The show takes a deep dive into his 30-plus year career in music as the guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter of Alice In Chains, and as a solo artist.

Cantrell’s career outside of Alice in Chains has consisted of two solo albums and contributions to major film soundtracks. Jerry’s first solo album, Boggy Depot, was released in 1998, followed by his second album Degradation Trip (2002). In addition to his solo artist work, Jerry Cantrell has released music on soundtracks for several films including Spider-Man, The Cable Guy, John Wick 2, Last Action Hero, and The Punisher.
Learn about his growing up around music, his love for Willie Nelson, Elton John and Ace Frehley's Gibson Les Paula and how these artists were influential in his own songwriting for Alice in Chains and his solo projects. Watch as Jerry discusses his first guitars, the legacy of Alice in Chains, restarting the band and how it was Layne who convinced him to sing for Alice in Chains in the first place. We also get some insight into what it was like being in a band during the explosion of the Seattle Grunge scene in the late 80s as well as stories on how songs like 'Rooster' and 'Man in the Box' were written, and what really happened during the MTV Unplugged recording.

it's weird seeing an interview where someone isn't getting interrupted every millisecond. All interviews should be like this, good job on Gibson's part
this doesn't even seem like an interview, just a good ol' storytelling scenario that we all enjoy
its such a great style of interview, edited out the interviewer and questions
Absolutely agree, it’s perfectly executed. More interviewers in other industries should follow suit.
Agree do I my Lord
The only time you should be able to hear the interviewer is when they ask a question, everything else should be nothing but the person being interviewed
Whoever took over the Gibson UA-cam channel direction: Give them a raise.
Agreed. This was especially well done. I dig your channel too man. Keep up the good work👍
I think this wad filmed years ago.
CIRCLE OF TONE. They need to get that guy to oversee the making of the guitars themselves, because they are still overpriced and riddled with QC issues
@@auntjenifer7774 No, if you listened at the end Jerry says they've been together for 33 years became a band in 1987 also he was getting ready to turn 54 and he was born in 1966. So it was early this yr before all of the mask wearing and Jerry's birthday is in March.
So to answer your statement, NO, it was filmed in 2020. Have a great Day!
NMJ plus rainier fog references
I love how all the adults in his life were so supportive when he was a kid. So many creative kids are stifled and made to conform.
Right Mr. Hall sounds like a badass! Lol my kinda teacher. Lol
yeah! We could have been rock stars too!
WOW very true
Yeah but if your kid isn't any good why would you give false hope? That's even more detrimental. When you have a kid with talent you nurture it but most people wanna be rich and famous but lets face it, most people are idiots and will be 'normal' in life and that's fine too
Wish I would have been gifted a guitar at 7 instead of a risky bet on sports.
Nothing will ever beat Jerry and laynes harmonies. Best band to ever have walked this earth. :)
AGREED!!!!
I wouldn't argue with that. I carved their name into my arm when I was 15, and I like them even more 27 years later.
Agreed
William does such a great job with it also. Seeing them live and feeling the frequency was perfect. I didn’t want it to end. Wish they could have play for another hour.
@rexhorning7228 u appreciate that live Jerry takes much more lead - on original AIC songs Layne sung. He should also do the lead on Rooster would love to hear it.
They are really great.
I thought this would be good but I was blown away. Just listening to Jerry uninterrupted telling his story in this format, couldn't ask for better.
Thanks for watching!!!
Excellent, I watched 2 more Gibson TV episodes after Jerry. Really well done.
Well I bet the guys got a lot to say after all this time
@@gibsonguitar great interview! I love not hearing the interviewer at times.
Same. Wow.
Jerry and Layne harmonizing together is heavenly.
For sure

Yea its okay
Jerry is a legend. Unbelievable songwriter.
If that's his house, that record collection is amazing.
I thought that too what a vinyl wall
The room and wall is crazy!! WOW!!
Indeed, they could have hours of more footage just going through that collection....
I was thinking that same thing. But whoever owns that collection of albums has got an amazing collection of music!
U think he is proppin` up in someone else`s house ? haha
of course those r his LPs !!
