I absolutely love this car, it's the most beautiful EV on the market. It does however deserve a bigger battery to ensure a decent range. As for now, it's a brilliant commuter. Longer trips require time and infrastructure. Great film, thanx!
@@MarkGaudie Hopefully so. But if they don't change the motor or battery, how are they going to achieve longer range? I'm afraid that they might sacrifice the acceleration, whuch even now is acceptable only in the sport mode. Now the real life, partly motorway out of the city range is about 200 km. In winter drops even more.
About one year now we have the brother of this car, the Peugeot e2008 and like this eC4 the looks are the best and only decent thing about these cars. The range is far from optimal and drops rapidly if conditions are a bit off and you like to drive a ‘normal’ speed. The greatest shock I had was not to long ago, a 100 miles trip, 6 degrees Celsius, headwinds at about 74 mph did cost 41,3 kWh. That is almost the whole capacity of the battery. Only in normal conditions (like summer) the 150 mile range (and driving with a pillow under your right foot) can be achievable. Nice review! I like the direct- and swiftness you put in your contributions. Cheers! ✌️
You'll notice the affects of wind etc far more in an EV than an ICE car as more of your expended energy is used to drive the vehicle forward and not wasted as heat. Resistance increases exponentially in cars so slowing from your speeding velocity of 74mph to 65mph will have a significant impact in increasing your range. It may be slower but can also be faster if you don't have to stop to charge up.
@@stevecade857 I totally agree! In this particular case I knew I would find a charger available on arrival and that I would stay there long enough to fully charge the car again. Usually I tend to drive a more conservative speed 😉
A decent design, love the angular approach to the front lights, not so sure about the scalloped out bit behind the front wheels though. It’s good that Citroen have moved away from the hunt for 0-60 times in new ev’s. Comfort is something you want every day and will never get bored of.
You guys got this with the subscribers. You guys are so fun I have no doubt you guys still get there in no time at all, you guys are much better than decent
I am 6 2" and I find the back of the e-c4 extremely comfortable. That car is fantastic! I've tried the new Hyundais and Kias. Comfort, finish and design of the interior of the Citroen is so much better.
Citroen haven't fixed their biggest problem, the biggest problem is the relatively small battery. In 2021 a 50Kw/h battery simply doesn't cut the mustard especially with the UK's poor charging network.
@Nicolas MIARD yes, they should have waited for the new platform but they use they use the small platform meant for smaller cars. Hope they reuse that new platform in this in the future to give it more range. Its the only thing that's a letdown.
Mind that 50 kwh keeps the car lighter, therefore lower power consumption. Also, the car takes happily up to 100kw in charging (I've had 97 in real conditions up to around 50% then it drops to 76/77 depending on temp) so if you have the charging infraestructure, you would stop around every two hours on a trip on the highway which is quite acceptable. I've been averaging around 15 kwh/100 kms travelling at 110/155 kph in Eco Mode, so theoretically that would allow me to stop every 220-250 kms on a longer trip.
Unfortunately the price is no longer Decent as the Gov grant is £32000 or less for £1500 grant now. Will be interesting to see if prices are cut to qualify for this now. I imagine a lot of panic setting in for car manufacturers like MG who just released prices for new EVs in line with the old £34000 limit and £2500 discount. Maybe worth doing a report on in future?
It has problems with de misting the widow after 10 mins still the same. when you put the rear double seat down, getting it back up is very hard as the rear seatbelt gets very tight meaning it won’t go up. So what you need to do is put the seat down again release the seatbelt slowly then raise the seat up again. 3 pin plug is ideal for me
So is there an updated review of this car with the updates promised? I looked at this car in a dealers last week and they were saying 180 miles on a full charge.
I like your review. I have the EV4, just 2 months old. It’s a beauty and I love it. I’m a steady driver, don’t go for speed or do long distances. It so comfortable and perfect for me. My previous car, for 3 years, was an EV-MG. It was also beautiful and a dream drive but still a nightmare. The electrics were never right and it constantly made loud annoying beeps. I was very happy to replace it with this gorgeous vehicle. My advice is avoid EV-MG.
Please tell me when those battery changes happen ... Please .... I'm test driving one this week and I want to be able to say "I've don't me research and stellantis are updating things to do with battery range so I'm going to wait till after those updates"
Looks as if it has a decent interior, with actual knobs, thumbs up from me. Unfortunately the price to range lets it down, not great value for money in this case
It’s a shame auto makers are still trying to utilize ICE platforms for electric vehicles. While the utility for the auto maker is obvious, the electric car result is suboptimal. We need to see a shift to dedicated electric platforms to get DECENT results that provide all the benefits an e vehicle has to offer.
The platform is multienergy, it means they new that is was going to be electric from the beginning. It's not the same as taking a platform that was ICE from the start and merely stuck a battery within, but it's not the same as a pure EV platform either. It's a compromise, still they are good cars and fill a much needed market gap: small and compact cars.
