You did a great job with your regular videos on Pixel 6a. At least it must have saved at least 30-40% Pre order cancellation for Google. Else, rumours (and quiet wierd ones) did hijacked the launch of this great phone for a normal user like me. Looking forward to my Pixel 6a.

I suggest that from now on they dob't send out "pre-released" phones to any of the reviewers out there until they can immediately download the newest updates as soon as they take them out of the box...or else this issue will just repeat itself once the 7 and 7 Pro come out. They lost a LOT od sales over the hate that went out the first day this thing hit the reviewers that have a huge megaphone on the Internet.
It's a bit of a head scratching decision for sure.
"Why would you send out phones for people to review and then it's running the April update?" Excellent question! This seems like a rather strange oversight.

They found bugs because of that reviews.
Software is one thing, hardware is another. It's wise to wait at least a month or two before buying a new model. All the initial fixes are in place and you're getting a better value.
Google said 6a's first update will be in August.
June images are out now for 6A (BlueJay). Google likely didn't release an update to it for the reviewers, as they would have to make the images live for everyone and they likely didn't want any updates out until release day. Plus, they didn't want some reviewers reviewing a phone on an older update and some newer; this keeps it consistent. The phones were likely packaged and imaged some time in April 2022.
If reviewers were the only ones with the phone and it's not released yet, I don't see that being a problematic thing for the updated software to be there already to download.
Excellent point. I'm hoping that the June image addresses some of these (ridiculous) complaints people have been making about the phone.
I'm still waiting on my own Human OTA update that keeps me from noticing the difference between 60 and 120 hz. 😂

Got my Pixel 6a today from Best Buy and it is running the April update still. Still setting it up,BDO haven't gotten a chance to run any updates
here a google nexus/pixel user and fan for years and i can just say: They just don't care, really, every new pixel is like one good thing, 3 bad things or removed or lagging

Do you know if they used the same modem in the 6a as the 6/6 pro? And do you know if the 13 beta has any effect on the 6/6 pro's cell service? Wanted to ditch this s22 for the 6a but worried the service might be as bad as the 6 was on TMobile. I haven't seen any reviews addressing this issue yet.

I just want you to know that I really appreciate your videos on the 6A. I have mine ordered and think that I am one of the ones this phone is made for. I am going from the 3A to this one! I have been very satisfied with this phone until the battery wants to die halfway into the day.

I got my Google Pixel 6a today. The fingerprint sensor takes a second, so what? The display is smooth and quick with no choppinness or lag.

Hi Adam, got my pixel 6A today in India. So far all ok. No heating indoors, have not tried outdoor. Good battery life (used wifi only). Wanted to check a few things. 1. Is it possible to change the shape of folder to rectangular shape by default on home screen without using 3rd party launcher or app. (it is circular by default when I put two or more apps together and only after I tap on folder it opens in rectangular shape). 2. Is there a way to tap to shut screen. Would be good to have a tips and tricks video covering these and more. Thanks.
I don't think you can change the icon shape but I have messed with it. And sadly no. I haven't seen a tap to sleep feature.

Pixels have never really been a polished product. I expect these hiccups at this point because of their track record and apparently their most recent moves 🤦🏻♂️

I just updated my phone today. It's running on Android 12. One problem I'm having is I don't have a magic eraser option. I was in with Google Rep and it didn't get fixed after everything he told me to try. He told me to wait until update. I updated and still no magic eraser.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Fortunately, I'm buying the Pixel 6A mainly as a "beta tester" device. I'm planning on immediately enrolling my Pixel 6A in the Android 13 beta program as soon as I set it up. 🙂
Hopefully they update it soon. Sadly the 6A js not recognized as able to "opt in" to the beta yet. I just checked again. Nothing yet

I just spent the last hour or so setting up my new Pixel. Two minor complaints I have is that you can't move the Google Search bar on the home screen (I prefer it on the top of the page, it's now permanently on the bottom), and you can't get rid of the date on the top of the home screen. I use a weather and time widget that already has the date on it, so I don't need two dates on the screen. 😠
Yes. That is very annoying. Especially for a platform that is built around choice and customization.

they wait for people to beta testers for the pixel 6a... instead of paying people, developers, test it as beta testers.. they release it as complete and final and wait for all the input of reviewers and only then start fix it...
with video reviews companies think its ok to release unfinished products or defective products and just hope nobody notices their shady method!

Can 6a owners opt in to the Android 13 beta? I'm on a Pixel 4a (5G) running Android 13 beta on my phone. If 6a users update to 13 it might have all those fixes. My 4a is running fine with 13 beta
It's not open yet. To my knowledge yes but will have to keep an eye on it, unless there's something I don't know.

Just received and setup my preorder (in Sage)...Looks great but is on the April 5 software and says it's up to date. Why Google, why...
And big edit...Just tested finger print unlock and my unregistered right thumb unlocks it immediately. I only registered my left thumb when setting it up!!! WTF Google...this is on a retail launch product, not a pre-release review unit. Someone(s) in Google land should be thrown out on their arse.
Hopefully the software update fixes this. I've heard some people saying it's available for them. It's not for me. I expect August 1st update to fix this.
@@TechOdyssey I switched to a Verizon SIM from a T-Mobile SIM, and was then able to update to the June software drop. The unregistered finger still worked until I deleted the one registered finger and re-entered it. After that, the opposite thumb stopped working. Otherwise, the phone works beautifully. It's fast and responsive and battery life seems great. And I'm coming from a pixel 5A... So I see no problem with the screen refresh rate. In fact, the screen looks very nice.

