I have a question for you, I have a 2006 Ford F150 5.4L 3v triton. The engine shakes the whole truck, I've replaced the alternator, the battery, and spark plugs and it still shakes when I idle and stalls a lot. What do you think it might be?
James Gregory What about the VCT Solenoids? Have you changed those yet? I also have a 2006 F-150 5.4 3V. When I bought my truck it did shake and stall. I installed new VCT Solenoids. Then it stopped shaking and stalling. Hope this helps.
I viewed your video many times as I (78 years old) prepared to change the fuel filter on my 2005 F-150, paying careful attention to your comments and even your hand positions. Everything went smoothly and without any problem at all. Following completion and successfully having no evidence of leakage, and following a test drive, I could not wait to share my success with my wife and grown sons. Thank you for your outstanding video.
I have same truck. It turns out I love this truck. It doesn't hurt my back like almost all other trucks do, has great power for a gas truck, decent Milage, crewcab has great leg room. It's just a bit on the picky side lol
Good info as usual. I would like to add one thing if you don’t mind... instead of letting the excess fuel spill all over the place (yours was minimal) I pull the fuel pump fuse. This allows the excess fuel to be burned from the line prior to the vehicle shutting off; absolutely no residual pressure. Just a suggestion.
This video is an oldie but a goodie...had a little up and down play with my Reverb Stealth, bought the bleed kit on Amazon, did the bleed (bubbles indeed) and also discovered that the air pressure was only 150 lbs! Got everything squared away with the outstanding advice of this video and now it works like new again. Thank you, sir.
Well it is obvious I am not a mechanic for a reason. With a little grunting and groaning (and by groaning I mean misuse of the english language) I got the job done. Great video with step by step instruction. Thanks.
Nice, I'm an old gear head...thought a fuel filter was a no brainer but we never know the need-to-know & tricks that'd make life easier.....nice video.
Happy to have seen this video. I watched a few others that did it another method. Your method was much simpler. My filter was quite old 5+ years and 40k miles. A little tough to remove. WD-40 on the filter bracket helped a lot. I had to watch how you unclipped the hose after the bend a few times as your hand was in the way. It wouldn't release until I noticed the filter was not pushed all the way to the tang. That little bit of about 1/2" was all it needed and the rest just a few minutes. I have a 4x4 and I had to remove the skid plate to access easier. Just 4 13mm bolts. Thanks for the video.
My hoses (2008 F150 5.4) are slightly different. The line from the tank had an extra 8 in line on the end. The blue clip was on the end of the fuel line coming from the tank and the short fuel line was connected to the filter with a completely different type of connector that was red. Also the first filter I ordered , a Moto FG-1114 had different diameter tubing than mine. Ordered a Napa Gold filter and it was the correct sizing. Love this channel. Decided to rebuild my '08 Lariat with only 90k instead of buying a new rig based on this channel. I figure 20 grand I will be better than new including custom paint, wheels, exhaust, you name it. Thanks Brian.
@Tomato Sauce hahaha well, do you believe in absolute truths? Are you absolutely sure about your answer? Time will end someday but your soul is timeless..... I sure hope you change your position on God’s existence.
Thank you so much for this vid! It helped me. I am learning how to do some things on my own for a '98 F-250 Light Duty I purchased. I would have completed this in like 15 minutes tops but someone had one of the line fittings crimped/bent on to the old filter! Fun time getting that off!!! Thank you again for putting up your vids....in my case, 5-6 have already taught me & helped me complete some tasks on my own. Kudos!!!
Thanks so much for your videos. You have helped me with several repairs on my f150, saved some serious money. I appreciate your straightforward and thorough explanations. Keep it up!
Thank you for this excellent tutorial Brian! I didn't depressurize the fuel system either, but used a 5/16" or 3/8" rubber cap on the old filter while fumbling with the quick release connector. Total spillage was a couple of tablespoons.
Looks so easy! Well we had the plastic and metal tool and worked over 1 hour and couldn't release the front one.....and my brother in law worked as a ford mechanic for years! we will try again next weekend...lol
Because of where I live these filters are always gunked up with mud, crud, undercoating etc.. I always spray off the underneath of my truck before I work on it but ther'll still be a lot of crap stuck to the frame rail so it's never a lot of fun to do it. I spray the actual fittings down with brake cleaner , especially the channel where the fuel filter stem slides in. That channel can fill up with fine debris and prevent the spring tabs from being pushed back enough to make it difficult for the ridge that locks the filter in from sliding past the tabs. Then I give it a squirt of wd-40 for lub. , insert the tool and twist and pull them gently till they release. It seems like they should slide out really easily but they never seem to on my trucks.Never had one leak, though.
Thanks for doing this video, I just changed my dads fuel filter on his 2005 f-150, everything worked out great following your steps in the video! Thanks FordTechMakuloco!
Awesome! Thanks! The clip on mine is just a bit different, but it wasn’t hard to figure out after watching your video. Swapped it out and back in business. Thanks again.
YIKES! I had just purchased a couple of tools needed to do the Phasers and timing chains. Was purchasing timing chain kit today but wanted to review your two videos one more time before buying the kit online today. I see you have been banished, censored, threatened, or whatever. You provided some really great tips and I appreciate all that you have done. You have helped me immensely! I have a 2004 F150 with 193k and could you steer me in the direction of finding the procedures I need such as cam shaft positions for phaser installation and which intake/exhaust I need to relieve pressure using screw driver trick. Both banks please. I think I remember everything else.
Thanks for the tips man. Bought the 3/8 disconnecting tool. With your tips I changed it out pretty quickly. I have a 2008 stx f150 4.6l v8. Love your videos.
Great video. One thing to add, if you are DIY, do the work in a well ventilated area. I almost puked doing this in the garage, even with a depressurized system (only 1/2c of fuel came out). Thanks!
How bout giving us your trouble shooting process you use to get to this repair video. You could make this a two parter. The first video, how you got to the point where you decided to replace this filter. In fact you could do that with most of your videos. I enjoy your work. Thank You for sharing your expertise.
Legit channel.. 93 f150 5.0L Twin throttle body.. Common engine. Factory intake vs twin filter? Sea foam ok on MAP? TTB SWAP.. DANA 60 5:13 ? Suspension is easy. I recommend giving the Fuel shut off valve behind the passenger side Kick panel next to the fuse box, a light tap or two with a hammer while the engine is running, just to be sure the fuel is shut off. and can be turned on again after the new filter is in place.
Friend, thank you for your explanation, in this pandemic I am trying to fix some thing myself and you have helped me a lot, blessings for you from Venezuela
I subscribed today. After watching several of your videos, you are the BEST. Good instructions, clear videos. Since I bought a 2005 F-150, I figure there will be alot of work to do.
The hardest part of the whole installation for me was, the clamp that holds the fuel filter was a pain to take out. It was tight! Other than that the installation went smooth like silk panties.
to release the second fitting, I didnt have the correct tool, I took a lid from a sharpee marker and split it down the side and slid into the fitting. It worked but I would use the correct tool if possible.
i have the el cheapo scissor type and it is a total pos, and doesn't work at all. I worked at it for at least 45 mins and couldn't get it. i had to quit before the broke the damn thing. I'm gona try the sharpie cap tomorrow and get it 100%
Just changed my fuel filter in my 08 XL was a bit different connection was a red tab that you pulled up than pushed back through to get the line off going back to the tank, the front connection was the same. was a GSA truck so they may have swapped it after they damaged the original i don't know. As usual great video, Thank you.
Thank you, for a great "How 2 Video". Q. have you ever drained a fuel tank without removing it from vehicle, and how do you get pass the blocking plug thing in the tank. I thought I could drain tank by removing Hose at tank , insert siphon hose, pump fuel, and be done with it.
Hi where is the fuel filter located for a 2016 f150 5.0 v8 ? I'm also going to replace my fuel injectors do you have a video on how to do this ? Thank you
Followed this video, took me 3 minutes, not counting having to stop my 2 year old from putting the keys in the ignition while I'm tearing the lines apart. The fuel that came out the gas tank side of the filter was brown though, fuel out of the lines on both sides was clear though.
Just did this on my 08, the barb lock on the engine side was damaged. I was able to pull it out and get it to work, but the next time I might not be as lucky. Is there a replacement available? I couldn't locate one on the parts store websites. Thanks for any replies.