Jerry is one of the most influential musicians of the '90s and can probably walk into any coffee shop and not be noticed. His solo stuff is the real deal man. Such a talented legend!
Mad respect for all who have the gift, and craft,
Hey! Jeff Hanneman right? On and on south of heaven 🤓🤘🏻
anybody who hasnt listened to AT LEAST Degredation Trip is missing out
Why would that make a difference if someone in a coffee shop didn't notice him?
Can confirm. He came into my bar the other night and I thought he looked familiar but didn't recognize him.
''everybody gives me everything for free when i can totally afford it but when i couldn't nobody gave me anything'' is a great quote
It's the truth though. That's how it works. It's mind boggling. When you're hungry and have that fire in your stomach you get spit on. Ehh... Perhaps the songs are better for it.
Adam Sandler said the same thing in a movie once
To play devils advocate people are more likely to trust you with something if they know you can hold your own
Thats far to true and very twisted as a concept. I got lucky with an aic fan that give me his aic tour shirt for free.😎😱
Janimizer5150 wow you got a like from gibson
Jerry was quoting Edward Van Halen
It's disgusting AIC isn't in the Hall of Fame.
J. Christianson Sr. It’s a bit of a corporate institution it’s run as a business. It’s really not that legit or cool. All the best 👍
totally. It took them almost forever to include The Cure for example. If Alice In Chains ever gets there it would be perfect
Yep. and Soundgarden
He's still got a lot of years ahead of him and will continue to make great music. His career is still active and although he is HOF- qualified, there's no need because he's still active and relevant. He's an automatic shoe-in, but not retired yet. HOF in 10 or 15 years, and we're all looking forward to the music he will make in the meantime.
they are in the Hall of Fame to the people, don't need any corporate body affirmation
Never slagged Layne off once. What a solid dude.
Why would he they were best friends?
Jar Of Flies is such a huge album for me, even if it is just an EP. I could listen to it all day long.
ON REPEAT.
One of the greatest albums ever written. Probably my second favourite only next to Days of the New's green album
i like sap better
It's an unbelievable set of songs, the way the songs flow is superb production.
Jar is the story of my youth... more so than dirt. Every song is just perfect ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank God Layne talked Jerry into singing more. Layne's voice made these great songs perfect, but Jerry's harmony and lead vocal parts make them immortal.
Agreed. The harmonies really made them stand out.
Long ago, I read Jerry saying he has an unremarkable voice. It's true that his voice is not one-of-a-kind, not nearly as unique as Layne's. But he has a nice, warm, soft voice, and he sings in a truthful way, sort of the way he plays guitar. It might have something to do with his country roots. So it totally made sense that he sing, and there was a really nice contrast between their respective voices and singing that made them sound better together. The sound of them is like drinking chili pepper laced hot chocolate. Jerry was the chocolate. 😂
@@Gomba13 Cantrell doesn't have a Southern Hospitality charm laced voice - the fuck man? They're rugged as vocalists, smooth BUT LOL Country roots? Conservatives as a Country majority demographic still hate this band and in no way find them listenable. Have you ever cleaned out your ears ONCE in life?
@@murk4552 Jerry grew up listening to country thanks to his parents. He has talked about how he enjoys that style of music and how there is truth in their lyrics and how he enjoys their storytelling songs. Country music is in his roots, he grew up with it, and it's noticeable in some of his guitar work and it's also inspired his songwriting style. Maybe read slower next time. Nowhere does Gomba13 say Jerry has that country style of singing, nor do they say AIC or Cantrell's work is made for conservatives.
Ain't that the truth. I haven't followed in years, but I have listened to some of their new stuff, but, honestly, to me, that's the definitive sound of Alice in Chains. Even off one of their more recent songs there's a point where the dual vocal harmony was so eerily close (more than normal) to Layne and Jerry that it gave me goosebumps.
I wanna check out his damn vinyl collection behind him.
Hell of a collection!
Hell yes!!
..definetely would be diggin' it too
thats not his house, at least I don't think it is.... Jerry gave a tour of his home in Oklahoma and there was nothing like the room he is in on that tour.
