, most name recognition)
2.Jay Z (2nd best selling plus most iconic, 2nd highest name recognition)
3.Kanye West (arguably even more famous than Drake, most influential of all time)
4.Drake (3rd best selling, although most of his hits are pop or RNB, that's why he's not higher.
5.Lil Wayne (one of the best selling, dominated rap for 5 years)
6. 50 Cent (everyone knows who he is, had a huge run)
7.Snoop Dogg (arguably the second most recognized rapper of all time, my grandmother even knows who he is)
8.Kendrick Lamar (He became mainstream after DAMN, outsold drake, known internationally)
9. 2Pac (one of the highest selling artists of all time, his death was a big reason for it.)
10.Nelly (Kinda like Drake, mans had hits for days)
I think Eminem is the biggest rapper commercially. He’s sold over 200 million records, 10 number one albums, and 5 number one singles. Then after that I’ll say Drake
Yeah MMLP went diamond And so did " the eminem show " . Even kamikaze was the highest selling album last year in P.S . So in phisical sales no one is touching Em But in streaming although Em is doing fine there too he is not close to drake
@@brandonayong7656 Em was only close to Drake in streams when Kamikaze dropped. Drake was #1 on Spotify & Em was 2. In terms of streams though, there's a handful of artists currently slapping Drake 😂
@THE VICEVERSA PODCAST oh no absolutely. I was just commenting on the streaming aspect. Make no mistake, the streaming system is fucked up.
Drake is RIAA #1 Top Certified Artist Ever. Eminem is #3. Drake has 6 #1 singles, 33 Top 10 Hits and 8 #1 albums consecutively.
@@msawmusic Top Certified SINGLES artist. Number one, Drake is a Single monster while Eminem is not. Number 2, Drake gets way more radio play than Eminem because of the types of songs he makes. That part's not even really a debate 😂 Number 3, since this is all numbers talk, Drake having more fans because of way more cross-over + being a big Single Artist + all the radio play is gonna inevitably equal higher numbers. But like I also said, Drake's getting slapped in streams on Spotify. I'm not a 'numbers' guy, that's just what everyone here's talking about.
Drake had the highest grossing hip hop tour ever lmaoooooooooooo
Biggest ever? I would say Eminem
I agree...if you only talking record sales. Overall, I'd put Jay-Z above him. Pac and Biggie had bigger influence for sure. I'd place Em above Wayne or Kanye, but those guys get talked about like they're bigger then they actually are, I think.
To reddit users
@@Franz_Morhart They get talked about the way they do because they're more infuential and impactful then em! When you look at the game today how many children do Kanye and Wayne have versus em!?
franz morhart Even with Pac being thrown in there I still have to say Eminem from ‘99 - ‘04 was the biggest run a rapper can ever have, granted he’s still setting records & selling out arenas with little promo today. Pac was definitely big but I feel he was the biggest only within the black community while Em appealed to both black & white (not to say Pac didn’t appeal to white people but you know what I mean). I feel like LL Cool J, N.W.A, Biggie, Pac, Kanye, Wayne & Drake deserve to be in the conversation in terms of their peak popularity & who’s been the biggest rapper in the world.
Al Simmons Objectively, Eminem has more “babies” than Ye & Wayne. I’m not making assumptions but maybe you’ve only seen & noted the rappers that say Ye & Wayne influenced them. Because there is a WIDE plethora of rapper who says Em was (or one of) their biggest influence.
Eminem still the biggest. Check the international numbers! 💯
No
I think in terms of rappers he’s top 3. Gotta give drake more time to say he at that level
whos rllt bumping em common u dont bear him every where like drake
@@CT-yr8ph More time? As far as i'm concerned Drake fell off years ago when he started to steal literally every trend in hiphop over the backs of new artists.

EMiNEM ain't dead. Eminem is still the best selling, he hasn't outsold em yet!
Of course. Em has a least a decade over Drake. But in terms of consistency in the last 5 years, I'll say Drake.
Damn em have a 10year head start dude. but agree eminem is best selling all time, but that could be drake very soon.
Total sales of records Drake has outsold every artist ever.

MrNikhilmeel Lil Wayne is bigger than Em trust me on that.
That's because Em is always selling out the ass. It's not even a convo no more.

Em? Highest selling hip hop artist of all time✔white audience(come on)✔ selling out tours✔
Em does 5 dates every 3 years on tours.
@@sbrooks904 and Jay tours regularly? Also Em would sell out an arena tour every few months if he wanted. He would just rather spend time with his daughters. Now that they are grown though I bet he starts touring more.
Cold take. Drake tours more than Jay and Em. You cant just make an inference that "Em would sell out if he toured more" and call that a fact.
Brett Purdy Eminem is white. Who else would listen to him? Doesn’t count
Nah did you see the end of the video they looked it up he's not the biggest selling Hip Hop artist of all time, Jay has hugely outsold him over the course of both their respective careers
Drake has had the greatest run in rap history. Rod is out of his mind thinking Jay Z was ever bigger than Jay.
Eminem sells out Arena's in secs not mins literally secs with attendance of 80k or more :o how can you even say Drake is close at all. Eminem has been the #1 selling hip hop artist in the 21 cent and literally 2 almost 3 era's of hip hop wtf :O are you guys really talking about. Also the first hiphop artist on spotify to have 10 plus albums with 1 billion streams each!!!!
Bro Jay can BARLEY fill arenas now by himself...
Not the biggest Drake fan but he has more hits than the Beatles and he sells out arenas constantly
The problem with the argument is that they weren't clear about what they meant by popularity. In my mind I thought it wasn't necessarily about sales but more about how many people know who they are. My hispanic mom and my grandma won't buy a Drake album but they know who he is. I just think he's more popular worldwide.
Eric Kobak That’s hella false

Eminem and 2Pac are the highest selling hip-hop artists of all time.
2Pac was number one in hip-hop album sales until Eminem passed him in 2010.
Lmao how did Pac have the most album sales up until 2010 if he died in 96.
@Lunar Orbit so Pac was selling more albums consitantly than Eminem even after his death all the way up to 2010?
@@tigermusky765 yes 2pac was. His greatest hits album, released after his death, sold over 10 million. 2pac and Eminem are the only two rappers to have two diamond albums.
I would argue that 2pac is a bigger rapper than Eminem as Eminem only reaches white demographics worldwide for the most part, whereas 2pac reaches everyone, from western society to Africa to the Caribbeans and Hispanic communities.

@@jscooby_810 I made a typo- I meant to say 'two' not "to".
this just became a Jay vs Drake debate - the Drake sales mentioned were not accurate. Drake is the highest streamed hip hop artist - not surprising given it is the streaming era and Drake is the biggest artist in this era. No mention of Eminem - the highest selling artist with a huge album catalogue and huge sales numbers...
there is no difference between streams and sales at this point. RIAA certifications count them together
If we're talking all time wouldn't Eminem possibly be more popular than Drake and Jay Z? At the height of Eminems popularity he was basically a pop star
So are we just going to sit here and act like Jay ain't take DMX with him on the Hard Knock Life tour in '99 when X was just as big if not BIGGER than Jay at the time??? Just curious.

Eminem literally just broke attendance records in Australia and New Zealand. He performed in front of 81,000 at the MCG in Melbourne. A new attendance record at the venue....
Like I think Drake is the king in the Streaming Era... but would people go to stores and get the albums or would they just listen to the singles?
