    Have been a DVC member for just over a year. Made 3 trips in 2023 and have 3 trips scheduled for 2024 and have never had a problem booking the resort we wanted to stay at. The key is booking at the 7/11 month windows. If you can’t plan in advance, probably not for you.

    Always enjoy your shows everyone. You can make even blah day turn out fun. Your Disney knowledge is invaluable and I so enjoy listening. I must add that when I’m at work and involved in any zoom calls and they introduce us; I have a habit of saying “Hey Now!” in my cheeriest voice. I do get some funny looks….😆. Sending love from Ohio…

    "Walking a reservation" is also a phrase inside the Disney Hotel Operations. When a hotel was oversold completely, we would "walk" those reservations to other resorts, usually an upgrade of some sort (value to moderate, moderate to deluxe, deluxe to "more" deluxe). This would also happen if there was an unexpected maintenance issue with a block of rooms, flooding etc.

    Love the show. Been a DVC member for 20 plus years and realized I 'm not using my membership to it's full potential. It is nice to find a show that promotes DVC. There is a lot of negative stuff out there. Have never heard about "walking". would like to learn more about that. Didn't know you could stalk a date. I always thought if it was not available it would not become available. If I couldn't find the dates I wanted I would call customer service and turn my points into "reservation" points and take the hit. Didn't realize you could rent points. Anyway after watching several episodes my eyes have been opened. Thank you

    We just finished an 11 night trip to WDW where we did split stays for 3 resorts (AK-Kidani x3, CC Cabins x3, RR x5). Other than the Poly Bungalows last Oct, we had not stayed at a WDW resort, so this is a great way to try as many resorts as we can to help determine which we like best. We learned, no more 3 resort split stays. Disney made this very convenient, but we didn't like living out of our suitcases through the first 2 resorts. I've been given strict instructions...no more than one move per trip. Lesson learned. And within 3 days of returning, we started the purchase of 2 AK contracts with Derek and help from Amy with the financing. Love the content that this channel provides! Thanks for the consistent, very helpful education that you each provide to this audience.

    Interesting thing happened to me. I met with 3 DVC guides over at BCV as I wanted a room tour. I mentioned the term "ROFR" and spoke it as you do in this video and none of them had any idea what I was talking about. I had to spell the whole thing out for them and one said they had been a DVC guide for 20+ years and had never heard it spoken like that before.

    We just did a split stay at SS and BLT. We had 2 days at SS where we landed at MCO just before midnight. It was nice staying at a cheaper point resort. Two days also meant we didn’t have to wake up early to move to the next resort. We’ve done the same thing for this fall with a stay at RIV, but this time we’re staying in a tower studio before our stay in a deluxe studio.

    Great content as usual. I learned what walking a reservation was the hard way when I couldn’t get my home resort at exactly 11 months out, but thankfully my waitlist came through for me. I am a stalker but also a planner. Love to get on there just to see what’s available. I am one that doesn’t mind split stays. They work well when you pack like and live out of your suitcase, which I can do. My husband isn’t a fan of those though. He wants to unpack and relax and one place. We have got to stay at all the wdw deluxe resorts except Riviera this way, so that one is on my bucket list. Hopefully can snag a few nights there sometime soon!

    Just for completeness - there was no online booking for the first few years. (Does anyone know when it started?) so you had to make a reservation by calling Member Services as well as if you wanted to modify. Of course, confirmation came by mail!

    Looking at the concept of walking: there is also the existence of guaranteed weeks that keeps some rooms off the availability list. Also you have to watch out if you need to bank and borrow points to make a walking a planned reservation. If you borrow points to have enough points to WALK a reservation and you then cross your use year date in the process, then the borrowed points will not be able to walk with you past the use year anniversary.

    Jeff needs to buy a house first. Before buying more DVC points. I will have my house paid off behind Levi’s Stadium. In less than 5 years. That is when I will try to convince my wife. To purchase DVC points. We already use our WorldMark Timeshare to transfer in to DVC. I find it very easy to transfer in to OKW and SSR. I was on a two year waitlist for the Kidani, Animal Kingdom Lodge. I did get a 2 bedroom at Kidani. We saved over 8 thousand dollars.😮

    Looking at some of the Facebook groups a lot of people seem to buy in without really understanding use years, banking deadlines or the difficulty they might have when having multiple contracts with different use years. Amy briefly mentioned about transferring points betweem your own contracts but didn't go into to much detail on that or that if you have same use year that you don't have to transfer and can just combine your points at 7 months (assuming contracts are for different resorts).

