Regarding the option to vote for a 3rd political party. The ruling Democrat and Republican
unified party have the machinery to make it impossible. What they fear most is abstención. Our message in the 60s-70s was "Vote on your feet. Vote on the street." When we vote we are playing their game and allowing them to claim we have democracy. I'm 81 and for this reason I have abstained all my life. Imagine what would happen in November if nobody voted.

I said this in 2016 when I was in Standing Rock - the government was using the Lakota peaceful protest as practice for what they were going to do to the U.S. general population. It was a sign of things to come and why I left the U.S. in 2017. It is an example of the boiling frog syndrome, slow incremental increase in militarized police force. The U.S. is now fully authoritarian and by the time people realize it they will be totally enslaved but thinking they are free people.

I really would like to believe those words. Sadly we here are a very small voice in the wilderness. Because l think, voting doesn’t change much, UNLESS EVERYONE IS FORCED TO VOTE. It may get people to actually THINK about corruption, evil doings etc., by governments instead of believing what they read in the right wing media. Sadly it appears to be the ONLY media. That includes the BBC.
It's all we have. The alternative is what we are witnessing on that campus.
I do understand your point of view and tend to feel the same because it seems to be impossible to enable enough people to really understand what is really happening, so they will probably continue to vote for the same two cheeks.

I think that when we start comparing the current student demonstrations with those in 1968 it is important to point out that it was a full 5 years later before the US administration pulled out of Vietnam and that was mainly because they were beaten, nothing to do with public protests.
As a young man I went on on anti-Vietnam war demonstrations in London myself. I also went on CND demonstrations and they have had no effect at all.
I am completely in support of these ant-genocide demonstrators but they will have to be very brave and very patient to do this sort of thing in the always violent culture of the USA.
If you look at the comments on the "normal" news channels in the USA on these protests, they are filled with often violent messages against these students. Totally different to the comments here. Welcome to the USA "" Home of the Brave, Land of the Free".

These protests also put a spotlight on how universities are funded. Especially when those funding interests are being threatened. I believe the government has a duty to the education of its population and should fund it accordingly. No corporations should have any connection with universities unless research is involved. For which all should share in the results and compensation to that company be forth coming.