@@monicajean37 .. or he likely has more than one home
“I still never heard someone who sounds like him and I never will”. That’s so true. Layne had such a powerful and unique voice. He was one of the greatest. It’s been 20 years already that we lost him, but he will be forever missed.
Always seems to work out that way doesn't it
I knew there would be people who would watch an hour and sixteen minute video on Jerry and all they would comment on is Layne and how they miss him...
@@quadbox Well, you're just assuming it. I left other comments on this video as I was watching it, about his solo career (which I'm a huge fan), about the new Alice in Chains records. This is just one comment that got some likes and it's showing up better than others. But it's easier to judge people without knowing, isn’t it?
@@LuanaLevenhagen Assuming what? You literally wrote it. I saw another you wrote about Layne too. But that's not the point. Personally, I wish people would let us celebrate Jerry without having to bring up the tragedy of Layne. He is an important part of Jerry's story, but not one that needs to be dragged up on every freaking occasion. Let the man live.
@@quadbox You assumed that I only talked about Layne after watching the whole interview, which is not true. You only found another comment of mine that had some likes and because of that it was easier to find, but I also left comments talking exclusively about Jerry solo career and how I was happy with the new record. Now, I don't see the problem to also comment about Layne in a interview that Jerry himself talked several times about him and Alice in Chains early years. I'm a huge fan of Jerry, his solo work and the new lineup of AIC and the last 3 records. Saw them live twice. I don't go talking about Layne in everything they do or post. But Layne was a fundamental part of Alice in Chains and there's nothing wrong to talk about him and remember him even after all those years. Also, lots of bands end up after the singer dies, so that's why I talked about in the other comment that I was glad they didn’t. Now I know that there are people who only talk about Layne and don't show interest for AIC and Jerry new stuff, but I'm not one of them.
This is proof and a great example of how deeply talented people are still "real people" and how they come from real places and real situations. What an awesome story. I very much enjoyed this. Thank you.
Its amazing how many interviewers have an inflated ego over the questions they ask. I mean I appreciate good questions, but its not about you!
Jerry’s MTV cribs is my favorite… he’s just a farm boy living his dream, hardworking and humble
Did you think they were fake people?
That's Hollywood's people.
This is onlyyy proof, that we all possess talent. It comes to some for certain things Mucha easier than others, that's for sure. But enthusiasm and how bad you want something...it's everything.the only thing when it comes to doing whatever it is that one does that brings joy
who knew talented humans were human i thought they were genetically engineered by aliens
Great uninterrupted interview. This is what us fans want, no annoying interviewer just the maestros of their trade telling their story in their own time. Thank you.
I wouldn't mind Howard Stern interviewing him.
@@brucelee4996 it would be Howard talking for an hour
I admire professional musicians but I also admire media people whose job it is to interview them. The true professionals among them are those who know how to make them talk all while making the conversation about the musician and taking up as little room in it themselves as possible. It's fine to see and hear the interviewer, as long as they are professionals. I do have a few favourite interviewers, you see and hear them but all they really do is highlight the interviewee. Not all interviewers are annoying as you say.
Most definitely! Don't even bring up Howard Stern. It's disgusting that whole interview. I didn't no Metallica did that to Layne at a show. Karma comes back around, James had to go to rehab just recently. It can happen to anyone, it doesn't pick favorite's. Never condemn addict's you have no clue the hell they're in. True that
Jerry and Laynes harmonies are the best of the best.
Jerry’s voice sounds so simple and pure, while Layne’s was so ragged and powerful. They were perfect for each other.
Without Jerry Layne was too much, for sure. Best of the best
Unparralleled in rock music!
they (harmonies)are haunting, ugly, rotten but they're best of the best agreed.
Ansofuckinglutely. Your mom was gorgeous Jerry. Bless that your mom’s boyfriend was aware of your brewing talent...
Dude I love the story about how they made Layne jealous enough to join the band by auditioning other singers. Priceless
It's great that he remembers, and pays tribute to his high school music teachers. Such respect.
I've always said that Jerry Cantrell is the secret weapon that all other grunge bands lacked, and I still stand by that. Not that I don't love the other grunge bands, but what Jerry brings to the table is so unique and special.
