PD Simplified | Quickshifters and Auto-blippers

- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- Riding aids like quickshifters and auto-blippers have trickled down from MotoGP to everyday road-going motorcycles. Concepts like clutchless gear shifts and rev-matching have existed for a long time but can take quite a while to master. However, the advent of bi-directional quickshifters has made it a whole lot easier for everyone. In this Simplified episode, Shumi explains how these systems work and if you really need them

Does having an auto blipper reduce the effects of engine braking? Additionally, would a slipper clutch be better for road going bikes in this instance(quickshifter + slipper clutch)?
Today I understood, how it feels to be that genius kid, who already studied next chapter, before teacher explains. (Rev matching)😂😂😂
Absolutely easy to understand now, thanks team, pls also make a video on rev matching 🙏
@@TheGiantSquid not necessarily in both instances. Slipper clutches will reduce clutch lever effort - primary advantage in normal riding. Engine braking can be smoothened/lowered by autoblippers. But most bikes that get these also get engine brake control that intervenes to reduce engine braking anyway
Eagerly waiting for a session from shumi regarding rev matching...
I just love the way he so simple explains everything in detail...
Eagerly waiting for the rev matching video. Shumi sir never fails to educate us 😀
Aye, we'll ask Shumi to make that too!
Yes please!
+1✅
@@powerdriftofficial please do a video on Rev Matching sir, Do not justify by saying that most us are riding around 150-200 cc bikes so we won’t need it.
@@kishore1261 Bro rev matching is a good habit no matter the bikes capacity, it's good for the bike if done correctly and also improves safety quotient along with FE while engine braking than being on the clutch
Requested for this video a week back, and already it's here. So much commitment !! Thank you Shumi 😍
Ahahahaha! We listen!
We'd LOVE to have a skill based Simplified series where Shumi teaches us riding skills - THAT'D BE RAD!!!!🥸
Yup something like Twist of the Wrist 🔥
Then what will he teach in riding school. Everything can't happen online
@@tejaspadhye There's a difference in theory and practical learning. It would be fun to watch a series of that kind.
@@tejaspadhye oh totally can. But the improvement you’ll see is bit not great for most of us.
Sus💥
Hey shumi, I'm a 19 and I'm learning to ride motorcycle, wanna tell you that your simplified episodes gave a lot of knowledge and I'm keen to watch more skilled based simplified episodes......Lots of love from Moradabad U.P.❤️
More skill based simplified, a grand yes please. Dr Schumi (PhD in Auto)
Thank you! Can do!
@@shu_mar where can i find it sir
0:24 nice editing and also noticed how Mr Shumis appearance has changed alot, hats off to power drift for making such videos they really make everything simplified!
LMAO did I see rice and Manchurian at 0:23? Anyway, Prof Shumi always has my extra bit of attention 💙
Opening youtube and seeing a new upload by PD, just takes the energy to next level
A much awaited video! Thank you PD and Shumi! ❤
Hope you enjoyed it!
Hiiii PowerDrift........ Appreciate your efforts!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Supratim!
Rev Match and Engine Braking is something you guys definitely need to cover. It's a concept that's still foreign to a lot of Indian Riders. It was to me too a while ago. These videos are great way of learning things like these.
Can do!
I always look forward to PD simplified for complicated auto concepts, kudos Shumi🙌
Thank you!
This explanation is so crisp. I mean if we have these techs in our bikes well and good but its better to have the skills, moreover if we are not on the track (low performance mode) we actually dont need neither of them.
But yes, good to have both makes life easier.
Dear shumi, please make more of skill based Simplifieds. The skill based series can be a good starter course for beginners and can be positioned as a precursor to the TWO beginner course for the more committed and enthusiast riders out there!!
Can do!
Recently had decided to upgrade to a healtech quickshifter on my Z800, just a couple of days back I dropped the idea thinking of the same points mentioned here.. Very good explanation though.. Thank you
Cheers! 😁
@@shu_mar cheers mate..also please make a informational video on hydraulic clutch and slipper clutch, pros and cons👍
I have a quick shifter and auto blipper and I think they are amazing pieces of kit.
They transform my ride, and I think help me ride a lot safer👍🏽
Always a great start to the day after watching this very insightful session!! Can't wait for me!! Absolutely love you guys!! 😍❤️
Aye thanks Varun! We love you too!
@@powerdriftofficial Great chance to pull your leg, It was Tarun, it is universal that we love Varun (Painter) too...
Nice to hear that 👍👍👍 not everyone is a pro rider on track to use these things… most of us are passionate riders on regular roads & enjoy our gear shifting !!! So end of the day man and machine happy roads !!👍👍
Shumi has made these explanations so easy in these series.
@shumar you can conduct sessions like "how to convince clients and make them understand tech". 😜
Definitely skill based simplified needed from PD
Thanks SN! Can do!
Technology has max. comfort to offer! BUT those Rev matching with Engine band sound gear Changes are priceless 👌
Rev matching when changing down gears is done right with an awesome exhaust system sounds sweet!!!!!
It would be absolutely amazing, if Shumi teaches us how to achieve perfection in rev matching & downshifting without causing an harm toh the clutch assembly & gear box. No doubt, India's best automotive content is right here #PDarmy
The series has to be renamed as Shumified.... Perfect synonym to Simplified...
🤣

