Long Beach is only like 5 miles/minutes further than John Wayne, and well worth it!!

One of my favorite topics! Thanks for covering. We are planning our third DL-DCA trip for after Aulani. Sadly, I was unable to snag DVC rooms for our stay, so staying cash. Would love a panel discussion of Aulani, please. ❤

As a DLH DVC owner in CA, it works both ways. I too am contemplating the unthinkable, a trip to WDW after a poor experience 20 yrs ago(went 3x). Points & this channel made it easier to decide to mix things up and give WDW another try.

Derek, Blue Bayou is where you get the Monte Cristo (can also get it at Cafe Orleans but Blue Bayou is better IMO) but they only serve it at lunch and it’s not on the menu anymore, but you can still get it. it’s on my list of have to eats every trip!

Disneyland local here :) I'm found this video so interesting and fun to watch! I agree with so many of your tips/tricks mentioned. WDW is def my vacation spot and I'm so happy I have DVC so I am able to make it to Florida. I'm definitely a local that goes to Disney to destress and I've had days I just went to go eat and ride a couple rides and go home. I feel like DVC's presence is light at Disneyland and I remember when I tried to get my magic band keeper at the booth in DCA the cast member was surprised I was a local. Also the cast members don't regularly ask if you are with DVC for a discount and they did all the time at WDW.

I second this review (as another Disneyland local). I went last night (Sunday), as I was driving btw San Diego and LA. I arrived at 7:30p, had a great, quick service dinner, rode Pirates and Buzz (both only had 5 minute waits), saw a bit of the fireworks show and left. All in, I was in the park for probably 2-2.5 hours, and had a great time… and didn’t feel like I needed to see/do everything. At the same time, I acknowledge that there are many things that WDW does better - chief among them, EPCOT and AK… and DVC resorts. As a LA local, the oddest question I receive from DVC CMs is “are you excited about staying at [insert DVC CA property]!?” Quick no! As a matter of personal opinion, why would I spend my points at this “resort” (aka refurbished 1950 hotel) when I live 45 minutes up the road? I’d rather save the points for a true full resort experience at WDW or Aulani!

I’ve been wanting to go to Disneyland for a while now, but this show has me researching it on a whole different level now. I have to get my husband on board to at least go once! We are in NC so Disney World has always been our go to. Also, we’ve been watching DVC Fan for a couple years now, and that’s what sparked our interest in DVC and the reason we bought into it to begin with, but I will say that this panel is the best that’s ever been on this show! The chemistry you guys all have together is amazing, and I hope it never changes. We just love you guys and enjoy watching every single show! So I promise if we ever get to meet any of you, I’m getting hugs and all the pictures 🤪 We already got to meet Derek and that was so amazing! Hope to meet the rest of you one day! Thanks for a great show!

Just comparing by ride count - Disneyland (2 parks) 52 rides - WDW (4 parks) 59 rides. Obviously didn't count the water parks :)

Completely agree...Disneyland's Fantasyland puts MK to shame. One ride I would say is better in Florida is Splash Mountain (and probably will carry over to Tiana's Bayou Adventure, given that they are keeping the same ride system and track layout in both locations).

What a fantastic chat! My mom couldn’t board the Matterhorn Bobsleds because pregnant women weren’t allowed. That was my first Disneyland experience. And as a SoCal native, it’s been Disneyland for me ever since. Countless visits as a media member and simply a paying AP. I’ve done just two WDW trips and, thanks to DVC Rental Store, spent a birthday in a Poly bungalow during one of those trips. None of the rides at WDW compare to those at the original. But nothing here compares to Animal Kingdom. Anaheim never looks tired; on both trips, Florida did in places. Grog Grotto’s layout allows the skippers to interact with guests in ways they can’t at Enchanted Tiki Bar. And while Orange Bird has found a place in my heart, I still don’t get Figment. Oh, and there’s something so special about staying at the Grand and walking right in to DCA. Great show!

