How to Eat at Indian Roadside Restaurants for Foreigners (Dhaba Tour)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 вер 2020
- When you visit India, you can eat at cheap roadside restaurants safely! I'll show you exactly how to order at a traditional Indian Dhaba (roadside restaurant) and how to judge whether the food is clean and safe to eat.
The Worst Tourist Trap in India (Hotel Gangaur) • The WORST Tourist Trap...
Dhabas all along the motorways in India provide the tastiest and freshest Indian food. You get homemade food and good Indian hospitality for much cheaper than the Dhabas designed only for foreign tourists.
I always stop there to eat when I'm road trips. I usually order Aloo Paratha (stuffed bread with potato), Chole (chickpeas), and Masala Chai (Indian milk tea). That all costs about ₹280 or $4.
To find a Dhaba, just use Google Maps and check the reviews.

What's your favourite Dhaba? I've always had the best experiences in the smaller non-branded Dhabas - rather than the big brands like Mannat and all the ones at Murthal. My most memorable was in Chhattisgarh eating with Chintamani Jaipuri ua-cam.com/video/OaiRDgBC1fo/v-deo.html
Panjabi dhabhas are the best
I am not insulting but The Best part is When Foreigners pronounce Punjabi Dhaba as "Poonjabi Daba" 😀😂
Check out Mahadev Rajasthani Dhaba on Tumkur Road near Bangalore. It is the go to place for all Rajasthani truck drivers and is literally a road-side dhaba. The food here is really authentic and the hospitality is totally 'Rajasthani'. Feels like home! :) Would recommend to go with a Rajasthani friend. Location below:

I’ve never understood people who stand behind someone who is recording and just awkwardly stare...
I'm guessing because it's outside the norm, if you take pictures of food here in the U.S. or make a vlog about it, nobody would really stare at the cam but in India, Pakistan, Nepal, it's considered a bit odd, people will wonder why you're taking pics of food & making vids instead of eating it lol
Just a sign of backwardness...no hurt feelings.
@@holycrusader3130 it isn't backwardness or third world country routine. It basically stems from the culture of keeping a watch on neighborhood for their well being. Yes privacy is compromised and to be frank the importance of privacy is being felt off late here and not taken so seriously. Anyways it will take time to catch up with a population of 1.3 billion plus.
@@braveheart4388 let me agree to disagree
@@cutepanda2910 No offence taken and nice try, but I've never even set foot in the U.S.
Love the dhabas!
Having flown to India almost every year for the past 20 years, I usually head straight from the airport to a dhaba on the expressway between Mumbai and Pune and have a spicy wada pau and a masala chai, only then does it feel like I've arrived!
I would add a few more tips about dhabas:
- avoid meat and paneer unless sure that they are fresh. As many simpler places suffer from power cuts and their fridges cut out, these foods can go off quickly and make you regret having eaten them.
- for a take away the standard lingo seems to be "parcel"
- in my experience, if you are on a road trip and not 100% sure about the cleanliness of a dhaba you have pulled into, no-body is ever insulted or will not allow you if you ask to see the kitchen for yourself to get a better idea of their hygiene standards.
Dhaba Dhaba Doo!
Great tips Pavi!
He wrote an essay on it
Over 700,000,000 people in India don’t have access to a toilet. Even if they do have a ‘hole in the ground’ toilet they don’t use toilet paper. They simply pour a little water over their left fingers and then go back to work preparing your food. Extreme caution needs to be used in India!
Karl rock: India is a wonderful country
Also Karl Rock: How to avoid these in India

Hahahahaahaha !!!
Subject : One more tip that will help you be more local(flexible) and explore cheap adequate lunch.
Hey rock...
Ask for Veg-NonVeg Thali. It has fixed price(around ₹100), mostly fixed menu, less spicy, more healthier(as it is order by daily passengers).
This would come handy when you are travelling alone as you couldn't complete every dish everytime you make customized order.
'Thali' system brings sufficient edible on your plate and you can even make make small changes (like order salad, lassi, gravy, desert/sweet, extra chapati etc etc etc).
Disclaimer: Sometimes you can be scammed by poor quality edibles. So the trick is to ask the manager or staff to name the dishes that are most commonly ordered. Having lunch is one thing.. Digesting those is another.
Most welcome,
Another Indian.

The increasing number of na's he use at the end of every phrase say's how Indian he has become😆

White homemade butter is from Buffalo🐃. Cow’s 🐄 butters is yellow. Welcome 🙏🏻
Correct👍 bro
Homemade butter is white, including cow's milk.
@@rishabmazumdar5635 He is talking about clarified butter (ghee) and I have noticed the difference between then cow s ghee is yellow whereas buffalo ghee is white...
@@rishabmazumdar5635 whereas if talk about that Makhan that will remain white only whether it's of cow or buffalo
@@AdityaSingh-wq7vl RIshab is right. Cow butter can be white. Often the colour of butter will depend on the diet of the cow and the type of cow.
Carotene is the pigment responsible for giving butter its natural yellow colouration. If a cattle's diet consists of carotene-rich sources, you get something closer to store-bought varieties of butter. If not, white is the natural colour. This is why vegetable shortening or lard is often white as well. Margarine in its pure form is white but is dyed to emulate the more familiar appearance of butter (the dye is not known to be detrimental health, although the trans fats in margarine are).

I always have notes with me on basic phrases, hello, please, thank you, where is the bathroom etc for every country I go to but nine times out of ten I don’t need them because, even in the more local small eateries someone will understand what I need.