Should you be learning to blip, rev match, and downshift on your own
Yes yes thousand times yes
eagerly waiting for the video Shumi sir
Love from kolkata shumi brother ♥️♥️
Can't tell you how much I love you guys for your quality of content.🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love the PD Simplified series
That was well explained, as usual.. we'd love to know more about rev-matching while down shifting, shumi plz take us through this next time 🙏👍
Can do! Thank you!
Learn downshifting clutchless it's really fun! I don't recommend doing it regularly but it's enjoyable when done right!
It's raining awesome content on powerdrift 😁🤩🤩
Awesome! Thank you!
I would like to say one thing! This is Processor Sumi ❣️❣️Living Legend❤️
Yes we want skill based simplified by shumi 💜

More riding skills and essentials simplified please
Yes! That's a nice idea!
Very comprehensive, thanks Shumi!
Waah waah saab.. little complex than other in simplipd series... But , really imformative.. to break that tabo around quick shifters..
Happy to hear that Sasi! More on its way!
This series needs more love

Sir you always clear all of the concepts
Shumi loves to help us! :D
Shumi sir is awesome
And as a mechanical student it helps a lot
I mean I even use these concepts in my studies

We would love to watch a episode on rev-matching and which is the best rpm to upshift and downshift the motorcycle according to each bike... And is it really needed in classic bikes.
Thank you @powerdrift & shumi sir. Waiting for rev matching video ☺️🙌🏾
Soon enough Krishna!
I'm sure the skill based videos will be a great help. Resources like these are much needed . thank you PD
Powerdrift rocks! Much needed rider info 😊
Love the SimplifiPD series!
Yay! And we love you! More coming up.

Strain gauges is a wonderful Transducer.
Ive seen soo many applications where you least expect them lol.
Kindly do a simplified episode on blipping/rev-matching and downshifting as early as possible 😊 Can't wait for too long.......
Of course a big yes for skill based simplified. Also, can we have a simplified on traction control?!
Can. be done!

No. You are the MVP!
Thank you! Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication!
Hi sir..Appreciate your mechaical engineering strength..I leart it because you are the master, the expert professor of IIT KGP love you sir
Glad to see RJ featured in PD…..
Quick shifter helps us a lot and
It removes us from the stress of using clutch 👍👍
Nice content 👍👍😊
Glad you liked it Bhagya! Do hit that Like button, let us know what more you'd like us to make.
Sorry if it sounds stupid, when you’re using a quick shifter do we need to drop the throttle?
@@ashish_amonkar no need to down the throttle when using quickshifter, it cuts engine power supply automatically.
Yes we want these type of knowledgeable content 👍
Fantastic series shumi.. keep it up
Thanks Keshav!
Hello PD team, Simpfied series is fantastic and its amazing how simply Shumi breaks down nitty-gritties of advanced motorcycling concepts for everyone to understand. I have request for you guys, it will be great if you can do videos on suspension adjustment and its implications on riding and types of adjustable suspensions.
A video on chains and sprocket would be great.
Thank you Shumi 🙌 I couldn't find a much simplified explanation to this topic. I always wonder what the boys who own / ride the ZX10r mean when they said the auto blipper is fantastic on it.
Shumi I would like to know about rev matching gear shifts and while driving what it means "heel-toe"
Thank you ✌️
Coming soon!
@@shu_mar thank you sir
Great content as usual pd and Shumi !!
...but why isn't anyone talking about the tasty looking dish at 0:23 ? 💀

