      I hooked up the lithium-ion battery positive and negative then the charger to the charger port positive and negative red and black I just went out on the scooter and it went about 5 mph and stopped and then I kind of smelled something. I think the controller's burnt. I wish I knew what I did wrong. So now it turns on but it won't go because I think the controller might be gone. It makes me think positive and negative might not be positive and negative. Can you give me any advice John? I can't see how to send pictures but I took pictures

    Sounds like about time to come up with a solar sunshade/canopy with a couple of 10-20 Watt panels to give it a shot while it's parked out on the site waiting on the next run...? We need more people like you guys, that take the bull by the horns and not only solve the problem (s) but make improvements, instead of just lollygagging around whining about how bad everything is. Texas must love the hell out of you guys. We are a few still in Florida, too.

    Thanks for posting this. I have gone off your video and your answers to questions in the comments, and I have done the same upgrade (without the supplemental tool batteries) to a Razor Ecosmart that I found in disrepair and covered in spider webs on my college campus (U of I). 28 - 30 miles of range if you're cruising at full speed and sitting down, although if you're riding around campus with all the starting and stopping, and flooring it from a standstill all the time, it's more like 16 miles. Top speed is about 20 mph on a full charge, 18 mph at 60% or so. Gravel and dirt roads don't slow it down much, nor does a headwind, and it does around 9 mph through rough grass. It's an unusual-looking scooter, and it gets some (good) attention. You will get your butt and back splattered riding over wet unpaved terrain, or in the rain, unless you go really slow. I bought the same exact 36V 20Ah battery from the link you gave, although I spliced and soldered the XT60 connector wires to the original Razor connector wires rather than using a screw-down terminal. Yes it did result in a redundant double-connector, but that was fine with me. I did not bother modifying the charger or wiring the battery to the built-in charging port on the scooter, but instead ran the charging port wire on the battery over the top of the black plastic tub to hang on the outside. It's a more quick-and-dirty way than what you did, but for those who aren't aware, the battery comes with a hinged plastic cover on the charging port to keep water out, which was a pleasant surprise to see when the battery arrived. It probably wouldn't be hard to cut your own out of spare rubber or cork even if it didn't have a cover. The battery does not seem to heat up at all while charging, though it gets warm from full-throttle riding. I used padding like you did, on all sides of the battery, so hopefully it doesn't get banged up inside there with all the sidewalks and curbs.

      Draw it down below 10 volts, possibility under 9 and see if it disconnects, or charge it to 14.5 and see if it also disconnects. Most are set to disconnect at 10 low, 14.5 high.

    Someone mentioned that they spliced and soldered the XT60 connector wires to the original Razor connector wires rather than using a screw-down terminal. Do I need to use the 6.3mm 3 pins male and female connector in order to do so?

    • @canaws
      @canaws 11 місяців тому

      I'm not the same poster, but I also connected to the original connector & wires. I connected them with crimp butt connectors. I cut the 6.3mm 3 pin white connector & it's wires, plus the fuse & it's wires off the lead acid batteries. I cut the XT620 connector off the new battery, connected the new battery's black wire to the white connector's black wire, connected it's red wire to one of the fuse's red wires, and connected the fuse's other red wire to the white connector's red wire. You can then plug it into controllers 6.3mm 3 pin white connector.

    Are you worried about heat build up with all that foam packed around the battery?

    • @JOHNDANIEL1
      @JOHNDANIEL1  Рік тому +7

      Not yet, It does have a heat controlled BMS disconnect. The packing foam has practically zero insulative value, you can feel a light bulbs heat on the other side of it immediately when you put it up near one. I had a "light bulb idea" of using it for insulating pipes since I get so much of it , hundreds of pieces a year from installing solar, but it would not protect pipes at all.
      The other part is the scooters draw is far less than the batteries ability, so unlikely to make much heat even under continuous draw. If it ever does we will replace or change it, it's easy. The charger is just under 4 amps charging too, and I charged it in a bath towel to see if it warmed it when charged but none happened, if I did it with the BMS max of 8 amps It may get warm.

