You mean like how under Apartheid South Africa was a better country for everyone who lived there instead of today? Today South Africa is ran by African gangs, and Muslims are also trying to come in and take over the country. South Africa can no longer offer its people electricity and running water. Yet under Apartheid, the country could offer its people electricity and running water, and even jobs. Not today. All liberal policies lead to South Africa.

In my opinion he's much less a criminal than those you mention, and in order to build a new true multipolar world order we need to work with Putin (and Xi). Therefore it's a really bad idea to start by calling him a criminal.

Excellent question. I like Varoufakis, but he lost me at that point. It's sort of an auto da fe, an act of faith, that dissident Western intellectuals have to make in order to be listened to. Chris Hedges does the same thing, as do so many others. It's a mistake, because it cedes ground to the criminals who govern us and who never cede a millimeter to their opponents: i.e., the dissident masses.

You don't have to be ashamed, but I understand you. I don't know anyone in Croatia who does not speak negatively against the ruling party and the economic direction we are heading in, but recently they won the elections again and formed a government with the help of coalition partners whose basic premise before the election was that the ruling oligarchy should be overthrown because of crime and corruption. You at least have Yanis in the opposition party,...only a strong opposition can ensure at least some kind of democratic society.

Their wealth and prosperity have always been based on stealing and taking from others in one way or another. They never look at the mistakes there forbearers made. They never look at themselves and ask, what do we have to do to change from a predatory society to a society that's works in harmony and have a symbiotic relationship with the rest of the world.
The west stil have a feudal system. Like the romans, like in the middle ages, like during the colonial era and just like today. It will be their downfall not just from outside forces but more over from whitin as well.

Yes, the lack of serious and concerted criticism coming from the *left* (not from the far right), criticism of the EU machinery and of global capitalism, is an extremely striking feature of today's public scene compared to the 1990s. Not to barge in, but Varoufakis has indeed described the west’s (NATO expansion) role in this tragedy (for all of us). As he mentions here - we should have _talked_ back in ‘22. (and he mentioned the expansion at this time of me writing…).
My take is that no people ARE their state leader at all times. Voices in the US or Israel oppose their governments actions, or imperialism in general (uni protests, climate actions). I would believe that happens in Russia and Ukraine too, but the fog of war is thick - a hopeful outsider like me can not know. Our media are biased like never before - and I’m 58 now…
The current aggression of ‘the west’ is just frightening. If this blows up, I’d believe that leftists like me end up in a camp. Strange, since we don’t have power anywhere in ‘the west’.

It's impossible, Greece have the same politiciens for decades, this cannot be changed because Greek politicians feed over 50% of the population. Corruption between politicians and citizens in Greece is at a very high level. Most Greeks now are pensioners and civil servants without logic, They just want their children to get a job in the public sector, that's why they vote for the same politicians. They blame Varoufakis because they could withdraw 60€ a day in cash, but forget the fact that they could make payments by debit card, bank transfer, etc. because Greece operates on black money = cash
I am a young greek without heritage, so staying here is impossible with a salary of 1000€ and rent of 600€

The creation of the so called modern state of Israel was a tragic mistake, oh & a war crime too.
Afterall how could it not be, when it was created for mostly recently arrived foreigners from another continent, & foreigners that had yet to arrive, in total contradiction to the wishes & interests of the local longstanding nativeborn majority, that still made up between 70% & 80% of the population & owned or controlled 90% of the land (either privately or a village/town commons according to the official census maps). No other people on the planet would accept such a scheme, so why should the Palestinians. The Victorian era of colonialism ended decades earlier & colonising already settled land was made a war crime 2 years earlier in 1946. There’s no deny Israel’s colonial status as virtually every zionist organisation that pre-dated WWII had a derivative of the word “colonisation” in their names, only to change their names after the war when such words had a bad smell.
There will never be peace for Israel until it openly admit the immoral truth of zionism as a colonial construct akin to the Leibensraum of the Nazis & as such has no place in the modern world.

    4:46 No, Yanis
I listened to you at many talks now and I found much of what you said quite right ( it’s annoying there’s always your hatred for Germany as well I can understand it being the finance minister of Greece than. But this obstructs a clear view as you very well know and always would be able to see regarding other people.) But today I found the crucial piece that makes your puzzle wrong at all. The EU did do quite well until the 90th, than the USA wanted the eastern countries joining NATO. They didn’t feel threatened because the Warsaw Pakt dissolved itself. So NATO/USA needed an incentive for these countries. This incentive was membership in EU ( getting a lot of money to evolve and people are allowed to work in any other EU country) No simple village can survive if there as as much new citizens as there are old ones and all are poor so all “old” members had to pay for them. NATO/ USA did. force this. I didn’t realise it at that time because I really thought that the EU was independent. Ten years later the amis noticed that their dollar/ banking system was more and more dysfunctional. They tried to give as much debts to EU and Japan ( Japan didn’t want to do they were strikes by HAARP / reactor accident). EU grew bigger and bigger and was hardly to be navigated in any way.
These are the foundations of what is happening in EU now.
But I don’t know why the EU didn’t say the sentence from Victoria Nuland the other way round: f* the USA . What gives them the power that the EU doesn’t dare to have any own opinion? Well Germany is an occupied country since WWII ( what’s against any international law for that long time by the way) but what about the other EU member states? Please think about. Could it be that all the “political personal” took part in some “Epstein games” and were blackmailed? Did they try it with you too? Is it that simple? ( since Covid we know what ordinary people do to keep their job that they don’t even like)
You’re in that scene. Please try to rethink.
    Thanks 😊

Yanis is one of the few sane objective & pragmatic voices in the West. The world needs more people like him.
I'm sick of the Western media portraying every conflict as a "good v/s evil" Armageddon - the West is (obviously) the "good guys" and, led by the American military-industrial complex, invest in endless wars that benefit ONLY the Western defense contractors. Every decade since Post-WW2, the West has either provoked or supported one or more wars.
The American/Israeli "solution" of near-annihilation of the "enemy" in any conflict (rather than finding a win-win long term stable peaceful solution by recognizing issues in their own foreign policies) ensures that long after the war has been "won", the simmering discontent/helplessness amongst the vanquished who are left utterly destroyed (after being labelled as the 'culprits'), channelizes into terrorism.
In recent times, I was happy to see Europe beginning to break out of the US mold. But with the far-right winning in Europe, and Trump (likely) back as POTUS, the next decade might see the EU either disintegrate or too fragmented to make any difference on the world stage. And so, the current global mess will keep festering. And lets not forget the pending US-China showdown over Taiwan. For the military-industrial complex its popcorn time.
