    The 'Hebrew Minute'...what Fay says! The mystery violin has strong bones again, good job - almost ready for its next 100 years. Your new violin looks great. I really enjoyed seeing Mel's bees - Thank you Freddy! Stupidicus.

      Hi Tim! Thanks for commenting! We hope to have more bees this week again and I am wondering if Freddie is going to want me to video so he can talk to the bees! I guess we will see how it goes! I hope you have a wonderful blessed week!

    I didn't appreciate until now just how much physical effort is needed to carve a 'cello back. It looks to be quite a workout! I really liked seeing the bees handled so confidently and calmly. Special thanks for sharing that clip. Very best wishes to you for the coming week.

    Awesome video! The Hebrew minute sounds like Psalms. Let's see, how about Psalm 112:1? The new violin is looking beautiful! You need some helpers for your cello, and the mystery violin looks so much better than when you got it. Thanks, Freddie for showing us the bees! It was in the high nineties yesterday and today, then will cool down some. What a big change in the weather!

    Dear Cheryl! I used to always watch your videos, we were even in touch via email (maybe you remember me, I showed you many of my repairs). Hopefully I'll have more time soon to watch all the videos you've made so far.
    I have three questions: 1. What fishing line (thickness) do you use for bow hairing? 2. What exactly do you use as "primer inside the violin" (sealer coat)? 3. Do you also make videos in which you show your work process in detail, e.g. when fitting the bass bar (what to pay attention to, exact work steps, tips, etc.)? Kind regards, Zsolt

    • @Violinsforu2
      @Violinsforu2  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, Zsolt! I remember you! I have often wondered where you were and how you are doing. Did you know that your emails inspired Freddie's Corner, where viewers can send in pictures or videos of their projects? I would love to. include yours but I don't have that link. Please feel free to send your pictures.
      Regarding the questions, I am presently using a .35 mm line with a 30 pd test. I try to get something strong and not too thick or thin. The sealer coat is lac dissolved in alcohol but it needs a few months to dissolve and a little color. Regarding detailed instructions, I have a lot of ideas swirling around. One being offering a membership where you can access detailed videos but the time involved is crazy. I barely get the weekly video out. The easier option is a violin school. Another idea is a week or two of training to answer questions. Hands on and eye to eye are the best teachers. Hope that helps and I am so glad to hear from you again! Thank you for commenting! Hope you have a great week!

    When you add a sealcoat on the inside, how much does that change the ultimate tone of the violin?

    • @Violinsforu2
      @Violinsforu2  Рік тому

      It is hard to say but it seems to give the violin a bit more power. If the wood gets to soft it tends to die out a bit. Thanks for commenting Cosmin! Your hammer is still hanging out in the shop asking me to pick it up and use it! Hope you have a great week!

    Good morning Cheryl, I would just like to know why you didn't darken the spruce with asphalt but the maple pieces. Was the spruce dark enough already or does the asphalt do any damage to it?
    Thanks a lot and have a happy day.

    • @Violinsforu2
      @Violinsforu2  9 місяців тому +1

      Great question! I usually darken the whole instrument but I was trying to make everyone happy. Some had voted for asphalt and some had voted against it. This was the first time I only did part of the instrument and I was quite happy with the result. As long as the wood is sealed first, it does not do any damage. Thanks for asking and have a wonderful day!!!

      Thank you very much Cheryl, I have a project to change the look of an old Italian double bass that was badly refinished.
      I want to remove the excessive gloss with wool lane or rottenstone and oil, leave the original varnish even if it is deteriorated and coloring and then 1 or 2 coats of shellac. In a shop I saw the asphalt diluted in turpentine and I think it's the easiest procedure, I'm not a luthier I'm a bass player so....but no luthier wants to do it hehehehehe.

    Hello nice workCheryl, what iproduct is your sealer coat fort the inside of the mystery violin? . Is your asphalt mixed with shellac or oil? Thanks a lot and
    have a good day

    • @Violinsforu2
      @Violinsforu2  Рік тому +1

      The sealer coat is a spirit varnish from lac dissolved in denatured alcohol and the asphalt can only be dissolved with spike oil. Thanks for your comment.
