      Dear Carol, it is so nice to hear from you! I am so glad that you like the Hebrew, and Freddy, and the videos! The sealer coat is made from dissolving lac in denatured alcohol and then I add a little bit of gamboge to give it a golden color. Sending love and greetings back to you over there in Valencia! Hope you have a wonderful blessed week!

    On your new fiddle top the tap tone needs to be the same across the whole plate . Easy to adjust by thinning high tone areas including the bass bar . A test which the old boys kept quiet about !

    Your repair work is just amazing! You are literally giving the 1600's violin a new life. Is this one of the oldest instruments you have repaired? I hope the original maker is aware his centuries-old instrument is in loving-hands. Tell Freddy I will send photos. Stupidicus.

    As I'm sure you'll know, Tom Pinch is a character from the novel "Martin Chuzzlewit" by Charles Dickens. The little picture of him is from my ancient copy of the novel. Tom has been my faithful representative on UA-cam ever since I joined in 2010. My real name is Ian, but like Tom I do play the organ at my local church.
    It would be a sad day if you gave up posting.

    Very interesting video! Sandpaper on a violin? I thought that was a "no-no". Also, did "no school" mean you had no lessons that day? The Hebrew minute is from Jeremiah 31:25, not a very familiar passage to me--I had to look it up! Hi, Freddie! Keep up the good work and I'll send you some pictures!

    • @Violinsforu2
      @Violinsforu2  Рік тому +2

      Yes, you are right! It is okay to do the edges, but not the inside and outside of the plates where the vibrations are. Thanks for finding the Hebrew Minute! Do you want tougher ones or easier ones? Thanks for sending pictures. Freddie will be quite pleased!

    Would you elaborate about the "sealer coat"? Are you using a spirit varnish with coloring added into the varnish? If so, what type of colorants do you use? Dyes, pigments?

    • @Violinsforu2
      @Violinsforu2  Рік тому +1

      Hi Brad, Thanks for commenting. My sealer coat is a spirit varnish which I make here in the shop from lac and if I want coloring, I will add gamboge resin. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

    Hi Cheryl, I have a question(s). Do all of the repairs on old violins influence how you make a new violin? What I mean is, do you make things in a certain way so that they might not need to be repaired in the future? Thank you for another in depth video.

    • @Violinsforu2
      @Violinsforu2  Рік тому +2

      Yes, in some way we do. Things like the sealer coat on the inside discourages bugs and just a little thicker around the edges holds off cracking a little longer. But if someone drops or sits on an instrument, there is not much we can do about it!!! Thanks for the great question! I hope you have a wonderful blessed week!
