My idea for minecraft lore is that instead of the nether being below bedrock, the void is actually just the gap between them and that is why it is so empty on the nether roof.
And the end is in the void between the bedrock and the nether.
@@ninjan2002 i always thought of the end to be above the overworld but i like this idea better
it's like stranger things. the upside down.

(also kinda like that idea, mby ill make it so if you fall into VOID and then go to the bottom of VOID and then fall out of VOID you end up in the nether as an Easter egg/homage to this comment here since it kind of works for the lore of the 16 realms)
Just saying, the other dimensions are considered entirely separate dimensions or different universes as they are called dimensions, and the fact the other 2 realms don't allow you to sleep of anything supports this further more do to implying that these places have slightly different universal laws or so which wouldn't make much sense if it was all just one universe if you want to take that mechanic into consideration.

As a Java programmer myself, you could hypothetically make the function "return false;" instead of "return p_1234 < -1.0/0.0 ||...". From the looks of it, all the function is doing is checking if the provided height is out of bounds, hence the method name. So just tell it, "no" in every scenario.
Also, it crashes on -1/0 but not -1.0/0.0 due to a difference in how whole integers vs floating point numbers (numbers with decimal places) work in programming. Basically, there isn't a built in way to represent infinity for whole integers, so it crashes if you end up with infinity. However floating point numbers do have a way to represent infinity in binary, and it's actually part of the floating point standard. So it doesn't crash and actually gives you -infinity.
Could also use "Double.NEGATIVE_INFINITY" to achieve the same effect too, as that's basically just a built in infinity value that you can reference.
It's always cool to see the hijinks one can get up to when messing with the minecraft source code.
Floating point inaccuracy explains why falling no longer works. Floating point numbers (such as 1.0) have two parts, one which dictates the precision and the rest is the data of the number. Having less precision means that larger numbers can be stored but it also means that adding relatively small amounts to the position will not add anything to the number. This is why at some point, you can no longer fall.
@@maximumg99 the farthest you can fall into the void is about 36.028 quadrillion blocks (2^55), the fastest speed you can fall in minecraft is about 90m/s which is about 4.5 blocks/tick, at 4.5 quadrillion (2^52) double precision floats only store whole numbers, at 2x that doubles only store even numbers and 2x that all numbers must be divisible by 4, at 2^54 blocks into the void you must at least move 4 blocks in order for the actual value of the float to change, since max speed of falling is 4m/tick you are still able to fall at 2^54 depth. at 2^55 depth you must fall 8 blocks in 1 tick to be able to keep going down farther. there is still a chance that the 4.5 would be rounded up to 8 effectively accelerating you, if this is the case the limit would be 2^56 blocks down since moving 16 blocks in 1 tick isnt possible from just falling

There are things in this world that you're not meant to see
Game engines don't have an "end" to space unless the developer adds one. They just eventually behave weirdly and crash, as you saw.
Yep, floating point limits/32 but integer limits come into play when you go far enough, as the values of the position axes become illegal

Breh in minecraft pocket edition u don't die to the void in creative and u can walk in the void at the bottom :)
True. The real ending would be when it crashes.
Like in roblox, falling down to the void in any game just kills you but if you get flung so hard into the sky you basically become garbled. This happened to me on a lot of games
What I find really interesting is that the void damage returned when you went super crazy deep, and the colors kept getting more and more strange.

If they were to use a plugin to fake a fact on a video, well that just doesn't make sense. Especially when it's something everyone (who owns java) can easily check. So i never really considered that being a possibility.
All i know is that its likely to do with how the game is programmed to check position to deal void damage, and all its done is underflowed. I don't know for sure but that's my first guess

8:50 the purple is result of graphics processing failing to process which often results in this specific pink tone as a fallback. Before that it gradually faded towards more solid colors, probably as a sky visual, eventually reaching a point where color values are no longer numbers (NaN), resulting in pink.

