The whole world of football does not revolve around Manchester United. I am a Manchester United fan but I am a football fan first. Carrick was a very good player but he was not the best at his position, Alonso was better in English league. Busquet was another one that was better than him.
The English fans don’t understand intelligent footballers. They prefer people who charge about like headless chickens because it’s easier for them to see and understand.
I’m a West Ham fan and saw him play as a youngster. He ran the show, never gave the ball away and settled the team. The best stat about Carrick at United was the difference in win % when he played vs when he didn’t. He made every team he played with better. A great player and wasted at international level, where the game suited his style much more than the premier league
Gerrard and Lombard were both great players but never jelled together in the England side and no England manager had the nerve to drop one of them, hence Carrick's lack of opportunity and perhaps Englands inability to succeed in that period (still not succeeding!).
I would say dude even when he was slowly starting to pass it literally made our midfields of Anderson/Cleverley or Pogba,Herrera/Fellaini looked so much better than they actually are.
@@jackdubberley63 different type of player. Fletcher was a ball winner, had the energy to press and was a great passer of the ball. He could score too. A midfield trio of Carrick, Scholes and Fletcher really was something special in big games. I remember he had a spell between late in the 06-07 season to 08-09 (prior to his condition hurting his career) where always in the first team and was a big game player. Missing out in the 08 CL Final really drove him on. He elevated his game. He was cruelly sent off in the 09 CL Semi Final. Shame. His career never hit the heights it should have done.
Carrick and Fletcher were the players I respected most of Man United who I absolutely despised (and still do tbf) they both did the unheralded jobs and the dirty work and didn't get enough credit for it. I make the argument sometimes that if United had Fletcher for the 2009 CL, they would've won, they dominated early on in that game but eventually lost control after Barca's first goal and that probably doesn't happen with Fletcher enforcing with Carrick alongside him, they bullied my team (Arsenal) in the semi-finals

Very, very under appreciated. His precision, dictating the tempo. Always humble and a very hard worker. Happy that he’s still in the United staff helping out the team.
He was a metronome. Excellent player. Phenomenal reading of the game. I remember Man U fans who didn't rate him. As for England caps? I bet the Italians, Spanish or Germans would have been checking for distant family relations.
Today will be the first time in 15 years we take the field without him. Absolute legend of a player. He understood and impressed himself on the game in a way that is difficult to describe to incredibly easy to see. The last great regista!
It took me a while to truly understand the little things he did (like pressing a space) that led to him or his teammate winning the ball back. It's the latter that would most often be overlooked. It's easy to look at flashy players who score goals or make assists. Who doesn't love that. Carrick was a type of player that when I understood what he did, he made me appreciate football more, if that makes sense.
Wow I got a like and a response 😭. Since since we’re here may as well I shoot. Could you cover Jamaica’s maiden voyage to the 98 World Cup as well as the players that are of Jamaican heritage that now represents England please 🥺
Stumbled onto this video and it was a big test if I would like the channel moving forward. Carrick was one of my favorite United players as he wasn't a physical specimen or have heaps of pace but he saw the game in such a way that he was able to be super-efficient as you showed. Always loved the vision he had on the field.
Michael Carrick what can I say just a legend one of the best midfielders in the world love by all Manchester United fans should have got more England caps and always remember one Michael Carrick every team like to have him
When I was younger I didn't understand how good he was; as you mentioned you just notice the flashy players. But as a midfielder now who's learned (and still learning) the game, I really appreciate how good him and his passing were.
So much love for this man, a player I loved watching right from the start of his United career. It's a shame England didn't use him when they clearly needed balance in their line up during his United days. Their loss was our gain and United fans know how good he was and his importance to the trophies we won with him. Great video detailing his genius, succinct with bang on analysis. Frustrates me how people can't appreciate what players do in these number 6 roles. His all-round ability is something that we lack now, I am going to miss watching this man play and my only regret is not being able to see him play at Old Trafford ❤
He was a wonderful player. Watching him live each week was the best way to see just how good he was. And then look at the difference when he didn't play.
finally, someone is trying to rate carrick. He will always be my fav deep lying midfielder PS: Just subscribed to this channel cuz its underrated like carrick
As a Spurs supporter, I was so sorry to see him go, but i love the fact that he did what he did for United; much underrated player for club and for country!
Indeed Carrick was special and a top class player especially when you see all his complete passes and diagonal crosses on the pitch with high mentality and vision with or without the ball all the time.
What a gem….im so fortunate and thankful i got to witness him in that team at united….his denial of passing lanes and awareness defensively cant be measured…like the great Maldini said “if i have to make a tackle ive already made a mistake” A Footballer with that brain and ability, why do england always take that for granted…dudes a genius
Yes he was unappreciated outside United but I couldn't care about that he was my favourite player for united from when we signed him to when he retired.
