Goldwing Helmet Lock
Your top box is full, the sun is blazing, you want to stop and walk around that lovely lake you are passing...but you cannot think about carrying your helmets yet again, let alone your jackets. Honda's Goldwing has an amazing 'hidden' locking system but it can be made even better and even secure your jackets as well. Enjoy that stroll in the sun!

GoPro Remote Holder

I designed a holder for my GoPro Smart Remote and have used it everywhere to switch on and off the HERO 7 for a number of years. Last year I upgraded to the HERO 10 and then discovered that there was a new, different, remote that I had to buy! So came up with a different design which worked on my GS. I have taken that design to the next stage and so that it will fit the GoldWing and also suppor...

Fitting the Shad 58 Top Box to the Gold Wing

The panniers on a Goldwing look enormous, but they are a fraction of the size on a GS or RT. A top-box is essential for any touring. You can of course buy the Goldwing TOUR model with the 'armchair' pillion for ulitimate comfort (often embarrassment for the pillion I discover). The 58tr expandable SHAD topbox and fitting kit is a far cheaper solution. Big enough for two full face helmets and so...

    Hi Norman i received my RAM mounts and they are great, watching this video on the risers looks like a bit of a nightmare, i purchased some cheaper bar backs for my RT (2022) and thought it would be a easy job. I don't have the removal tool for the bars and cant seem to get them anywhere can you tell me what size they are? being an electrician I can easily get 20mm or 25mm tube and cut it to length. On another subject i have just ordered my Insta360 does your gopro remote mount fit the insta remote?

    • @normski3091
      @normski3091 2 дні тому

      Hi Steve, As you can see on the video the removal is a nightmare. The extraction tube, bolt and washer came with the Wunderlich Riser kit. The tube is 280mm long, 25mm outside diameter and 23mm inside diameter. The reason I know is that I have just found it!! Thought I would have used that long ago and cut it up. If it helps I can post it to you, no cost. You will have to find a bolt and washer. The GoPro mount will not fit the Insta remote. In fact the GoPro mount will not fit the latest GoPro remotes anymore and I have had to come up with a totally new mount for the GoPro remote (on my web site). Let me look back at my video's to see how I fitted the Insta remote. Will come back to you.

      Hi Steve, Had to look at my UA-cam video on the Insta 360 mounted to my RT. I remember the Insta Remote came with a 'half round' plastic holder. I made a solid bar of brass the same diameter as that and drilled it to bolt onto the RH bar as you see in the video. It worked and held the remote fine but just too small to be able to read anything while I rode. However the remotes I believe have changed so whole idea might be different as per GoPro. ??

    In the last step for the inner spring, you could have looped a closed zip-tie around the hook of the inner spring and pulled the opposite end of the tip-tie with your screw driver. That would have effectively given you a longer hook to work with (to free up your other hand). Then you could have guided the real hook into the hole with your free hand and pliers. How about staring over to try it? 😄

    • @normski3091
      @normski3091 11 днів тому

      Hi Steve, I had orders for 5 RAM Bolts on Friday for Canada and Ireland. As I was making them I thought I would make an extra set while I had time on my lath 😄. So just about to go to the Post Office to post yours to you😆. Thank you for your order and supporting me. Fitting the 360 was tricky. As you will have seen it was on my RT at the time. I had fitted engine bars and riding lights. I put a RAM U bolt with 1" ball onto the bottom of the engine bar. Then bought a RAM 1" ball with the 1/4" screw that went straight into the bottom of the Insta invisible selfie stick. I then turn down a 'tube' the same size as the selfie stick at that position, drilled a hole in the side of this tube and there was just enough room to bolt it to the Denali riding light mount. This meant that I could raise or lower the selfie stick to whatever height I required. It worked well but the Insta 360 I had I just struggled to be able to see if it was on or not. The Insta remote was on my handlebar but screen too small for me to see what I was doing. In the end I sold the Insta and bought another GoPro. Just out of interest I looked at the latest Insta 360 the other day and they have changed so much that I think it would work really well on the system I had. Hope that helps, don't have any pictures!! Must rush to the Post Office. very best Norman

    I used to really enjoy riding the Snake in the early 90's, on a GRXR1100, then on a gen 1 Fireblade, a different road back then with far fewer double white lines, lighter traffic and no speed traps! I did most of this route only yesterday in fact, Snake, right in Glossop over Torside, then up over Holme Moss but turn right in Holmebridge just before the bridge at the Pickled Pheasant, up over Thurlstone Moor back to Flouch and back over Strines and home. Yes, there have been fatalities on the Snake over the years but no more than any other route. Dangerous? Nah, just enjoyable! 👍 I've had more close calls over Strines TBH, not a major trunk route but much tighter, twistier and a bit of a magnet for boy racers unfortunately. They've just tar sprayed it too so I'll be staying off it for a while.👎

I passed the Masters test but it only lasts 5 years and expired last October. Haven't taken it again because of the expense and I kept thinking 'why'...done it once!