@@Genral2000 this is uncorellated the missing texture checkerboard texture in source is a texture generated at runtime by the game and is used if the game cannot find the .vtf (texture file) the game points to. as to why the minecraft sky turns pink, without having a look at the source code i couldn't tell you. my guess is the height is somehow used in the calculation of the gradient colors and those high numbers overflow the value and it just happens to land at a value that makes it pink. if it is based on the cameras xyz that would also explain the flashing.

As someone who actually does understand something about programming, it was hilariously to watch how you found your way to bypass the limit. I would have just deleted that statement and replaced it with 'return false', which would lead to the game just not checking any boundary conditions before performing the teleportation. However I like your way more.
To the question, whether or not the void is infinite, I can assure you, it is not. The largest possible value you could store, is, if you used all available ram to store the position, while compressing the number as best as possible (maybe even lose precision at the gain of more depth). From this point on I think these questions are the most interesting to me:
- How does minecraft actually store the position? This will shed a light onto the actual limit the computer can represent your position.
- How does minecraft render your scene? It seems to me, that it doesn't move you and the camera down, but the world up. My reasoning is, normally at such large numbers, the player would start jittering arround, while loosing precision, because you are so far away from the center. Here it seems the other way arround (allthough there are no blocks or entities to confirm this).
honestly, I know nothing about code so it was a miracle that I found a way to bypass it 🤣 and honestly it seems for the most part obvious that its not infinite, but breaking the game and seeing what happens at such incredible integers really is something fun to try out.

Oh my god no

The first thing you would have to do is define what a limit is. If you are going to manipulate the code to just go further and further into the negatives, there is no limit. To me, a limit would be the point in which you would stop falling if you fell into the void without taking damage. In the video, a point where the player stops falling was reached but since the teleportation command was used, the actual point in which a player would stop falling may be at a higher point.
I agree completely.
What we need is a mod that allows you to use scientific notation to enter the numbers. That might _functionally_ be as high as you can get with the exception of maybe also finding some way to remove the character limit.
I'm pretty sure the void is actually infinite, it's just there will eventually be a practical barrier to testing this. Either we'll run out of methods to give us access to new enormous numbers to try, which theoretically we have not yet done as my suggestions above suggest, OR those two things CAN be done but now you have the problem of needing infinite time to type an infinitely large exponent comprised of 9s.
PS: So, as I wrote the last line, another idea hit me that maybe there's a third way to access new numbers, and that would be somehow altering minecraft's code to do both of the things I already stated, but then also being able to "nest" exponents WITHIN exponents. Like, not just 9^9, but 9^9^9^9^9^ etc.
You now have your mission parameters man. Having some coding experience myself, the first two suggestions are almost certainly possible. I don't know about nested exponents, though. I hope you'll find your answers. I mean, as was already discussed, you literally can't, but it would be interesting to see just how far you can push this thing. CAN you get to that hard ceiling of needing infinite time to input infinite exponents of exponents of exponents? I THINK that would be the final wall. I don't think there's a way to further break this thing.

You can basically go forever if you keep modifying how the game works, because each limit is another, different programming challenge. You could go further, if you remade the code in a different programming language that used infinitely large integers. Just a little insight into the programming involved. The player's position is actually not stored as an integer, but a double-precision floating point (basically a number that can store a decimal value), so the experimentation with the 64-bit integer limit didn't appear to limit the player's position, because a double can easily exceed 2^63 (in Java all integers are signed, so you can't actually reach 2^64 with an int exactly - hence 2^63). Instead, the limit is more like 1.7976*10^308 as others have pointed out already, as this is the biggest number a double can store before it's considered "infinity".
I wonder if there is any chance you can store +infinity or -infinity as the y value and not have it crash.
@@muctashio6490 Who knows, maybe it's possible... my guess is that it would generate a lot of NaNs if you tried to use it in calculations, though, as the game certainly needs to, so I reckon it would more likely crash.

