I mean these books are in such amazing condition. I hope this family knew the money they were donating. May of been the collectors wishes. I've never seen so many books that old, that nice and glossy like you said.
They probably did not know what they had just wanted to get rid of them. But it did help raise a good amount of cash for the charity book shop. They were glossy but still had wear and foxing so overall probably 3.5-6.0 condition.
ok so this put a huge smile on my face. just to know that there are comic collections still unbagged and boarded. im a firm believer that comics are not as rare as people say. just millions of books in storage not in circulation
An untouched Owners collection like this is pretty rare, I dont see them that often. But they are out there and is something I se once every few years.

G'day Sean, enjoying your videos from the other side of the world in Australia.Made me smile at your comment about an Australian customer in your shop collecting The Phantom as that was very popular here back in the day.Absolutely loved this video and thank you for sharing with us as always.much love from Down Under.Brendon
I only live 30 minutes from the Book Cellar, but I'm resigned to the fact that the best books will be gone by the time I get there. Oh well. This was another excellent video with great comic banter to boot. Thanks, Sean!
A lot has sold but there is still a lot left. I think if you are ok finding some cool Silver age books around $5-$10 its worth a trip, if you only want key issues it might be too late.
Nice collection! I feel its best to price less than FMV due to the low grade conditions of these comics. I would imagine they would want to sell off the collection as quickly as possible. The longer the comics sit around you run the risk of more damage to them especially when people go through the boxes.
Man, how I would have loved that Kenner gun that shoots around corners as child! But on a hot Sydney summer day nothing beat a water pistol fight with friends, then into the 3 foot deep upright pool to cool off followed by lunch and then an afternoon of comics reading. Good times Sean, just really good times. And a great video here, the comics are nice but the chatter is priceless.
Great collection! I was a little concerned with their desire to not "invest" in bagging and boarding these. I wonder if it was due to the perceived cost associated with that, or what? Thanks for sharing!
So the book store is a charity shop that gets donations and all the proceeds go to help programs at the library. It has a great volunteer staff that keeps the place open. Comics they normally put out for $1 so a collection like this was not something they normally deal in or were prepared to bag and board etc. So because of that my friend Spencer introduced me to Don who processes the donations and I volunteered to go and price out the collection and help them figure out what to do with them all etc. I was not expecting to buy anything, I just wanted to make a video to promote the collection and help them price it all out but they did let me buy the ones I needed for my PC for a fair price so I was really happy with that. I brought 100 bags and boards with me and traded for 2 $5 books to give to my friend Spencer, so basically a donation to the shop and a gift to Spencer for helping out. Not only did he introduce me to the shop but he too spent the full day 10am-4PM sorting and pricing with me. He appreciates the store and loves book stores in general so he wanted to see them be helped out as well. As for the remaining books, we stood them up in the box with a divider in the middle so they don't get too rummaged through as people look to buy from them. I am hoping most get into collectors hands this week so they don't get too damaged.
@@pop-comics Thanks for taking the time to provide a lengthy response! Hope this video brings that library some attention and they can sell through that collection to keep on supporting the charity. 😁
I gave them a standing offer if they dont sell so well in the shop I am happy to pay about 50% of the prices we came up with to buy them out but I think we all want to see what they can sell in the shop first so they can get the most out of the Donation. That being said I know if someone walks in and wants a few books they will negotiate on the prices.
Those 80 page giants look great. About the same condition as mine when I had them. I had a complete run from # 1 all the way through to 56 i think it was. The first 15 & then 16 onwards that were numbered as part of the title run
Thank you, it was so much fun. If you can make it into Manhattan tomorrow the books will be for sale. Including all the great Batman books. Everything is priced to be a good deal, just not a steal.
Also there were a bunch of books that would have been highish grade but the foxing etc holding them back. I think there was a lot of books that you could work your magic with.