Despite the era, I never really felt like Alice and Garden were grunge... Something about them eclipsed that genre. Too heavy (Alice)... Too complex/proggy (Garden)...
AIC was not grunge! They had a much darker and heavier sound. But at the same time had the best duo of vocalists! They made the most amazing music together! RIP Layne Staley! Your amazing voice will always live on!
Tim Hauck "AIC was not grunge. They had a much darker and heavier sound." The dark/heavy sound IS grunge. "Man In The Box" is as perfect an example of the grunge genre that you could ever find.
He's far more than the secret weapon. Jerry has always been the main force in AIC. He wrote 90% of the material and is the biggest component of their sound.
Yes! Jerry has just got it. Idk what "it" is but he's got it.
This could be another 3 or 4 hours and I'd probably still want more.

I love this interview format! Its really like hearing Jerry just telling personal stories with a kick ass soundtrack, which is what im here for. Such a gifted, and i still think underrated musician, but at the same time such a relatable human being.

The MTV unplugged set is why I'm watching this video. I recently discovered it and it's sent me down this Alice in chains rabbit hole. It's one of the best live performances in music history along with queen live aid. Seeing Layne sing with that type of emotion and soul was just incredible.

This is the best interview ever. I was so heartbroken & teary towards the end when Nutshell started playing. Jerry Cantrell & his music has inspired me in ways I can't even begin to describe. AIC has helped me get out of my bed & live. My heart heals and breaks every time I listen to AIC because I know how special they really are. RIP Layne & Star. There is nothing more inspiring than seeing someone that has chased their dream and nailed it.
No doubt.
The harmony of Jerry and Layne's voices together is what made Alice In Chains unique, imo. Their secret weapon.
Hands down perfect harmonics man. Sounded heavenly

Nothing quite like it before or since
Layne had the weirdest harmonies he picked some weird notes but wow he was amazing it's what made them . Seattle sound with that harmony is insane !! It is what had set them apart

Gained huge respect for Gibson with this video. Not once did I feel like I was being "pitched" a Gibson. It was all about the history and background of an Idol of mine. It's awesome that he's now a Gibson artist, but it's just one piece of a big, complex artist's puzzle and life story. Mad props to Gibson for this - very classy.

Just as long. Maybe the deal with g&l inhibited promo shots with his Gibson’s but if you’ve seen aic live you’ve seen st least a couple Les pauls come and go through the set.
He is a legend. I have listened to AIC and his solo work since 1992. What a great interview.
With out any doubt a legend... This group of guys saved me more then once. Thank you for the years of amazing music, your talent will never fade..
Jerry C, I don't think, has any idea how much of a badass we think he is.
Most GOOD musicians don’t hold their self in high esteem.
If you watch interviews of Chris Adler, Scott Weiland, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, etc., they’re normally fairly humble and just want to talk about their love for music and their lives around it.
Patrick Bateman that’s pretty hardcore to say dude..I’ve read and saw documentaries of the guys saying they would go buy Layne’s condo and even stand and yell for him but he shut them out. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE Layne..he is my favorite member, along with Cantrell. It does suck that he had to be found in such a manner...damn..I’m so sorry Layne. Imagine how they might feel js

@Patrick Bateman Sounds really racist.
Patrick Bateman that’s not even accurate, you sound like an idiot and a racist. Layne wouldn’t accept help from anyone in the band. Layne Jerry Sean and mike loved each other, those guys were brothers

@@evilmachines9929Ha! Yeah. Of course I did. But here's what I mean: I saw AIC four times live with Layne. And that's what I'm talking about ... extreme restraint even when he (Jerry) was quite angry. I saw the second to last show Layne ever did, 7/2/1996 opening for KISS. My respect for señor Cantell increased by 9000
*Cantrell
I love the fact that this is about the artist and mentioning another brand is not a marketing "no-go" zone. It's just an authentic story. Thanks Gibson!
Yea man,you nailed that on the head...why I love these interviews.
Yeah I thought the same. Maybe all the "psychological consequences" the pandemic is bringing forth are kind of making those boundaries go and let the artists express themselves without self-censoring somehow.