When teleporting to the sky, you can actually make it more, either modifying chat limits or multiplying the number you typed to the chat by the biggest number you can represent. Also, as stated in the comments, you can use double datatype instead of int or float, and unsign it and pretend like it is always positive (for sky case), you will probably go much far. lets say n=999... you can make it n^n.

The chat line is good, but as you said, it maxed out. A workaround to this is command blocks which have a much longer amount of space
I think that as you keep on falling, I think there is a portal that keeps on teleporting you over and over again in the void but it just keeps on adding blocks on the coordinates but if you stay in there the portal gets glitched and the damage stops which the portal breaks and the world gets corrupted in the void.
so basically the void loops into the sky after an infinite amount of negative blocks down but you can't loop into the sky because the number is infinite, so sky and void are linked but you can't get into the sky portion? Cool! It reminds me of a 2013 minecraft mod where if you drop yourself into the void you actually fall from the sky. (Sry don't remember the name)
You are talking about the legendary Aether Mod. Fun Fact: The creater of this mod works for Mojang now and has developed the Warden.
it's called forgiving void i believe, aether didn't come out in 2013
if the game didn’t crash, could something like stack underflow make something like this work in Minecraft without mods?
I don’t think it’s looping into the sky; the world is just so distant that it no longer renders, leaving the sky in view along with the void.
@@weirdtoaster6959 floating point integers dont overflow and underflow, they just become infinity or -infinity and stop being able to change
I'd love to see how the game handles stabilizing out as you fall down towards the surface from crazy heights. Do the sky colours change? Does it crash? Like perhaps if the fall speed got changed to something much higher than usual, like 5000 blocks a second or higher, would the game even be able to keep up?
I have an idea , after going to the limit , maybe you can edit the tickspeed so you can go down much faster , and if theres a limit , edit the codes to make the tickspeed super fast
For our sins we deserve eternity in hell, but God loves us so much he came as Jesus to pay the price of our sins through living a perfect life for us, his death and his resurrection so we can be forgiven and receive eternal life if we follow and obey him in faith FOR LIFE , Jesus loves u all and desires to have a personal relationship with you all of love, peace, redemption and obedience ✝️

This gives me the same feeling that old source game visual errors did when I was a kid. Freaky but not in a way I can explain.
Bedrock Edition: “Yeah well, I have a floor in the Void!”
@Christian Dave Gayeta wow I also did same I went so deep that the void looked like cyan and purple color
Ye
Lol
Yeah you take any void damage in creative mode in bed rock
Lol
Java can recognize numbers higher than the int limit. You could have made that number into a long which goes to 64 bits. Admittedly, that would probably break a whole bunch of other stuff.

I have an intereating theory about whats going on when you try to go over the 32-bit integer limit:
Im not sure how languages like java handle this but in asm, or depensing on what kinda env and compiler you use, the likes of C and rust, when you try to write a number thats bigger than the type you define it as, it overflows the memory, and just writes the bytes that didnt fit inside the memory allocated for your variable into whatevers next to it in the ram, and if whatevers next to that at runtime happened to coincide with the color and saturation of the sky, it could explain why it was shimmering and flashing like that, youre badically breakinf your computers memory (its harmless dont worry, a program can only use memory allocated to it, and when it terminates its freed, thats why we have operating systems. Its still sth that should be avoided but like the worst thing that can happen is you crash the game)
So what you were doing as you took the number higher and higher was corrupting more and mote memory, so it went craziee everytime, and crashed the game in the case of the void cos i guess when youre in negative y the memory cells next to your current y level hold things that are essential for the game to run, or it might just be java exiting as like a failsafe built into the framework used
You could go higher if you use a command block which has a higher character limit or you could remove the limit through code.
Thanks for the amazing video!