@pop-comics thought it was the Dino cover or does it just look a lot like it? Will have to try amd go back, you said you really like the cover I'll double check would be awesome
Try to figure out which book it is for me, I don't remember seeing a book that much in the piles but if there is one I want to make sure they know. Which series are you talking about? Honestly I dont remember any Black Canary covers at all.
Fantastic Four annual was first Annhiliation…you are missing some great books into the right pile Sub-Mariner, First Sting Ray, Doctor Strange-1st Living Tibunal.
@@pop-comics Those are some darned good circles! I think I loved Kamandi so much because, well, I often wandered around the fields and vacant lots of my hometown as a kid, exploring abandoned houses, barns, junked cars, etc. It was the 70s, so a kid outside on his own wasn't unusual. I suppose I often imagined I was Kamandi (I even had hair that long). Great memories. Thanks for the fun video, as always.
I don't think it sold very well. I actually got two issues of the 70s title as part of a grab bag of random issues bought on eBay. I kept one, but not the other.
@@wylierichardson-tu6zs Oh? I didn't know that. But I think there was a general feeling that the series was just trying to capitalize on the popularity of the Planet of the Apes films (the whole post-apocalyptic thing with talking animals). Maybe that worked against it.
If the whole collection sold on ebay I think it would generate 5-7K possibly a bit more (Before fees and labor, after fees and labor they would make less then selling in person), I suspect they will generate 4K at the end of the day at the shop.
Nothing like a guy who doesn't take the time to see what he has in value (he couldn't be bothered), just bring it to the book store and dump it. I hope he makes some good money, and he's able to stay opened. We are loosing book stores every year.
The guy who donated the books was awesome because it was a lot of value donated to the shop, the book shop is awesome because it is a non profit and all the proceeds go to help programs at the library and my friend Spencer is awesome for introducing me to the shop, and Don was awesome for letting me price the books fairly so everyone gets a good deal, and he let me buy the ones I wanted for my PC for a good price. I think its a win win win for everyone involved.
@ it’s no.29 avenger , really good condition… to me any way. My first comic. Think it’s a good steal? Or a rip off at $150? Over a hundred I think is expensive lol
Right at 54 minutes, listen to how quiet that owner guy gets when you don't discover Poison Ivy's first appearance. He already picked it I bet. Way to be sneaky. He even says he already organized it. I feel bad for the guy that donated this stuff, he was sitting on a gold mine.
The Book Cellar volunteer took all the high priced books that he recognized for himself before Shawn arrived to help him and for sure he took all the books that Shawn priced that were valuable. I know people that visited the place as soon they opened, all the high end books were nowhere to be found. Very shady move!!!!
Which day where they there? I believe most of the high end books sold on Tuesday. But I was not there so I really don't know what sold. I need to do a video showing which books I bought, I think I only bought 1 Marvel book the Night Rider, and a bunch of the oddball DC books (The Atom, Hawkman, Black Hawk, Doom patrol Etc) Some Justice League and Wonder Woman issues I needed and a chunk of the War Books. I priced out all the Batman and Marvel stuff for the shop since I knew that would sell best for them.
Too bad someone couldn't get a deal. Now that they're priced by you guys, forget that. But I enjoy the video and hopefully it really helps the library.
Everything was priced to be a deal just not a steal. So no, no one is buying $200 books for $1 but were able to get $60 books for $40-$50 and tons of $15-$20 books for $10 etc. At the end of the day the pricing is win win win for everyone.
@pop-comics Ultimately, that's good for the Library. and if buyer is happy too , that's great. I love that they are raw. I am I'll over comics trapped in plastic that don't get read.

@@wylierichardson-tu6zs I think he meant it was the most valuable in this collection, I think it ended up being second or third most valuable when I priced them out. Even though it was low grade the DR doom Prototype issue was worth more.
