- Опубліковано 4 тра 2024
- Therapist uses Freak On A Leash to discuss how painful it can be to feel like you are in a cycle of pain that you are not in control of. She discusses how difficult it can be to feel like you are stuck and others are in control of your life. She talks about how creating art can be a powerful way to fight against this hopelessness.

the song ''Falling away from me'' is a direct followup from this video if your interested then you see how real they are with topics. edit warning with the song Daddy ppl will suggest that really fast and scare ppl away from korn cause thats not a song its a expression of pain. worth it to listen to but its the darkest song i ever heard. but check the wiki on that one.
Yeah I'm gonna add to this, this is a real warning, don't go into it blind unless you want a real honest reaction to it. It's HARROWING. Seriously. Like, TW for child sa. Guy went through it then sang about it and legit breaks down while it's recorded and the band keeps on playing. You have been warned, I hope you read your comments
Yeah as much as i like a honest reaction without research, these peeps are right, mostly agree with the "scare away" part, i wouldnt suggest listening to that track too early, but definetly react to it at some point.. Fair warning though its a bit difficult
@TheBunnyb0y I like an honest reaction without research, but Daddy is not a song that should be reacted to without research. Firstly because you do need to be prepared for that song. Secondly because it's not a song where you have to go searching for the secret hidden meaning (you could read into "when I awake" at the end, and how there is a religious undertone of that song and the main song, and how they fight each other. Or you could read into how "when I awake" is about waking up and seeing a face, and how a lot of survivors of child SA will relate to being woken up in the night). But the rest is not very hidden message kinda lyrics.
I do think it would be interesting to hear a therapists thoughts on this song, but that's because it is such an important song for me.
I watched a video about “daddy” in particular, apparently the band recorded all the instrumental bits to the song and Davis did the vocals last and told the band NOT to interrupt it, they had absolutely no clue what the song was going to be about and were crushed when he broke down
@user-wt2zo6xd6f I think the band didn't know that the song had such meaning to JD, but they had played and recorded the song together before. A version of Daddy is on Korns demo "Neidermeyer's Mind".
The demo version is quiet different, and not as emotionally charged (to put it mildly). So I think the band knew what the song was about, but until it became obvious that the song was incredibly personal to Jonathan, they had no idea of the significance.
I have been a lifelong KoRn fan since 1997 and how you explained Jon's scating at 4:40 was the most profound way I've ever heard it. Wow!
This is the first time I have ever heard him referred to as Jon and not Johnathan
I am right there with you. I feel like we understood it on spiritual level, but ever would have been able to put it in words.
@@FurlongStrongPersonalWell, Twist is a testament to what she was saying, because as Life Is Peachy was rolling around, they (the record label) wanted a song that they could use as a single, no swearing, inoffensive, simple beat, oh and do that cool scat thing you did on the first record etc., so Korn wrote and sent them Twist, which is entirely just Jonathan doing scat and saying Twist in the middle and end over a funky beat. 😂
nah she made it up, no explanation for the scanting, it is just KORN's way and nothing else
Exactly... We've always felt this part of Jonathan's singing like freedom, like permission of being ourselves, but never had the capacity of putting it in words like she so masterfully did ❤
The Korn rabbit hole is a fun one. They are legends.
It's all fun, and then you come across "daddy"
You nailed the meaning with the music industry, thats exactly what the song is about.
The sequel to this song "Falling Away From Me" will be perfect for you to react to.
😂😂 nice joke
@yt_dubsss5959 not a joke 🤣 the singer explains it. Korn is the soundtrack of my life.
100%
Don’t listen to daddy because it will make you cry
No it isn't 😂
Oooh... I like that. The scat section being the creation of something nobody else can understand, thus nobody can take away from him. That's deep! Very insightful!
‘’If you are able to create art, you are able to create hope’’ i just loved that
I second this. The Renaissance alone was based on this principle.
