For reference to our European friends, Taco Bell is where you go for food if it's 3AM and you're high. IHOP is where you go if it's 3AM, and you've just shot somebody. Denny's is where you go if it's 3AM and you want to get shot. There's a hierarchy.
"Wouldn't it be shit if we all just turned into pussies?" Well, they weren't just right about the video phones... The "Hall of Violence" font is Exocet. It was also used a lot in the TSR Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting, Planescape. When CHiPs aired in England, it was called CRiSPs (no it wasn't, that's a blatant lie).
Hey, guys. Recently discovered you guys a week back through your commentaries on the other channel and then found this one. Fucking loving everything you're doing. As a film lover of everything from 20s german expressionism and early hollywood all the way to now and every genre possible, this channel is just brilliant. Keep up the good work, chaps, you're hilarious!
Never stop doing this guys. You and RLM are the only channels that I come to when I need friends :D. BTW, when are you going to do a Cannon movie ? I suggest Runaway Train, really surprised that movie doesn't get much love anywhere.
15:08 Jack Black also has a small cameo of a machine gun turret-stand constructor in the great 1997 The Jackal movie, with Bruce Willis (the main bad guy hitman), Richard Gere (the good guy, who has to help catch him), Sidney Poitier and J.K. Simmons. I'd love to see you guys do a commentary on it. :) Here's the trailer: ua-cam.com/video/nszMBbCZKo4/v-deo.html
I love this movie, I'm aware that most of people now likes it more for the world where it takes place (and the memes), but I like it as a Stallone action flick.
Talking about Taco Bell. We do indeed have one in Nottingham, in a weird twist of fate the Taco Bell in Nottingham is actually where the old Odeon Cinema used to be where we would've watched this movie when it came out. And just to chime in on the Pizza Hut version, I had never seen that edit until UA-cam was a thing. The VHS I hired from the video store in the 90's was definitely Taco Bell cos I, like many Brits, didn't know what it was lol.
My experience with DM on VHS was the same. I couldn't understand what Taco Bell even was, or what the joke about it was. We really did need the Pizza Hut substitution, but for some reason it didn't seem to make it to the UK. It turns out there were 3 Taco Bells in the UK around DM's release, so maybe it was supposed to work as advertising for them. They all subsequently closed. There were a further 2 TB's, but only accessible to personnel at the American Air Force bases at Lakenheath and Mildenhall, which are not that far from Cambridge. But the mass roll out of branches didn't happen until 2010.
They lifted just enough material as possible without having to pay Huxley's estate :) It's such a fun film this. Rather slapstick, almost a parody without quite qualifying.
Saw it in London when it came out and it was defo Taco Bell. I think there were a couple of Taco Bell's in town at the time. I certainly got the reference. It would have been funny if they'd dubbed it to 'Fish & Chips' for the UK.
@@davidjames579 As an aside, in case anyone reading is interested, there are apparently still 39 Taco Bells in Britain. They also offer home delivery. In real life the franchise wars seem to be a pitiless affair and are seemingly endless.
@@hilaryc8648 I finally went in one after years of anticipation from watching Demolition Man, and couldn't actually bring myself to buy anything as the food photos actually made me feel queasy. Just looking at the website menu, I stand by that. But if Richard and Duncan ever want to sample it, their nearest appears to be Colchester.
I love this film, but I can’t help but feel that it’s a compromised film, mainly in the third act. It seems that lots got cut out, maybe in a rush toward the end of post production? It could have been Stallone’s Total Recall, but it just misses out. Still, we love things for their flaws as well as their positives right?
A new city built on top of an old one isn't far fetched. I live in Atlanta and our city is built on top of the original Atlanta which was burned down by General Sherman during the civil war. There are many areas where you can see the original city areas or even the railroad tracks.
Dear Duncan .In this commentary you mentioned an actor given praise for a performance ,that was actually down to the lighting. Could you do a driving with Dunks to elaborate with a couple of examples please. (Ps. You to are bonkers fun to listen to)
Pizza hut is EXQUISITE. Taco Bell is trash though, straight from mouth to toilet in 15 minutes. The Pizza Hut is very good, probably the best worldwide Pizza chain in existence.
I'm always amazed they didn't make the fast food restaurant turned Michelin Starred one, Planet Hollywood. I know there're not McD's, but it's hardly classy (just Burgers and Fries). Maybe, Sly didn't want the slight. But think of the publicity.

So it's McDonalds for all 3 in Ireland, just different McDonalds.

Richard Jackson and Duncan Casey, for the duration of this video, you are fined a total of 325 credits for violation of the verbal morality statute.
I think UA-cam has that swear machine too... "so much for the three seashells."

"But he sees her kinda trapped in a Nicolas Winding Refn disco" - this is the funniest thing you've ever said :D :D :D
Sandra Bullock is well fit innit.
Whaaaaat?!

Nice, was in the middle of listening to Event horizon again. Keep them coming.
Don't forget,Jack Black did commercials for the Atari 2600 game Pitfall when he was just a kid.

Always viewed this as a ”twin piece” to last action hero :)
I always twinned it with Cliffhanger!
The Schwartzenegger Presidential Library/Sly in Terminator 2
You should bring back Pitches leave, it was a good show.

Yeah, when I saw it on UK video in 94, it was Taco Bell, as I thought what is that?

saw the pizzahut version on VHS (sweden), They changed it on dvd
Does Sweeden even have Pizza Hut? If so, I want to apologize on behalf of the US.

Are commentarys available as audio only? As a patreon or bancamp thing?
