Why Don't Indians Buy Gaming Consoles? (Video Game Market Tour 🇮🇳)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2020
- Gaming is huge in India, but gaming consoles are nearly non-existent in India. Why is that? I went to a video game market in New Delhi to see the condition of the market and tell you why barely anyone are buying Xboxs, Playstations, or Switches in India.
This is the largest video game market in Delhi, located in Karol Bagh's Gaffar Market. But that's not saying much, because there are only 5 video game stores there! The rest of Delhi's stores are scattered around the city. It's quite a strange thing when resellers in India tend to clump around in single locations like Nehru Place for computer parts, Gaffar Market for mobile phones, or Banjara Market for antiques.
At these game stores, all consoles are available including Xbox Series X and Playstation 5. Even Nintendo switches are available, even though Nintendo doesn't officially sell in India.
If you want to avoid India's high prices for video game consoles, there's really only one way. You have to have a friend from the US carry your console back for you. That way you can avoid the incredibly high duty taxes. Or a shopping trip to Dubai will also work if you're buying multiple expensive items while you're there.
Stores I visited (I don't do brand deals or sponsorships, don't worry!):

In India, we (most of us)cant even think of telling our parents to spend 40000 on something just for playing video games.
At Best, we take our chances with gaming laptops pretending that we will also be using it for our studies and it will add so much value to our studies hoping they agree.
But I know 20 yrs from now on, my son won't be able to use this on me LOL
Why would your son have to? Wouldn't you, as a grown adult, just have your own console? Wouldn't you just let them play on yours too lol ? The reason we had it so hard growing up was because most of our parents didn't have consoles after all.
@@TachibanaTengoku I have a gaming laptop and would certainly let my kids play on it in the future. As for my parents, they grew up in a time where playing games meant "sticks and stones" , literally no kidding.

Famicom or NES clones, such as Terminator VI were quite popular here in 1990s up to 2015. Those had a cassette with a chip that you inserted into a slot. Stock chips had 99999999 in 1 games (all terrible copies of each other), while good chips came as 4-in-1. These were quite affordable.

I hope you had a great time in India! When it comes to gaming there, console prices can be pretty steep. I still remember when I was a kid, trying to convince my parents to get me a high-end gaming PC was a real challenge. My first PC didn't even come with a GPU, so you can imagine the struggle. Now, as a 3D artist, I've set up my own studio. However, many Indians are shifting towards mobile gaming because traditional gaming setups are just too pricey. You've probably noticed that in the markets, there are plenty of counterfeit consoles that resemble PS5 or Xbox, but they're filled with cheap components. To avoid getting ripped off, it's best to purchase from reputable malls or trusted online retailers like Amazon or Flipkart.
Karl: I don't need to game anymore, I'm the main character of GTA Delhi.
Sounds like a modded ps2 version of GTA Sandreas
@@anotherdaytobetheslayer7091 lol
Few Reasons I can give because i have been gaming since very long time:
1. Gaming is really expensive comparing to Indian salary. Console brand new game costs 4k which is too much when an average salary of Indian comes around 20k. Its like spending 20% of ur salary on one game. Its insane.
2. Indians think that spending money on game is worthless, where as many would happily spend money on movies and other things. Hence mobile games and pirated pc games are very popular in India. Also asking parents and convincing them to buy a Console is not practical. Even i had gamed long time in my pc by downloading pirated copies because of that. I was not able to demand my parents to by me PS1,2 or 3, but i could afford ps4 myself after i got job also waiting on PS5.
3. Indians have a mentality that gaming is for kids, which is not true. There are so many games on Console develped only for mature audiences.
Indians have less salary so savings will be less and can't afford to buy expensive gaming consoles. But in the West salary is high so savings is more and they can easily afford expensive gaming consoles
Actually a avarage indian get 11,268 ruppes per month
@@aniketjaiswal3147 Not everyone's salary is great in the West, but some will still spend using credit cards which is a bad idea.

MORE video gaming content please from other countries?! Thanks!
Makes sense or least now I understand why I met a few Indian folks in MMO games that would raid or log in late hours there or even morning to raid with the USA night schedule. I ended up becoming friends with some and we still talk and are close to this day years later. None of them really talked console games with me or even Nintendo as of course Mario is a name recognized worldwide but as I learned over the past 30 years or so Nintendo/SNES weren't as big overseas and Amiga and such were.
Damn, those guys when you were sitting on that bench were so annoying. These guys give the country a bad image. Leave the tourist alone and don’t crowd him unnecessarily.
Absolutely right 😌
I agree, completely. But at the same time, I wonder if they think he's famous because he's speaking into his own camera, something they're probably not used to seeing. Not trying to defend it, more just wondering why on earth they would just walk up and stare... 🤷♂️
@@FR0_MAGNUM Yeah, and he‘s white...

@@real_bork7858 I wonder if that's possible. Everyone got one in their pocket these days.. how different is it than an actual handheld camera?
How do Indian convince their parents.
"Mummy 30000 ke laptop pe padhai nai ho paegi. 70000 wala chahiye"😂😂😂😂
Exactly, American kids do it too as the older folks don't know that it doesn't matter for homework 😂