Loved this video !!! Thank you PD and shumi da
Thanks Daksh!
We want more of these... Knowledge GOLD
Really useful series 👏👏
Would be great if you'll showed how to shift up clutchless with the video on rev matching.
So waiting for the next video
Can do!
@@shu_mar Looking forward to it
Thank you😊
Saturday's with shumi
The best !
It makes me wonder as to how advanced.. machines like Hero Honda Street and TVS Jive were... They flaunted quick shifter and auto bilpper in silence.. even before we knew it...👏👏👏
❤️❤️❤️ PowerDrift
💖💖💖💖
Looking forward for for rev matching skill
There is a very common understanding that front brakes are dangerous. So much that people dont use in the dry weather let alone in the wet. Would be good to let people know the importance of front brakes through a small introduction on how to use front brakes.
Eagerly waiting for the skill based videos
Skill based Simplifieds will be very useful 💯 very much looking forward to it😊
😁 I subcribed this channel only for Shumi🔥❤️
Love these episodes, please do one on rev matching too
Thanks 👍
Hey PD! could you bring an episode of powerdrift podcast talking about riding posture? Overall. In different kinds of motorcycles for different distances by people of different frames/builds. It's very crucial to know. And it's hard to find this information all together. And what else can be better than Prof. Shumi at it?
Cheers
A skill based simplified would be a amazing thing !
The answer i was looking for a week. You're awesome Shumi. I want to install quick shifter on my CONTI GT650 ,is it a good or bad Idea? & If i can which 1 should i go for?
I dont know if getting answered but here I'm leaving a comment 🙂
There are quite a few good aftermarket quickshifter options out there, and of varying costs. Do check which one suits your budget, and check out the motoring forums for what people are saying about it.
What for?
@@shu_mar The sound of a 4 cylinder with QS, Goosebumps definitely. Hey Shumi it may sound stupid but I don’t know if 2 cyl 270 deg crank with QS can do the same but I would like to give it a try.
If you ask me its useless for that 650
@@vivekkatara1960 go hunt down one on YT and decide
Bless us with more skillz for the roadz, the almighty of tarmac!!!
Splendor guys in my town have been using clutchless shifts without quickshifter and auto-blipper!

Amazing series by PD. Maybe another one where you also help with basic motorcycle maintenance and part changes! :)
A BIG YES. Yes. We need more skill based "Simplifieds"
Hey Shumi.. waiting for a video on suspension set up. Thanks
I asked this question once to my teacher in the lecture, he told me I'll tell you later and it's since year passed ahead 😏😏,not answered yet....
Shumi sir :- har samasya ka nivaran he mere pass, that's what i trusted ❤️❤️ ,i guess i should leave that boring lecture and attain all the lecture's of SHUMI SIR ❤️😎
Good advice it should also be mention that auto blipper can only be implemented using ride by wire technology.
This was absolutely amazing after riding for more than a decade and I never heard of a Autoblipper thanks PD amazing stuf #shumiyouarethebest
Can surely use more skill based Simplifieds :) good job Shumi..love your episodes!
Hey PD, your videos are amazing to watch. It would be great to have an episode on "blip, rev match and downshift combination".
Would really love a video on blip shifting.
Is shumi reading my mind?😂 I just searched for this question on UA-cam!!
Hahaha!
Thank you for the very informative series.
Please do an episode on rev-matching.
Daaaaaamn. You're really good at this. So riddle me this, mine behaves like this, and I've read other's do too: If it needs that loss in power to decouple, why does it work best when you're mobbin on it? Why's it need that hot and cold to it? Seems backwards, you get what I mean by that? Should be easier when you're taking it easy, not the more you beat it's ass, the better it works. On mine anyway, it doesn't really appreciate being used - in either direction - at minimal / cruising throttle position. Very clunky. But banging thru the gears up the on ramp or coming in hot, it works like a charm.
Also, any reason why, say 3rd to 4th is smoother than 2nd to 3rd for example? Is it related to the first question? Seems like the higher up the gearbox I go, the smoother they are.
Good videos, sir. I've been browsing. You earned this sub like a son of a gun.
Yes please! More skill based simplified with your quick pace of speech! Wanna upgrade our riding standards. #pdarmy
Can we get a similar video on "ride-by-wires"
I use it on my duke 390 and it works pretty well …
Can you please do one on Compression, rebound and damping?
Can do!
