- There's a lot of misinformation out there for metal stamping beginners. In this series of videos, I'll walk you through some of the tools and supplies you'll need for starting off, and address some of the not-so-awesome advice and recommendations I've seen. And bonus, you get a close-up look at my Nutella-coated crafter's hands!
*Picking up here, where the previous video cut off, I let you know a bit about polishing products and how they compare.

Great Tips! Thanks for your help :-)
Your tutorials are the best!
Getting into stamping. I am a bit late into the game but, I appreciate all the advice! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the video. Very educational and excellent tips.
You’re very welcome!
thanks so much...you have saved me $$ already!
I need to get some polishing clothes just for polishing jewelry in general
Can I use a Mr. clean eraser sheet?
I love sharpie idea, but was wondering if you could use other color sharpies also?
Yes you can. They all work just fine hope that helps 😁
Hi there, I was wondering if you could tell me where I could find the pro polishing pads? I live in Australia...
Isabel Brown hi! I get them from a few different places. I've ordered from Amazon, Etsy, and Beaducation. I think you'll be able to get international shipping through those sites. If you have trouble getting your hands on them, you can use Mother's Mag or Penny Brite, or something like that. They're metal polishing creams that are available at the hardware store, and you just rub a dab onto your piece and polish with a soft cloth until it shines.
Hi I use gilders black paste to fill in the stamping, and then I clean off the excess using rubbing alcohol it doesn't effect the darken lettering.
Charles Friezo I'm glad you said that! Ive been thinking of trying gilders paste but haven't been brave enough yet. It has so many great colors too, I'll bet it would be terrific if someone wanted to branch out a little. Thanks for the comment!
You are welcome!
Hi Kate, I have a question for you...Have you ever used Zinc-Alloy metal for stamping onto? If so, did you find it suitable for the impressart stamps? Thanks!!
Sarah McLeod Hi there! I'm actually not familiar at all with zinc alloy as a stamping medium. I have used aluminum, copper, and brass. I know that pewter, silver, nickel silver, gold, nugold, and stainless steel are also popular choices for stamping on. I would say that if you're looking into zinc alloy, try to find out what the alloy is. My understanding is that zinc is a moderately soft metal. If it is alloyed with aluminum, that would seem like a good metal to stamp on with your standard Impressart stamps. But if the blanks you are looking at are zinc alloy coated stainless, I would steer clear.
Although I haven't worked with them, Impressart does a line of premium font stamps that have a lifetime guarantee, and I believe they are rated for use on stainless steel.
One last thing I would suggest checking, and that's whether or not zinc (and whatever it's been alloyed with) is a common allergen. If you're planning to use it for jewelry, some people have sensitivities to certain metals (like nickel), but I'm not sure if zinc is one that would fall into that category.
How's that for a long-winded answer?? 😉
Awesome! Thanks for the information. Your videos are really great, i hope you continue to make more of them! happy stamping! Sarah :-)
What is the machine called where you can stamp metal without the hammer noise?
I have a question, English is not my principal language… it is possible you explained but I did not understand. Do I need to buy that market or i can use any other?
Can I also use a steel wool? And if so what grit grade? Ty
Yes. Link is in the description.
Hi! I'm googling and searchin for the right sizes of metal stamps to use for the letters! Do you have any suggestions? I'm thinking of buying the 1/8" one, what size should i choose?
Also I wanted to add that I'm buying capital letters, so in the other video you said 3mm for small letters. What about capital letters then? Please answer
It’s just a personal preference thing. It will depend on what size of blank you’re stamping on, what your design will look like, etc. Here’s a link to the video where I talk about the pros and cons of the font sets I owned at the time. ua-cam.com/video/QPCu3CCWy_c/v-deo.html
Do you use anything to finish off metal, like to smooth it out? Ive been looking for a good finishing tool for my bracelet blanks to smooth rough edges out.
Aubrey Campie You know, I just tried out a nail dining block from the beauty supply store the other day and it worked great for that! I got a few different grits. They're the kind a nail tech would use for acrylic nails. I think one is called polar block and then I got one with a coarser grit. I have blanks with a pretty severe bur on the back side, and it took that right off. I've also used metal files from harbor freight, and those work great too.
Nail *filing* block. Sheesh autocorrect!
ok awesome! I just bought these raw blanks from this amazing etsy supplier, so they arent finished at all and my dremel sander tool lasts about 5 seconds before the sanding part is worn out and I have to switch...I just bought this and it's arriving tomorrow, www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003K2E7CM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I am hoping these diamond burrs will make short work of smoothing edges and rounded square cuts, because the nail file and the dremel thus far has been SO time consuming! Like 10+ minutes on each bracelet blank! Maybe i'm being extra cautious about smooth edges, who knows...I'll let you know how these work out and might try a nail block if it doesnt pan out
Aubrey Campie Oooo! Nice! I want a Dremel in a bad way! The blanks I get from my supplier also have that sharp edge on the back, and the best thing I've found for that is to run it through a tumbler for a few hours with mixed media jewelers shot and some shine brite. I say let the machine do the hard part!
Pleaseeeee help! I dont get pro polish pads in india. And shipping it to india from other country costs me a hell lot of dollars..... Is there any substitute to pro polish pads?
Ankita Gada Hi there! There are lots of options besides propolish pads! You can use a silver polish, or other metal polishing compound (liquid or cream) and a soft rag. If you like a satin finish instead of glossy, you can use a nail file to buff it, or you can use steel wool. I personally love steel wool! If you only want to remove ink, you can use rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth. (My most recent video shows how to do this.)
I like mirror finish dat i see after pro polish pads. It removes small scratches that we have made while using blanks. Can that also b removing by the options u gave? Sory if my question r illogical or silly.. m very new to stamping.. jus starting off.
Ankita Gada Yes absolutely! I use a paste called “Mother’s Mag and Aluminum Polish.” It makes them SO shiny and takes out the scratches. Can you get something like this where you are? When you open it, it smells like mint and feels like tooth paste. You take a tiny bit out of the can and rub and rub it on your metal with a soft cloth until it shines.

Thank u so mucj
Penny Brite, white diamond, flitz compound, or anything like that will also work great.
I have a question, English is not my principal language… it is possible you explained but I did not understand. Do I need to buy that market or i can use any other?
You can use any permanent marker. I also use oil based paint markers sometimes. So it’s okay to experiment with different things and see what you like best.