Yes everything is for sale at the book store, I did buy a nice stack for myself. Mostly the oddball DC stuff, war books, and Archie Harvey books. All the Marvel, Batman and and bunch of the other books are for sale at a very fair price. The keys we priced at 75-90% of FMV, the rest 50-75% FMV so there are deals to be had there.
I noticed in the comments people complaining about "he's not an expert" he missed blah blah blah. Like as if you need to know everything right away, and you have no resources available to make sure you didn't miss anything. I bet you spent 2 hours just bagging and boarding books for them.
Yup I looked up everything except the dell and goldkeye box, I ran out of time. But that box I think I pulled the books of value and no one mentioned any I missed so I think that box is good. I only had 100 bags and boards though, so I had to decided the 100 I wanted to get protected. Everything else I sorted into a $10 box and a $5 box. The larger size books of value I cut a paper strip and wrote the price on the end of the strip and stuck it in the middle of the book with the price popping out. I also always assume people let me know what I missed in the video so I can let them know after the fact which I did with one book.
The $10-$20 stuff we made a $10 box out of, the Dell and Goldkeye and lower grade books went into the $5 box. The books were mid grade vg-fn condition for the most part so there was not a ton over $20, but we did price the keys higher. These books were at a charity book shop and not a comic shop so we priced the keys at 80-90% of market price and everything else about 50% of market price so it would sell pretty quickly at a fair price for everyone without having to do the work of listing on ebay etc.
I had to double check, I was using the hip app and it listed it only as a $7 issue, so I will have to investigate it further. I thought I must have missed scanning it but I checked back and saw I had. Does look like it goes for more on ebay. Just means there might be some great deals on the books they have for sale at the shop. The Frankenstein I got for my friend Spencer.
While filming I was looking for the 100 best books that fit into Comic Bags, so my brain did not think to pull that one out because it was too big to fit. But afterwords when I priced everything out I believe I ended up pricing that one around $40. I just had to cut stips of paper out and write the grade and price on the paper and put it inside the book.
In the VG condition it was in, still falls under $30. After filming I went back and resorted them. I don't think I ended up putting it in the top 100 pile though so someone probably got it for a great price.
Oh that was one that was not on my radar, thanks for the info. I ended up buying all the war books from them cheap, but looks like I owe them a bit more for that one.
YOU SHOULD LOOK UP THE COMIC PRICE GUIDES FOR SURE- THE CHEAP PILE HE MADE IS NOT $5.-$10. BOOKS.THE AVERAGE PRICE FOR MOST OF THOSE ARE BETWEEN $100.-$700. THOSE UNEXPECTED BOOKS HAVE PRICES BETWEEN $300.-$700. EACH. THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS MORE TO BE MADE FOR THE LIBRARY.
If they were NM 9.8 candidates maybe, but for the most part they are in 4.0-6.0 low to mid grade condition so no they were not worth Thousands, no one would pay that.
Not true! Most of the books were in low grade condition, covers showed moderate to significant wear, creases, discoloration, fading, many books had lots of foxing, pages were brown, especially the Gold Key and Dell books.
Only if it was in VF condition, most of these comics had foxing or other flaws that kept them in lower grade. This one was in the $15-$25 range if it was listed on ebay.
Its more they are a charity shop run on donations, they don't tend to deal in rare comics. That is why I brought them 100 bags and boards to at least get the top 100 comics protected, and the rest we stood up in the boxes so they would be easier to go through without damaging them and added a divider in the middle so they could be flipped through easier without snagging on each other. Sounds like a bunch have sold already so hopefully all the books get into collectors hands soon.
Yeah I always mix up 1st and second prowler. I did go back and price them both out, I think the Fantastic Four Annual #5 was priced in the $40-$50 range in VG condition.
@@pop-comics right on it definitely gets a little nutty when you look through a whole bunch of books you lose your place. I enjoy your videos dude keep it going.
