What a great band ! All of them ! I seem to have forgotten why I loved them so much in the 80's and now I remember. Thank you Mr. Bertram for preserving this show as a reminder of an exceptional Band.
I just saw them tonight in Durham.... That cat can play guitar and sing still at an incredible level... They seemed very happy to be back on the stage again!!!!! My only front row ticket ever and a good one it was.....
Thank you for explaining this SergioMarteli. Sounds like this phenomenal band got the really raw end of the stick in that A.M. debacle. Thank God, that the band is still out there touring and making a new generation of fans. I was blessed to see them in 2008 in Tucson, AZ and will be seeing them in 3 weeks in Scotsdale, AZ. Arizona loves Squeeze, and thankfully they come to give us life by performing for us on a pretty regular basis as far as I can tell.
SergioMartelli I agree with your assessment except for the part about the quality of their output. Their run of albums from Frank in '89 through Ridiculous in '95 were probably the best of their career but hardly anyone has heard them. Their Some Fantastic Place album in '93 featured their best song ever with the title track and should have been a world wide hit. All of those albums are great from beginning to end. It really is a shame how this band was handled. They've since regouped and are still going strong
SergioMartelli yes there's no doubt they have officially reached "cult status" in the US. I saw Difford & Tilbrook do their 2 man show in Cleveland in a small club in front of about 100 people. It was a great show and they signed afterwards. Definitely check out the albums Play, Some Fantastic Place, Ridiculous, & From Cradle to Grave. There's also Domino but they've kind've written that one off. Plus Chris & Glen have some excellent solo albums that of course have flown under the radar like the group albums. You won't be disappointed with the later albums. SFP featured the return of Paul Carrack and has Pete Thomas of the Attractions on drums. The only downside to listening to those albums is that it will frustrate you even more that this band is so underappreciated
I took a friend to see them near Philly, about this time, give or take half a year. My friend had never heard of them. Listened to Singles 2x on the drive and he was a huge fan by the time we arrived at the concert.
I was standing on the ocean side of the bandshell for this concert at stage left. I was amazed because at the time Squeeze was pretty much my favorite band in the world, and here was a free concert I just stumbled upon.
I just saw them at MSG when they opened for Hall and Oates. Big mistake on H&O's part. Squeeze blew them out of the arena and it appeared that Daryl Hall was keenly aware that they were never going to be able to keep up.
I just saw this same pairing last night & Squeeze once again just overshadowed them so hard. As my friend & I discussed leading up to the show. H&O are a good band, but Squeeze is a GREAT band.
Man, Glenn Tilbrook is so good. I'd say underrated, but I think I'd be using that term wrong. He's well respected appreciated in the music community, they just never gained the huge main stream following outside of Tempted that I feel they should have gotten. Amazing songwriter, guitarist and singer. Always forget Jules Holland was with them for that period.
Lucky in a sense to have much of a career because they didn't fit the boxes of the time... but they are sophisticated at the same time. I hated them at the time weren't weird or harsh enough. Now I can hear what they are doing. They also play as one they are right on the money. And fuck my fellow US people in audience. We are a stupid people.
0:30 - Pulling Mussels From The Shell 4:35 - Trust Me To Open My Mouth 8:40 - In Quintessence 11:40 - Heartbreaking World 16:50 - The Prisoner 20:50 - Footprints 25:30 - In The Heat Of The Night 29:35 - Goodbye Girl 33:35 - Messed Around 36:25 - Great Balls Of Fire 38:00 - Black Coffee In Bed 48:45 - Annie Get Your Gun 52:05 - Hourglass 56:20 - Tempted
Spring Break & Mtv at Daytona..for a couple of years...free shows at the band shell....skipped school and got to see bad brains, The fixx, squeeze, cheap trick and a couple of other shows - I remember going to see the chili peppers - but that was when 2 of them were arrested and the show was cancelled...
Amazing. Long story short... I was a huge Squeeze fan at a young age and I saw the opening song re-broadcast on MTV shortly after it's airing (I was 10 years old at the time). It took almost 28 years to find out what it was from. Thanks for uploading!
MTV re-aired the Pulling Mussels performance not long after this originally aired. I must have been about 10 years old then and I was a Squeeze fanatic. I never found or saw the entire performance until now. Thanks so much for posting this!!
Awesome performance and energy from the band all the way through. Glenn looked and sounded like he could have gone another couple hours or so with no problem.
Squeeze was supposed to be the next Beatles and quite frankly what happened? They had the songs and the avid fans. I was and still am a metalhead but I could never get enough of Squeeze, they are so get up and dance or just bob your head to their great songs.
I miss '88 and all the other years beginning with 19--. Life is a dawdle, musically speaking, of course. Other than Beck, music has driven off a ledge.
Wow! This rocks. Might have been a peak for them as a live band. And to think there was a time was a Spring Break Daytona band. This was around the time I saw them, though Jools wasn't on the tour I saw.
Notice blond girl in crowd as camera panning around in the gig!!,shes fully clothed in beginning and hardly got any clothes on at the end of gig,CLASS!!!!!😋😋
I remember watching this on MTV and wishing is was I could be there. I finally saw Him do a acoustic performance at B.B. King in N.Y. and he was awsome.
Spring Break '88' I was at this same venue 4 days later to see a free concert with Eddie Money. He must've drank a six pack worth of beers handed to him from people in the crowd. He said it was his birthday the day before.
My favorite show of theirs. If only there was soundboard live audio from this available somewhere. I love how they changed up “goodbye girl” but this is the only time i have found them playing it in that manner.
Thanks for putting this up! I saw this tour down in Sunrise probably a day or two before or after this show. There's another tour t-shirt I won't be fitting into ever again...
Spot on.. when Frank had just been released, he played a song from it called " Help yourself "on his radio 2 show ..I was in the bath at the time,I turned it up full blast and made a mental note to get " Frank " ..it was the 1st time I'd heard her sing . Goosebumps .He raved about her.. and rightly so.Amy ❤
Not a bad show, but no "Cool for Cats" or "Another Nail In My Heart". Two songs that Difford and Tilbrook killed on the Join The Dots tour last year. Check out the live show video from the Beacon Theater and hear what a Squeeze show should sound like.
What a great band ! All of them ! I seem to have forgotten why I loved them so much in the 80's and now I remember. Thank you Mr. Bertram for preserving this show as a reminder of an exceptional Band.
You’re very welcome!
How anyone can give this a thumbs down is a mystery to me. THE BEST band.
Inspiring to see such a well rehearsed band! Great performance and J Holland on the piano! Awesome 👏 l
I just saw them tonight in Durham.... That cat can play guitar and sing still at an incredible level... They seemed very happy to be back on the stage again!!!!! My only front row ticket ever and a good one it was.....
SPEEDYS POST ALERT
God forgive me for forgetting how much I love SQUEEZE
Pulling muscles on this video is amazing………… what a great band
this band was so tight so clever and such great musicians. total pleasure to listen, even after all the years they are killin' it.
I saw them 5 times in the 80s and 90s. Best band ever!!!
Glen Tillbrook has a great soulful voice!!! What a great band! This lineup rocked!
What an incredible drummer Gilson Lavis is. He made Squeeze more amazing than they were/are without him.😊
And As for the Bass player omg hes top notch !!! Must Say love jools h piano bot NOT vocal !! ouch
I wasn't alive for this band but I swear to god I just love them. They are amazing. The talent 👏🏼
You mean alive for their most popular years? They are still alive and touring in some form.
Love, love, love! I remember watching this on MTV. I was 26, and then I went to bed and woke up old.
I was 25 and genuinely love this band
WOW. Those people never knew that was going to be sooooo fantastic. The brilliant Squeeze.
Probably more than a few 'Were you there for Squeeze?' Still goin' around...
Great to see the B-Bender Telecaster being played by a master. Jimmy Page played one, too.
Steve bertram you are my go to fir all things squeeze thank you for all your dedication and postings love em all
You’re welcome!
@@stevebertram6730 your post's take me back to my youth thank you for that squeeze forever
I was in this crowd! What a show , what a week
Took my father to see them last weekend. They are just as good now as they were then. A special evening with a special band.
Glenn is such a darn great guitar player and Gilson is crushing it on the skins.
Glenn Tilbrook has an excellent voice and is a great guitarist !
Pete Woodroffe Music
such a underated band...they were amazing for so many reasons

