Examining the nature of the beast.
"Males come up here to wait through the winter"
Chilling with the boys
Pun intended.
Yes they are
Remember people, the main difference between seals and sea lions is that sea lions walk and run, while seals drag themselves or bounce on their chonky bellies.
And the external ear flaps!
Unless it's a fur seal. They break all the rules.
Also sea lions sing kunamatata whilst seals don’t
Seals are sea caterpillars 🐛
@@drgrounder But fur seals are basically sea lions (closer to them than to seals).
With the topic of marine mammals, can we get the elephant seal next, the true beachside chonks?
For a second I thought it just said elephant😂
Leopard Seal for me
@@nathanbell8356, I was just going to suggest that.
Well the males are, anyway
*Happy Feet flashbacks* yes
You guys should do The Great White shark next. It’s important to educate people about the role sharks have in the eco system. They’re not just cold blooded killers like what’s shown in Jaws.
I agree. Let's give them a bit better press than they already have.
I think it would be delightful to see a show on great white sharks - or any of the sharks - with the typically whimsical, positive music used in Animalogic.
Everything is fun and games, until the Orcas show up.
Too true
Mmmm orca just sounds tasty 😋
@@dallas9795 are you chinese?
@@ifyoureplytomeyouregay4293 and what's that supposed to mean?!!??!!?
😂!!!
@@ifyoureplytomeyouregay4293 me Chinese, me play joke, me put covid in your coke!
I volunteered years back at a marine mammal care center. The sea lions were so fun to watch. They're so smart and agile. Their barks bring warmness to my heart. 😊
Did you get to pet them during feeding times?
No petting 🙁 gotta keep them wild
I notice that a lot of "Stellar" animals are the largest of their kind; the extinct Stellar Sea-Cow is the largest Manatee, the Stellar Sea Eagle is the biggest eagle and now the Stellar Sea Lion.
@blue Yep
That’s true. That’s why it’s also called Stellar’s *my penis*
@@britneyspheres7yearsago11
4cm is not stellar, sad to say. My bad for the burst bubble.
Hello yes? Police? I'd like to report murder in the comment section
what about the steller sea ape?
The sea lions waving their fins out of the cold water to regulate their body temperature is like
me putting my leg out of the blanket in winters to regulate my body temperature 🙇🏻♀️
Can we get Leopard Seals,
the Penguin's #1 serial Nemesis
@@jwim3969 aw Thank you, and by the way... I'm a boy
I'm eagerly awaiting the video titled "Grizzly Bear: The Sea Lion Of The Land".
Thanks for watching, this is our last episode of 2020!
Love you animalogic!
Love this channel!
At least the sponsor is not Raid Shadow Legends.
Thank you for all of the videos, you have one stellar channel!!!
@@kimbratton9620 *ba-dump* *kssh!*
I’d love to learn more about Leopard Seals. I know they rip apart penguins but not much else. I saw this video where a Nat Geo photographer is in the water and a leopard seal is trying to feed him. I’d really love to learn more because now I find them cute yet terrifying
Leopard seals are manmals and like to swim
@@britneyspheres7yearsago11 damn thats really in depth
and they have cool teeth
Alpha, where'd you get th teeth?
On the other hand leopard seals have been known to eat people.
4:19 You know that reminds me of when I was 10 and a woman showed me how to do the cannonball at her family pool, she said to actually exhale before you land in the water to prevent the sudden pressure change from hurting your middle ears.
Ah yes.....Sea Bears. Did you know that drawing a circle around yourself can protect you from fatal Sea Bear attacks?
Sitting under a tree is a sure way to protect against shark attacks. I'm told it is also a certain cure for sea sickness.
@@kirkjones9639 you don’t get it do you tehe
@@user-cz8tz4qz8n Yes I do. Evidently you're too cheap to pay attention, and don't.
@@kirkjones9639 u obvs dont and your too cheap to know and dont
OH MY GOSHSHDJFKSKJ
I only just realized Danielle's name signed at the bottom of the sketch- does she do all the animal art???
Yup! 😃
3:00 actually, that’s the most on brand thing I’ve ever heard about our national symbol
Hahaha, they’re after the oil next.
i LOVE THE WAY YOU SKETCH EVERYTHING YOU TEACH ABOUT!!!
When they're pups:
oooohhh so cute.
*demonic skreech*
0_0 still cute
One of the best videos yet. Danielle used to weird me out but now she's one of my favorite online personalities out there. You guys do great work acquainting the masses with nature. Seriously bravo.
