Korn is actually the perfect band for you to analyze. JD has always been very personal and honest with his lyrics. Every song is a reflection of the trauma he's experienced over the years. Really hope you do more stuff from Korn.
“When I don’t have depression..”. I can’t even imagine what that would be like. It’s like waiting for tomorrow- tomorrow is never here. Tomorrow is always a day away. It’s always beyond reach. What we have is making the best of now, planning, and trying to keep a solid perspective on where we are. Enjoyed the reaction
Man I feel this. I've been consistently depressed for more than 20 years so now it's just my resting state. I've adapted and learned to exist with it but I couldn't even imagine a day without it. Even when it's not at the forefront I often describe it as a constant lingering feeling in the background that I've just gotten used to.
Korn, Papa Roach, POD, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park got me through my angsty and angry teenage years. I could get home from school and pop in follow the leader and decompress
I really appreciate your analysis of Korn. It’s been eye opening because I used to listen to them when I was younger and didn’t realize exactly how well I related. Helped with some healing
''that's deep'' KORN is one of the deepest you can ever listen...i love KORNNNNNNNNNNN,i've ever loved their music...i really liked the explanation too.this is something i've never seen in youtube and i'll surely see more of it.👍
You totally nailed it, as per usual. For the video the band starts off being the epitome of music media marketing in the early 2000s: rap, rock, dance, angry, talented, etc. So the corporates are celebrating how much money they are going to make from the band, and so the band walks off because they have no substance in mind. Then Jonathan is 'dealing' with the paparazzi, Fieldy and Head give away their car to the homeless guy, Jason and Munkey crash their car because it is all superfluous. The best part is at the end when they show up for the backyard BBQ. You have cameos from Limp Bizkit, Orgy, Videodrone, Incubus, Kittie and even a not-so-well known Eminem (when he was with Brown Truckers and Kid Rock) was in it too, because in the early 2000s many nu-metal bands would support each other and it is well-known that Jonathan Davis and Fred Durst have been best friends since either of them first started their music career.
Jonathan was very authentic and honest. Another is Ronnie Radke of Falling in Reverse. Korn opened the door to talk about a lot of emotions, and FIR has followed in the footsteps, talking about therapy, drugs, and general mental health. It's great to see. Happy Men's Mental Health Month!
the fact that these guys knew enough about their instruments and what they knew what sounds they were after such a good funky they took a bunch of out of tunes sounds an made them make sense such powerful creative genius and their from huntington beach california sonically lyrically conceptually
My heart gos out to you. I dont really feel that alive or pleased with the way my life turned out but throughout the week a bunch of little things make me happy so iv got to just focus on that more then the bad. I hope you find your happiness.

Got their first album in 95 and found out my Uncle who was a staunch Maiden fan loved them too. He had a rare vinyl of Korn he was saving for a rainy day in case he ever needed the money. Hopefully the band stays relevant and as loved as we did back then!
I saw Korn for the first time in 96. Im old...lol. head there my favorite therapist. I hope your day is going great. So my sober birthday is the 28th and its getting close so I was hoping still that u all could react to Fear Campaign by my favorite metal band Fear Factory. I have a very heavy emotional attachment to this band my mom listened to Korn religiously throughout my childhood and I have a lot of good memories attached to these really dark songs cause I never really understood the lyrics (I have apd ) also when I went into a really dark part of my life and Korn just felt right to listen to like trash I started reading the lyrics to and as an adult connected with Johnathan Davis through his lyrics I honestly can say that this band has a very special place in my autistic heart and the emotions I felt seeing him perform was indescribable I don’t think I’m able to love an artist more than Korn

It reminds me of something Kurt Cobain once said in an interview I saw, I can't remember his exact words but he talked about how he missed going into a record store or clothing store with only enough money to buy one thing, and how much more that purchase meant to him when he spent his last dollar on a record he had been excited about for some time, versus having the means to just buy everything in the shop. He felt things lost their value when you had access to whatever you wanted whenever you wanted it, and I think he was onto something now that we are in the digital age and seeing the results of how people are negatively affected by choice overload or ennui.
Warning, long post. Oddly this song pairs well with my father's (RIP) favorite poem. It's called "the station" by Robert Hastings, a Illinois born Baptist minister and author. My dad used it in a presentation he would often show. It was so central to his character that we even played it at his funeral, hearing his voice one last time deliver this message inspired me to make changes to improve my own well being. It's a lesson, similar to this song, that I think, hope, will help others as well. It's out of print, so I'll share it here, may it help others as much as it helped me. Tucked away in our subconscious is an idyllic vision. We see ourselves on a long trip that spans the continent. We are traveling by train. Out the windows we drink in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at a crossing, of cattle grazing on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, of row upon row of corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hillsides, of city skylines and village halls. But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day, at a certain hour we will pull into the station. Bands will be playing and flags waving. Once we get there so many wonderful dreams will come true, and the pieces of our lives will fit together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, damning the minutes for loitering - waiting, waiting, waiting for the station. “When we reach the station, that will be it!” we cry. “When I’m 18.” “When I buy a new 450SL Mercedes Benz!” “When I put the last kid through college.” “When I have paid off the mortgage!” “When I get a promotion.” “When I reach the age of retirement, I shall live happily ever after!” Sooner or later we must realize there is no station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us. “Relish the moment” is a good motto, especially when coupled with Psalm 118:24: “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” It isn’t the burdens of today that drive men mad. It is the regrets over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today. So, stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, climb more mountains, eat more ice cream, go barefoot more often, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more, cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough -- Robert Hastings "The Station"
i sometimes look at the song as if he’s saying God won’t take the life back because it’s already been given, but that’s why i love Korn cuz music is open to interpretation for the most part:)
"God paged me 'You'll never see the light' - who wants to see? God told me 'already got the life' oh, I see" Basically about Johnathan's imposter syndrome and misconceptions of fame, but can see your angle too. Like he's fed up with it but he's already got the life - too late to turn back.
If you want a song that will ABSOLUTELY rip your heart out…..react to Daddy by Korn. It’s absolutely tragic and devastating! You won’t get through it without pure disgust and tears!
If memory serves, and it may not, this song is about the music industry and how the band was treated at one point. Again I’m not sure but I think it’s about that. 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻💯
You should explore the Ethel Cain lore. She touches on some heavy stuff and Ethel Cain is actually a whole character. Ptolemea is off Preachers Daughter. Apparently, for this one song, she takes drugs and this voice comes over as if she is hallucinating. There is a section of the song where she gives out a deathly scream of Stop. By the end of the entire album she gets kidnapped and then killed which August Underground is supposed to be about and it’s based off a movie. The very last song I think is where people believe Ethel goes to heaven. Also look into The God, the message is deep as well. Her song Famous Last Words (Ode to Eaters) is about having an unhealthy obsession and relationship over someone you love and beg for them to stay and eat your entire body to be a part of them, I heard it’s a weird cannibal type song.
something That keeps me from writing songs is my pain I would say ... I am a guitarist and sometimes brainstorimg trying to write / come up with lyrics makes me flash back / replay scenes like a movie of my life where I suffered things, I sometimes end up feeling like a coward or seeming like a "pussy" to start wanting to cry when writing