Well, he does start by saying he wanted a Les Paul and cringed at everything else he got! 😉
This made me want a G&L for sure.
That wall of vinyl; Jesus Christ, that's impressive
I couldn’t stop staring at it!!!
Could feed your eyes on that all day 😂
JEEEEEEEEEEEEESUS CHRIST!!!! Deny your maker
It's a god like collection
Plot twist...its wallpaper 😂😂😂
I'm really glad Alice in Chains did't end up after Layne's passing. It was never the same, of course, but they made great records and I was able to see them live twice and at first I was skeptical but It was really really great and I'm just happy these amazingly talented people are still creating great music
I wish the same could be said for soundgarden. What a waste of kim thayil, Ben shepherd and matt camerons talents
That first triple set reunion tour was a great performance and probably most engaged & emotional I’ve ever seen an entire theater, artists & audience both. Quite an experience.
Mike Inez is an awesome bassist. I just wish Mike Starr would've beat his demons and joined them for a reunion. He was a wild man onstage!
Still commenting about Layne 🤣
@@quadboxforever
This is one of the best interviews on any subject matter I've ever seen. Kudos to the crew who made it and obviously Jerry for his thoughtful and open answers.
That footage of Layne tracking We Die Young is gold!
Truly an Icon & I’m glad to able to call him a Friend!! F#$k Yeah JC...
Thanks for watching Brother Rex!!!!!
So cool you commented on a fellow musician. Thank you for all you've provided to the metal community. Long live Pantera and AIC!
Right on Rex. Hope all is well in these dark times. Much love
Rex is an incredible bass player. Revolution Is My Name is an absolute monster 4 string masterpiece
You are a badass Rex! Pantera's Legacy is none other then the cream of the crop. You are the shoulders that the metal world is standing on now brother!!!!
Love this and such an amazing story. I’ve read their books, saw their concerts and interviews, seen them live and this is one of the best. Love them always, miss Layne too. Jerry is a master at what he does. What a gift to the musical world ❤️
Thanks for watching guys!
Jerry always was a cool dude he seems to be in a great place.... Rip layne and mike...
Dude, Jerry's memory is impeccable
So fitting Layne's generosity and human nature with Jerry would lead to AIC.
bigblocklawyer 🖤
This is an amazing interview. God damn that vinyl collection is my absolute dream
Jerry is such a cool and humble man. I really enjoyed this interview and am happy to say I've been a fan of the band ever since I first heard them
My band had the privilege of touring with Jerry for a couple months during the Degradation Trip era. The dude overflows with the most down-to-earth kindness you'll ever encounter. Such a generous and gracious host. Icon is an understatement!
Thats amazing. Really, as a guitar player I am continuously listening and learning from jerrys work. I'm glad he is finally getting his recognition. Many of us in his alice days did not realize he actually sings in most of their catalog. And jar was mostly his work in terms of arranging composing, it was his baby. But so many of us singled out layne because he was the face of this band. I guess thats like the Beatles having the face of Lennon. So most of jerrys recognizable success came after aic disbanded and he finally stepped out of the shadows and produced boggy and his solo masterpiece d trip. As jerry now has toured and played with all his lengdary guitar 🎸 heros, he earned the right to be seen as an icon. But through all that he is so grounded, humble, and continues to thank those who put him there. That you got that chance to tour with him, thats incredible. An experience you'll always be grateful for and can relive in your mind as you grow older. As a musician thats priceless. I hope you still perform yourself as being a musician is an phenomenal 🎁 one must share with the 🌎. Good luck to you, keep rockin😎
What was the name of your band
@@BrosepherStoned I fronted Mad at Gravity.
@@JLynnJohnston Degradation Trip is one of my favorite records of all time, totally underrated. What an experience that must of been.
I saw that tour in Glasgow and the support band was comes with the fall who also played as Jerry's band if I remember correctly. Did your band do the US tour?
If Jerry's guitars were any heavier he would have fell through the stage. All hail the Riff Lord.
All Hail!!!
You saw my post saying this exact quote didn't you...😎
HAIL!!!