@@RichSensale Yeah there was a lot going on between conversations and trying to sort through all the books. I ended up spending another 4-5 hours after the video scanning everything looking up pricing then figuring out prices that I thought would be win win for everyone and putting the approximate grades on the 100 best books. I ran out of time so I did have to guesstimate all the Dell and Goldkey were cheaper, but I might have missed something. Thinking back I was looking for the 100 best books to put into the bags and boards I brought with me I might have put that one to the side because I could not fit it into the bags etc.
Yes the collection was donated to the Book Cellar. Which is the charity book shop under the Webster Library. All the proceeds go to support various programs at the library. NYC public library system is a real asset to the city.
Its NYC, people die and people clear out stuff to rent or sell apartments etc. Happens all the time. I have literally bought Key issues worth $100s to $1000+ from junk removal guys who got paid to haul the comics away etc. Have had people sell me sweet comics they found on the curb many times as well. Some people appreciate Library and happily donate things to help support. Either way I think the book store raised 3-4K from this collection maybe more so it was super successful for them.
What I showed on the video was to show every one what was in the collection with the purpose of people coming to the shop to buy the books. After filming I spent another 4-5 hours looking up and pricing up everything and pricing it fairly for everyone.
I believe we ended up pricing it at $40, while going through them I was looking for the 100 best that would fit in Bags and Boards. I did not have large enough size for the Annual.

He did a great job indeed.
Kamandi getting some love! My favourite comic in the 70s. It hardly ever gets mentioned, even though it was Kirby.
Oh we love Kamandi in the Pop Comics circles!
Sounds like a fun Childhood, I did similar adventures in my time.
So, how much did you eventually tell them that the whole collection was worth?
If the whole collection sold on ebay I think it would generate 5-7K possibly a bit more (Before fees and labor, after fees and labor they would make less then selling in person), I suspect they will generate 4K at the end of the day at the shop.
@@pop-comics If I had the money, I would’ve bought it all right there and then. That’s an amazing little collection.
@@JonsDDVlog I hear that!
I think its a win win win for everyone involved.
wow!I have a lot of comics too.I have two long boxes and seven short boxes.I want you to come to my house next time.I live in japan...
Oh comics in Japan sounds like a fun journey.
@@pop-comics Thank you!
sending my lil bro there. Hopefully He is smart and goes.
Did he go? Lots of fun books to be had.
I paid $150 for a 29 avengers really good condition… the black on the edges is still very black. Is that a ok deal?
Depends on how old they are, if they are from the 1960s probably a steal, 1970s not too bad, 1980s maybe a bit expensive etc.
@ it’s no.29 avenger , really good condition… to me any way. My first comic. Think it’s a good steal? Or a rip off at $150? Over a hundred I think is expensive lol
Killer Content Brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Appreciate it.
Right at 54 minutes, listen to how quiet that owner guy gets when you don't discover Poison Ivy's first appearance. He already picked it I bet. Way to be sneaky. He even says he already organized it. I feel bad for the guy that donated this stuff, he was sitting on a gold mine.
@@CarlRaines-rs9gt possibly or it had been picked at some time in the past
Someone just gave em away😭
Yup, an amazing donation to the book store!

Checking out the part I missed...!!
Enjoy!
Yeah...ff annual 6. Biggest marvel book.
Definitely. I think we ended up pricing it in the $40-$50 range for vg condition.
I made a short about it ua-cam.com/users/shortsZAGtjV55G_Y
Biggest in what sense? Just curious.
@@wylierichardson-tu6zs I think he meant it was the most valuable in this collection, I think it ended up being second or third most valuable when I priced them out. Even though it was low grade the DR doom Prototype issue was worth more.
@@pop-comicsok ty for clarifying. On a side note, will u be going to any of the NYC cons coming up soon?
Fantastic four 6 annual is a big book
Definitely, I think we priced that one out at $40-$50 in around a vg condition
@@pop-comics are they selling the books? Love watching your channel
@@pop-comics thank you I appreciate it

Some great books
Indeed there were.
