Such a humble guy. In 1997 I was in a music equipment store in birmingham and walked into a demo room by mistake. I said sorry to a guy who sat at a mixing console in front of me and in the corner of my vision was noel, he sat on a amp arched over a white electric guitar with price tags handing off it. I turned to noel and said, sorry, I didnt know there was someone in here. Noel said, its ok come in. I said oh I dont want to disturb you, and i turned round to walk out. I heard noel say, do us a favour pal, close the door behind ya, nice one. I remember him smiling as he spoke, and that he appeared to be really small. Nice guy.

He's literally the reason my entire life is as it is now. Picked up a guitar and pretended to be Noel every morning as a teenager. Left school, into music college, into bands for 20 years and now I'm a professional musician that has paid his house off (and secured my child's inheritance) by strumming Noel's songs, for the most part. I'd love to thank him one day, but I bet he's heard that tale a million times.

You may have noticed Noel’s “Easy Now” includes the lyric “Your destination comes without a fare”. I think the song, as most of his are, is substantially autobiographical, and is to children, his children.

I'm not a massive fan of Noel's solo stuff, nor was I a massive fan of Oasis either. But I could literally sit and listen to Noel talk about *any subject* all day, and the only way that would get better is if Liam was in the conversation also. Both of those lads are so utterly engaging you could sit in the pub with them, order up a couple of pints and say "Go", and just let them talk at you until closing time and not get bored.
Noel knows his place in British music history, both his and Oasis are guaranteed. And quite rightly.
He's right, nobody will ever do again what Oasis did. No band will ever grab the times, make them their own and drag the whole country along with them the way Oasis did it.
They united us all in rooting for them, and cheering them on.

As he gets older, Noel's interviews are increasingly open and warmer. He's relaxed here, and more reflective about everything. There's more self-deprecation , along with the usual humour too.
I hope he's around as an artist for a few more decades at least, cause his music can really move you. He's blessed , and doesn't take his craft for granted.

    • @steve10
      @steve10 8 місяців тому +8

He is by far the very best raconteur of his generation, I could listen to him all day, most of the stories I've heard before but I'm just happy to listen to him again.
He did a few radio shows with Matt Morgan , they are hilarious, he's got a good sense of humour , I think it was 90 minutes of noel just chuckling with his mate.
Noel got me through my Mom and Dad passing away, he will never know that his stories of meeting Robert De Niro or Jerry Seinfeld kept me from going over the edge and joining them , I'd love to thank him but it would just sound a bit odd to him.
Those people that don't like him just don't get him , he isn't what they think he is.
As you say the older he gets and the more interviews he does where its just about him and not oasis the more he has relaxed.

Saw the man on his birthday. Chicago 2016. His comedy was as great as his music. He might be the funniest man I've ever seen.
Someone asked for Wonderwall, his reply was "This is my gig and I'm in charge of the songs. All you're in charge of is which fucking t shirt you're gonna get on your way out."
    Didn't play Wonderwall.
Moral of the story: Never ask a proper guitarist to play Wonderwall. Especially on his birthday.

Great interview. Very glad Gibson put Noel in their Icon series of videos. I know he has had tons of success and made millions, and people love his music. But specifically as a Guitarist, he is truly underrated. I don't think even he has an understanding of how good he is. Fine, he's not gonna shred like a metal guy or write these intricate parts, but if the criteria of a great guitarist is their unique SOUND, a tone that grabs you and won't let go, then, yeah, the man's one of the greats.
The classic era, with Bonehead playing the barre chords, Noel wailing on his semi-hollow, that gigantic friggin sound, put on any of those tracks and you know instantly who it is. It literally could not be anyone else, even before Liam starts singing. That's a band, and a guitarist, with a SOUND.