This is crazy how humongously big a literal block game
Idea. Get a mod that make its upside down and then avoid will be where the sky is
This is actually different in bedrock edition. In BE, after falling ~60 blocks below bedrock (y=-60 before 1.18, y=-124 after.), you’ll stop falling. You’ll still take damage, but you won’t be falling anymore. You can actually walk while doing this, at the same speed as normal walking. If you give yourself invulnerability (for example by getting resistance 256 or creative mode), you can just stay there for a while. You CAN get below that, however, with a /tp command. In which case, it would be just like JE, where you fall indefinitely.
If a limit isn’t programmed into the game, it will go forever until it finally crashes. The farther you get from the center of the map, the more confused the game gets and will start glitching out your avatar/screen because it stretches farther and farther from the main area. I’m pretty sure all 2D and 3D games have this limitation.
Video so fire, granny did a dance on the floor🔥
Some years ago i tried to do this on the pocket edition, the game didn't crash and i could teleport ad deep as i want but the cool part is that after falling for a REALLY long time (i don't remember the y) i've been teleported in the sky at the same y but positive.
I study informatic and all this make sense since when you try to go over the memory limit of a numer (the number of bits) the CPU start to do the calculus but it can't make the numbers bigger so the value restart from the opposite limit.
For example, a number 8-bit has a range 255-0. 255 in binary Is 11111111 but if you try to add 1 you don't have the space for the new 1 on the left. 11111111 + 1 should be 100000000 but the limit Is 8 digits so you get 00000000. This works also with signed numbers like -2
I have done a similar experiment to this in MCBE where i went into the void in creative, but since there is a border in the void that is unbreakable in BE I used the /tp command to tp under the border, i also used /tp to tp millions of blocks under the map, as in BE you can tp up to 30million blocks, as that is the max. I can say that there is nothing underneath the void, yet I only went to -36million.
I tried that I may try that again but android may stop me
If you go to 30m on bedrock edition on z xit gets stretched and weird

You could go higher up if you edited the number of characters you can put in a message. Or if you created a command that could let you move vertically x number of units on each use instead of setting specific coordinates. Or if you used something like world edit to build a tower up to you and you could just keep building higher (that one might just crash it lol). Maybe there is some way to put a block down so you could stand on it though and you could keep building or at least jump.

bedrock players: “this video should be 1 minute long”
In my opinion, we could think that the void ends when you don't take damage from it anymore.
Also... If you don't take damage lower, does that mean other rules of the void like placing blocks also vanished?

I think you can type even longer things into command blocks(I think those can handle 32767 characters but not sure) and also I think if you can use the command block to teleport the highest possible value would be the 1024 bit integer limit ((2^1023)-1)

Bedrock edition: I don’t have such weaknesses!
Last time I checked, there was a limit to the void in the bedrock edition of the game. The devs put a one block layer unbreakable barrier in the void just further down of where the player would normally die, and if you were to effect yourself with invulnerable properties (I think creative mode might even work) then you could stand on it and be able to look up at the bedrock floor, or rather ceiling.
However I did find out shortly after you could just teleport under it and continue falling.
in bedrock the void used to have no solid barrier so you would fall forever
and that’s literally how I lost my first ever creative world
Teleportation?
You can teleport though the border

4:04 that's the limit of a *signed* 32 but integer, but not unsigned...

