    the song ''Falling away from me'' is a direct followup from this video if your interested then you see how real they are with topics. edit warning with the song Daddy ppl will suggest that really fast and scare ppl away from korn cause thats not a song its a expression of pain. worth it to listen to but its the darkest song i ever heard. but check the wiki on that one.

      Yeah I'm gonna add to this, this is a real warning, don't go into it blind unless you want a real honest reaction to it. It's HARROWING. Seriously. Like, TW for child sa. Guy went through it then sang about it and legit breaks down while it's recorded and the band keeps on playing. You have been warned, I hope you read your comments

    • @TheBunnyb0y
      @TheBunnyb0y 10 місяців тому +14

      Yeah as much as i like a honest reaction without research, these peeps are right, mostly agree with the "scare away" part, i wouldnt suggest listening to that track too early, but definetly react to it at some point.. Fair warning though its a bit difficult

    • @glendaly3344
      @glendaly3344 10 місяців тому +10

      @TheBunnyb0y I like an honest reaction without research, but Daddy is not a song that should be reacted to without research. Firstly because you do need to be prepared for that song. Secondly because it's not a song where you have to go searching for the secret hidden meaning (you could read into "when I awake" at the end, and how there is a religious undertone of that song and the main song, and how they fight each other. Or you could read into how "when I awake" is about waking up and seeing a face, and how a lot of survivors of child SA will relate to being woken up in the night). But the rest is not very hidden message kinda lyrics.
      I do think it would be interesting to hear a therapists thoughts on this song, but that's because it is such an important song for me.

      I watched a video about “daddy” in particular, apparently the band recorded all the instrumental bits to the song and Davis did the vocals last and told the band NOT to interrupt it, they had absolutely no clue what the song was going to be about and were crushed when he broke down

    • @glendaly3344
      @glendaly3344 10 місяців тому +2

      @user-wt2zo6xd6f I think the band didn't know that the song had such meaning to JD, but they had played and recorded the song together before. A version of Daddy is on Korns demo "Neidermeyer's Mind".
      The demo version is quiet different, and not as emotionally charged (to put it mildly). So I think the band knew what the song was about, but until it became obvious that the song was incredibly personal to Jonathan, they had no idea of the significance.

      @@FurlongStrongPersonalWell, Twist is a testament to what she was saying, because as Life Is Peachy was rolling around, they (the record label) wanted a song that they could use as a single, no swearing, inoffensive, simple beat, oh and do that cool scat thing you did on the first record etc., so Korn wrote and sent them Twist, which is entirely just Jonathan doing scat and saying Twist in the middle and end over a funky beat. 😂

    I can’t wait for you to watch “Falling Away From Me”, it picks up immediately after the end of this video. Fun fact the series of numbers at the end of this video is a direct reference to the master disk serial number for the Freak on a Leash album. Fitting that the song is about his experience with the music industry and the sign at the end says “No Trespassing” followed by the reference number for the studio’s master copy of the album.

    Interesting thoughts about the scat singing part! The stuff about creation reminds me a lot about Kurt Vonnergut's famous quote, that goes something like "Practice any art, […] no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow."
    As a therapist, I guess it would be interesting for you to check out Korn's song Daddy. But be aware, it's about child abuse, and it can be quite traumatic for an unprepared listener. It's extremely intense, to say the least!

    The sounds he was making is called scatting. It's a focal of jazz vocals. The vocalist uses his voice to improvise melodies. Scatman John and Scatman Crothers were two of the most famous scatterers.

    Wow! I’ve made a living as a caricature artist for the past 17 years, and you made me think about the act of creating in such a different way 🤯 I always feel the most at peace and confident and present when I’m creating (whether it’s drawing, photographing, making music, video editing, writing, and whatever else grabs my attention), and it’s really gotten me through life even when times are tough. I see creativity as being the fire of life, even though most people don’t think of themselves as being creative. We use creativity in forming a unique perspective, building relationships, and creating a life for ourselves❤️

    You mention feelings of futility around 2:50 or so, and yeah, these guys swam in that pretty constantly.
    The trick for me was to reject expectations and embrace hedonism!
    also, new sub here, really enjoying your analysis of music!

    Korn, like so many metal bands truly speak about the feelings of our lifetimes... Why they're so powerful and so beloved by us metal heads.
    I was wondering as I walked my dog if you have reacted to working class hero, I'd recommend the greenday cover because the power in that is always more than the original to me.