No. They're pretty much the same
People need to realize that Google ships beta phones on release. Pixel phones don't show their true colors until at least 2 months after official release. This is why they can't make any headway against Apple and Samsung. Zenfone 9 depending on availability will give the Pixel line a real run for it's money.

Appreciate the very clear explanation and cautions. Google is TERRIBLE at marketing their hardware products. They think like engineers who will happily release a somewhat incomplete product, knowing that later updates will be coming sometime down the road. A smarter, customer-focused company would say "we want the customer to be able to use the phone with all of its core features as soon as they take it out of the box. Ideally, we don't even want them to spend time downloading an update. We want to minimize any features that might not be available or which might require an update. And we want any critical updates to be made ready as soon as possible after the device has been released."
Google is confident that they can fix reported problems in a new device. A smarter company is clear about how well a device should work, communicates that vision to everyone working on that device, and makes certain that objectives have been met before the product is released.

I'm not sure why they didn't have at least one or two updates ready to go out of the box. I guess they decided to just do one big update at one time?
The update seems to be rolling out today somewhat but it's still only June, not July. I don't have it yet.
So this sounds like the third flop in a row from Google... If they don't get it right with pixel 7, Google should just get out of the phone making business

I have never had any of them overheat unless I'm out on 90+ degrees weather recording on 4K60

I don't think they will. Android 13 is much better then Android 12, based on my experience with the beta. I think also the Tensor 2 will be a better chip.

@TechOdyssey I have a question. Why do you never talk about iPhone bugs? Also, you don't check every time an update is released for the iPhone. Do you basically think the iPhone is bug free? Are all bugs for android phones?
Because I don't stay up to date in iPhones and their bugs. I can only cover so many phones. I almost exclusively review android phones.

I've always been Samsung all the way but want a change, Really want to like this phone, most of the concerns some are mentioning don't bother me, but slow charging (nearly 2 hrs) and questionable video quality are holding me back. May wait for the 7.
Pixel 6a 0-100% charge at 18w took me 1hr and 50min. It’s not fast.
Phone has good battery life, just charge it overnight. Boom, problem solved

@Benjamin Jagun it's all subjective I guess, I'm only going by some of the reviews I've seen on YT on the 6a over the last week mentioning questionable video quality, but tbh it's not popping up on many reviews as a negative, I don't have hands on experience of the video quality on any pixel phone especially not the 6a as it's not available to the masses yet, I'm still rocking a S9 so really any new phone would perform better, either way best part of 2 hrs to charge doesn't work for me, I live life on the edge I want to be sure 15mins of charge will get through the Evening or last long enough for that 1 hr car ride using Google maps, if a software fix could speed up charging I'd definitely consider it, Other than that the phone looks great.

Is it true the 6a has a Subpar 60HZ screen? I've heard it runs at 30HZ sometimes maybe even lower. Have you experienced that?

60 Hz is 60 Hz there is no good or bad 60hz and it's not going to suddenly run at a lower refresh sometimes for no reason.

It's possible the majority of people complaining about the 6a haven't even seen it in person. I just took delivery of my 6a, I traded an old 4a. I have been using a 13 Pro Max since December 2021 and now I'm ready to switch to the 6a. I understand everyone needs are subjective and this meets my needs, thanks.

I think if manufacturers are going to send out phones with pre release software They should put more conditions on reviewers like a clear statement that the phone and soft are pre lease and this a 1st impression, not a product review. Reviews s/b on what the consumer can actually go buy post launch.

Well I just picked mine up today at target. Got a $50 gift card when I got it so that was nice. I like a lot of stuff about it at the moment and I haven't had a single problem that anyone on UA-cam has said, believe me I was looking for problems. If you're someone that's looking for a very very solid phone for a great price...go get one.

@@Dakoya_ it hasn't gotten hot it dose get a little worm, keep in mind I have had the phone for 4 hours at this point so it's still optimizing for my use and will probably do so for 2 weeks, perfectly normal.

I guess Google has lost the focus on her customers. Im not sure, but i think they sit in her offices and think "Hey, we are google. The will love us about that phone". Its the same way as android wear is working, Google dosent like to change the way because in her mind they are the best.

Outdated software shouldn't be a problem if the software itself is stable, meaning the device should work on day 1 without any serious bugs. Covid must have really impacted the development on Android 12 that Google pretty much had to patch everything to work. I think in a previous video, you mentioned other OEMs had issues with Android 12 as well. Like OnePlus, where they had to reverse an update since it had issues with so many people's phones.
So many problems with Android 12, it seems.
Android 10 was probably their last good OS update. Hopefully Android 13 goes back on track to being, well, reliable.
The software is stable. But there were quite a few fixes and a few important enabled features that happened between April and July. Android 13 seems lightyears ahead of Android 12, thankfully
It's not the reviewer's job to mention the pixel hasn't been updated. It's on the company to make sure they send out updates. I feel like you criticize other reviewers for voicing their opinion, and most of the people you mention criticize the hell out of other brands as much as they do for Google.
How can you review a phone and not know or mention that the software is months out of date, especially before the phone is available.

I don't have a problem with reviewers mentioning updates. I actually prefer for them to actually show what monthly patch it's on.
