    The singer (James Hetfield) actually wrote this song for his then-girlfriend. The song is about long-distance relationships and missing your loved one. But this is the genius of his writing. He can write lyrics to a song and people can interpret it very differently, because he is able to write it so universally.

      I always say in reaction videos how james writes lyrics in a way that is very personal to him yet vague enough for the listener to interpret them unto their own life’s experiences! He is a master poet for sure. Hundreds of years from now people will be reflecting on how spectacular a writer he was!

    SIR Elton John told Howard Stern that this is one of the best songs ever written.

    It's crazy listening to you because I'm still here because of Metallica. There music is Therapy to me. Fade to Black is another that for me saved me the most It's sounds dark but the lyrics let me feel that I was not alone I'm not the only one going through what I'm going through. The build up through out the song lifts you up and bye the end of the song you are pumped and full of energy. Thankyou for reacting to Metallica I've bin listening to them since 1986 and I'm still here.

    I happened upon your videos the other day. I am so glad I did as I seem to have found someone who "hears" the music as opposed to "listens" to the music. I like how you to dissect the song and meaning. Many just "listen" to the song and only appreciate that much of the songs. I appreciate the combination of not only the lyrics but how the music is composed to is collaborated to boost the meaning.

  • @travisjohnson7111
    @travisjohnson7111 9 місяців тому +1

    Hello...I just came across this reaction/ dissection of one of my favorite songs growing up, and all I can say is, you're exactly right. I've dealt with Schizophrenia since I was 11, and I literally taught myself how to listen to the voices that matter most to me, and ignore everything else. it's been a struggle, especially when my depression kicks in...but, when I focus on my building voices, instead of my teardown ones, it gets me through, and I come out the other side stronger. 'Nothing Else Matters' is by far, Metallica's best blueprint for dealing with chaotic voices...and it almost didn't make it on the album! if not for everyone cajoling James to put it on the album, I don't know where the world would be right now. Again, great reaction, and think you for understanding what music, in general, has been teaching us from the beginning. Have a wonderful week ahead, and I look forward to the next Metallica reaction you do. Bye...

    This psychologist asked different questions than the first one i went to, and it made me realise what has caused all the discomfort, all the dramatic thoughts, all the worries, all the suicidal thoughts…..it all started as jealousy and one step i took without really knowing how much of an impact it had on me personally was to delete my Facebook account, it helped me a lot to focus on what was important to me.
    Great video and great way of telling what the song is about, loved it!.

    There is actually a lullaby version of this. And funny enough, it was playing when when i first seen my daughter at one of those 3d ultrasounds. This song means so much to me.

    I agree with the message of freedom and knowing what's important is this song. Another great song with the same message is Jimi Hendrix's "If Six was Nine"

    You should respond to Nightwish.
    Nightwish - The Poet And The Pendulum.
    It's a song about severe depression by the band's composer and keyboardist.

    My wife passed away just over a year ago at 54. This song has meant so much more to me in this past year. I still cry almost every time I hear it. 💔

      From I-Am-Reclaimer: @scottalynch Hey friend, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss. That's a lot to deal with and a very recent thing. I'm glad that you have a song that you can go to as music is such a healing force and metal is extremely cathartic in its own rite. The pain you've got inside needs a way to be released and I'm glad that you have a way to release it when listening.

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  9 місяців тому

      From tromboness: @scottalynch That is difficult to lose someone that you spent years of your life with. A year is not a lot of time since losing one so close to you. I'm glad that this song has touched you, and I hope it has also helped you through the grieving process. Hold Fast.

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  9 місяців тому +1

      From Micro: @scottalynch I'm so sorry for your loss, friend. It's terrible to lose the very person you've been sharing your life with and partnering with. I can only imagine the immensity of your pain and how difficult it's been already to survive through this year without her. It is completely understandable to cry and to miss her when it feels like your very own heart has been removed of such an important part of itself. Your world has been changed so brutally and it's unfair to haveto learn to deal with the absence and the silences. I wish we could collectively give you a giant hug right now, and hope for the tears to help at least in letting some of the emotions out when they get particularly heavy. If you ever need to let things out, vent and safe people to listen, you are always welcome to do it here.
      If you are willing to share - no pressure from me at all -, I would also love to hear more about her, the kind of person she was and the impact she had on you. Sometimes it helps, even just for a little bit, to share found memories and the name of the person we miss the most, for the rest of the world can still meet her through you, and you can keep carrying on her voice. Sending much love your way. :heart:

    I happened to find this right after watching the Wings For Marie reaction, and my mother just passed away recently, I had a paper route at the age of 15, and I didn't have a driver's license obviously, my mother would drive me around at 5 o'clock in the morning, I'd torment her with Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, and this is one of the only songs she likes, she was 85 years old and whenever she heard this song, she'd start singing along. You've got me crying my eyes out today, but the catharsis is healing and is very much so appreciated.
    From a clinical perspective, I'd be interested in seeing a few different reactions, The Pain Remains Trilogy, this one is 20 minutes long, but you should do it all at once, the official video with lyrics, I've already watched your reaction to Only For The Weak by In Flames, there's a live recording of The Chosen Pessimist from the album A Sense Of Purpose that is absolutely gorgeous, and Fade In/Fade Out by Nothing More. All 3 of these are incredible.

    Please do more metallica! Back in April I developed panic attacks ( extreme ones) , and bad anxiety. Music is one of the most important things that helps me get by! Rock music, and metal mostly! I love that I am seeing more people become accepting of it, and into it! Younger people too! I am 41 so it is pretty cool to see 18, 19, 20 year olds finding metallica! You can also check out In This Moment! Edit here... I am also a recovering addict almost 9 years sober! My favorite Metallica song is Called Bleeding Me! The Lyrics to it are so good! It explains Exactly how I felt trying to stay sober before I did stay sober.

    So much of metal is about the struggles of mental health. Depression, suicide, not giving up, learning who you can trust.... People get stuck on the "loud" music and ignore that the lyrics are profound, and more so than just about any other genre.

    Well, the alcoholism alone is a major factor. And as I remember James got the idea while on the phone at home from Russia, strumming his guitar with one hand.
    But then again, everyone has their own take on this song, which is beautiful.
