- Here we take a look at GTA V and how the cancellation of it's single player DLC combined with the fact that the base single player being disappointing could be signaling the death of the Rockstar single player game.

I wanted this game to give me a reason for it to replace GTA: San Andreas as my favorite game of all time, but it hasn't. HD graphics and a bigger map can't hide inferior storytelling.

I almost never had a problem with that mission. Supply Lines was a much more annoying mission.
I felt disappointed with the story in GTAV. I think you explained why very well. I got a sick feeling in my stomach playing Online, realizing that the shortcomings in GTAV were due to this being a launch pad for GTAO. I am amazed that almost 10 years later not enough people talk about this.
i hate GTA online, pay to win crap. im playing GTAIV, pretty entertaining.
Ertan Soner more like it’s crap because of all the modders and hackers destroying it for others, and that you have to pay outrageous amounts of money for virtual cars.
I besides some of the things about the endings, I completely agree. One main aspect of GTA Online I was excited for when I saw the trailer was the openness and freedom of being around your friends in an open world like Los Santos. I was so excited to start off small, robbing liquor stores for petty cash saving up for my own car, then being able to rob banks at will. It would have been AMAZING if they just let us rob banks or do things without having to go through a fucking loading screen and waiting in a lobby. I was hoping they for example that they would give us such freedoms to the point where we could try and rob a bank by ourselves. Sure it would be extremely difficult, but it would be there. They tried to put a single player DLC into GTA Online with heists, but it just doesn't work for me, and for many others.
I would never buy gta for the multiplayer I wouldn’t even bother buying it

A lot of comments are saying Red Dead redemption 2 still has single player yes well of course cuz it was already in the works but after that we won't get much single player. Even Strauss zelnik said he wants Rockstar the focus more on the online aspect and that single player will get cut down more than GTA V did
I really do enjoy GTA V single player and have played through it several times over the years (yes I've done all 3 endings) but I completely get where you are coming from in this video. The potential payoff to the initial setup could have been epic and one of rockstars best told stories to date but it really did lack focus in the end and the deathwish ending was more a way to keep everyone happy if they liked all the characters. The fact they never gave us DLC to expand on the world was and still is a huge let down. Im really crossing my fingers that RDR 2 brings things back into focus for us single player lovers. We know how great Rockstar are at making them and it would be ashame if they sell out to the online only culture. Time Will tell but great video man.
Rockstar took notes on this when they did the ending for RDR II lol. The ending of GTA V was seriously the worst, and it made the story the worst, in all of Rockstar games that I've played.
I don't like any of the three main characters tbh, but if I had to choose, I like Michael the best. Trevor and Franklin seem very misplaced. Like how in the hell did Michael and Trevor meet up and become "friends" in the first place. I just don't buy that those two would of ever crossed paths in life to become friends. With Trevor being so sociopathic, spontaneous and wreckless which makes him a terrible choice as a friend let alone a heist partner.
Franklin is literally a filler character and shouldn't have been anything other than a npc in a one off mission. Franklin comes off as having intelligence and being a voice of reason, but always ends up doing the dumbest shit possible. Franklin could certainly fulfilled a leadership role, but Rockstar insisted on shoe horning him into lackey, stereotypical thug like character, all while having a personality that completely contradicts that. Rockstar relied too heavily on the player to maintain a high level of suspension of disbelief throughout the entire game which made the story confusing, unrealistic and lack luster. Forcefully dividing the players attention across three characters (four if you count chop) especially ones your not really invested in, makes it extremely difficult to care about anything that's happening in the story.
Gta v real ending was cut from the game. Franklin was supposed to die and you would play as Lamar, but the actor who played Lamar had to leave the project early due to personal reasons. Therefore the endig was rewritten.
Interesting video, but I don't think Rockstar will abandon single player. It's become a staple of their franchises. Also, it's possible to argue that GTAV's offsetting ending fits with the tone of the game. Take a look at the torture scene and even Trevor's death; realistic and accurate yet uncomfortable and slightly outside our expectations. Killing Trevor or Michael completes the narrative, but realizing the happily ever after ending helps solidify the games relationship with real life where anything can happen- especially the uncomfortable and unexpected.
Just a thought.
I'd love it if we could get a single player DLC expanding upon it

If Rockstar does abandon single player, they have a lot of explaining to do when RDR2 drops. Red Dead Redemption 1 was vastly single player based and they'll lose a lot of fans if their focus is centered on this so called "Red Dead Online". GTAO was somewhat acceptable since at least it worked for a while.
I think Rockstar will most likely focus on single player less, but they definitely won't abandon it. Other games that are abandoning their story modes (such as Black Ops 4) feel like a mess in my opinion. CoD has always been a mindless arcade shooter, but at least you had a plot behind why you were fighting at a certain place and so forth.

