    A nice little harvest indeed my friend. And it looks like there's more to come. Thanks for sharing.

      Thank you for watching. I was in the hive today and they are still packing it in. I hope your girls are doing well.

    Mr T, I’m not believing that you showed your face in the video! Those frames of honey look great. It looks like a very light honey. I took a few gallons on Memorial Day and it was very dark but taste very good. I have a few boxes to harvest tomorrow also. If it doesn’t come out when I sling it it’s going in the extractor. By the time it’s mixed with the other the moisture normally runs around 16%.

      No one needs to see my ugly mug but I am having a hard time getting the shot when the hives are so big. It is crazy how sometime they don't cap a frame that is well below 18%. I am usually around 17% but yes it's very light and very sweet.

    Looking Good! I might still be a week away. This Hot weather coming is going to EXPLODE the Linden Trees! They have just started blooming here in NYC (about 10-14 days early), but after this rain and that heat coming, the last blast of the spring flow will be on and Linden is usually their biggest source just before dearth creeps in. I have 3 supers on a couple of my hives and the third box on each is just about ready.

      Splits and nectar are 2 weeks early and looking good. Fingers crossed that we keep getting rain and a good flow through June. Sounds like that third box is as heavy as mine. Don't forget to lift with your legs haha.

    Here in MN we have had a lot of low humidity days and I pulled my first 4 supers of honey. A few frames were not even 1/2 capped and the refractometer showed 16% moisture. I still let the dehumidifier run on them for 2 days and the honey is so thick.
    I am learning what you were showing about how to insert new frames with drawn frames. I ended up with some very thick frames that really threw the extractor off balance.

      I get a lot of questions and comments about fat frames next to thin frames and hope I explained it well enough. You learn quick when they don't fit into the extractor. Sounds like you had a great spring flow.

      @@mrtsbees4454 Living in a small town everyone has ornamental flowering trees, red maples, and so on. There is unlimited resources for about a month, then it slows down until the basswood hits and then it is over.

    Mine are doming the first super like yours. Will they eventually cap it?

    • @mrtsbees4454
      @mrtsbees4454  3 роки тому

      Yes. That's why I under super so they will fill the dome they leave open. The timing of nectar is off so it will take a little bit longer.

    Question. Why measure the moisture content when the honey is capped. Doesn't capped honey signal that the bees have already evaporated all the moisture content so that it is perfect?

      Thank you for watching. I was talking about the section of the frame that was not capped. It was 100% on one side and about 60% on the other so to be safe you do a quick check.

    Don’t you clean up your extractor after getting the honey each time you do this.
