Five years later....thanks for the video! I had to replace the fuel filter in our 2008 F150 and I used this video to help me out. I bought the Lisle kit and it worked like a charm. Your pointers regarding the inlet safety catch and the outlet metal clip would have been a lot of fun to try and figure out without the video. I ended up using the Wix 33243 filter, which is the same as the Motorcraft FG-1083 because my F150 has the larger diameter fuel lines. Once again, thanks!
i watched this video and a few others and was able to change my fuel filter -- thank you guys. i'm a girl without much muscle and no mechanic training and i was able to do this, so i want to encourage other women to give it a try and save some money. i thought changing the fuel filter was much easier than changing the oil filter on my 2005 f-150 FX4 (certainly faster & easier to access). i used the FG-1114 motorcraft filter. i didn't have to bleed the fuel line, i just let my truck sit until the engine was cold and took off the gas cap like a few people suggested and had only about 120 mL (which is half a cup for those who don't do metric) of gas flow out under very low pressure. definitely worthwhile to do on my own. thank you for the video.
thanks for the inspiration to do it myself, was thinking of going to the mechanic because i didn´t have the line removing tool, so i improvised one with a sharpie pen, i changed it in les than a minute, regards
That's awesome! Thanks for watching!
Hey I’m a China man and still can’t figure it out help
After someone previously broke off the blue tab on the aft side of the fuel filter, I pried out the filter from the bracket. Then I used the recommended metal tool and wiggled the front hose off and drained the gasoline from the hose and filter into a bucket. Using two picks, I pressed in on both sides of what was left of the rear blue retaining clip and wiggled the filter off the rear fuel hose. The replacement clip is a Dorman 809-043 (3/8). I enjoy your videos. Thanks!
I had the same issue with the tube size being too large on the Motorcraft filter. Turns out that my truck (2006) had a revision because it was built in October. So I returned the Motorcraft FG-1083 (The same one you were first using) and got the correct Motorcraft filter which was FG-1114. Rock On !!!
Crazy silent revision right? Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great demonstration. It helped a lot!!
I agree this was the most helpful video I found on this fix
I changed my 04 f150 and 99 Ranger. UA-cam videos are a great help! The only thing I can add to the videos is that I write on the frame with a permanent marker or paint pencil the mileage and date I changed.
Good tip! Thanks for watching Rick!
Sweet thanks I appreciate you making videos on f150s.
No problem! It is my personal truck which I want to keep for a long time if not forever. Thanks for watching!
I used the Motorcraft FG-1114 on my 2004 5.4L 3v, I think the Flex Fuel models take the larger diameter pipe (FG-1083) for the larger volume for some fuels, but that is a guess.
Great video, and fun with fuel filters : )
Always a good time! :)
Thanks. very explicit video, congratulations
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you soo much for the video. It was a little confusing on the reinstallation or the hoses. Just remember that the dictionary say replace is to put something new in the place of.
I have a 2000 Ford e-150 a plumbing van and I've had it sitting for about four or five years and I tried going to start it. I started you know like least once every 6 months but I haven't got a chance to come down and get it started and I can't get it started without starting fluid. Just want to know about the fuel filter. Should I change it because I used starting fluid. I didn't want to use that but it would run. I would get running but it would cut right back off and I can hear the fuel filter. I mean the fuel pump cut on and everything so do you think that's the problem? Can you give me some advice? Thank you
Merci bien indiqué visuellement et très bien expliqué
Just changed the fuel filter on my 2007 Lincoln Mark LT and it takes Motorcraft FG-1083 fuel filter. I believe the Ford F-150s made from like Nov 2006 and later take the FG-1083. Hope that helps! Also, Amazon's Garage and Oreilley website said the FG 1083 was the correct fuel filter.
It's a mid year shift somewhere, this is was on a 2005 F150 and Amazon said the first one was accurate and it wasn't. But your comment is super helpful and thank you for leaving it!
I know this is an older video but I was told that if you disconnect the electrical connections underneath that go to fuel pump then start your truck and let the engine use up the fuel that would eliminate allot of the gasoline pressure in the system .
No, Just remove the gas Cap that's it.
I watched 3 videos so far you all did it different way so it doesn’t matter how one removes it.
However you get it off. Thanks for watching!