Absolutely underrated, players like him and Busquets don’t get the credit they deserve, they play with their minds not with physicality, pace and aggression which makes most football fans not rating them like the other hard tackling midfielders except for their clubs fans who know how good they are
I've always maintained that you could replace Busquets with Carras in those peak Barca teams and they would've done just as good if not better. A truly underappreciated player. Dude won a PL with Cleverly as his main partner for most of the season. Let that sink in.
Really like this strand. Carrick was always sheer class but not really acknowledged as such by 'the pundits'. His pass selection and execution was a thing of football beauty
True Utd fans know how important and amazing player Carrick was. he was literally the spine of Man Utd midfield, defence and attacking play. He was also the missing piece of the puzzle for England, but was overlooked because England Managers were obsessed with Gerrard and Lampard even though that didn't work - Carrick would have bought balance with Gerrard or Lampard driving forward (with one on the bench). Or, Lampard and Carrick in central midfield with Gerrard playing left wing (same could have been said and play Scholes with Lampard in central and Gerrard Left wing, not Scholes!)..
I love this video. Your content and the way you've presented it is fantastic. But most of all, thank you for putting some respect on the name of one of my favourite and without question the most underrated english midfielder in history.
I can say that at least manchester united fans appreciated carrick. I always thought of him as the guy that wasn't "special" talent wise but you could be assured that he will lock down your half so you can freely attack on the other. I was in grade school around the time carrick was playing but even then I was able to appreciate the way he played. He completely contrasted the intensity/physicality the league had at the time with his smoothness on the ball
When Carrick first signed for United from Spurs I didn't rate him, when he left I wondered how we would ever replace him. Carrick is probably the most underrated United player of the last 20 years.
@@thegreatone24 Sadly it was the English mentality of having players who looked to be more energetic, which Carrick wasn't. Carrick would've made the team SO much better.
dude the fact that scholes was played on the left wing to accommodate them two should be ample reason as to why a player like carrick was always overlooked for england.
The only stat that favors Carrick is the only one that truly matters. United's win % with and without him shows just how important he truly was. He made United better every time he's on the pitch.
Just one thing: to be a deep-lying mid in the fastest pace league itself is an achievement, and to be a good one for the best team? He's exactly what every team needs.
This present ManU team is not Ralf Rangnick's team, it is Ole and Michael Carrick's team.Ralf had the answer to ManU's immidiate problem. But he is now floundering and the team is now losing steam.Players are deciding to leave.Ralf does not have any trophy winning vision for this team. But Ole and Carrick had, just that Ole made some bad missteps. However Carrick started to carry the team there.BRING HIM BACK! GIVE HIM AND THIS TEAM A CHANCE TO GO FOR THE PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE THIS YEAR.ManU has a wonderful team that needs someone to engineer them to victory.Carrick might be that man. What do we have to lose?
An absolute Rolls Royce player. Only those who have played at a decent level understand what a class act he was. No fuss or frills just excellent passing vision and reading of the game. Top top player.
Loved Carrick his ball keeping and passing was simple but worked he was a very very good player England didn't use him well if Guardiola had him now he would have loved him
One thing this video didn't mention was that Carrick was signed at the same time as Owen Hargreaves. I always assumed that Fergie meant them to play together with Hargreaves being the hardworking, aggressive, ball winner and Carrick being there to provide vision and passing ability. Sadly Hargreaves injury problems meant this never really happened, but it's interesting to wonder whether Carrick's role would have been slightly different if this had panned out.
This was a very very good video, as a United fan i always wanted to know how good carrick actually was, he always gets mentioned by United fans but never by Rivals or Premier League officials.
my favorite united player, i watch united since 2007 but started watching it almost every week in 2009 and when carrick play, he always give stability in man united midfield that's why this guy is my favorite player
Carrick was ahead of his time playing in England. At that time, he would get into most big European clubs in my opinion as they had more fluid formations and knew how to employ the Regista in their squads whilst England were stuck with flat 4-4-2 formations which translated into the national team. He may have got some more recognition if he were a free kick taker/penalty taker. I'd love to see a video like this to Frank Lampard. I always felt that Lampard offered less to the balance of the national team at that time compared to Carrick.
His passing, reading of the game and ability to make interceptions, vision and balance were all elite. Add to that, he was pretty strong, not a bad tackler, had a good touch and scored the occasional screamer. Great player. The epitome of a deep-lying playmaker. Absolute metronome. No English CM of that Era dictated tempo like he did. Not Gerrard, Not Lampard, maybe not even Scholes.
Watching this now as Ten Hag just completed his first season, and a Carrick is what we are so sorely missing in the midfield. Easily one of the best PL midfielders of all time who doesn't get mentioned as such nearly enough.
To be honest, when he was in his pomp, I was too young to understand the more complex aspect of the game. I didn't rate him at all. It's only now I realise what a player he was
I never appreciated him until the twilight of his career, midfield is probably the most difficult position on the field to play, the game can just pass you by. Now I know that i was wrong. Michael Carrick was an incredible player.