    I once created something that to proof myself that I can, my vision is open, I got more confident and have purpose of life knowing atleast what I love to do. Then I messed up, got humiliate, aggravated on my mistake, decline my apologise, judge me who I am , got rejected and kick out while I confused what the f is going on. Deep down I feel from what happened is unfair that I don't have human right to fight back and explain, I don't have skill to know right time and right place back then so I been naive on bully but put my anger on the one who care me instead. All I can do to ease my pain from past trauma is blame people back then it's they fault. But another part of me still want to believe it's not that person fault.
    Idk, I confused with these feeling, is it's a sign that I should forget about them because deep down Idk what intention why they be good to me or should I still believe that person all what happened is just misunderstood and hope that we can understand one day. But that day will never come since I can't contract that person anymore, last conversation is a heavy right side, maybe I want to talk with them again with the difference perspective, apologise again and hearing that they receive my apologise. What ever the end is, so I can move forward without throw away my dream together with my past.

      From TheTogah: @applejag_panzer8963 Thanks so much for being here.
      It can be so hard to know what to do about the past. It can also feel like part of us is stuck there if we don't do something about it.
      One thing that helps me the most in these situations is asking myself if I have truly changed, and if my perspective is truly different. From there if the answer is yes, and I find myself wanting to apologize I strongly consider doing so but also realize that the other person's answer could be accepting, or positive, or it could be something negative depending on their perspective and how they feel. If I can accept whatever result may come I will usually reach out, if I can't I move forward knowing that I have changed for the better and it eases some of that pain I have internally.
      But, I think that you have the best answer to that in yourself! Whatever you decide we are here to support you! Stay strong and great job coming to a better perspective regardless of what you choose to do with this.

      From Micro: @applejag_panzer8963 I do hope that you will find some closure regarding what happened, whether it would be through honest communication with this person, or on your own. It sounds like this conflict felt like a real downfall on your end, and I can only imagine how difficult it was to feel all these conflicting emotions. If anything, it's only human but to reject the fault on others, especially when we feel like we're having no support or no room to make mistakes. Sometimes we fail, and it's hard to look at that reality without feeling a huge sense of discomfort, which can sometimes turn out to be expressed through anger and pushing others away.
      Through all of this, I hope you will also forgive yourself. I don't know the specifics of your situation of course, but you absolutely deserve to give yourself some grace and be patient with yourself. I understand personally how painful it can be to carry on struggles of your past with you. As if there's just on way to find any healing or closure regarding what happened - it keeps on chasing you like your own shadow, and you can't run away from it either.
      If anything, we believe in you here and in your ability to heal from what happened, step by step. It's not a sudden process, but you're asking the right questions and there is a real opportunity there for you to learn from what happened, heal, and reinvest into your dreams at the same time. :heart:

    I really like your interpretation of the speaking in tongues section!
    The video is really excellent in ways nobody would catch on first watch. Yes, it's "Hey we have this tech we'd like to play with," but there's more and I think you'd LOVE it. Here's the run down from this OG KoRn fan:
    So, the song is about how his music is essentially him splaying out his pain for artistic expression... and money. And how that money starts to really screw it up because record companies and the industry as a whole (which was arguably at the height of its explicit oppressiveness in those days because it basically functioned like Hollywood) just want to beat singles out of you for their own financial gain. To an extent, you're their trained monkey, and when your monkey trick is to unveil your worst, most painful moments (as in a lot of KoRn's songs), you can start to feel like you're their sideshow. $18 to come hear the freak on a leash, and they'll be in town next August if you have $60 to spare.
    The natural question you might have after interpreting those lyrics is: "Damn! Why even make music then?"
    In the video, the kids at the start are playing in a childlike, cartoon space. The girl is carelessly hop scotching on the edge. The reasonable adult who tries to protect her accidentally discharges a bullet at her (trauma), which reeks havoc in the real world. It eventually reaches Jon Davis, in some sort of manifested world of the image of KoRn hanging on the walls of a fan's room. The number of bullet holes in this room make it clear this isn't the first bullet that's made its way here. He digs for his most primal music and turns the bullet around on the world. By the time it gets back to the little girl, the trauma has been neutralized to a controllable state. Even the little girl is able to stop the bullet now, and she carefully and respectfully returns it to the adult before going off to play some more
    THIS is why Jonathan Davis continues to make music: Unfurling his very real pain to the world might make him a freak, but it helps others cope with their own trauma