Let the KoRn rabbit hole begin, please please please do as many KoRn songs as you can I love how you dissect the lyrics and analyze songs, you're spot on with everything you say keep em coming 👌👍👍👍👍👍🤟🤟🤟🤟
korn has helped me alot in the last 20 years. i think it saved me from really hurting myself physically. i think you understand if you hear more songs from korn. the lyrics and expression is pure.
Korn is great. i am glad they can help so many people
.. most of korn song is about loneliness and depression..
Same for about 30 years
absolutely true and I could not agree with you more it's nice to know there are more like us out there
Jesus saves
I can’t wait for you to watch “Falling Away From Me”, it picks up immediately after the end of this video. Fun fact the series of numbers at the end of this video is a direct reference to the master disk serial number for the Freak on a Leash album. Fitting that the song is about his experience with the music industry and the sign at the end says “No Trespassing” followed by the reference number for the studio’s master copy of the album.
Ive always listened to korn. However after the military their songs took a different meaning. I love this and what y'all qre doing. Ive been told so many times metal is whats causing my issues, yet it jelps me feel again.
I feel like Jonathon Davis is singing about me. KoRn is always someplace I can go when I am the most depressed.
That interpretation about creating things to survive made so much sense.
After over a decade of battle with neurological problems and tinnitus it felt very true.
This band is amazing for showing how to link inner feelings to a creative outlet, and many people latch on because they write inner secret battles. It really helps people not feel alone. ❤
Interesting thoughts about the scat singing part! The stuff about creation reminds me a lot about Kurt Vonnergut's famous quote, that goes something like "Practice any art, […] no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what's inside you, to make your soul grow."
As a therapist, I guess it would be interesting for you to check out Korn's song Daddy. But be aware, it's about child abuse, and it can be quite traumatic for an unprepared listener. It's extremely intense, to say the least!
😢 aww dude you're so right about this. It's a punch in the gut times 100. I heard it a while back. Soon as I found her video. Seeing that she is a therapist then started rescting to korn. This song "daddy" popped in my mind. Ouch. There is some pain in that one.
Thank you for the breakdown. Your explanation and mental wellness breakdown is spot on for many. Your giving a communication pathway that people whom are afraid to talk out can build on. Been there, still feel it. Learned to minimize it :) most of the time.
Found your channel last week and love it. You're able to dissect it rather quickly from your professional angle. If you dive deeper into Korn, there's some interesting and disturbing nuggets for you to unravel. Keep up the work, and it's definitely a new fan here
The sounds he was making is called scatting. It's a focal of jazz vocals. The vocalist uses his voice to improvise melodies. Scatman John and Scatman Crothers were two of the most famous scatterers.
Bless you for what you are doing . It means the world to all and saves lives
I absolutely love this reaction. Your style of thinking makes me smile
I've listened to this type of music for 20+ years, and never realized some of the lyrical messages that you have been pointing out in your videos. I'm incredibly impressed that you can extract such deep meaning from a single listen. I believe that you've inspired me to try to listen deeper to the music I love, and I appreciate your passion!
She just made things up. Maybe she feels this way but it doesn’t matter that it was the real meaning. But any art form you can interpret any way you want (even if sometimes incorrectly), it’s your interpretation.
4:40 it wasn't a language it wasn't words it was a feeling, pure emotion.
This is my favorite MV of all time. The concept of following the bullet is just so cool.
I'd never thought about entering my creative powers as a way of dealing with feeling stuck. That was a really liberating explanation and I can't wait to try this. Thank you once again!
Wow I'm glad i clicked this video. I don't know what i expected but this brought a whole new appreciation for something I've already enjoyed for 20 years. Incredible that you took away all of this from your first listen.
His childhood was very painful. There's more meaning to the song.
great stuff...i belive that "The day I tried to live " would be up your alley.