I would have been sprinting down the sidewalk.
Haha I am hoping people do today to grab some of the sweet comics.
When will these comics be available for purchase?
I got them all sorted out already so I believe you can go and buy them now from the Book Cellar.
They open in 10 minutes
@@pop-comics Thanks, Sean!
Most those books are 20 and up. 5 dollars is like wholesale
You pulled Super goof 2 but skipped over the first appearance of super goof😂😅
I did miss it, but I think it was kinda low grade if I remember correctly.
@pop-comics probably lol that space ghost and Solar were awesome pulls. I'm a big dell fan
Do you know which minute Phantom Blot #2 showed up I cant find it lol I kinda dont remember seeing it, I remember #1 though.
@@pop-comics 1:11:52
Oh that is #1 in vg condition, I dont think Super Goof shows up until #2. Or if he cameos in #1 it looks like it sells for less then $10
You put 1st Eternity in the cheap pile!
I did miss that one, but in the grade it was in it was still under $20 value so we put it into the $10 box.
@pop-comics someone will be happy with that purchase! This was definitely a prize collection!
That Frankenstein is like 25-75$
I had to double check, I was using the hip app and it listed it only as a $7 issue, so I will have to investigate it further. I thought I must have missed scanning it but I checked back and saw I had. Does look like it goes for more on ebay. Just means there might be some great deals on the books they have for sale at the shop. The Frankenstein I got for my friend Spencer.
Wrong Computo killed off one part of Triplicate Girl, not Star Finger. But good guess.
Ah thanks for the correction, still a funny fun idea
man you kept interrupting his stories haha. great vid
He did have nice stories, I need to capture more one day. But yeah I was there to show the books.
@pop-comics fair enough, great vid love the content 👌
You missed the first Annihulus FF #6
While filming I was looking for the 100 best books that fit into Comic Bags, so my brain did not think to pull that one out because it was too big to fit. But afterwords when I priced everything out I believe I ended up pricing that one around $40. I just had to cut stips of paper out and write the grade and price on the paper and put it inside the book.
I made a short about it ua-cam.com/users/shortsZAGtjV55G_Y
Strange Tales 158 is one of the biggest books in the first 20 mins and you put it in the right hand pile. I was screaming "nooo"
In the VG condition it was in, still falls under $30. After filming I went back and resorted them. I don't think I ended up putting it in the top 100 pile though so someone probably got it for a great price.
I did ! :) The 5 dollar Bin and 10 dollar bin were/are Awesome !
Oh fantastic happy you got it.
Our Army at War 151 - 1st Enemy Ace
Oh that was one that was not on my radar, thanks for the info. I ended up buying all the war books from them cheap, but looks like I owe them a bit more for that one.
Can't believe that guy went all woke at the Swastika 😅
Something they probably would not due today.
Yes that is what I saw too, I think the grades where in the 3.5-5.0 range on average. The foxing being the worst flaw on most of them.
What?? First appearance of Copperhead??
Yes that was there I believe!
@@pop-comics yes it was. That needed a backboard and cover too. Very nice. $100+ comic easy.
Only if it was in VF condition, most of these comics had foxing or other flaws that kept them in lower grade. This one was in the $15-$25 range if it was listed on ebay.
Did a short on the book, double checked ebay it was a $15 book that we put out for $10 at the book store ua-cam.com/users/shorts90zDGTWnhJ0
Not trying to be disrespectful but that guy talking about how “he’s not investing in anything to protect those comics” gives me anxiety 😂
That's not the first Prowler. 78 is.
Yeah the two issues always mix up in my head until I see the number. We priced it properly though.
FF Annual #6!!!!

Donated?
Yes the collection was donated to the Book Cellar. Which is the charity book shop under the Webster Library. All the proceeds go to support various programs at the library. NYC public library system is a real asset to the city.
@@pop-comics ok cool
im calling BS....no way someone donated that.
