- In 1993, a half-hour television special called The Incredible Crash Dummies was produced. It was aired on Fox Kids on May 1, 1993. The animated short was entirely composed of computer generated imagery and centered on the adventures of Slick and Spin. A fellow Dummy named Ted has been chosen to use a new, indestructible torso module (Torso-9000), but his head is mixed up with an evil dummy's head, leading to the birth of Junkman. Slick and Spin try to free the kidnapped Dr. Zub from Junkman before the villain can extract the knowledge of how to mass-produce the torso. The special was later released on video and sold with the "Ted" action figure from the special as well as a second edition recolored Junkman.
I just watched this for the first time in over 25 years and I STILL remember several of the lines.

I just said "Brilliant deduction, Spin!" to my wife after she said something I agreed with. I immediately realized where that came from, and had to come find it.
Same haha
"This place needs dusting!" Has been stuck in my head for 28 years 😄
And the animation on it is still awesome
The CGI is quite impressive and expressive for its time.
Similar to ReBoot.
Watching this unlocked memories from 30 years ago, very surreal. Born in 1986 and distinctly remember watching this at 7. I think I had this on VHS randomly as well lol
"But I need my body, it's got my arms and legs on it!"
Explaining priorities to kids circa 1993
I loved this show. Probably wore the vhs out I watched it so many times. Had some of the toys too. Watching it now I can see how great the writing was for a kids show.
Are you being sarcastic? Oh dear God, I hope so. If not, I fear for your psychological wellbeing. I almost have no words to describe how awful this writing is.
First of all, it's just plain lazy. The writers don't even attempt to provide any reasonable motivation or backstory for the "evil head" villain. They just hand wave it away with one line from Dr. Zub saying "oh yeah, for reasons we don't understand, the head is just evil okay?" So of course they don't need to provide any justification for why Dr. Zub feels it's necessary to keep the super dangerous evil head just sitting around the office, unlocked and without even a warning sign or office memo. The writers were literally like "okay, we need a bad guy. how about there's just some evil head that's just evil for no reason? how did he get there? i dunno he's just evil and they just keep him there. BAM - we got our villain!"
Secondly, the "humor" is just asanine, while lacking any internal consistency. Listen, I don't expect the jokes to be great, as it is a show for little kids and kids will laugh at anything remotely wacky or slapstick. I don't mind absurdity or immaturity. I think the Terrence and Philip bits on South Park are hilarious. Freddy Got Fingered is my favorite comedy. But this show actually insults the intelligence of the average 5 year old. Seriously, the jokes don't even make any sense! One example:
After Ted is injured, Dr. Zub reassures him that he will make a full recovery because he "has a good head on his shoulders". Okay, I see the irony in using the figure of speech 'having a good your head on your shoulders', (which means that a person is a highly rational thinker), when it is literally the opposite of Ted's decapitated state. But for the joke to be funny, it cant just be a play on words. The actual words need to be logically consistent in their own right. Meaning, the statement he makes to Ted should provide reasons that support the likelihood of Ted's full physical recovery from the accident. But the figure of speech Dr. Zub used doesn't make an ounce of sense. Why would somebody's highly developed logical reasoning skills make them respond positively to surgical operations? If your friend required surgery for a broken leg, would you tell them, "You'll be all better after the surgery buddy! After all, you have such highly developed critical reasoning skills!" No, you wouldn't, unless you were a lunatic who had lost their grip on reality. It doesn't matter if you make a pun not, it's just totally irrelevant.
This show is a nightmare, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that any members of the "creative" team responsible for it had ended their own lives by now.
If you WERE being sarcastic, then yeah - agree 100%.
@@LowDinksHijinxPickleball _“The writers don't even attempt to provide any reasonable motivation or backstory for the "evil head" villain.”_
Dude, you just described 99% of fiction, kid or adult. The whole concept of an evil villain is moral justification for war, conquest, imperialism. We have to kill our enemy, they are evil!
If you think that is lazy, then you think fiction is lazy.
_“the "humor" is just asanine, while lacking any internal consistency”_
The humour is not asinine, it is a pun bonanza. It is goofy for the sake of being goofy. These characters are crash dummies, they run into walls for fun. Of course the comedy should match that tone. Slapstick and silly dialogue, colourful and breezy.
_”This show is a nightmare, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that any members of the "creative" team responsible for it had ended their own lives by now.”_
This show is a pilot episode of a series that was never made, but it is fondly nostalgic for those who loved it. The atmosphere was more fun than most of the kids’ shows that did get made, especially the soulless CGI animation that dominates the present landscape of child media.
You need to take a chill pill dude. You’re ranting like Junkman.