    @John Daniel JUNE 14, 2023- Hello, I am 46 yrs old and new to scooter world and never had one. I have walked for years to work and back which is about 2.5 mile round trip. That is getting old so I been looking for past year in research on a scooter. I pulled the trigger yesterday and ordered the one in vid- Echosmart Metro Razor chain driven motor. It should be here tomorrow. For the start I have a couple things if you could input on. Being I have worked on electronics since 80s I sorta understand all this in vid. I will mod the scooter in time but for now I will leave that to the side in the battery upgrade. But have the first question on that part itself 1. Do you see any reason or know of that the battery mod could effect the motor? Being the increase in speed a tad vs the 500 watt motor keeping up with such and any added strain per spec of motor. 2. I do not see a link for the head light itself? Wish you did a vid on the head light and install because I need to put front and back light on mine. 3. Oddly my concern on this scooter is silly at this point and simple. Being- you will find the HD ver or SUP maybe has the front and back rain/mud runners. Meaning the things right above wheels that direct water and such away vs your back spraying water all over you. Can this exact scooter have a part you can get to solve said? Thanks.

    • @JOHNDANIEL1
      @JOHNDANIEL1  Рік тому

      The motor is capable of the battery change, it actually is more harmed by the voltage sagging as the lead acid batteries volts drop and will get hotter loading with lower volts. (ohms law). Seems to run much happier. The controller can handle it also, has 60 volt capacitors in it. Numerous headlight kits and tail light kits amzn.to/42H4WNy are on Amazon. The motor controller has numerous plugs that are made for lights, brake function and so on. You may have to test it to verify which ones to use.
      As for fenders you can buy 16 to 20" bike fender kits amzn.to/3NdyRXY and using some modification they mount easy such as mounting on the rear basket and making adapters for them.

    Heya! I have a question, my scooter is different than yours but same principle, is a SXT 1000W scooter that comes with Lead acid batteries, i bought one of those 100$ lithium batteries out of amazon, Chinese branding, now here's the thing, with the old acid battery i could get 14km (i cant tell you in miles sorry) in one charge, now with the new one i get max 4km only before it dies, here's the kicker, with the old one i could see how much charge i have before the battery died, now with the new one i can see all lights perfectly fine and suddenly as soon as i hit the 4km mark the scooter dies straight away, so i want to know if its just a problem with the battery or it could be the controller, because the old battery was 36v 12ah and the new one is supposed to be 48v 40ah, for which it makes no sense what so ever, if you have any clue lemme know, thank you very much!

      I think those bikes had a buck boosting drive controller. Using a 48 volt battery may cause it problems. The controller is made to resist over 44 volts, and the waste energy issue may cause the BMS in the 48 volt battery to shut off. Send me the exact model link, I can check it out. The 1000 watt motor I suspect is 1000 watt German rated LOL, which may mean dual 500 watt windings. So lets see more model info and send battery link too so I can check the constant current to safety cut that 48v battery uses.

      It's a scooter not a bike tho 😅 but alas i understood what you said, it is the SXT 1000W TURBO, the scooter is indeed German made so yeah that might an issue, now the battery i bought was the cheapest thing i could find on Amazon and its advertised as a 100ah battery (its not because its made by 13x3 cells totaling something like 48v to 40ah mathematically, because i did the math using in comparison the cheapest samsung cell i found over internet) i can not put any links it seems because youtube deletes the reply so i cannot help anymore 😥

      i would no do that but some have put a 48 volt motor and control box in them. if you are good mechanic you can mount one but they do not have bigger motors with same bolt set up so you have to make a part for it. dad says if you want more power add a 250 watt front wheel hub motor and change gears on the original motor so you can go 30 mph. kiera.

The battery is definitely a good battery I tested the voltage and it does say that it has 30 amps. I tell you what if you drew me a detailed diagram and sent that to me somehow I would get you two cups of coffee. I know that doesn't sound like a great deal does it I guess I'm not rolling in dough. • @JOHNDANIEL1
      @JOHNDANIEL1  Рік тому +3

      Yes, in a big way. Range was under a real 12 miles. Now its in the +30 miles. Top speed is easy 2 mph faster but standing acceleration is not any better than fully charged Lead Acid, however after about 5 miles lead acid take off is sluggish and the lithium is still the same as fully charged in behavior. So, over all, excellent results. Best result is with the voltage maintaining higher the motor runs a tad bit cooler since less amps are needed at higher real voltage.

    • @JOHNDANIEL1

      Depends on the BMS in the lithium battery. If its a 10 amp battery with 10 amp draw then it will barely be enough for heavy draw but should work. The 7 amp lead acid is 7 Amp Hours storage, but CCA ( cold cranking amps, the draw on demand like starting amps ) is 22 amps capable. Like a car battery.
