oh so they basically spent all their money trying to get people who don’t care about video games to watch a video game Esport instead of actual gamers 🤨
"Hey look, we're gonna stream this video game tournament" "Cool, on Twitch right? It's easier to attract the gamers there" "When did I ever say gamers are our target audience" Honestly it's kinda amazing how many CEOs completely fails to respect their own target audience.
I got to listen in, without their knowledge, on some of the meetings with the higher ups. I was cringing and angry from how poorly they knew nothing about gaming. I saw it coming.
When Akshon Esports is covering anything, I know I am going to learn so much more about what really happened behind the scenes!!! Looking forward to everything you will produce in the future!!!

H1Z1 was a survival game with a battle royale tacked on. When they split the teams, they actually effectively halved the development team, because battle royal modes generally doesn't promote loyalty to a game. People who liked the survival like myself felt abandoned so also stopped playing.
Fortnites PVE had the same miss treatment yet it still has people playing even if its a smaller cult fallowing I played everyday pretty much for a years and had nearly every item am still preying the game gets its big moment sooner then later

Great video man! I have a friend who was real big into King of the Kill and I fondly remember watching him play this new kind of game I had never seen before - the 100 player battle royale..
Despite all of the issues I swear it would've been fine if they didn't go to facebook. Same way Overwatch is struggling now because it's on UA-cam alone.
I remember chasing my ATV down a mountain, holding up in Caltloic Church with a Shottie and crawling around in the Lobby RIP H1Z1's what could have been playerbase
When will companies realise that these days twitch and UA-cam should be the only sites you consider streaming on no other platform has as many people who care about video games on it
Making an esport is not the answer. Other games that were in trouble thought the same thing but need to understand that if people aren't enjoying your game, it won't make a difference. People would just want to watch pros play and not pay for the game either.
H1 was an amazing game idk how much of an impact it would’ve had on other titles but it definitely could’ve had decent playerbase had it been managed better
They pushed H1Z1 esports way too late. In August 2017 They released the Combat update, which changed all game mechanics, Everyone hated it, and daybreak refused to revert it. Thats the reason H1Z1 Esports failed
As mentioned in the video, this was happening as LCS and OWL was doing something else instead of just relying on the community. This gave the impression of "esports as business" and pretty sure it wasn't just H1Z1 who failed in similar way (I think it was The Culling). Nowadays indies and big publishers takes more precaution before betting into esports.
Alot of companies just fail to understand that League of Legend is a unicorn in esport. As in its the only company that sucessfully forced a esport and end up big. LoL is like a unrealistic beauty standard that companies try to follow to only shot themselves in the foot.
I'd argue that, especially at the time battle royale was more of a "spectacle entertainment" than actual esports. I still think this is the case in NA, as titles like Fortnite dominate but have almost no competitive side now. Maybe someone from competitive PUBG or Apex (especially outside of NA) can explain what's different?
from what ive heard, its often considered too difficult to spectate and with some br games its a lot more on rng than skill, so its hard for a competitive community to develop
After seeing all the great stuff Jace Hall has done to rehabilitate Twin Galaxies' public image from the Billy Mitchell debacle, it's sad to see him fall with this league. Can't win them all I guess
Great stuff Jace Hall has done? I mostly remember him squashing potential controversies and raising the burden of proof required to challenge old scores to a pretty much impossible standard. Like when he personally stepped in to pretty much kill any further investigation into Triforce Johnson. Johnson wasn't as known a name as Mitchell or Rogers, but it was questionable how well TG could weather the claims against him in the wake of those bigger name scandals. Particularly since these claims went rather a bit further in questioning just how trustworthy any of TG's older records were.
I know you’re probably not going to see this, but could you please cover Persona 4 Arena and Ultimax? The game is such a random spinoff but also seems pretty good, and I’d love to see a video on it
Very well done. I was one of the players. Luckily me and my team demanded that our contracts say we get full pay if the league fell apart. We won the split 1 and went home with about 65k in 10 weeks of work =] Sad and happy ending. You didn't miss much. Their biggest mistake without a doubt was Facebook because they offered so much money for the exclusive rights. The worst thing about it was the Orgs didn't pay out a lot of the players, which a ton weren't from America, and a lot were left high and dry in Vegas. If you're into eSports and you sign a contract MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR ASS COVERED! The people who were screwed over the most were from the big orgs.

Honestly, it's just a repeat of the Paladins esport scene getting completely shafted when they switched over as well.
@@bladesofseven Nah they were just spitting BS when actually they just agreed on an exclusivity deal.
Sucks but most of them are so out of touch with their target audience

What else can you expect from someone that touches twin galaxies….willingly?

Damn Daybreak really fucked up H1Z1 and Planetside 2
I can’t think of a think a single game with a title that would become outdated faster than h1z1.

These videos are so informative that i can watch a whole video about a game ive never had any interest in
Are you guys still doing Overwatch League highlights?
What do you mean lack of voice chat. This game had voice chat day 1
When will companies realise that these days twitch and UA-cam should be the only sites you consider streaming on no other platform has as many people who care about video games on it
imagine not seeing videos 1 second after they come out, couldnt be me
Twin Galaxy was practically a scam
Just Survive was better than Rust. Baffles me that they put all their eggs in the BR basket.

who else slapped their forehead when they said "Facebook Gaming"?
I couldn't really hit my shots in that game lol
H1Z1 deserved everything they got for canceling. Just Survive.
The statement that FN or Apex might not have been as popular if it wasn't for this bland looking game made me ? a bit ngl

Really nice content ad asual!
Have you heard about Rocket Arena?
Can you talk about it in one of your cool videos? 😎 💪👍
A league does not lead to a successful game. A successful game leads to a league.
You can’t just throw a bunch of money at the problem and expect it to fix itself
Is creating an esports league the “jumping the shark” of video games
As mentioned in the video, this was happening as LCS and OWL was doing something else instead of just relying on the community.

From all that I am hearing, mismanagement is the parasite to any business idea.

There was a time when a lot of developers were trying to make their game the next big esport

BR esports are hard to watch