Around 160 mile range and more for local journeys this seems fine for me as long as we get decent improvements to fast charging at most motorway services then the fast charging will be Ok for those trips when I make them . Until battery technology changes all we are seeing is ever heavier and expensive cars being introduced that most of us can't afford. Good infrastructure would deal with range anxiety.
Due to the drop in the government grant. Citroen could do with giving the price tag a Decent hair cut. Hopefully the arival of cars from ORA will set the cat amongst the EV's in 2022. By the end of 2022. It's not long since this type of family car was £16k not over £30k.
From the outside this car looks amazing, not bad for a first generation attempt on this model. I think this would be a good car for someone like my parents to purchase, has the classic hydraulic citron suspension. I remember by parents owning a Citroen CX, that thing had the softest suspension and because they actually used proper aerodynamics it could fly along the motorway fully laden. It’s a shame that it’s so expensive and that the range is so limited(probably 150 real world - and for that range it puts you into the run a round and why you would need a vehicle that big to commute around I do not know!), looks like all they did was just pull the internal combustion engine out and fit an electric engine. They should’ve started from the ground up getting rid of all legacy ICE hardware.
They just put the same platform as the Vauxhall and Peugeot electric versión of the Corsa and 208, and same battery as them for a larger car. The result os visible, lower range than the prior two. Excellent car though!

Don't care about styling. I buy a car to drive not to look at. The view from the windscreen is very much similar from any car. Price, practicality and economy are the most important to me. Oh and range in an electric car
You never get something for nothing. Changing the final drive ratio to increase range will increase the 0-60 mph time and make the car feel less zippy. Changing the heat pump settings to be more efficient will probably make it less effective as well. Pretty sure those changes are coming to the other car built from the same platform.
This car really needs a bigger battery, the present battery doesn't make sense. The problem with Stellantis is that the 50 kWh battery choice is based on France's government grants which is the highest for capacities up to 50 kWh. I recently met a chap at a rapid charger driving one of these machines, It looked fantastic and had almost perfect paint and panel gaps. I was delighted as the Citroen driver waxed lyrical about the styling, technology and comfort, unfortunately, when it came to charging speed and range that’s where he had to acknowledge the elephant in the room; Range, or more to the point, the lack of it. The Citroen clearly is a great car and if it’s range capacity suits your use case, then this will be a cracking buy, however, most fundamentally important element of any EV to many drivers is it’s RANGE. Its on this metric the Citroen falls far far behind the market leaders. I applaud the acknowledged efforts with optimisation of drive train & software updates and look forward to the day when this car boasts a 350 mile range.
Why would anyone - at least in the UK - need a family car with 350 miles of range? The last recorded average UK journey speed was 59mph - that was way back in 2016 and, considering just how much more congested the UK road network is now, that number can ONLY be smaller in 2022. So, even based on that average speed, 350 miles would take about 6 hours non-stop driving...? I don't know anyone who would comfortably drive more than, say 3 hours before taking a comfort / coffee break - in fact, the Highway Code recommends stopping after only 2 hours. However, I think the 'sweet-spot' for a family EV is having a snow-or-sunshine range of 200 miles (so a WLTP of about 250ish), which is about 3 hours' driving - but have at least a 100kW charging speed, so it can get back up to 80-90% charge in 30 minutes or so... just the right amount of time for everyone to stretch their legs... go for a pee... grab a coffee and a bite to eat... then get back to the car to drive off again. 👍
@@jonathantaylor1998 The current Tesla Model 3 long range has a WLTP (would like to pretend) range of 360 miles, owners, at this time of year may expect 250-275 miles between charges given cold soaked battery packs and winter driving conditions in the real world: eg. 70 mph on motorway. Yes, everyone needs a comfort break, but the lack of widespread reliable charging infrastructure makes living life with electric vehicles with very low ranges very difficult indeed. A WLTP of 280 miles range would be the least I would consider acceptable for normal family use. Travelling sales reps, Mini cab drivers and longer distance commuters will seek greater ranges. Why not try a test drive in the Citroen, it’s very comfortable?
Need of range really depends of your driving profile and of course charging network. For me 350km WLTP range is enough. My daily commute is 37km and in summer time other trips usually under 100km roundtrip. Maybe once or twice a year i need to travel over 200km one way so i can make these trips with one full charging session or even with short top up. Longer range comes with penalty in added weight and poorer efficiency not to mention higher price. If you don't really need all that range frequently you are basically dragging dead weight with your car. Even i think 45kWh is bit short. Maybe 10kWh bigger battery would be ideal but then we are looking at around 3000€ higher price also. Personally i'm fine with 45KWh and it is not a deal breaker.
I absolutely love this car, it's the most beautiful EV on the market. It does however deserve a bigger battery to ensure a decent range. As for now, it's a brilliant commuter. Longer trips require time and infrastructure. Great film, thanx!