Aw geezus if I see underrated one more time 🤨

FFS. Why am I only JUST learning to appreciate this amazing band.
I'm 40, I could have been to gigs galore over the years.
dakaraius Better late than never!
It happens to the best of us. I hear stories, that band played at the local club. Where the hell was I, I wonder? I could kick myself
The bandshell, what an awesome place for shows that was (a million years ago)
I was standing on the ocean side of the bandshell for this concert at stage left. I was amazed because at the time Squeeze was pretty much my favorite band in the world, and here was a free concert I just stumbled upon.
This song always makes me *happy*!
(*and not an easy thing to do either*😉)
I just saw them at MSG when they opened for Hall and Oates. Big mistake on H&O's part. Squeeze blew them out of the arena and it appeared that Daryl Hall was keenly aware that they were never going to be able to keep up.
terrible pairing! Hall & Oates are a girly band, SQUEEZE was ROCK MUSIC.
I just saw this same pairing last night & Squeeze once again just overshadowed them so hard. As my friend & I discussed leading up to the show. H&O are a good band, but Squeeze is a GREAT band.
One of the BEST Rhythm & Blues shows on video.
36:27 Great Balls of Fire! ……and the crowd goes wild!

My son was born on this day.
Fantastic to see and hear this concert after more than 30 years. Thank you very much 😊👍.