Wait, so Sea Lions don't really hold their breath while diving, but basically rely mainly on the oxygen that is already in their blood? Never thought of that before, that makes it even more impressive.
Huh? Where do you think your body gets oxygen from when you're holding your breath? Your lungs aren't much of an air tank; you also rely on the oxygenated haemoglobin and myoglobin that's already in your blood and muscles.
Sea lions: Can get decompression sickness if I have no air in my lungs.
Me: How?
As a kid I went to Pier 39 in San Francisco a few times. I loved watching the sea lions cavorting and being loud. Great video, as always.
Did you notice how they had destroyed all of the boat docks? Sea Lions are very destructive. The wharfs there are OK but all of the docks are gone now.
I live in San Francisco.
They _are_ loud! And they _are_ stinky! They’re usually at the beach about 5 minutes away from where I grew up! Sea Lions will always remind me of home. ^_^
Reminds me of my home Nanaimo. Always loved watching them at work with some binoculars.
3:35 I hoped you'd say why their skulls look so similar : becuse bears and pinnipeds share a common ancestors. Which is true ! It probably looked similar to an otter
This title: Sea lions, the grizzly bears of the sea.
Squidward: aight imma head out
So that's what sea bears really look like lol
Wait, so is finning the sea lion equivalent of sticking one foot outside the blankets at night?
Lol, yes! 😆
Yeah basically lol.
Not sure I buy it until given further info and evidence how scientists came up with the idea that it’s for thermoregulation. Both water and air must be freezing cold and a moment before she said that they huddle together to keep warm.
@@pansepot1490 Then go watch a legitimate documentary on sea lions or look it up? I was just trying to make a light hearted joke.
@@pansepot1490
Air can be much colder than water with a difference of way over 10°C.
Now think of how little of a change in temperature is enough to make us feel comfortable/uncomfortable.
Our body temperature is around 36°C, but when it's 36°C outside we feel like ugh.. That's because the body is made to insulate for heat conservation - heating consumes energy while cooling does not, simply because it requires the opposite of work (production of heat as a byproduct).
When underwater, sea lion's body is "working", thus causing a significant elevation in temperature, on top of that they are insulated to survive the air temperatures (otherwise they wouldn't be able to be out of the water - especially not for resting).
Ah yes, the ions of the Seal.
Tell that to an otary public.
Now you've got me wondering: sea lions are positive or negative seals?
@@lucaskitamura614 There must be both: Sea Lanions and Sea Lcations.
I presume this means that when Seal Ions mate they form ionic bonds?
Sea lion? More like Sea Doggo 🐶
exactly...i was about to say the same
Danielle, you are so fortunate! thank you for sharing this
Hi! My 3-year-old son and I love watching your channel! He wanted me to ask if you could please do camels and dinosaurs! Thanks for all the rad videos, we are learning so much together :)
You should make a video on Grizzly Bears, they're the Sea Lions of the Land
Sea Lion: The Grizzly Bear of the Sea
Polar Bear: Hello.
I mean, they could also be the Lions of the sea
We call them land sea lions. I tame them
Closer to dogs and such than cats.
Nah, not at all
More like dogs of the sea
sea bear
It’s so cool that you guys are getting to travel all over to make these. I bet that’s an absolute blast!
Nothing beats seeing these awesome animals in there natural habitats.
I love how you can really see how much fun Daniell has in this episode. Makes it so much better :3
Love the video Animalogic 💛💛💛
Thumbnail makes it look like he is about to sneeze his soul out of his body🤣
Yep
Love the vids as always
Remember when Marlin Perkins dyed his hair purple and Jim thought he was an African Flamingo?
I just watched a 45 minute IMAX documentary and just learned MUCH more about sea lions in your short vid. Thank you so much.
Just got to say it.... you are all fantastic at this channel. I really love your content! :)
love this channel!
It is always such a joy watching your videos 🥰
I always found these kinds of animals to be fascinating!!
Oi Sea Lions are epic!
Fish: swimming
Sea Lion: *toothy smile* no u
_Is literally called SEA LIONS_
Danielle: Ah yes, grizzly bears of the sea.
True, but in her defense, pinnipeds are more closely related to ursudae than lions, who are feliformes.
@@anthonybeervor2265 Yeah, but LiOnS!
They're in the Canine family, though of course they aren't dogs or bears.
she literally said in the video "sea grizzlies would have been a more approptiate name"
She right tho.
