- Russian President Vladimir Putin is demonstrating to the world through recent trips around Asia that his country still has friends, and efforts by the West to isolate it are futile. Dr Chang Jun Yan, assistant professor of military studies and United States programmes at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, shares his thoughts on the significance of the visit to Vietnam on CNA’s East Asia Tonight.

That, and a trip to two Asian countries is being called a "tour around Asia". That says it all.
Russia is also doing a good job for China ...
going around to make friends ,signing agreement after agreement...with these countries ...economic or military pacts ...is showing to the world what the US can do ...Russia too can do ...and in fact China too can do the same .
The best example is to have its naval.ships to Cuba and now to renew and strengthen links with Vietnam 🇻🇳 for the scars of the Vietnam war are still there . The US has not compensated the victims of those who have suffered from the chemical warfare conducted by the US on the Vietnamese.
So this is a good move ..by Russia to help China when the US tries to use Vietnam against China 🇨🇳

That region is lucky to be visited by a Russian leader. These countries ought to be welcoming for Russia's trade ties and cultural exchanges.
All these wars throughout history and humanity has still learned nothing. Cooperation and mutual respect is how we progress, not by conflict and rivalry.

Many countries leader will visit Russia for BRICS meeting this October.
The former Soviet Union supported these Aian countries through their darkest moments. There were no long-lasting mistrusts between the leaders.
Hence their friendship can withstand the test of time.

- the rest of it is the international water,
- no part of it belongs to China🇨🇳 or Taiwan🇹🇼.

China and India do massive trade with the U.S., so why should Vietnam be any different when all those nations have close ties with Russia?
Russia 🇷🇺 (or formerly USSR) and Vietnam 🇻🇳 had a Mutual Defense Agreement when China invaded Vietnam in 1979.
At that time, most of Vietnamese fighting forces were still in Cambodia. But Russia did nothing to help!