Twist is a testament to what to you're saying at 4:26, because as Life Is Peachy (the previous album) was rolling around, they (the record label) wanted a song that they could use as a single, no swearing, inoffensive, simple beat, oh and do that cool scat thing you did on the first record etc., so Korn wrote and sent them Twist, which is entirely just Jonathan doing scat and saying Twist in the middle and end over a funky beat. 😂
Wow! I’ve made a living as a caricature artist for the past 17 years, and you made me think about the act of creating in such a different way 🤯 I always feel the most at peace and confident and present when I’m creating (whether it’s drawing, photographing, making music, video editing, writing, and whatever else grabs my attention), and it’s really gotten me through life even when times are tough. I see creativity as being the fire of life, even though most people don’t think of themselves as being creative. We use creativity in forming a unique perspective, building relationships, and creating a life for ourselves❤️
Your insight into the meaningful nature of creation for this song is very deep. Thank you! ❤
"Let the Dark do the Rest" by Korn is a great song about darkness and optimism that would be great for you to react to!
Korn is a very emotional based band he sings so hard he cries out his pain literally most of his songs are very deep
I have listened to a couple of your reaction videos so I'm relatively new to your channel but the ones I have seen I think you did a good job. I also have listened to Korn for a little while now and I have to say that their creative energy and the way they do their videos is awesome. Also, even before I started listening to your channel and heard you say in this video about writing as an outlet I had started writing music. Now I'm not musically gifted as far as playing instruments but I'm pretty good at writing lyrics. Anyway, sorry for the long winded comment but keep up the good work and I will keep watching your channel. The first video of yours that I watched was your reaction to sleep token I think it was called bring me back to eden.
Hey I think u finally explained the beautiful incomprehensible part of this song that everybody else just grins n head bang s through it thanks
Subbed for that 4:40-5:20 segment. Never ever thought of it like that and I appreciate all that you do!
just subbed. I love that you're reacting to some fire songs I grew up with in the 90s and breaking it down.
“This song is a gift” absolutely
Short and sweet. I don't know if these are the exact context to understand the lyrics and delivery of the song but your reasoning is really clear and helpful, even helpful artistictly. Thanks.
On point. You are good
Well being a therapist, and listening to Korn. I'd have to say you absolutely MUST listen to Korn's song called, "Daddy." I'm sure my fellow Korn fans would strongly agree.
What is is saying is: "So fight, something on the ming-a-boo
Fight, some things they fight".. so you did get close!
Omg she nailed it!! The first reaction I’ve seen when you just get it.. really cool to watch someone just get it… I’ve been listening to them since i was 12 and this is an amazing take on Freak on a Leash. Slipknot n Chop Sui yesssssss!!!!! ❤
I’M LOVING THESE REACTION VIDEOS!!! ❤
Thank you for breaking this down it seriously helped me.with how.im.feeling and thr reason behind it seriously thanks
GOOSEBUMPS EVERYTIME
LOVE YOUR REACTIONS ❤
You have to check out “ falling away from me “ now it’s the follow up to this song. Honestly Korn was therapy for many teens growing up it would help when you were going through something. It was an escape
facts korn's music made me feel less alone as a kid and it got me though ALOT of personal demons i will forever be a fan
Thank you ! May have saved my life❤
Very well said
I’m starting to like you. Very insightful and open.
lol, yeah I feel that is everyone's reaction to the beatboxing/scatting.
"Wtf is this?"
....
....
"Oh, I am actually getting into this!"
It's been a while since I heard this song. I didn't actually know it was about the music industry, but it makes sense. and your breakdown of him creating something only he could understand so that it couldn't be taken from him makes sense too. I always thought that part of the song was extremely emotional, even though it sounds like nonsense.
Amazing interpretation 🤯 your head it's amazing
Korn been through more shit then we can fathom.. and still made a band that will be played for generations.. he is a legendary 🤘🤘🙌
I loved your feedback on this, really cool
“Got the life” is one of my favorites off this album.
I really liked your analysis on the power of creation, grettins from Spain.
Love your reactions and comintary. Not only are you absolutely gorgeous but how yoi interpret songs and lyrics are spot on and amazing. Thank you beautiful soul. Love and light hugs and kisses
Korn, like so many metal bands truly speak about the feelings of our lifetimes... Why they're so powerful and so beloved by us metal heads.
