The 16-17th century Scots. Used bedrolls like that. But they carried them as a over the shoulder duffle. Not as a back pack. They carried one big piece of fur skin for a bed matt. Love it.
I am part of the buckeye diaspora. This reminds me of my first bush camp out 60 years ago. We had no fire, a sandwich, tarp was shower curtain, bedroll had big safety pins, folding knife and canteen. Arrived at spot in the dark and that was it. Love the pot holder , working on my birds nests from following Bjorn. Enjoyed your video….that’s a knife !!!
I'M IN , glad to have found your channel . I'm from Mass. originally but I now live in Maine love it up here it's very peaceful and absolutely beautiful, congrats on 5000 subs
Nice and simple bushcraft - excellent. Something to try Bushcraft project - Boot stand: two tall sticks stuck in the ground, place your boots upside down on them then you don't get rain water in them.
Well, I have grown up living in deep woods and learned many useful lessons along the way. Your video here is the best example of bed roll , tools, and food use I have seen on the U tools! If you didn't have a frozen steak for later, how would you refill your meat reserve? Please let us know on another video. Possibly, the eyes of your potatoes could be cultivated by you in secret areas. Instead of tossing them, grow the into future food.
Jake Trent :If your expecting Rain you might want to cut 2 Forked Sticks about a foot longer than your boots are tall and stick them in the ground next to your Bed .This way you can hang your boots upside down to keep Rain and Creepy Crawlies out while you sleep.
Jake, great video. First one of yours I've watched. Now I'm a subscriber. I was taught when in the field in winter, don't drink anything an hour before hitting the rack. The older you get the more it makes sense. Trust me.
Got that same big blade from self reliance many years ago, don’t know why they don’t sell it anymore, use a fire hose for the sheath…great video…ty for sharing
Good video, I would add a Ruger MK II type of 22 pistol to my roll/kit. I'm out west and we have lots of mountain lions, coyotes and 2 legged varmints that might come around. And/or for survival hunting.
I'm in, I will soon be getting my Oil Tarp soon, thank you for making an informative educational video, take Care, stay healthy an God bless you and your Family always.
Have you ever tried gathering fine bushy branches and laying out a bed of them under your bed roll? You can make yourself a sprung mattress and add insulation at the same time. I like that pot hanger set up btw. I'll definitely give that a try, thank you
Good video, man! Really been enjoying your content. You should do an overnight with a super shelter. Really looking forward to making it to some classes in 2023. Also going to be getting my other UA-cam channel going. Would put that canteen set to good use. Take care and keep up the good work, bro!............So I guess I'm in.
Thanks Jake learned a lot from your overnight thanks for sharing thanks how you made your pot holder that was neat really got me ready to go camping buddy😊
I'm in! Great video! I would've liked to see a footage about you in the shelter and raining. I can't imagine me not knocking the tarp over myself while I'm sleeping.. (resulting water all around me :D)
I’m in. Good to see how Pathfinder work has planted good seeds to encourage others to train and get “dirt time”. The generosity of your time and experience is expressed through your enthusiasm and appreciated.
I really enjoy your video demonstrations showing vintage gear. Practical and simple. I always learn something new from the information that you share. In this one I am reminded that I need to find me one of the small cold handle skillets. When I was much younger, as a boy we used to spend many weekends in the woods near our home place. We would sleep on the ground and use a tarp and an old wool blanket in “cowboy camping” fashion. That’s really all we had to sleep on outdoors. We would pull our old Boy Scout canvas pack in for a pillow. I wish I still had that #574 pack. As I’ve grown older now I have more of an appreciation for vintage gear. Also I really enjoy using more handmade, handcrafted items, like my tomahawk forged by Mr. Mike Reed, my flint and steel striker forged by Dan Wowak, haversack by Jason Hunt, and my woodsman’s knife made by Mr. Justin Peden. That sure was a nice giveaway you had setup. I appreciate your willingness to share information and training with us. Thank you and best wishes. - Tennessee Smoky
I’m in. Very interesting. I liked you setup and the simplicity of it. Also, the fact that you can use the tarp to make a lean to shelter if you wanted to. I need to try your setup, and I also appreciate the work that you do put into these videos. Thanks again.
I'm in. I have the Pathfinder skillet and it is top notch. It is larger than the one you used here but it has a thick base to spread the heat, a folding handle and a lid. I definitely recommend it.
so...some consideration pointed out to your watchers as to....head higher than your feet....on an angle, slope or slight hill type area so if it does rain it won't pool around you....and one question...have you had much contact with animals while cowboy camping....if so what were they and what transpired out of them....thanks....a new fan....
I'm in. I liked the way you presented the bedroll. You covered this differently than others have and you also pointed out experience during rain plus a nature call along with preplanning for a night time nature call again in the rain. We often ignore potential negative effects of to get a lesson for doing so. Good job there Jake.
Good one bud. Those are some decent temps for Ohio these days. Given the choice of tater or steak, always go with steak. I've got the give away set so make sure it goes to a good home but that's a nice kit!
I’m in…should keep your setup rolled up like you would use it in case it’s raining when you stop…Put your boots and gear you want dry inside with you. Have fun stay safe.
Really enjoyed the video and knowledge. Lived in the city my whole life but have always loved the few times I’ve gone camping through the years, would love to do something like this soon. Cheers
I'm in - what a great giveaway - very generous and top notch quality!!!! Great video and awesome gear setup. Very simple yet effective. God bless and take care.
I bought four of those kits,so thanks anyway. I have the pathfinder 64 ounce water bottle cook kit and stove I made myself. Good luck to you and your page. I liked the hanger. It was great.
I'M IN !!! Great video Jake! The minute you covered with your tarp and wool blankets. I said to myself. Now you need to pee! :P Keep up the AWESOME videos! Thank you for sharing!!!
I'm in. That was a cool video. Waking up to have to pee is always bad thing in the woods when it's wet or damp , you got to bundle up just to walk to your spot . It was funny you said you just stood there on a corner of your bedroll . Anyway keep these videos coming brother !
Jake this was a great video. Concise, educational and relatable. Thanks for the efforts & work to create such good content...very much appreciated! Subbed.
That friction pot hanger has been saved in my mind. Thanks for the great tip!

