Laser Training 10-Yards: Laser Academy and TP9sfx
I am having trouble getting to the range due to work and holiday time constraints, as well as kids sporting events. I was using my pellet pistol, but that was deemed "too noisy" for certain times of the day for the family. I am working out how to make videos of this process, so this is a new format with this one.
When I was shooting a lot more centerfire pistol, I was using a laser system and other systems indoors. These are very quiet depending on how loud you set the device volumes. The sound effects help keep things interesting though, so I try not to be totally silent.
Here I am using my Canik TP9sfx with a Freedomsmith trigger and Holosun optic. I am indoors shooting 10 yards. The 10 ring is 3/4" and the 9 ring is about 1 1/2". I ad shooting about 2-inch groups at this range right

P17 10-Meter Practice: Week 01 Check-In
Переглядів 3916 годин тому
While it has been a busy week there were several practice sessions over the last week. Some directly with the 17, and with my laser training rig. The question, of course, is does this help at all? Do the groups look better? Do I score more hits? The rig is a Beeman P17 in .177 with a Red Dot optic. I am shooting at 10-meters 2-handed offhand. I am shooting AA 8.4 grain Field Diablo. These are u...

I have been using Mantis Laser Academy for about 2-3 years now. I have 12,000 to 15,000 through it now. If you watch closely you will see there are almost 12K through it now with the unspecified pistol selection. I have not used it much for about 5 months as I have been outdoors, and it shows! It is a nice system to practice with at home. The downside is I must use a centerfire rig, here my Can...

How accurate do you feel this is? at 5:40 it's clear your laser hits 11oclock in the 4 ring, but the score registers at ~1oclock in the 7 ring. Again at 6:10 your laster hits ~11oclock in the 3-4 ring but the system scores you 8 at ~9oclock. Maybe I'm not understanding how it registers. Thanks for posting this, btw.

The system is designed to allow you to keep your optic setting from the range. You "offset" the software to accommodate the settings I use at 50-yards with my 124 grain ammo in real life.

Dale, look up lighting for videos. I think I remember something about fluorescent lighting affecting the cameras and how to resolve it on some videos. That jumping looks like it can't focus on the pistol maybe as it's too small of a target object and the camera is running an algorithm probably to look for human or faces. If you have a IPSC target or something body size try putting it by that closet door and just see if does anything or not.

Ok I made a small error in watching this video. I had the sound down because the wife was talking and I was pretending to pay attention. After watching I thought I should try this with winter coming in soon! So I set up a target in the basement corner and sat back in my desk chair and touched off a round. That's when I realized you were using a pellet gun and not a 10mm like I was. So anyways, I'm kinda in wife jail for a bit. haven't been told what my sentence is and I'm not sure it's in my best interest or safety to ask right at the moment. Great video!

I have both Avenge-x .22 and .177.. The .177 gave me some concerns because I could not get any pellet that showed promise. I set it up to shoot JSB Beast 16.2 grain for 895 fps. It was too fast for anything else so the pellets were all over the target. I then turned my hammer down so that the 16.2 grain were going 830 fps, this allowed the 13.43 grain to be under 900 fps.. What happened was the 13.43 and all the H&N pellets were not doing well, but the 16.2 started shooting hole in hole at 30 yards, then to my surprise the Crosman Premiere round nose 10.5 grain were shooting hole in hole at 30 yards with the transfer port set on LOW, with a velocity of 830 fps (same as the 16.2 on high power.. Groups are less than 1/4 in at 30 and I am guessing this may translate to under 1/2 in at 50 yards.. My regulator is 2000 psi and my hammer is 1/2 turn out from bottom. My .22 shoots H&N HP 21 grain slugs at 935 fps with hole in hole at 50 yards - awesome.. But it also does 1/2 in groups with 18.13 grain pellets @ 888 fps, so I will be shooting pellets mostly because I don't have to turn the hammer up so high, and instead of 8 turns I use 1 turn on the hammer.. plus pellets are cheaper.. I also have a Benjamin Cayden .22 (non-regulated) and I get 60 shots with extreme spread of 19 fps using JSB 18.13 grain with velocity between 841-860 fps which shoots 1/4 - 3/8 in groups at 50 yards.

The Lapua LR sure has been up and down for how successful it is with people. For the price and brand rep you would reasonably assume it would perform above average and for some it does just that. But I've also seen several videos where it just shot worse than bulk in some fairly expensive rifles that produce .2's on the regular with match ammo. Seeing how it has done and with my current supplies, I have no interest in it right now. I still get my best results with Ctr-X and Midas+ out of my 2 best rifles and I don't see any reason to change things.

@RimfireAddicted70 You want to shoot what works for you. There is certainly luck of the draw if you, like me, don't lot test. Lapua in general has been solid for me at 50-yards. At 100-yards is where I start to notice.