Hail 🙌
Just imagine if Dio Black Sabbath made an album with both Tommy and Jerry. The Riffazord would be created
This is an amazing piece of work. I love it and it will live in history
Thanks for watching!
That wall of albums 😲🤤
"Jerry, we'd like to sit and talk with you about your entire life for a few hours. Here's the most uncomfortable chair we could find..."
Hahahahaha
@Gage Allen damn you, sir, you beat me to the punchline
@Gage Allen damnit. I had that locked and loaded. Fine. You win this time.
"Lol."
Sit in the god am chair jerry
His house, his chair.
Jerry is a quintessential renaissance man. He said the music he’s makes in Alice belongs to anyone who listens to it, too. In all my life there are no other songs I have so deeply felt, lived and carry on with more than from Alice In Chains - thier music/videos take me back, move me forward and rock it back again. I’m with you guys til the end.
Same here bro..til the end
Christopher Strebeck: The lyrics, vocals, guitars, drum and bass lines. Thete will never be another! AIC til The End! (Likewise)
Me too
Shawn Patricio We’ve were young during a time music was changing. The emotion. I’ve never read words like that before. Lyrics that hit that hard. Backed by riffs made my hair stand and my skin crawl. I was young at the right time. The time when Alice In Chains and Soundgarden change music forever. I rock them when need to connect with those time. To remember when I was so young and free. Cursed and broken. Today, I am because I never gave up on that lifestyle: Love Hate Love, Brother! Thanks for writing, Shawn!
Во это да! Никогда, невидел такую огромную коллекцию виниловых пластинок! 😊 🎸🔥
36:19 the outtake of Layne on We Die Young is priceless. It's like his vocal comes in a bucket drawn from inside a deep well.
@Jerry Cantrell I'm doing lusciously, tootsie-wootsie. How are you today, Nona Weissbaum? I read the De Sola biography last Spring.
@Jerry Cantrell I jamma lamma'd in tha subway. I rule. What did you do?
And this is why we shouldn't cut music programs from public schools. We should actually make them mandatory.
In the interview, Jerry said rocking out in music class was a huge joy and shaped the direction he went in.
Well said. You saved me the trouble of saying it. 👍🏽
He's so down to earth. It really broke my heart that some of the people he talks about having these amazing relationships with (Layne, EVH, Chris Cornell) are people who have passed.
And Dime...
Jerry’s relationship with Eddie is such an amazing friendship story.
Dude... this guy is so freakin cool. Ive watched this entire interview, and its explained so much, like how they all truly got together, or like hiw and why their Sap Ep came to be, and his relationship with his father, and how he rebuilt the relationship back by seeing things thru his dads eyes. What i wouldnt give to be around their age, in Seattle, back during this big music explosion, with my guitar.
"Everybody gives me everything for free now when I can totally afford it, when I couldn't afford it nobody gave me anything" 00:40:45
God damn, that's deep.. I love all Jerry's stories of friendship and gratitude
Dave grohl said the same thing
It's not deep.
Thats life for many folks out the in the US. When your young just strting out especially with kids and need money we scrape by. We save for retirement and have wealth when all the kids out of the house. But I think to really appreciate what you have in life, you need to work for it
The wealthy and famous all say that.
Strange definition of deep, I’ve heard dozens of people make this observation, it’s more common knowledge than deep
Love you, Jerry!
Woah
Love your profile pic hahah
30 years later......im still in love with Jerry ❤❤❤
1. aw. his mom was beautiful.
2. it's a sin that AIC isnt the Music Hall of Fame. they are SO underrated, especially Layne's voice. he was a beast.
a magical, talented, gorgeous beast. god, I miss him. ❤
3. is that Jerry's home? it's so beautiful and cozy.
U got that EXACTLY right about Layne!!!!!!!!
So underrated. This guy is a living legend. Can't even imagine how his life was tough and he still managed to get where he is today. Time passes and Jerry is becoming classy, but his tone still remain powerful and kickin. Thank you, Gibson!
