I'm gonna be sticking to the stock batteries when mine arrives in a few days. Unfortunately having to charge the batteries is something we can't avoid and we simply have to accept the fact that these vehicles will always have a limited range especially give the f act that they're electric and not gas powered.

We own a fleet of modded Razors of all shapes and sizes, I've made most mistakes myself over the past couple years, and I've often thought about building a switched dual power system like this. Nice little scooters but adhere to the weight limit of 220 pounds...We were giving a 6o lb kid rides on ours and the brushes in the motor overheated. I managed to stretch the spring and get the one brush working again and cleaned the armature. Good for now.

LOL!!! I could take the batteries from my pocket mod and put them in although the ecosmart scooter uses three batteries in tandem while the pocket mod uses only two.
You could ditch the lead-acid batteries entirely and power the scooter from two Milwaukee M18 lithium batteries in series. They come in capacities ranging from 2Ah all the way up to 12Ah. Remove them when they are empty and charge in the Milwaukee charger. I modified my kid's electric go-kart which has a 36V Razor motor and controller--probably the same ones you have. There's a guy on eBay that sells 3D printed adapter plates for the Milwaukee packs.
Yeah and then run the risk of catching on fire while riding? Razor doesn't put lithium batteries in their electric vehicles for a reason, that reason being that the lithium batteries are prone to spontaneous combustion even when the device is turned off.

@@michaezell4607 These units come as a lithium option, even the owner of this video mentions it. Also a fire from these batteries are rare as they have built in protection from over charge or over current. Maybe in a collision where the battery is damage there is potential for a fire. If the owner of this video would have used Lithium iron phosphate (LifePO4) then the fire possibility is non existent.
better to use "40v" lithium batteries instead of 2 @ 18v batteries, where loading balancing can become a problem. I find Greenworks batteries are quite affordable. Ryobi batteries can be cheaper during Ryobi days at home depot.

Hey John? Incidentally, I just watched another video earlier where you upgrade the diodes in a solar panel. Yours only had 2,where mine has 3. Well, 6 really, but let's be real. 3 aren't even doing anything now are they? Lol
Anyway, I want to replace them as you did and just wondered if I need to know anything different since there are 3? Also, why did your diodes look like transistors, minus a pin?
And finally, should I replace all 6 or just use 3? I mean the current is only going to use the one with least resistance anyway, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Lithium cells need charged Constant Current / Constant Voltage. Your batteries are going to be short lived I think. The batteries my have protection built in that will prevent over charge.
They use standard tool battery chargers with internal BMS in the tool battery and the lead acid has a standard 1.5 amp deep cycle controller charger.

Unfortunately I have to order a replacement front fork from Razor because when my scooter arrived the front fork was bent backwards on the left hand side so badly that the front tire cannot be put on. This appears to be a manufacturing defect as it looks like the left side downtube that connects to the axle must have been positioned incorrectly in relation to the position of the steering tube during the welding process. Another amazon customer had the same problem when their scooter also arrived with similar damage. The box that my scooter was shipped in was in terrible shape when it was delivered to me so it's no wonder there was damage?

I'm getting 2 miles on brand new batteries brand new motor can't get no more than 2 miles on this scooter what's causing the problem
Sounds like you might have a bad controller module inside there that's eating up a lot of the power

Having to trust my sons data recording the capabilities we estimate the 18 mile range given to us by The bike company is about 90% accurate at 16.6 miles, with these batteries carrying two of them we got over 28 and a half miles till they shut off. So I'm guessing that it gave us about 6 miles per tool battery of running around. Notably the speed was about two mile per hour faster when the tool battery was first put on but quickly dropped to about a mile per hour slower than the lead acids for the rest of its energy. However is still very functional. Extremely cheap investment if you consider it.

Great Video John. You mentioned in a earlier video about your Lead Acid battery bank with a Lithium kicker battery? Any future Video on it?
Yeah we best estimated that we can put 3 hours at 60 plus amps into our big lead acid Bank off of a 200 amp 24 volt lithium setup. And I'll make it to where it doesn't activate until 1 hour after sundown using a CDS cell sensor.

No, a 60 amp standard solar controller. They are just battery chargers at heart. A separate 500 watt array charges the 24 volt set up, at night those batteries become a placebo solar source to a single 60 amp standard solar controller feeding the 12v lead acids a booster if needed to keep them from voltage/D.O.D. sag.
The lithium will just act like 22 to 30 volts of incoming solar juice to it. When they get below a input value they'll disconnect or if they reach 13.8 on the lead acids they'll disconnect.

What if I have the same scooter but it's 48v not 36V is the wiring the same?
Basic wiring structure remains the same for 36 or 48 volt, if you can find a 56 volt tool battery and mount that'll work as an alternate.

As much as i loved my metro scooter, i sold it and bought A RadRunner. I easily go 35 miles per charge
its hard to explain when something like ratings and capacities are mentioned as don't worry about it. To the layman it appears magic happens. And to the more versed, little alarm bells sometimes sound in ones head. Perhaps a little more information as to why one shouldn't worry about ratings and maybe limits as to margins of don't worry about it maybe in order. One mans common sense isn't always transmutable to all men.

Hey, Love your video. I have a question. I have a spare 48V Li-ion battery, can I use it for the exact Razor ecosmart and replace it for the lead acid battery (3 x 12V/7Ah)?
48 volt is possible but check your motor control in the battery tray to be sure it's a 36 to 54 volt model.

You can order the same controller in 48 volt option, I believe the plugs are the same, go to their website and look for the 48 volt replacement. As far as I know the motor is a 30 to 60 volt capable motor.

Your title is incorrect. You are not using Lithium Iron Phosphate (LifePO4). You are using Lithium Ion batteries. Different chemistries. Also you can save more money buy using a (home) three way switch. May look ugly, buy if you use a black switch with a black plate cover it would harder to see.
Those are not real Black&Decker batteries - I wonder what the actual ah capacity is ?
So far so good. They ran the 4 miles to the river on one, then 4 miles back on the other one without using the lead acid set. They did get warm and did not like constant full throttle showing low battery to flash on the meter on inclines. They were not dead after that run in the 95 degree heat but very close. I'd say 4 ah is a maybe, for $40 less than B&D branded I'll take them, but a 5 amp hour would be the perfect choice.
