As an older person who still skies, mountain bikes and does a lot of long distance backpacking the key is having passion for what you do. I have fractured my skull, broken my back in four places, broken knee but it’s the love of my sports that has kept me focused and training like a dog. Most of my friends are pretty much the same. In the winter I live or ski and the rest of the time I live to ride and hike. I also eat mostly a keto diet. I am well into my 60s and still hitting it hard and have a much younger wife, that also helps. Never stop training and doing what you love. One more thing don’t drink and drug, at least not often.

Agree with the drinking, but I smoke pot regularly. I’m in my mid 40s and still surf and skateboard daily, or at least 4 days of the week. Surfing is really pretty easy on the body. You’d think it’d be rough on your shoulders but my shoulders feel great. Can’t say that about my knees. Skateboarding kinda messed them up. No surgery yet though.

@@charliespaz-way4073 no because loving what you do when it’s something wholesome will raise your brain’s frequency and impact your physical abilities, whereas if you’re sitting around drinking and smoking you’re just making yourself dull. Love what you do, and you will be carried to health and athleticism.
I am only 35 however had 4 neck surgeries in my mid 20s and became 50lbs overweight during this. I was a good strength athlete and decent runner prior to surgeries.
Post surgery went low carb then hiking and got back into running. It brought tears to my eyes when i found out some of my doctors were worried id never be able to work after all the surgeries.
I first started walking on trails for 1 mile, then 2 miles, then 3. I remember it was an achievement walking around a 6 mile loop pain free. Now ive run this loop in 46 minutes no issue.
Love what you do. The love for what you do will carry you on those days you dont want to do things....
    Have a great day.

I learned to surf at 42. The key for me was to go to a physio and learn how to strengthen your core. In the mornings i used to be so sore just getting out of bed. Now i do my physio sanctioned exercises religiously for my core, arms, legs and back takes maybe 6 mins before even getting out of bed. No more pain, more flexibility, recovery is faster and easier and as a bonus my surfing has improved 1000%. I’m also more muscular in my upper body and ive lost all my body fat. My bp has improved as well.

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on feelings in your later life, other than the fact that once you realize that you are a gifted athlete especially surfer, you either have it or you don't. We can see this in young surfers who stand out at 4 or 5 years old be the way they have magic feelings.some talents have been manufactured and cultivated, so it's not impossible, but those that are naturally gifted at a young age are revealing a higher connection with all kinds of things. Kelly had it at a young age, like many before and after him. Some people try harder and some just seem to find it effortlessly. That's what Kelly slater was as a kid. Of he ever had moments of failure it was just distractions along the way, and the business world trying to manipulate him.

The biggest secret to staying healthy into middle age is being successful enough to do what you want to do when you want to do it. We all know what we need to do to stay in peak performance, but it usually comes at a high cost for the common family man, most of us aren't willing to make those sacrifices.

Im guessing he still needs money, perhaps due to his failed bizness adventures. He is caught up in the surfing comp grind where others younger than him like Rob Machado gave it up and Retired long ago. Surfing is a freedom of expression sport, not a competitive sport for the true surf riders.😊

Yeah but you're not competing at an international level with late teens, early twenty each olds. It's one thing to surf until the day you die and another to keep yourself in good enough shape to compete with the best until the day you die.

    • @Ziggyc54

@@guitardivesmall You are missing the point. A 51 year old or older is capable of competing at any sport if his or her body stays healthy. It’s the stupid societal belief that when you get to a certain age you should just roll over and die. Each individual is different, and if you are capable of competing in your chosen passion, go for it, whatever your age.

So your physical fitness/fatness hasn't fluctuated at all from early 20s to late 50s? It's fairly well documented that the human body degrades after 30.