I was another one of the freaks who memorised this as a kid. Was obsessed with it. No idea what happened to the VHS or why I even thought of it just now, but it's awesome that this has been uploaded - thank you, you legend.
did you get the VHS from buying one the dummies action figures?
@@MrJames-tw3so I had a crash dummy car that crumpled on impact, and the dummies' ears, eyes etc would pop out lol. It must have come with that toy set! The company definitely missed out on something good here, because I must have watched that one tape at least 300 times! If they made more, kids would have loved it.
@@anthonyreed480 oh I totally forgot about the ears popping out,wow totally forgot about that. This is one of those things that were a huge part of your early childhood that gets pushed to the deepest parts of your mind as you get older only to come rushing back as an adult completely without warning.
I used to have this on video it was and still is awesome

Time to clean up your act
Got my tape too. I still thought they had a full series...
Unfortunately it was a one off special I think

Wow.. Nostalgia is overflowing 🤯
Oh god yes the animation and all is still awesome even in 2022
This is actually the first TV cartoon made with CGI graphics in May 1, 1993. It's previous both to VeggieTales (of the same year) and ReBoot (1994). There was Les Fables géométriques in 1989 but that was different.
I was sitting on the sofa eating cheese dorritos in my pajamas watching this as a kid! LOL
I forgot this show ever even existed, soon as it started it all came flooding back. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

with the technology they had back in 93, it would have taken months to make one episode.
With this kind of animation being something that can be done on a good modern PC it would be great to see some fan try to re do this. We need the crash dummies back!

interesting,I watch a bit of VT but found it to religious, since it was a Christian kids show, but it was still good. Reboot however was really good, the colours and storylines were really unique.
Never saw this as a kid but I would have loved it.
As a kid me and my brother had almost all the toys. I had the black stock car that would break apart when hitting a wall. For the 90's they were very impressive toys, not if you lost some pieces hahaa!
Haha I remember watching this when I was 5 years old :O
This feels like it could've been the pilot for an entire series.
I think it was.
@@matthewkrulitski8788 Wonder why it wasn't picked up.
It was supposed to be, but didn't get enough recognition and stopped the project after one episode
It was, it was part of the safety craze in the early 90s, the show was inspired by the toy line at the time (I had the yellow crash car with Slick and VHS cassette of the animation) but the craze didnt last long, I think it was around a year.
@@axon1637 My brothers had the same thing. It was fun crashing that car around.
A lot of these jokes would have flown waaay over kid's heads. "Brilliant deduction Spin!" "Is it tax time already?"
The jokes don't go over anybody's head. They are just a series of plays on words loosely related to the characters being stupid, or being made of plastic, or having hazardous jobs. Mindless brainfarts from lazy, uninspired writers effectively moonlighting as toy marketers. @@LowDinksHijinxPickleballI dont think critical commentary on kids shows is ur thing. The joke is that it is a stupid pun. If that went over your head...you might be a dummy.
Oh that’s a nice opinion, did your husband give it to you?
Thanks for transporting me back to my childhood, back when I use to watch this nearly everyday. I still have the toys in storage.
I used to have a VHS copy of this and this was so fun to watch, as much as it was playing with the actual toys and dummies! I had the taxi cab and the flip over truck at least, possibly some other ones too as well as slick and spin. I also still have the SNES game that basically follows the story line to find and defeat the junk man. It really should’ve been more popular than it was.
I remember my mom buying me a Crash dummies toy at Zellers and it came with this tape. Watched it 100 times.
Zellers eh,Toys R Us for me. Do they have TRU outside of Canada?
I remember watching fox kids from beginning to end every Saturday for mooooonnnths waiting for the second episode.
Such a shame!
The only crash test dummies episode I remember or ever knew of.
Brings back my child hood

12:22 Idk why but that has always stuck in my head since I was 5 when I first saw this lmao
I had this on VHS! It came with a crash test dummy action figure I got from KB-Toys when I was 5. The action figure would pop off all it's limbs when a button was pressed on the chest.
I got this VHS tape packaged with a Crash Dummies figure when I was a kid. I loved this show so much!
I love this show, so many memories!

Glad it wasn't just me, used to be terrified of him lol
This is so nostalgic... it gives me childhood vibes and reminds me of being inside on hot summer days with my grandmother watching this. I ended up with the action figures at one point I remember too
When I was 5 yrs old I got this free on VHS,it came with the purchase of one the action figures(Which were amazing). And I was the youngest in the family,so my two older brothers thought it was too kidish for them so I watched it alone. I don't know what it was about this cartoon but it had a very odd effect on me,like no other 90s kid show did. I would watch it all the time when I had the TV to myself. I still don't know why I was so fascinated by this show and especially this episode I had on VHS,which I just learned now was the only episode made.
This video unlocked memories I forgot I had :D
Man the memories what a time to be a kid!
I remember my mother buying this at a Payless, not the shoe store. Never saw an action figure that came with a movie! I still have that VHS though it's riddled with tracking lines. Very smooth animation and a great vehicle for the Junkbots and Pro-Tek suit line.
This was much better than it had any right to be considering it was essentially made as a feature-length advert to sell toys!
I love both my toy dummy and VHS with this one and only episode.

It was far shittier than your average kid's TV show, let alone quality children's programming, such as Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, The Muppets, Adventure Time, Rugrats, Duck Tales, Hey Arnold.
My childhood all right here!
Man crazy how I remembered every second of this one
Man, this was awesome as a kid to me and my sister. Exactly! All of the voice actors are Canadian.
@@raquelh99 They're all total pros, too. I became a voice actor myself as an adult, and cartoons like this, Batman, and X-Men are a big part of why. Just like with Transformers, they do everything they can to characterize these non humans with their voices, and that does so much to make the characters real to the audience. I can't imagine trying to explain this to someone who couldn't follow the English, it's a strange enough artifact to explain when merely displaced 30 years in time. Now I watch it and remember which toys I had, and marvel at the oddity of it all. The closest I can explain the effect is like when you see a new kind of tv and it looks weird until you get used to it. I just happened to be watching a stream of Reboot today (also Canadian voiced) and it got me thinking about this, as no one still knows about it who didn't see it themselves.