Sweet! dtf

This is so wholesome compared to what spring break is nowadays in Flordia, and this is the late 80's for god sake.
This version of Annie get your gun and goodbye girl are the best
When we were free
Awesome performance and energy from the band all the way through. Glenn looked and sounded like he could have gone another couple hours or so with no problem.
Best live band I ever saw... seen them 2 months ago in North Wales...
Agree! I saw them live in LA in 1999...awesome!
I am taking pictures in front of the stage inside the barricade. I can be seen for a split second at 24:52/33:24 and 33.59.
So glad I found this. I was attending ERAU in '87-'88 and was there for this. Outstanding.
Early 1988 was the darkness just before the dawn. Glad that Squeeze was back and getting consistently better.
That voice!
Yes! And still amazing in 2016. Saw Squeeze two nights ago in San Francisco.
And The Beat Goes On & On...
SQUEEZE
So damned good!
Squeeze was supposed to be the next Beatles and quite frankly what happened? They had the songs and the avid fans. I was and still am a metalhead but I could never get enough of Squeeze, they are so get up and dance or just bob your head to their great songs.
I feel so old!
What a find, thanks 👍
I miss '88 and all the other years beginning with 19--. Life is a dawdle, musically speaking, of course. Other than Beck, music has driven off a ledge.
wow !! they are still touring too!!! excellent band
Absolutely LOVE Hourglass!!!!! 🤩
Me too! I loved how the crowd went wild on the first note.
Blooming brilliant❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😘😘😘😘💫💫💫💫💫💯💯💯💯💯💯💯🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻👌👌👌👌👌🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂
Wow! This rocks. Might have been a peak for them as a live band. And to think there was a time was a Spring Break Daytona band. This was around the time I saw them, though Jools wasn't on the tour I saw.
Notice blond girl in crowd as camera panning around in the gig!!,shes fully clothed in beginning and hardly got any clothes on at the end of gig,CLASS!!!!!😋😋
what a song for an opener !
What a voice!!!
The only time you ever want to see a bunch of drunk college students is if you’re one of them.
Squeeze is one of my favorite Bands...but Drumms and bass player are GREAT!
I was obsessed with them on Mtv!
I remember watching this on MTV and wishing is was I could be there. I finally saw Him do a acoustic performance at B.B. King in N.Y. and he was awsome.
Glenn's blues guitar solo at 27:49 - 29:18.
Jools Holland is one of the many musicians that inspired me to play piano.
Spring Break '88' I was at this same venue 4 days later to see a free concert with Eddie Money. He must've drank a six pack worth of beers handed to him from people in the crowd. He said it was his birthday the day before.
Love this band!
56:22 Tempted
Jools brougt his piano. STELLAR....
この時期は1番いい
My favorite show of theirs. If only there was soundboard live audio from this available somewhere. I love how they changed up “goodbye girl” but this is the only time i have found them playing it in that manner.
Thanks for putting this up! I saw this tour down in Sunrise probably a day or two before or after this show. There's another tour t-shirt I won't be fitting into ever again...
Thanks so much for posting this!
fabulous performance
There at the TOP !!! What a band.
Thank you Steve :)
Fantastic! 👏👏
JOOLS HOLLAND IS THE MOST PUNK MAGNIFICENT BASTARD OF ALL TIME! His love for AMY was real, he knew talent! FUCK! THIS BAND IS SO GOOD!
Spot on.. when Frank had just been released, he played a song from it called " Help yourself "on his radio 2 show ..I was in the bath at the time,I turned it up full blast and made a mental note to get " Frank " ..it was the 1st time I'd heard her sing . Goosebumps .He raved about her.. and rightly so.Amy ❤
And tonight.....Squeeze play The Subscription Rooms in Stroud UK - can't wait!
1988 when you had to have a walkie talkie duct taped to your back when performing
... and that was already considered kind of avant garde ('newest hottest latest')
Supergroup!
Thank you for uploading! Love this!
Very tight band and Glen is an underrated guitarist!
O. M. G.
Love!
Great shot on Gilson at 52:35.
Unreal... the band is tight.....
In the words of squeeze happy days.
THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!!
Thanks for posting! Pretty sure I was there representing UND!
Not a bad show, but no "Cool for Cats" or "Another Nail In My Heart". Two songs that Difford and Tilbrook killed on the Join The Dots tour last year. Check out the live show video from the Beacon Theater and hear what a Squeeze show should sound like.
I'll just leave this here... ENJOY!!!
pearls before swine
Hey Steve, thanks for sharing this! Haven't seen it since high school!
Squeeze was the tits. I'm partial to vocals of Difford but they're just such a great band.
SQU££zzzzzzz£... M£!!! ~barflySue the₩ildTyp£!!! Squeese yo'MOMMA this mothers day❤
Chris looks like he has borrowed suggs of Madness bowler hat😀🇬🇧
Just sorry they had to play in front of Florida ☹️. I hope they turned them on in their lives.
Didn't work haha
Brilliant
Jools is looking like colonel Sanders in that cow boy hat
Hi Steve, just wondered if you've seen the excellent BBC documentary about Squeeze, named 'Take me I'm yours'?
Annie Rose Yes, I have. I agree. It’s really well done.
56:49
These guys are really hot players