If you guys ever do elephant seals, you gotta mention Elizabeth, the female elephant seal who got swept up by currents and ended up in Christchurch New Zealand, where she lived in the Avon River during the 70s and 80s
The aquarium near where I live has Californian Sea Lions. They have a small show with them and they have their own exhibit. They're the best and are so adorable!
Sad that they are kept in an aquarium and forced to do shows
@@giant3dorangutanmodel89 dunno if they still do shows. But I think they were either born in captivity or were rescued and deemed unreleasable due to injuries. They have a seal rescue organization, they also save turtles and a dolphin once. One turtle became a resident of the aquarium bc they had to surgically remove a fish hook from his throat. He was pretty chill.
Your videos are great!
How about one on the leopard seal?
Her joy is amazing to behold.
Love you Danielle♥️
Dang I love your narration.. Keep it up girly
Ok, I subscribed... I fully expect you to come out of hiding and make another video before January 1st! Oh, nevermimd, take a break and happy Alban Arthan! See you next year.
It would be cool to do a video of all of the steller's sea creatures
Steller's sea eagle
Steller's sea cow
Etc.
Saw a ton in San Diego, such majestic creatures
9:32 Now That's what I call a Stellar Drawing, of Steller Sea Lion.
The way of saying is very beautiful. sound is awesome...❤️❤️❤️❤️
Those sea lions are pretty stellar!
Can you do in the next video Ospreys please.
In 2021
That would be fantastic!
great video!
3:29 "Sea Grizzlies would've been a more appropriate name"
When I heard that I instantly thought of Sea Bears from that one Spongebob episode XD
We've got a lot of those sea lions around where I live. They're loud as hell, but I like seeing them when I kayak around the bay.
Sending much happiness to you and yours.....please take the extra precautions needed to stay safe!
I'd like to see a show on Sand Fleas.. it's incredible that they can "thrive" in such a small area... wave in, wave out.
Love it!
Hey Animalogic! There isnt really that many in depth videos on lepoard seals, so could that be a possibility for a future video? I think they are one of the most amazing animals.
I’m watching this as I’m transporting a stranded Guadeloupe Fur Seal from Washington to California.
awesome thanks
Danielle would be an amazing guest on the rogan podcast.
Seals and sea lions are so awesome. Although I must admit that I don't know the difference between the two..... Great content. Thanks for posting.
This channel and ZeFrank are the best animal channels 😁
Sea lions!!!
I love sea lions, cool vid.
these videos need more credit
These videos are Amazing,i'd really love a video about my favourite animals, the adorable bongos
Every time I hear them, I think of Pier 39 in San Francisco.
This is the earliest I’ve ever been to any video EVER
I love this episode. Like the pinnipeds.
The one thing Animalogic can’t bring to viewers is the smell.
I smell a merch opportunity.
Sea lions all look like substitute gym teachers, with mustaches and cul-de-sac balding patterns who are stuck in the 80s and enjoying Dunkin' Donuts. 😂🥸🤓.
Beautiful art! You live in Canada. I live in northern Minnesota. Life changes when you realize the top predators in your area can eat you haha. Nature has ALL my respect!
My 4 years old daughter loves these videos
We also have Stellar Sea Lions and California Sea Lions in Oregon! They're, like, my favorite. Along with harbor seals and whales.
I would love to get that sketch of a sea Lion. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Grizzly of the sea? Well thank the stars we don't have Orcas of the Land.
Humans, orcas of the land are just humans
Pandas?
@@tytusnezluk8955 Err... Just no...
While they share a similar colour pattern to Orcas, Pandas don't really compete in the same hyper-intelligent, high speed, pack-hunting, dominant apex predator class as the Orcas.
Like at all.
I still remember the chonky bois that were hanging out outside a seafood restaurant in Coquimbo, Chile, waiting for all the leftovers(no the sealions couldn't get in the restaurant because it was elevated above the water where they were chilling)
love the channel but when are we getting a potoo bird episode. love those goofy little things
Does anybody know of there is a specific name for the illustration style used in old biology books?
I find it really cool but don't know how to call it
Goodness at it's Finest.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! :-)
Nice video
they’re so cute. I remember my first time seeing one in person when i was little at Pier 39.
You make video on jaguarundi cat your all video s are amazing
How about a video on Nudibranch’s? I love those things
Whales and sea whales playing with each other is just the cutest thing
Sea lions are the sea equivalent of people who spend the whole weekend in pajamas
Just the weekend? The whole lockdown
I hope squidward remembered to draw a circle
OOOh! the Stellar sealions sound like Elephants seals!
