Thanks very much. This was very helpful because almost every other hit that I clicked on from a Google search of how to descale a Kuerig 12 cup coffee maker returned hits dealing with other models. I really appreciated your detailed and clear explanations, even when you ran into unexpected issues, such as the descaling light continuing to flash even after running the intial descaling and water cycle and then re-running the cycle after adding more water. In my case, I must have re-filled the reservoir to the top with water at least five times but the descaling light remained blinking. However, after watching more of your video, I realized that I may have refilled the cannister becore it was empty enough and, on the fifth or sixth attempt to have water run through the cycle, I let the water run to the bottom of the cannister and, sure enough, the descaling light and machine turned off, exactly as happened to you at the end. So, I appreciated your surprise and learned from your patience. Thanks again for the very helpful and practical video.
Thank you so much for this video! I didnt know how to turn it into descale mode and I didnt have the manual anymore. You explained everything very well!
Hot tip; the official descaling solution is based on citric acid. You can get citric acid in the canning section at Walmart or the grocery store for way cheaper. Add a tablespoon to four cups of water and add that to the reservoir and that's all you gotta do. As good as the official solution, almost as cheap as vinegar. You're welcome.
A breakdown of what I did and what happened to me: 1. Filled the reservoir with 1 full bottle of descaler and 1 full bottle of water. 2. Press 8 and 12 for 3 seconds to enter descale mode. The 12 and Descale lights started blinking. 3. Pressed 12 to run 12 oz of descaler solution through the machine. 4. I was able to get a second 12 oz of descaler out of this. 5. At this point, the reservoir was very low on fluid (normally at the point where the "Add Water" light comes on). However, the add water light never came on. So I hit the 12 oz as per instructions, despite my intuition that the machine was low on fluid. The reservoir drained and then started to steam excessively, as it didn't have any fluid to run. (This seems to be the opposite of @Just A Dad's issue where the "Add Water" light turned on when there was clearly enough solution in the reservoir to run another 12 oz - what a waste of descaler for him). 6. I rinsed and refilled the reservoir to start rinse section of descale mode, but at this point, the machine just turned off on its own and exited descale mode. When I turned the machine back on, the "Descale" light was back on solid, indicating that the machine still requires descaling. Since I didn't have any more descaling solution, and since I had already run a full bottle through the machine, I restarted the entire descaling process with just water. This time the descaling process went smoothly - the "Add Water" light came on at the proper time, and I kept running 12 oz cups through until the "Descale" light went out. 7. The next morning I went to use the machine. The reservoir was filled with fresh water. I used the machine as I normally would - open the lid, place a pod in it, closed it, the 8, 10, and 12 oz cup lights blinked, and I pressed the size I desired (12 oz). No coffee was made - the water level in the reservoir did not drop - it was not pulling any water. I tried several troubleshoots and nothing worked. 8. I called Keurig Customer Support. They had me troubleshoot the machine with directions over the phone, including replacing the reservoir with clean water, and cleaning the needles with a paperclip (like in your cleaning videos). Nothing worked, and they deemed the machine defective. They are sending me a new machine. All in all, I have not had a single issue with this machine until the descaling, so I figure something malfunctioned at that point. It’s getting me to think, especially that yours asked for “Add Water” after only one 12 oz pull of descaling solution, that descale mode is inconsistent at best, and will cause your machine to break at worst. It might be better to continue descale the old fashioned way - by just running descaler through the machine on the 12 oz function, but don’t enter descale mode. Then just live with that light taunting you. I’m glad that Keurig is sending me a replacement machine, but this is none-the-less frustrating that it broke so easily after only 6 months.
@@JustADad thank you for taking the time and energy to show us all these product solutions! Too often people get jipped out of their money, and have to throw stuff out. You're saving people money, and bettering the environment
I think the water light came on because when you filled that bottle with water, there is so much sun in there you may have thought it was full when it was just sud
@7:09 you don't need to dump the descale solution just add a bit of water, make it 13 14oz in the container, and press the 12oz button. THEN rinse and add clean water.
Thank you, very helpful video. I must have ran more than 10 descale cycle, and still in descale mode, it seem I cannot get out of descale mode. Any suggestions?
Could you tell me how to access and clean the check valve. I have tried descaling and there is still no water and the machine cuts off. From videos of other models they have concludes the check valve is stuck but I am unable to access it in this model. Grateful for any guidance.
Thank you for this. Saves those of us who don't RTFD.
I've watched this video for 3 descales. Probably will for a few more lol. Thank you for posting this it's very helpful and much appreciated.
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks to the video my first try I was able to descale my K Express kudos highly recommend to watch

Thanks for the video! This was really helpful! Used the same descaling solution and it used almost all of it in the first round which was good!
Glad it helped!
Great. I have also found a product called Kup-Lift to stop that annoying splashing.
Good to know!
Mine didnt come with instructions, thats why im here
Thanks Dad!! That was very helpful 😊
Glad it was helpful!

does it sense the add water when it runs low on water? I would call Keurig for sure
My descale button is on solid when I turn it on, but it doesn’t flash the 12oz when I press the 8 and 12oz together

Very very good. Thank you
So nice of you
What’s the vinegar:water ratio?
Thanks Dad
1 to 1 ratio
Great Video bro, Quick question? Did you do the video on this machine with vinegar?
Dude just use a cup of vinegar and a cup of water. 1:1 ratio. Boom
I added the solution and 1.5 bottles of water and I only had to rinse 3 times
Well shit guess what? My K Express has 6, 8, & 10oz buttons! Thanks for the vids tho they are helpful. I am another one who can’t just RTFD.
I wouldn't have dumped the remaining solution. I would have added water and let it rinse again.
That takes alot of water to descale.
Tons of blah blah. Go to 3:41