I was wondering as I walked my dog if you have reacted to working class hero, I'd recommend the greenday cover because the power in that is always more than the original to me.
Korn is definitely a one of a kind band. One of the bands that got me through highschool.
As a therapist the song Daddy he released would be a cool one to react to… it’s a disturbing “song” it’s almost too harsh to release. It’s a song about John’s childhood, they just let him in the studio and do his thing. It’ll bring chills and tears
korn has so many great amazing songs that are so deep and meaningful thay have helped so many people. coming undone. narcissistic cannibal, get up, never never, rotting in vain, black is the soul, a different world, take me, here to stay, alone i break, cold, you'll never find me, the darkness is revealing, idiosyncrasy, finally free, can you hear me, let the dark do the rest, start the healing, worst is on its way. the whole the nothing album was made after the deaths of jonathon's(singer) mom and wife and the album was a form of therapy for him.
I agree, finding a medium to create that is successful and acceptable is the crux of recovery.
Alright... second video ive watched of yours and now im dedicated ❤ SUBSCRIBED!
nice words, nice theory, great channel maam ♥
This has always been 1 of my gym songs. The be boop and GO increase the rage I needed for those last few reps
Bastard by devin Townsend is wrotten about his father. Its an emotional one. Probably worth looking into
Love your reactions and analysis and insights! I really hope you get around to the sister track to this, Falling Away From Me
You just gave me hope I've lacked in a long time. I'll try and create something. Im just stuck at what. Not the creative type, but I'm such a bad place, I'll try anything. Thank you!
Wow that was a great take on it...
Use Creation as a way to fight! I couldn't agree more!
I love how into the music you get!
These KoRn videos are hitting an emotional target I did not know I had lmao
One of the best music videos of all time imo
ame como sentiste la música de korn! realmente lo ame. me hiciste bailarlo con vos!
Korn is interpersonal reflection maxing. And a band that started a new category of music that I've loved for a long time.
Jon brought back scatting in such an epic way!
The alien language part is often reffered to as scatting (such as in jazz)...
Jonathan Davis (singer) explained that it just happened naturally, as a response to whatever the band was doing instrumentally... purely primal.
He's done that on multiple records prior to and after "Freak on a leash".
the way she actually listens to the music....refreshing to say the least
Something about korn just brings people together
You should go through all their album. The scat part, is epic, they have a sing called twist, and it's 90% scat. The song Good God was one of anthems as a kid. And so many more
Along with Blind.
As a man with a wife and 2 kids who has separated himself from what I felt was a toxic relationship, over 3 years of loneliness has caught up to me. This reaction video actually made me cry for the first time in a long time...
I'm not a dead beat. I still support the 3 of them. We still talk now and then. Months between sometimes. Mostly when she needs me to fix something. But I work 6 days a week. And I'm tired...
But I still try to help her when I can.
I do miss being useful cuz right now I feel useless.
From sravyasridhar: @GoGT-R Hi friend,
First off, I want to say that it takes great strength to acknowledge and get yourself out of that toxic situation, especially when kids are involved. So what you did is truly admirable, even if it may not always feel like it. I want to reiterate that you are not useless in any sense of the word. You are working 6 days a week, supporting the 3 of them, and helping your ex-wife when you can. These are all big feats. Take a moment and reflect on how much you have been through. I'm sure you will see for yourself how useful everything that you have done truly is for every party involved. Keep pushing and showing up; you got this.
- Star :)
From Jearls: @GoGT-R Hi friend. Sometimes our emotions cloud our perception of reality. It can be hard to remember but you're a father that works 6 days a weeks and contributes to your family's lives. You are not useless as much as you might feel like you are. Sending love.