    Here is my trick Attach the spring to the frame as seen in the video. Get hold of a strong S shaped hook. Now grab a ratchet strap (the kind you use to strap your bike to a trailer) Attach the S shaped hook to the free end of the spring. Attach one end of the strap to the S hook, and the other to the rear wheel. Take up the slack in the strap and activate the ratchet mechanism. Once you have stretched the spring, lever the end into place with a stout screwdriver. Remove the hook and ratchet strap. All done

Question: Do you know if there are bar risers like the onse shown in this video that would be suitable to the 1250RS? I already installed helibar risers on my 1250RS, however they still do not provide sufficient relief for my hands and shoulders. It seems to me that the kind of riser you show in this video would make a big difference. I also prefer to not install a GS like handlebar instead of the original one that comes with the RS. Can you advise? Many thanks!!!

      Hi YL, I looked at the German Wunderlich site and they do make bar risers for a 2020 R1250RS : Wunderlich Handlebar riser ERGO+ - silver Part No. 31000-301 €139.90 Prices incl. 19% VAT plus shipping costs Hope that helps😀

      @@normski3091 Hello Normski, I at fault as I never thanked you for your reply to my question. So, thank you very much!! And yes, I am aware of Wunderlich's bar risers for the 1250RS. However, I wish they had the kind you installed on the RT as they most likely provide much more relief than those offered for the RS...

    Thanks to you Normski I finally managed to replace my 1150GSA suspension with a refurbished original unit I did take the exhaust off PlusGas is amazing stuff Unscrewed the lower retaining bolt so far before the ratchet handle fouled against the exhaust stub, fortunately there is a hole in the socket the right size to slide a screwdriver through to turn it in a tight spot 😁 Job done and all tightened up to the correct torque settings!

    0:46 hi Norm. I’m getting all my silver parts powder coated as well. In terms of these rubber bits. I’m still unsure how to get them off. How would you recommend doing this? Thanks

      Hi Liam, it is such a good question and I remember having such a problem getting them off, and putting them back on again…but I am not much help as it was two years ago and I cannot for the life of me remember what I did. To be sure though to powder coat it has to be removed. They shotblast, powder coat only the metal and then put in a large oven. So whatever I did worked…useless I am, so sorry Liam😵‍💫

    Mine started making noise on the right side too. Damn it, 2018 9k miles. Is a new bike for me and started hearing a soft clicking noise on the right side. When I start the bike, it makes like a chain noise and goes away. I am in the middle of a trip. Is this normal? I hope I can make it home and check the bike there.

      Hi Marcelo, You really should be OK. It was the 2005-2007 GS's that had a 'fault'. Never heard of one dropping a valve outside of those years. When you get back find my video on checking the valve clearances. It is simple to do and is a good place to start. I would be surprised if it was the cam chain? You will make it home OK I am sure😀

    I was fussing with my Shad SM48 in the same fashion on my BMW RT. I found a step drill bit the best way to drill the plastic. Neat as a pin. Almost butchered it with a conventional bit but stopped myself and waited for the step bit to come from Amazon to finish that last 016mm hole from 6-10MM starters. Got the steel plate sorted and ready to fit the plastic chassis now and came in to watch you first! Well done!

      Hi Steve, I went to an engineering show a couple of months after I fitted the SHAD and noticed a step drill on one of the stands. Bought it with the thought that I wish I had it when I fitted the topbox. Your mind quicker than mine...well done!

    • @ariesmarsexpress
      @ariesmarsexpress Місяць тому

      I just put on the SN48 as well, and I have to say the Shad stuff has to be the easiest of anything I have ever attached to my bike including the backrest. I also use a metric step drill bit for plastics. There is nothing better. I will say to anyone doing this, it is really important to confirm the placement of those holes before you drill. Don't drill anything until you are absolutely certain not only of its overall place, but that your bit is actually at the center of the hole. Being a little off would be bad. An 18mm hole moves a lot with a very slight movement of its center. *I would also note that when you screw the plastic cover back to the top fitting, there are two plastic tabs the need to go into place first before you fit it down, then put in the four tiny screws. This gentleman missed that.

  • @richardrichard5409

    Not the correct methodology. You don't have enough slack in the throttle cables. The brass screws are not idle mixture screws, they are idle air bleeds to set idle speed. These have closed loop AFR management.

    Have done two catastrophic engines with dropped exhaust valves, exhaust side. Since no oil pan first job is to remove the opposite cylinder get a wooden stick, thick grease and spend hours picking out aluminum bits. Correction days picking out bits. Removed the con rod on the damaged cylinder and have it checked for not being bent, if bent straighten or replace. Here in South Africa, BMW s very popular so lots of crashed bikes so an abundance of used parts. Short of a long story purchased for ten thousand rand used piston, rings, pin, cylinder and head.all from the same donor bike therefore no new rings etc needed. Replaced all with the used bike parts including gaskets. Bike runs better than new, uses no oil and is more fun than ever to ride, however for long distance trips a always ride my Suzuki 650 vstrom of which I own two with a combined mileage of two hundred thousand kilometers without a problem. BMW fun to ride but close to home, like a BSA. Question to all, why do modern BMW bikes drop valves mainly right hand side drop exhaust valves without over reving?

      Hi Pepe, loved your experience and yes always seems the right hand cylinder😵‍💫. Seems BMW knows all about faulty valves in 2005-2007 GS’s, but I don’t suppose they will ever admit it😬. Thinking outside the box, but wouldn't be simpler putting the spring on the bike, attach it to the stand and then bolting the stand to the bike? Surely there is more leverage to be had on the stand, and 1 bolt and then pull the other side to then slot the bolt. I have never done this, but will be soon.