You should have found the point where you stop falling through the void. You could do this with a binary search since you can always tell whether you're too high or low by whether you can still fall or not, kinda like a guessing game, where I picked a random number in a range and told you whether each of your guesses was too high or low. If the range was 0-100, you'd start with 50. If that was too high, you'd go to 25, if it was too low, you'd go to 75, and so on. It would take probably about 60-64 guesses to find the limit this way.
So you know, the reason you stop falling is almost certainly due to the double-precision floating point limit. There is a limit to the precision with which the position of any entity can be specified. Within a few kilometers of spawn, this limit will be at or below the nanometer range, having no effect on Steve, who typically moves multiple centimeters per frame. The limit gets worse, however, the farther from 0, 0, 0 you get. At a certain distance, the limit will be many meters and when the game tries to make Steve fall down, the distance fallen won't be far enough to get Steve to the next lower position that can be specified by a double-precision floating point, so he just doesn't move.
I don't know why it shows -9,223,372,036,854,776,000 as the position. That's not a number that can be represented with a double. Looks like it's been rounded. The next lower value before the 64-bit limit that can be represented as a float is -9,223,371,487,098,961,920, which is 549,755,813,888 blocks lower, so naturally the point at which you stop falling is going to be way way above this limit.
but technically you could alter the games code to extend the character limit, and since computers limit is the 64 bit number that might mean you can tp 249 9's up in the air (which is a ridiculous number), which would give you the actual limit of the void (maybe?).
this is just a theory though and probably wouldnt work
The fact that the ENTIRETY of minecraft is "ten duoseptuagintillion" times larger than THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE BUT WE STILL CANT GO TO SPACE? DAMN.
Gonna say it after the warning at 6:20. I was just vibing at the screen colors
You can teleport longer using a command block because the character limit is higher. If you want to go further, you can program a plugin to basically ignore character limit.
Thanks for showing us. I'm so curious about what it looks like.
What I see to work around what you've discovered:
/execute as tp ~ ~ ~
Copy that command, then
/setblock ~ ~-1 ~ command_block
Paste it, activate it
Repeat until your game says sayonara
Personally, I think that if you keep falling if the game doesn't crashes, you might end up on the nether roof.
Thats a big no no, but what if you are right and the dimnensions are stacked on each others, but infinite dist..
no, when you go in a portal it probably unloads the current dimension you're in and spawns a new one like other games. theres nothing that makes the game switch
You’ll just wind up in the backrooms
@@sassanhu that's not possible. If that was the case, minecraft would have to be run on beast computer as it has to load a large amount of blocks in a chunk
@@sassanhu I mean, if you go to the nether and get all the way to the top (of course in creative mode), then you end up on a roof of the nether, and above it just looks like your looking up at the void

You can use a command block to type 32500 characters... sooo... yeah...
the command:
tp @s ~ "insert y coord number" ~
has 10 characters itself (notice that in command blocks you don't need the "/") to you can plug in a 32490 digit number at max.
on certain versions i remember being able to go into the void as creative and fall onto a bedrock platform similar to the nether roof and idk if this helps but it totally happened
Yeah, there is a primitive type in Java which is a 32-bit integer and it is called Integer (or int for primitive). However player position is stored using a floating point type. Double to be exact. Which is a 64-bit integer in Java which leads to a limit of approximately 1.7*10^308.
EDIT: You were trying to change the condition inside of a function which returns a boolean which is a logical type for true or false. Considering the name of the function "isOutsideSpawnableHeight" we can make a simple conclusion that it should return false to be able to proceed with the teleport. So you could have just removed the condition and replaced it with "false"
I was screaming this the whole time bro
Polish youtuber Roxmb did it in 2016 ( ua-cam.com/video/M4S6KzjKL3I/v-deo.html ). He also did some other very interesting experiments in his video.
Floats or dubbles are not 64-bit integers, but otherwise well said. They're not integers at all, they're floating point numbers.
@@edwin5145 Good point, but that was said like that for the sake of simplicity cuz as you can see the author or the video does not know what he is doing at all.
@@h4ktbtw Yes, fair.

Yes, the chat stops you, but what if you don't use the chat?
Command blocks have a character limit of around 32767 to 65536 (I think 65536 is the default for most servers and worlds), but that would mean that you could possibly go to 9.99999999999x10^32750 (about that, correct me if I'm wrong).
You can also customize the character limit for command blocks (/gamerule maxCommandChainLength ), so we can go higher. Much, much higher. If you can get to Y=9.99999999999x10^32750 or higher, you can be pretty sure that it's infinite.
you can only go to 1.7976e+308 blocks or 1.7976 uncentillion blocks because this is the maximum amount that java can recognize numbers.