  • @janett253

    At one time I was very serious about buying DVC. But I did my research with costs, maintenance fees (yearly fees) and most importantly being able to book the resort I want for the dates I want. It's pretty much impossible. In fact I was on a Disney vacation and a DVC member called me while I was in my room. I explained how difficult it is to get the resort I want for the dates I want. He practically hung up on me because he knew I was right. Then today when you guys talked about walking your reservation ( which is essentially holding a reservation until it opens up) Leaving a reservation booked so someone else cannot book that resort. Sounds pretty unfair to me and is why it is so difficult to get a resort you want and dates you want. I'm so glad I never purchased DVC. But I enjoy your show anyway. Reminds me why I didn't buy.

      I’ve always booked the stay I wanted, and I usually stay in studios (hardest to book). I just came back from a nine night Polynesian, GF split stay and neither are a home resort of mine. The discounted cash rate for that stay would’ve been $6k with tax. If you intend on staying on property at least every few years, owning DVC (resale) beats cash or even DVC rentals in terms of cash savings.

    Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! As a new member (via DVCResale Market), appreciate all the lessons and knowledge transfer.
    One thing I have been interested about is modifying at the 7 month window. If my current year points are tied up at my home resort and I see another reservation elsewhere, do I need to cancel and try to rebook - risking losing both reservations? Is there another way? Can I book the second reservation with the next year’s points then cancel the first reservation and swap the points back? Any other way?

    • @stevenfields8968
      @stevenfields8968 3 місяці тому

      The actual contract purchased direct from Disney has a set week and room type at the resort written into it. When buying resale they are few and far between as they were not always offered and have only been available for certain resorts. (Grand Floridian, Riviera, DLT, Copper Creek, Aulani, Poly, probably the other new ones too).
      I believe there is a 10% surcharge in points added to the contract to get the privilege. So a 100 point contract, would have to be purchased at 110 points. If you use your week it costs you the 110. If you don’t use it, you get the full 110 to use as normal. Not sure of the rules on when you have to opt out of your week.
      They have been called Fixed week, Favorite week, and Guaranteed week.

    We had a trip planned in Aug 22, but I got COVID the week before. The points went into holding, but we also had a reservation in Jan 23 at another DVC resort. The system let me go in and modify Jan23, and used my holding points for those same nights. Is that a glitch, or am I just not understanding the holding procedures?

    I also wish there was a way to donate points. We are in a situation where we have points that must be used by Sept. 30/24 and we will very likely not be able to use them. We are from Canada and have been advised to not rent them out if possible. Some kind of official DVC donation program or exchange for merchandise or gift cards would be nice.

    Walkers are like the runners at the park early in the morning. they skate around the rules to ruin experiences for everyone. I am sad that you guys seem to unanimously support the activity.

    • @DVCFan
      @DVCFan  3 місяці тому +10

      I'm not sure any of us claimed to support the activity, however, the blame should not fall on those that choose to do this. DVC allows this to occur and created the system in which it can. As long as that is the case, those that do not know about this are left behind and at a disadvantage when booking which is why we felt the need to highlight this as part of the show.

    • @matthewnelson5699

      business renters are doing it along with us which adds to the issue. If you like to stay in the most popular room you have to accept that a lot of people want it too. You either wait and battle the luck amongst hundreds of parties or you take advantage of the obvious effort. Walking also does not always work because rooms often fall off breaking the chain of rolling to the next day. It obviously is easier to just casually walk into booking the cheapest studio at Wilderness Lodge during christmas but good luck.... lol the majority is not walking for weeks. It is mostly just demand. I believe most people complain because they just miss out and blame walkers, they are not inclined to try based on the rules, and/or struggle with the concept of extreme demand. Frustrating it does not work perfectly the way we want but the product has flaws.... this flaw is hardly a major issue compared to what it could be if they take away the freedom.

    • @mekamiya
      @mekamiya 3 місяці тому +1

      I am bothered by some posters who have 20+ guaranteed reservations to rent out. Obviously renting for profit. I wonder if those types ever get ‘caught’
      I have never walked , but then again i havent had to …..
      IMO the mass renters are worse than the walkers unless theyre the same