I had an o-ring pop out of evidently the line do I just put that back on the filter and shove it back in or do I need to get a new line I also had a plastic ring it came out of somewhere is anybody know where that goes any help would be great thanks
Thanks!!! I did it in 5 minutes i just bought the tool for $8 dollars. The mechanic wanted to charge me $30
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Omg what kind of tool???
Help
THANK YOU. WE NEEDED TO KNOW IN WHAT DIRECCION THE ARROW WAS POINTING AT INSTALLATION.
For the 2006 I heard that those use Part Number FG-1114 fuel filter
What size fuel release tool?, great video
I had an o-ring pop out of the filter where does that go
It could be either filter u have to match it up to ur old one mine has the bigger lines but by application it shows both filters as an option
Yeah I'm not sure why they would change that. It was the only one available for the 5.4L. Should be right. Thanks for watching!
Is the filter closer to rear or the front of the truck? I have a 2009 and I am unable to find the filter based on several videos I’ve watched…thank you
More in the middle on mine. Just follow the fuel lines from the tank. Thanks for watching!
Where did you get that safety clip for the one fuel line?
I'm just watching this I might be late but you can go to any parts store and they have those in the plastic bags
How do you relive the fuel pressure??
Motorcraft doesn't make filters any way, they just the manufacturer to private lable it.
What do I do if I have trouble removing the line that goes to the engine?
That one is tricky. Took me a long time to slide the tool around in just the right way to get it off. Thank you for watching!
Spray the inside of the fuel line connections with WD-40 prior to removing them.
Worked great until the fuel filter started to move. Can’t get the metal side off when that happens. Any tips for that?
It’s a pain in the ass
Thanks
Thank you for watching!
nice
Thoughts filters there are two types looks the same but tubing are different sizes the filter is a FG-986 ford number
Question. Once the filter is installed do you just go straight to cranking the vehicle over and eventually the fuel will go through the lines or is there a method to priming the lines?
You can just crank it or turn the key the 2nd position and wait for the fuel pump to prime the filter a bit. Thanks for watching!
Cycle the ignition a coupe of times by turning the key to the position right before the vehicle starts.
Thanks for this video! But one question, Can I do this, even with a full tank of gas, or did you have to drain the tank first?
Thanks for watching! Yes you can. I believe I had half a tank when I did this.
I did this with almost a full tank of gas. I would also highly recommend getting the the fuel line removal kit it helps a lot.
@@staffordalvi1929 Thanks!
I just changed this on my '08 F-150, but I can't get the rear line secured back on the filter.
It should just push back on. Make sure your lines are ready to be pushed back on. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros I had to go buy new safety clips. Mine was completely broken and it wouldn't snap on. I got it on yesterday with a new clip, but it looks like the filter wasn't my problem
I break those little clips all the time I want to replace them but what are they called and how to replace
The clips on the filter? Fuel filter clips is what I'd ask the parts house for. Thanks for watching!
You do not need the tool to remove the front line. It's easier to get the tool in the back line if you take the filter out of the bracket first
Where do I get a new safety clip?? I broke mine and need to replace it so how can I get a new one without having to replace the line
I would call the dealer and ask, if anyone has one it is going to be them or rockauto.com Thanks for watching!
Any auto parts store sells them in the HELP section.
@@wrr2112 I was told you have to replace the line because they don't just sell the clip.
MIDAS in Malden MA charged me $139.62 labor to replace fuel filter, I supplied the part. They broke the connectors then bodged it together with worm clamps and a zip tie. Total disaster and a rip off!! If you want it done right, do it yourself! BTW Jiffy Lube is even worse, they broke the connector and bodged together with a zip tie that wasn't put on securely either. Then when I was driving my girlfriend to the RMV the gas was leaking all over the road. The fire dept arrived and said I must have it towed to the shop. The tow truck guy smashed my car into the ramp 3 times because he didnt lower it all the way. Eventually it got on the truck with no major damage and the shop guy repaired the damage from Jiffy Lube. Now I fix these things myself so I don't risk paying idiots to fock up everything.
Did u ever fix that safety clip on fuel line? U said you would so many times kinda got me thinking about it.
right?
In order to fix the clip, you have to buy a new line.
