  • Anschutz 1761 MSR and CZ 457 MTR
It has been a while since I have really posted a solid comparison video. Winter has not been kind to getting out with rimfire. Cold (below 40F), rainy and windy has been the season. However today we had a break It was reasonable weather. It was about 60F with a 5-10 mph wind coming consistently from 6 o’clock.
The CZ 457 MTR and the Anschutz 1761 MSR are of a similar layout to me. The stock designs are similar in shape and function. Both are wood stock with a pistol stye grip. The 1761 is intended to be shot standing and held (silhouette shooting) and has grip surfaces applied, while the 457 MTR is checkered wood. Both are magazine fed. Both mount a score similarly. There is a difference in trigger with the stock CZ 457 MTR needing a tweak of a new spring (my other 457 MTR) or in this case a Jard 3oz trigger. Both are designed to have interchangeable barrels.
These were set up similarly shooting from my Bald Eagle front rest with a Protektor #13 rear sitting on a bag rider to remove the impact of any cast-off in a stock. I shot a video of the basic setup which is found on my site as well. A review of the Bald Eagle is also located there. I have a Sinclair front bag rider on both rifles mounted in a similar location.
I was shooting at 50 yards using a single lot of Lapua Center-X. I was shooting ARA Factory class targets. While the Anschutz 1761 is not a factory class rifle due to cost it is a standard production rifle. The CZ 457 MTR is a popular choice for ARA Factors class competitors. The CZ 457 MTR is about half the cost of the 1761 MSR.
The results so far suggest the 1761 MSR continues to outperform the MTR but not by a large margin. There is less shot-to-shot dispersion with the 1761 and flyers are not as extreme. The 1761 saw little challenge with the factory class targets.
Is the increase in performance enough to warrant a person to get a 1761? Well, for me, it is. Whether that is the case for others would be their personal judgment. At its price point for an accurate totally stock factory rifle, it would be difficult to beat for me.

My CZ 457 MTR 20" just loves SK rifle Match, and my Anschütz 64 was the the same. And my Anschütz 64 cost me approx $150 back in the 90s.

Greetings from Texas! I enjoyed your video comparing the Anschutz and the CZ MTR. The targets went about like i expected. I have a CZ 457 MTR as well as Anschutz 1727 F with a 23 inch HB and Anschutz 1710 20 inch HB. I recrowned my CZ and glass bedded the stock and it is much closer to my Anschutz rifles, but, the Annie's are much more forgiving overall. Thanks again for the videos, you have a new subscriber.

I have both and a Walther UIT from decades ago. The Walther is my "go to" when I want to get really serious with hitting bulls.

I also have the same two rifles. My results at the range on the same targets mimicked your results. I also feel the same way about the two rifles, love the CZ and the Anschutz, even though twice the price. I also have a Kimber 82 that shoots right with my Anschutz. Thank you for the video! Jack

Feel good about hat. We have three mtrs at the match. All are terrible. 2200 is a great score with them.

My gun was sent back twice by the previous owner. I thought I could gut it and find the issue. Turns out we all have bad barrels. Can’t change that out for factory class.

The video shows you shooting left hand guns but the photo showing the guns side by side are right hand guns…you must have a good collection of Benchrest guns

@rickberg9011 I am shooting right hand guns. It is the camera angle and position. It is just the way the Longshot Marksman system works.
      I have 3 main rifles a 1761 Annie and 2 CZ 457 MTR's.

Hello, I discovered your channel, subscriber number 284. I also shoot, with Tikka, savage 93 and Ruger precision. I would like your opinion. I'm thinking of buying a CZ457 but I don't know which barrel is best, its length etc. Also I like the Anshoutz it seems precise. I forget the Bergera, it seems capricious. My question is for precision shooting (bench rest) that she suggests to me. Excuse my English I am a French Canadian. Congratulations on your videos, your content is varied and precise, thank you.

Welcome! There are a couple of things here. I have only used CZ 457 MTR rifles. So I am not sure how they compare. As I have 2 of them I am a bit biased there. They are 20.5" or something. A lot of BR people like longer. I try to stay with a barrel length of 20+ but there is no object reason for my choice. I also like bull, or heavy, barrels. It is an ascetic decision though I like the MTR chamber and think heavier barrels tend to be more stable. Barrels are a bit of a lottery. Like rimfire ammo better barrels increase your odds but are no guarantee.