Good video Jake. I'm stealing your line "if you are carrying more than that, you need more dirt time" I'M IN
Heard Dave say it at a class one day, stuck with me ever since😂

I was taught when in the field in winter, don't drink anything an hour before hitting the rack. The older you get the more it makes sense. Trust me.
I'm in. Good video. I've been wanting to start using a bedroll myself and become more minimalistic when hiking/camping.
Hey Jake, your pot hanging system is awesome. Simple and clever. Keep up the good work
Dude, great setup. Very clever overlaps on a few things. the loops with the bedroll and the pot hanger really stick out for me.
I'm in.
I really enjoy your style of smoothing it. I wouldn't mind seeing more minimalist, cold weather overnighters using wool blankets. Cheers!
I am in....Nice video. Great cowboy camp set up. Wish those tarps wasn't so expensive (yeah, I am a tight wad) Lol. Keep up the good work.
Got that same big blade from self reliance many years ago, don’t know why they don’t sell it anymore, use a fire hose for the sheath…great video…ty for sharing
If you ever wanna sell it you know where to find me😉

I'm in, great kit.
The nice thing about using natural fiber rope to tie up your bedroll, you always have extra bird nest material.
Exactly;)
I would be in, but live Australia. But that does look like an awesome kit. Absolutely loved the adjustable pot hanger, will be using that idea myself!
Mate it's just a "Swag." Give it a go. It's all we use when we go scrub.
I'm in. Very good video on camping out in the rain with minimal equipment.
Great job Jake, I think this might be your best viedo yet. Great information on the cowboy bed camp set up and adjustable pot hanging system.

I have the Pathfinder skillet and it is top notch. It is larger than the one you used here but it has a thick base to spread the heat, a folding handle and a lid. I definitely recommend it.
Most of us instructors hav that skillet, I’m going for a more vintage cook kit tho.
I'm in.....cowboy camping is a fun looking alternative to just tent or hammock camping
so...some consideration pointed out to your watchers as to....head higher than your feet....on an angle, slope or slight hill type area so if it does rain it won't pool around you....and one question...have you had much contact with animals while cowboy camping....if so what were they and what transpired out of them....thanks....a new fan....
I'm in ,I like the minimalist kit on an overnighter.
Wish you'd do more minimalist overnighters maybe old military surplus like Alice Harness kit.
I would definitely do that, just gotta piece together a kit