At the 33:31 mark when talking about great use of lands and bad use of lands. Can we all agree that Pandora World of Avatar is massively under utilized because of the park our constrictions there. Such a great, amazing place with the new movies you wish you could expand and do more. Unfortunately, the best part about being in that park land is being there at night and the park is never open past seven or 8 PM and certain times of the year the sun doesn’t even set until 9 o’clock.

Grew up going to Disneyland for several decades now. 2020 converted over to WDW.
Back in the day, APs had the option to add annual parking to their pass, which was a great option even for those getting the So Cal tiered passes. Now, only the highest tier pass gets parking and there’s no longer an add-on option.
Also, Downtown Disney has a parking fee, minimum $10, with a 3 hour and 5 hour option depending on the kind and amount of spend in DTD.

Long Beach is a great option. A 3 day park hopper was not quite enough to have repeat the things we liked and hit all the unique rides. We even skipped Galaxies Edge, Grizzly Run, and some of the dark rides (due to long lines in Fantasyland. It was super crowded and hotter than usual while we were there in August of 2022. We skipped many rides but did watch World of Color twice and repeat a few favorites (Radiator Racers, Incredicoaster). We had one sit down meal a day so that did take some time. We did hop back and forth between the parks. I did buy genie plus 1 day to maximize our time

Real simple for me, the best is the original. So for parks it is easily Disneyland over Disney World, but for DVC it is Disney World over Disneyland. For the record we own at both.

My first trip to Disneyland was in the early 1960s so have watched that resort grow and change over the decades. Have been to WDW multiple times since the early 2000s My favorite park at WDW is Animal kingdom followed by Epcot because there is very little overlap with the DLR at these parks. My least favorite WDW park is the Magic Kingdom because, IMO, it lacks the magic found at Disneyland. What I enjoy at WDW that doesn’t exist in DLR is the variety of resorts to explore. Resort hopping is fun. If I had to choose one resort to go to the rest of my life it would be DLR, but fortunately I don’t have to choose!

DCA has THE best nighttime show with World of Color! Other local non-Disney attractions include the Japanese Tea Gardens, Huntington Library, Griffith Observatory and a complete replica of Independence Hall. AND if you've come out to California, make time for some natural beauty with Yosemite and a visit to the Redwoods. Don't forget the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco!

As a DVC owners, we used to be able to book at Grand California with little problem. It’s been 8 years since we have been able to book a 5 day trip regardless of time of year. Strictly speaking DVC, WDW has more options and availability. We love the Grand Californian resort and Disneyland/DCA but if you everything is booked at 7 months out, it doesn’t matter. WDW as a whole has more DVC options to offer in terms of themes and styles and has lower point options.

Thank you guys, for this episode! I'm a west coaster. Grew up in Anaheim going to Disneyland at least once a year...then moved north and went less often. Life circumstances kept us away from Disneyland from 2008 to 2023. Went last year and fell in love! We bought 200 pts direct at VDH in January. We've never been to Disneyworld...but will be soon!
All of this to say that some other DVC podcasts downplay Disneyland...and some have downright trash talked Disneyland (won't be listening to that one again). Appreciating that you guys recognize and celebrate both WDW and DLR as their own unique experiences. Disneyland is AWESOME and I'm sure WDW is too, can't wait to see for ourselves. Thanks for the Disneyland love in this episode.

I save thousands of dollars by trading my WorldMark by Wyndham Timeshare into DVC. By using either RCI or Interval International Exchange. The future Disneylandforward in Anaheim, California will raise demand for my Timeshare. Why? One of the areas to that new expansion will be directly across the street from my WorldMark Timeshare. Not only will it be directly across the street. The main entrance to that new expansion will also be directly across the street. We all know that ol’e real estate saying, “location location location”. The current cost on the secondary market for my timeshare is very inexpensive. You should also do a cost comparison with a WorldMark Timeshare. It is easy for me to do a trade in with OKW & SSR every year. The other DVC Resorts are much tougher to get in to. I have stayed at the Kidani, Animal Kingdom Lodge. I was on a two-year waitlist for that Resort.