Yeah the ending had confused me I didn't understand why all of a sudden they made us choose who to kill especially when they basically had just resolved their conflict
One year after this video and this fear hasn't come to fruition. Red Dead 2 has an amazing single player mode :)
It has a terrible online mode tho that's just as cash grabby and that they are exclusively putting development into instead of an Undead Nightmare II goddamnit.
I don't even understand why R* don't make any major map changes or anything to change the game, fortnite and warzone can do it so why can't a triple A company that has made 7 BILLION DOLLARS on online alone not make any decent update nor single player expansion?

Honestly I haven't seen enough of it to be excited or have any sort of meaningful opinion on it. Dinosaur park maker sounds cool, however the fact that it's on console tells me it's probably not going to be very complex given the trend of Theme Park Games on consoles.

I had bad feelings about the ifruit app and the bawsaq effecting the single player game right from the start. I mean really, why can't I train chop or change my license plate in the game? And why do I need a real internet connection for the single player? Replaying the story is kind of rough, you can't really profit from the assassination missions anymore, and there's very strange glitches everywhere like guns missing clips in cutscenes and clothes missing logos or the writing hovering above the shirt or clipping through. Pretty obvious rockstar hasn't even looked at the single player since gta online gained traction

Hay que agregar que la campaña es mediocre. No supieron diferenciar entre una buena historia con comedia agregada y una historia que es totalmente una parodia de la vida americana promedio. Jamas pasé del 25% porque me aburri rapido.

Never played the single player to be honest, spent all of my time messing around in GTA online. Eventually I bought my "dream" apartment and favorite vehicles without SharkCards.
@Ertan Soner Just saw this because apparently you don't know how to ping, but you need to get a life. Since posting this I've beaten the single player twice and I can say it's pretty solid (not a masterpiece or anything but it's good). Maybe try growing up? Maybe be a bit less toxic? IDK.

Gta v came out at my birthday i bought it. I was steal young so i thought it was cool. Online was cool too and the heists were perfect but since ps4 come out updates were shit. Wtf is doomsday heist i hope red dead redeption 2 is good

i hate the gta 5 story mode its shit its two short its overrated the dialogue it felt forced i rather play the online, when i play the online i just load straight from the prologue and pretend i killed off michael and trevor and franklin . , so my only left character is my online one
Grand Theft Auto 5 felt rushed despite the 5-year gap between GTA 4 and GTA 5 and the 1-year gap between Rock Star's previous title Max Payne 3 and this game. That being said, unlike L.A. Noire, Grand Theft Auto 4, Max Payne trilogy, and the original Red Dead Redemption. This game was honestly garbage. I criticized Grand Theft Auto 4 for the lack of content it left out from previous titles, but even then, the missions, side quests, and side missions were still more enjoyable than this game.
Let me explain. When you are so lazy, that you have to make the only choices in a game's mission structure in the heists, and the ending mission instead of throughout the entirety of the game shows the lack of commitment from freedom to player choice based on the player's experience in the story part of the game. When it is more difficult for you to decide on killing Playboy X or Dwayne knowing both of their weaknesses and backgrounds in GTA IV vs. knowing which ending to go with or which heist route to take in GTA V, it shows how lazy Rockstar has gotten in their storytelling. It says that this game wants you to take the easy ending without a payoff or downfall. There is no conflict in this story unlike GTA 4, or even other Rockstar Titles.
Even Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) is lazy as Hell. It was actually worse, due to the fact, that Rockstar decided to make an open-world gameplay as a 9-part mini-series or TV Show. I love their stories apart from Grand Theft Auto V's story. I still like Red Dead 2's story despite its flaws contradicting the story John told Bonnie at the beginning of Red Dead Redemption 1. The downfall of Red Dead 2 though is laziness from the Grand Theft Auto 5's success and 3 playable character story though. If you are going to make an open-world game, don't make it like L.A. Noire with chapters or L.A. Noire's case, cases, and desks. It lacks conviction when progression feels rushed during a game.
Good video and all but I disagree that the game was building up to one of them dying. They didn't need to die. And shouldn't have died. There was pay off. There was points.
Where was pay off? The central narrative is completely unfocused. Ask me what the story of GTA V is and I can't tell you.

I can tell you the story. Micheal makes a deal to screw and betray his friends so he and his family can live safe and happily. 9 years later his family hates him. Lot of family problems. Franklin is stuck in a life he hates and wants to move forward in his life to better things. He meets Micheal and hopes he can help him do that. After doing a heist, Trevor notices and goes after. He's got his own little story with Trevor Industries and taking over the dessert. Because Micheal broke the deal, all 3 of them are forced to do a lot of jobs for the FIB. Trevor finds out what Micheal did and is understandly pissed. They make up in the end and all take down the villains. There's more too the story than that but this comment would go on forever. There's plenty of videos analysing the story. I'm not saying its a great story, far from it, but it is a satisfying conclusion to the story. The other 2 endings just make them look like assholes.
The story was crap and other than Franklin all the characters were annoying and unlikable.

not only gta 5...i am more than half way thru rdr2 6th chapter and i have no love for arthur's character...the story is bulllshit.