Went to put a new fuel filter in, and it's loose, I thought I heard the click, and it won't go in further, it wont come out without a tool either. It just wobbles around, but it's firmly in place. I think the tabs on the retainer on the engine side may be bent. Can I just bend them back? If not, what is that part called?
Did you ever think about explaining you need the tool for the one going back to the tank. You used one but never showed it or talked about it. Good job I wanted to buy a new hose!!
Went to the parts store and asked for a fuel tang. They said there is a lot of tangs. Do you want the retainer tang, locking tang, push tang, and what model tang?
I recently was looking to change the fuel pump driver module on my 2001 F 150 5.4 2V. When I dropped the spare tire, instead of finding the module. I found a black box with a hole in one end and a hose on the other going to a hemi cylinder on top of the cross member. On the box is an arrow saying "to canister". What is it and is there another place were the module might be?

One of the best videos I've seen.
I recommend giving the Fuel shut off valve behind the passenger side Kick panel next to the fuse box, a light tap or two with a hammer while the engine is running, just to be sure the fuel is shut off. and can be turned on again after the new filter is in place.
You can manually trip these. I use the door key in the slot at the top. It'll pop the button then crank the motor.
Michael B. Good to know. Usually just started it, and tapped it with a small hammer. I had know clue you could pop it with a key or flat head driver.
Sure am glad I found your channel.
Your tutorials are top-notch. Thank you.

No Schrader valve on the fuel rail. That makes it another animal to check or relieve fuel pressure...thanks Ford.

Thanks...spot on instructions! Just took a few minutes!!
Thx Bud Just Did It To my 08 F150 N Runs a Lot Better Thx For the Vid Helped Out a Lot
Hi where is the fuel filter located for a 2016 f150 5.0 v8 ? I'm also going to replace my fuel injectors do you have a video on how to do this ?
Thank you
How often do you think this should be changed? I have a 2005 that’s never been changed. What are the symptoms of a filter that needs changed?
You should change them around every 50k
Great instructions. Thanks. Off to do that on my 06 Expedition.
Followed this video, took me 3 minutes, not counting having to stop my 2 year old from putting the keys in the ignition while I'm tearing the lines apart.

What year models and engines is this technique applicable?
Is it the exact same filter used on modern ford cars? If equipped

Is it necessary to press the button on the floor passenger side in order to shut off the fuel?

dude you are awesome thank you for all these videos
Hi Fordtechmakuloco...I snapped my tab on the line that connects to the filter. Do you know the name of that line so i can order a replacement?
Went to put a new fuel filter in, and it's loose, I thought I heard the click, and it won't go in further, it wont come out without a tool either. It just wobbles around, but it's firmly in place. Another great video.Thanks.Great Job again.
