  • These Wunderlich Handlebar risers are an expensive, but incredibly made, accessory. But if you are 6' 3" and find the RT slightly uncomfortable then maybe they are the answer. After fitting, which is not as easy as we thought, Mike has found that they have transformed his bike, loves them! At 5' 8" not for me, the RT is comfort on two wheels as it is.

A joy to watch problem solving Norman. If you think the dipped bulb was a PITA to change, just wait until you have to do the main beams!

I just bought a 2017 RT and was looking for ways to adjust the angle of the handlebars. I now realize I have Wunderlich Risers installed. Based on this video and some of the comments, I guess I had better learn to live with them. Thanks for the video.

Hi Austinman, yeh I think you are right. When I fitted them I thought how on earth would you get them off without a torch 😱

@@normski3091 One more question, if I may. The screw located under the left handlebar grip (at 1:46 in the video), does that determine the rotation of the switch cluster on the bar. In other words, if I want to rotate the switch cluster, I will have to either, rotate the handlebar so the screw will go back in the hole, or drill another hole? Drilling holes is a last resort.
I get the impression whoever fitted the risers put the handlebar back in, refitted the switch cluster, realized it was rotated too far anti-clockwise, and decided to leave it. Here is me, new to the bike, and I keep hitting the horn instead of the indicator switch.

Hi Austinman, I had a look back at the video. I am not sure but if I remember I think the bolt goes through a hole set in the handlebars. This would mean that you cannot undo and turn🤔. I cannot check either because my RT has been traded in for my 1250GS.
If you find and take out the bolt you will be able to see the length of it🤷🏼‍♂️. Wish I could be more help??

Thanks so much Normsky. I do not think I would have been able to fit these risers on my 2018 1200RT without your excellent video. The Wunderlich notice is just pathetic, specially to locate the tiny screws inside the commands. As you have commented there is no need to remove the electrical connectors as there is enough cable slack to slide the handles out of the bars. But great equipment. I am back to my GS comfortable driving ergonomics with this accessory.

I am not a fan of this design. But thanks for demonstrating the install.

After extracting the black handlebar from its original location, remove the black paint from about 3/4 of the narrow portion. Will be much easier to insert in the riser. After removing riser from freezer, place it in position and insert black handlebar and tap in place. Then let the riser come to ambient temperature and it will lock itself in place. Then tighten to specs.

I agree with the idea of removing some paint. I used some wet & dry and a few minutes removed enough for the handlebars to slide in easily, no mallet required. Also I did not need the freezer approach - the bold pulls the riser snugly into place.

Hello Normski. I used to own a 2018 R1200 RT but recently sold that one and instead I bought a 2020 R1250RS. Question: Do you know if there are bar risers like the onse shown in this video that would be suitable to the 1250RS? I already installed helibar risers on my 1250RS, however they still do not provide sufficient relief for my hands and shoulders. It seems to me that the kind of riser you show in this video would make a big difference. I also prefer to not install a GS like handlebar instead of the original one that comes with the RS. Can you advise? Many thanks!!!

I bought a used 2019 RT WITH the risers... How do you get the risers off??? Use a sledgehammer? I don't want/need them.

Hi Jeff, That is an interesting question. When we fitted them I said to Mike, who's bike it was, don't ever ask me to take them off. Because I had to leave them in the freezer all night to make them fit I can see no way of removing them...I really can't. Think you would have to heat them up and that, I believe, would cause too much damage elsewhere. You are going to have to love them Jeff?