Arthur i agree with you. He is so underrated. I remember in my teen years when i first heard AIC it didnt get me at the time. Now many years later i think this guy is one of the best guitarrists ever. He plays with feeling, his guitar tone is amazing, heavy, huge. One of my heroes.
Gibson TV feature him in his own episode, along side Bob Rock and Tony Iommi… let alone the fact he is widely celebrated and respected, especially amazing for a musician who plays such dark and non-mainstream music. So no, not underrated, but legend, yes.
@@amifterbifty I kinda disagree. Just look at Nirvana and how they made success, Alice In Chains deserves the same recognition, and don't forget about how much shit they went on Clash of Titans tour, no band in the planet were so persistent to make a full tour with everyone throwing shit at them. Also, I say underrated because the newest albuns are criticized by a lot of people that say "no Layne no Chains". This is so disrespectful for his work and they can't accept the fact Cantrell is the soul of the band. Not to mention his solo stuff, which speaks a lot and not everyone knows. So for me yes, underrated.
Arthur some good points there - depends how you look at it really.
@Arthur True. They’re new stuff is actually good but when you’ve had THE Layne as your lead singer in the band nothing can come close. But I think if Duval had always been the lead singer then people would love their new stuff.
I would just like to thank that teacher who taught jerry to do acapella. His and laynes voice was the perfect match.
Probably one of my favorite interviews. I have a newfound love and admiration for aic and Jerry Cantrell ❤. The story of his life is amazing and his resilience , calm, and optimism when faced with all these obstacles is remarkable. I so wish I would have paid more attention to this band in my early teens, when the original members were all intact. Happy Jerry, Sean, and Mike I still write and tour.
@ 10:45 mark -- I really hope Jerry knows that this is how WE feel about his music. It goes far beyond our regular abilities to express, and can hit a person extremely hard, in good ways and bad. AIC is very important to me.
Jerry Cantrell is a cross between Tony Iommi and Keith Richards when it comes to riffs. I idolize/worship this man
ummmm jerry nor alice in chains is “underrated”. Underrated bands dont make it 30+yrs
I agree ! you can tell he was very influenced by Iommi .. probably more than any other player , as far as his riffs . He took that style and managed to put his own style on it . Love AIC
@@tysoncott7402 Except Rush. Getting into the Rock and Roll HOF. Took them 40 years. Others, IMHO, didn't deserve it as much. My 2 Cents.

The "Icons" series by Gibson is great. Keep up the good work! :)
Thanks for watching! More to come.
I miss Layne. And Kurt, and all those guys who made part of my youth in the 90’s. 😕😢
Yeah man! At almost 50 now, I find myself, more and more, just sitting back and listening to playlists of our lost musical treasures. Many of these dudes laid very important foundational blocks of my younger teen-20-something life. Powerful it is that still today when I hear certain songs......I am taking right back to a time that I will most likely never experience again. Back then there was only the future of endless possibilities. Time, the great equalizer.
Perhaps it's me but it seems there is also a 1967 club too. Think about it, Kurt, Layne, Scott Weiland, Anna nicole smith, Chris Benoit ,eddie guerrero ,etc,
Chris Cornell 😎
Jar of Flies , In my opinion is the greatest LP ever recorded.
It's been my email for 17 years
You're right! .... and that's really the LP where AIC really reached their highest point in both ways: spiritually and musically! ....
Ep)
At 8 songs, it's an EP/LP hybrid. It's my favorite too. I love that they ended the interview with Nutshell playing in the background.
can't forget Def Leppard Hysteria, that's got to be the best rock album of the 80's
This is the most I've ever heard Cantrell talk about anything. I've ALWAYS loved his music and his songs, and like I suspected, he's cool a.f. too.
Have Agnesi do a video on Jerry's guitar collection!
Thanks for watching!
What do you mean? Jerry talks too much
Props to this documentary.
It told Jerry's compelling story for anyone who really loves this band. It doesn't ignore the very often (sometimes unfairly) overshadowing that is Layne, it gives a fresh look into the other member(s) of Alice In Chains. Take a moment to think about this.
If it was Cantrell that had died, how much of an impact would that have made to the soul of the band as well?
Jerry is not only an Icon he is a Legend.