@@rototiller78 Ford sells replacement clips..
You take the broken part out and at the bottom remove the small black plastic between the two holes there and use and new clip from older filter types or use a tir wrap feed trough retainer and tightens up just done other one today like this some one tried but failed and then I end up doing this
How do I know when this goes bad and if it really is the issue?
Usually a sluggish start is a good indicator. Thanks for watching!
What happen if the filter is clogged ? What is the síntomas ?
The truck will won't rev or it will stall. Thanks for watching!
didn't say what size the tool was is it 5/16 or 3/8 or half-inch ???????????????????????
looks like that part 33595 does not fit a 2008 5.4 the MicroGard Fuel Filter
Part #: 33595 should fit
I just want to say when I took off my fuel line a lot of gas came out and I got soaked
Always a risk when working on cars. Thanks for watching!
I have no idea why you didn't just pop the whole filter out of the bracket and THEN deal with taking the lines off and putting them back BEFORE you snap the filter back in it's bracket. MUCH easier to handle as far as I see.
You can do it that way I just prefer to do it the way I did it. Holds it while you fuss with the lines. Thanks for watching!
Shot horizontally😀👍
How do you remove the front line?
Where is that located Duuuu
Inner frame rail driver's side. Toward the front. Just follow the fuel lines from the gas tank up ward. Thanks for watching!
Someone knows how to change the fuel filter ford f 150 2009
It would be basically the same as this. They are super similar trucks. Thanks for watching!
Did you disconnect the fuel pump relay
No. Just don't turn the truck on while working or disconnect the battery. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros done it without disconnection of battery or fuse only a couple of drips
the Arrow?
Say, should I be wearing eye protection for this?
Always a good idea. Thanks for watching!
no you should be fine.
If the filter its bad , what kind of trouble does that give you.
Usually results in low fuel pressure. Thanks for watching!
I did change the fuel pump and the fuel module but still crank but wont start , so that means i have to replace the fuel pump or how do i fix the fuel pressure , i am just watching videos and so far you are been right but just don't know how to fix this one.
Gas is corrosive?
Technically. Thanks for watching!
dont worry only a little bit is gonna come out. no i got completely drenched even after letting it sit for a couple hours
And how much ram and what gpu do a need to do this? xD
i9-7940x and two titan x's my man. Thanks for watching!
Ford changed the size halfway through the year
Larry Greene
No need to buy line removing tool, i used a sharpie pen, cut a 3/4 inch section, then slice along one side without cutting all length so it stays together, you´re welcome
You should name this video "how to break the Locking Tab" and try to buy An obsolete new fuel line from Ford!
Don't make any sparks using steel tools around liquid gasoline! One tiny spark and you will be dialing 911.
Always be careful around gasoline. Thanks for watching!
SO I LIKE YOUR GREAT CAMERA WORK WHERE YOU DONT SHARE WHERE THE DANG FILTER IS.....GENIUS
I'm pretty sure I said it in the video. In case I didn't it is in the frame rail under the truck back from where the driver's seat is. Thanks for watching!
Follow the fuel line from gas tank...genius.
🤣🤣 follow the fuel line. GENIUS.
Do it
You didn’t replace that safety did you
Which one? Thanks for watching!
WHERE. IS. IT. MY. DUDE????
Follow the fuel lines from the tank tward the engine. Inside the frame under the truck driver's side. Thanks for watching!
3:14 5/8"...............5:53 3/8"????????????
Yes a misspeak. I am human. One was bigger than the other. Thanks for watching.
I was confused too. I bought the blue 3/8
Mine sprayed like hell lot gas
Yeah it can, have some rags ready! Thanks for watching!
Pull the fuel pump fuse and crank the engine a few seconds to deplete any pressure in the line. Those fuel lines can still have quite a bit of fuel pressure even if only sitting for a day or so.
Where is it? Every damn video shows how to do it but not where its located
If you can't find your own fuel filter you shouldn't be working on your truck You should probably take it to a guy who knows how to fix things just a thought😂
@@drewbarber9693 i found it. I fixed and cleared the lines before i put the new one in.
He in fact did not replace that
What an incredibly stupid design. Thanks again, Ford. What would be wrong with a firewall mounted filter with a banjo bolt? Dumb Baskets.