From twixremix: @GoGT-R thank you for being here and opening up about the loneliness and pain you’re feeling. from what you’ve shared, i want to say how much your side of the situation hit home for me as a child of a father who made a similar decision. i appreciate your insight and realness more than words can express. you separated yourself from a situation that was not benefitting your mental health and created the boundaries you needed. you made the most useful decision to both yourself and your family because if we cannot help ourselves, how can we be expected to help others? wishing you all the best as you continue your journey to find relief from the loneliness, exhaustion, and feelings of uselessness. may a better tomorrow be on your horizon.
love,
twix
From Malig3: @GoGT-R Hi there,
I am so sorry to hear that you have been through a difficult experience. Thank you for sharing and being vulnerable with us. Dealing with toxic relationships is really tricky. On one hand, you feel relieved and proud of yourself for leaving a situation that was negatively affecting you. On the other hand, you may also feel like a piece of yourself is missing and incomplete. I just want you to know that you are not alone and that everything you are feeling is normal and valid. The fact that you were able to leave that situation with kids involved shows me how brave you really are. And the fact that you still do your best to help them out while dealing with your job and your own life is amazing. You are strong and resilient. You are going above and beyond, putting others before yourself. This is truly admirable and inspirational. Be proud of yourself! You are dealing with a lot, so please be kind to yourself. You have so much purpose, and have so much to offer. Sending love and hugs. <3
From Micro: @GoGT-R Your life has shifted drastically, as well as the habits and routines you've built previously with your family. Even though your decision was right and essential - getting away of a toxic relationship -, you've been experiencing an important loss regardless, and transitioned towards something new. It makes sense to feel empty and somehow useless at times, especially if you were used before to provide to your family as well. There's no doubt that you care about your children and will keep supporting them, but it's also understandable that the changes you've known with this break up have also impacted the way you feel about your life, or even yourself. It sounds like you may still be experiencing this transition right now, but one day there'll be a time when you will feel like you have reached a new chapter. Sometimes we stay for weeks, months or years in a kind of "in-between" two phases of our life, and it definitely feels like wandering aimlessly while we're in there. You will find your way, friend. This may become, little by little, an opportunity to reconnect to your soul and heart in a new and whole manner.
Never heard anyone describe jonathan davis scattering so well that's exactly the essence
Absolutely love Korn’s music. Would love to see you do a take on Korn’s Rotting in Vain.
You have to do pt2 Falling Away From Me, serious mental health message!
Have to do Falling Away From Me soon!!
Hearing this song for the first time is what got me into metal
This song set me on my Emo phase, and while that is long behind me I wouldn't change any of it as it shaped who I'am today.
i feel old this song is 28 years old now
My favorite band and Thoughtless is their best song by far
I love love love korn
You should check out Got The Life by Korn. It further demonstrates how everyone just uses you for their gain in the industry. And how sometimes you have to go back to the basics and appreciate the simple things.
fuck .....you're the only one who actually caught on to his mysterious words ....wow . he said it was a language he created as a kid so people would not understand him so he can express himself without getting in trouble .. congrats !!! you rock .
you should do more Korn songs . CLown or Blind are good ones .
There were no words. Just noises. It's a jazz technique called Scat.
My favorite Korn video. Todd McFarlane (Spawn) is awesome. Must be pretty cool when you can get Super-talented friends to help with your videos.
Falling Away from me and Thoughtless next please :). Perfect Songs for you
Yes
You really need to listen to Korn's song Dead Bodies Everywhere. That song single handedly got me through some of the toughest times in my life!!
You have to listen to Korn's Falling Away From Me next. Not only does the video pick up right where this one leaves off, but it's also a song that many people seem to have used as their own personal therapy when they were experiencing physical abuse as a child.
I love your insight!!!!!!!
You should definitely check out “Falling Away from Me” next, as it picks up right where this video leaves off. It’s one of their absolute best songs imo but heads up the music video is a real gut punch and always leaves me with a lump in my throat.
i really hope lots of people listen to what you suggest from 05:00 on. I hope they all get creative one way or another. Thx HeartSupport
Nice video❤, I can recommend "Right Now" if you want to listen to more Korn.