Amy, you would not believe how easy LGB airport is. It's like you're arriving at your own personal terminal. And this is coming from a SNA loyalist. Try it out if the price is right! JetBlue or Southwest, I believe. And yes make a day for Knott's - totally different experience. But time it so you're there during one of the awesome festivals (think of it as poor man's Food & Wine). I would not bother with Universal Hollywood - Orlando is much better IMO. Same with Sea World - yours is better.

I feel like I am missing out when I am at Disneyworld. I really miss Cars Land, Matterhorn and the Indiana Jones Ride. I do overall like the food better at Disneyworld. Except for Mexican food. The Mexican Restaurants are much better in California. There is much more to do at Disneyworld. Than there is to do at Disneyland. I was under 6 months old my first time at Disneyland. That was back in 1957. I started remembering Disneyland, California back in 1962. I was about 6 years old at that time. You could really feel the Disney Magic back than. We had a strict dress code. We could not wear tennis shoes and no jeans. My parents made sure we had a haircut before our trip. I currently live behind the SF Forty Niners Levi’s Stadium. I will sell my house in less than 5 years. We plan on purchasing a house close to Disneyland, California. Don’t get me wrong. We love Disneyworld! I would just miss Yosemite, Lake Tahoe and the Redwoods in California. I can’t live in a place where there are no hills and mountains, full time. The air is cleaner in Florida. You do have the warmer weather in Florida. Our year round weather in California is better. We have a higher homeless rate and a higher crime rate in California. Our Real Estate home prices in California is higher.

The QS food is better at DL over MK, but overall, WDW has MUCH better food/dining over DL by miles. Most of their versions of the rides are better with the exception of vanilla Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, and Classic Splash Mountain (RIP). New Land to New Land: I’d take Cars over Toy Story any day. But they need to stop having the same lands at each park, I want different offerings between the DL and WDW from now on.

I live in CO and vacation to DL and WDW. I visit DL 2-4X yearly and WDW 1X every 18-24 months. Orange County Airport (John Wayne Airport -SNA) is my first choice, and Long Beach is second. LAX is a NO NO NO for me!!! Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotels are just as good if not better than staying on property. They are way less expensive and closer to the parks (except for GCH). The staff at Good Neightbor hotels are excellent, rooms beautiful - I am a big fan! I stayed at Disneyland Hotel for the first time in November 2023. I was planning on buying DVC pts. But after visiting the property, I will not be buying DLH. The rooms were gorgeous, BUT the staff was crabby and the security gate to get into Downtown Disney was crazy long! After a long day at the parks, walking back to the hotel was awful. DL Magic Kingdom is the best! Their Fantasyland is so much better! But WDW's Tomorrowland is excellent (the one in DL needs to be bulldozed down or get a total redo or rethemeing). DISNEYLAND PLEASE FIX TOMORROWLAND!

Disneyland rules! I live 20 minutes from Walt Disney World now and have been going there my whole life, but I’d trade most of it for Disneyland park alone. So many more things to do at Disneyland Park than at Magic Kingdom Park.

I agree; if I’m going 3-4 days, Disneyland hands down. Beyond that, Disney World. Disneyland just has so many things to do in that one park, and I feel like it has the best version of every ride over World with the exception of Splash. Both are great vacations, but if going for one day (or a few days), no question it’s Disneyland!

I love DL. It is easier to navigate. I love the extra touches you don't see in WDW. Character sightings are more fun. If seeing characters are more important than standing hours in line to snap a picture, DL is your place. Galaxy Edge is different in that if you want a picture with a character BE READY. While the characters will stop for pictures, it is not the main focus. With so many roaming characters everywhere, it is easier to get a picture.
Magic bands are better in WDW. You can use your MB as a room key and download ride photos effortlessly.
Cafe Orleans is the best restaurant in DL. Their Monto Cristo sandwich is to die for.
There is plenty of things to do in California besides DL.
Wish DL would invest in drone shows. My last trip DL resulted in no Christmas fireworks show in 4 days due to high winds.😢
