Growing up on the Big Island, Hawaii, Dorian was always drawn to surfing. After achieving success, he started doing CrossFit to maintain his status as a high-level surfer.
“To me, being physically fit is directly related to having confidence in big waves,” he explains
To ensure he’s fit enough for the demands of riding huge waves, Dorian started at CrossFit Kona under owner and coach Monty Enriquez.
“I did … a baseline WOD. It absolutely crushed me, exactly like how it does to anybody who is new to CrossFit,” Dorian says. “I had felt like I was pretty fit at the time.”
Enriquez says Dorian’s humble nature and work ethic made him a good fit at the affiliate.
“He’s very easy to coach and just wanted to become the best he could to help improve his sport,” Enriquez says.
Over time, Dorian has grown fond of the workouts as well as the community at CrossFit Kona.
“I love waking up and seeing what the WOD’s gonna be. I love going in and seeing all the faces every day,” he says. “We have such a good group of people down there at CrossFit Kona, and it’s so fun to see everyone’s progress.”
He adds: “Everything I’m looking for physically to train, I get out of CrossFit.”

***** Ronnie Coleman wearing gloves is your response haha? Just seems weird seeing someone like him wear lifting gloves..."unless you're a power lifter who has no flexibility and can barely move gloves arent that bad." I don't get what dainty hands have to do with either power lifting or flexibility? Gloves do nothing positive, they just prevent callus's....which should be worn with pride right?

Cause he’s a surfer? And he’s always in the ocean?

Wrong workout program for a surfer or any other asymmetrical sport. Crossfit will only make his imbalances much worse. If he doesn't already, he's going to end up in pain. Most likely low back or hip pain will result. Crazy that someone at his level of surfing doesn't have a tailored program or people around him to tell him he's doing the wrong thing for his sport.

Too bad he doesn't, but there are plenty of knowledgeable people out there in the professional surfing world that can help him and would agree with my statement. I did a search on him and see that hes got some major back issues now. I'm a surfer and went down that road, I know first hand what Crossfit and other sagittal plain dominant exercise programs will do for someone who participates in an asymmetrical sport and isn't good.