Carrick had an ability uncommon in British players, he understood the tempo of the game and this combined with his good vision and pure clean striking of the ball meant he could find a safe pass or a penetrative killer ball at the right moment. Unlucky he came prominence amongst a so called "golden generation" of English midfielders and a preference for shoehorning star players into the first eleven by England managers at the time.

He was absolutely underrated. He was a master in his role.
Jamaican here. I love your channel. Keep dropping them gems.
Thanks, brother. Will do!
Absolutely one of my favorite ManUnited players, a wonderful player with a game understanding of genius.
Michael Carrick what can I say just a legend one of the best midfielders in the world love by all Manchester United fans should have got more England caps and always remember one Michael Carrick every team like to have him
Carrick was a class act.
A genuine CDM. Line breaking Pass master
Idolized him growing up in India. Wore the number 16 jersey all my life because I loved what he did on the pitch and played in the middle.
Those who understand footbal knows Carrick was a gem❤️. Loves how he controlled the tempo of the game. Clearly a player that needs to be in the team.
When I was younger I didn't understand how good he was; as you mentioned you just notice the flashy players. But as a midfielder now who's learned (and still learning) the game, I really appreciate how good him and his passing were.
- “I think Michael's the best central midfielder in English football. I think he's the best English player in the game.” Sir Alex Ferguson.
My friends in middle school called me Carrick because I was able to pull pretty good long passes back then
He was a wonderful player. Watching him live each week was the best way to see just how good he was. And then look at the difference when he didn't play.
finally, someone is trying to rate carrick.
He will always be my fav deep lying midfielder
PS: Just subscribed to this channel cuz its underrated like carrick
As a Spurs supporter, I was so sorry to see him go, but i love the fact that he did what he did for United; much underrated player for club and for country!
His passing is the thing that is most underrated about him, Its actually incredible.
Indeed Carrick was special and a top class player especially when you see all his complete passes and diagonal crosses on the pitch with high mentality and vision with or without the ball all the time.
Remember when he outpaced Aguerö once?
In a midfield two 😢🙌🏿
Really like this strand.
" I put Carrick first, then I built the whole team around him "
Me
Carrick is having an excellent time at the boro. I reckon he will be very successful throughout his managerial career....up the boro...
Carrick was the key to playin Lampard and Gerrard together. Genius!!!
and they picked gareth barry ffs.
@@tris421 I still don't understand that to this day. . Michael Carrick was better in every category
@@thegreatone24 So true. I think Barry must have had some dirty pics of Sven & Ulrika Jonsson to keep getting picked Lmao.
A wonderful player in his prime and exactly the type of midfielder that united have been missing since his retirement
375 views? the view itself says it all he's underrated
42k views now 😋
I listen to this channel as background noise sometimes when I get super high and 5:20 fried mt brain a bit
Now Ward prowse is another underrated midfielder for this era.
An absolute Rolls Royce player. Only those who have played at a decent level understand what a class act he was. No fuss or frills just excellent passing vision and reading of the game. Top top player.
Loved Carrick his ball keeping and passing was simple but worked he was a very very good player England didn't use him well if Guardiola had him now he would have loved him
When West Ham went down I was shocked at the time United did not go in for him at the time.
Good point!
No carrick joined way earlier than Owen.
Appreciation to bring Carrick for a video. Indeed, an underrated midfield maestro...
We(Man utd fans) will always appreciate him
This was a very very good video, as a United fan i always wanted to know how good carrick actually was, he always gets mentioned by United fans but never by Rivals or Premier League officials.
keep up the good work man! love the videos ❤️
Will do! Cheers!
my favorite united player, i watch united since 2007 but started watching it almost every week in 2009 and when carrick play, he always give stability in man united midfield that's why this guy is my favorite player
We at Manchester United knows that he’s one of our own… our Legend ❤️
Congratulations on 10k,you’ve deserved it !👏keep the great vids coming
Thanks! Really appreciate it all. Very keen to keep making more videos!
Ye him n pythagoras in boots are better than nouman imo
Sooo underrated
That passing accuracy stat is insane. Carrick is definitely world class Miss watching him play
You're so good man, the music, the voice, the content explanation is top notch 🔥
I’ll never forgive Capello for not playing him in 2010 WC. Carrick one of the best CM to do it
Carrick was ahead of his time playing in England.
Yes he was a straight up baller
Agreed with basically everything except the Scholes one. No player dictated play like Scholes
I still have arguments about this guy to this day.
A rolls Royce in an era of the rover 200
Man that was an awesome video bro!!!! Love it. Love how you broke things down. So insightful. ⚽️👊🏽🙏🏽
Farewell Carrick👋,forever united legend👏!!!
Watching this now as Ten Hag just completed his first season, and a Carrick is what we are so sorely missing in the midfield. Easily one of the best PL midfielders of all time who doesn't get mentioned as such nearly enough.
The one player that United actually missed. The missing key to another great era.
Football Iconic, an underappreciated channel.
Also a video on Jaap Stam would be awesome
Who is here after Carrick's caretaker appointment lol.... Get on Legend! All the Best and Forever greatful! United Fan!
