I went to the video shop and asked if I could have Batman forever, they said no you have to bring it back in a couple of days. Old jokes are the best jokes.
I'll tell you what got me sort of pissed off or at least "WTF" in Batman V Superman. There is a shot in that movie and establishing that Metropolis and Gotham are like 20-40 miles apart separated by a harbour. So your telling me in this universe, Superman can fly across the globe faster than a speeding bullet to save Lois. But crime in Gotham that is like 2 seconds of flight is so out of his interest that in the DC world it is such a crime shit hole, that it needs a Batman and Superman is not interested in going over to the city to fight most of the DC universes most dangerous super criminals? What the hell man?
Sure, but Superman could fly to Los Angeles in a few minutes, or maybe even seconds, right? So why not stop every crime in the country, or even world? Gotham being so close is a non-issue.
"HOW NOW BROWN COW?" Is a Bugs Bunny quote to Yosemite Sam where they are in Rome and Bugs is standing on the other side of a gap full of lions. So, Sam grabs stilts and crosses the gap and hits the lions with a club, so Bugs gives the lions tools and they quickly saw down the stilts as Sam tries to run back. Ha ha, love that scene.
Still has My favourite villain line from the series when Edward Nygma watches Stickley fall out the window and comments "Ewwwww... Nice form, but a little rough on the landing... he may have to settle for the bronze." - Came back to Me today when I was watching Red Bull Cliff Diving today and someone screwed up their landing...
I remember getting this and 'Star Trek: Generations' on tape for my birthday. I wanted to watch 'Batman' because we'd seen it already but my folks insisted I watched 'Generations'. Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place... 'Batman and Robin' on the other hand, I had no desire to see, even when my folks bought the video for us.
I've been bursting out into laughter for the last 3 days whenever I randomly think on the name Harvey Two Face being muttered in Tommy Lee Jones voice! 10/10
BF is prime '90s teen nostalgia for me. Loved this movie summer of '95, the U2 & Seal tracks (but still hate the screaming trumpet score), Jim Carrey was in his overthetop prime, Val Kilmer (always awesome in my book going back to Top Secret, Real Genius, Top Gun, Willow) and Nicole "BMX Bandits" Kidman was sooo hot in BF...good commentary gents! *Also, late to the party here, glad to have found you guys after going bonkers searching for an old FixItInPost Review to revisit for the last hour, which have disappeared from the darkweb, (not knowing what happened with Ollie) and that ya'll are doing your own thing now. Liked & Subbed :)
I can’t hate this film. It’s not good, don’t get me wrong. I outgrew it years ago BUT it did right by 10 yr old me. The kid I was got so excited for Batman Forever, watched the trailer over and over, listening to the U2 song (which I still like) and getting the toys - and it exceeded my expectations! I’d love to go back to that feeling again . . . but I can do without the toys. I’m a man now 🙄
I remember that Jonathan Ross qoute. It was on the video cover box art. Never saw the alternate version where Bruce faces the giant Bat creature in the cave. Did this version make the film have more sense with reference to the red leather book?
Hi Guys. Thanks for the commentary. Here's some feedback: From my perspective, the best commentaries you guys have been involved in were the early Marvel movies (especially the first Spidey one) with Ollie Harper. I understand the relationship had sadly ceased, but here is something to think about: I feel the best comedic report between the two of you existed as a byproduct of it being very obvious (at least to me) that Ollie was wanting the two of you to settle down a little bit and focus more on the movie. You would both go completely silly, similar to to school kids laughing when they know the teacher is watching. Some of the humour was incredible. Now whilst the relationship with Ollie has ceased, is it possible to bring in a more serious "straight man" third party to emulate this role? Trying to engineer the chemistry may be impossible, but at least from my point of view, the chemistry that existed with the three of you was spectacular.
I love this movie unabashedly. Michael Uslan broke down how every Batman property honors the comics in one way or another. He equated this film with the zanier Batman and Robin adventures in the late 60’s early 70’s. It has roots in Batman, it just wasn’t and seemingly isn’t what any Batman fan wanted. But lately I’ve noticed Batman has become a brand unto itself. Any type of Batman property, people are thirsting for. Anyway; Long story short, this movie is entertaining AF.
Well this torturous, I'm at work and I don't have my ear buds...................argh! I'm hoping for some choice impressions from Duncan. Quick thoughts on the movie, I quite like the Kilmer Batsuit - (don't get the nipples controversy there I said it!!!) Can tolerate Jim Carrey - just barely, absolutely hate Tommy Lee Jones portrayal of Two-Face - and the way they call him 'Harvey Two-Face' in the movie for now apparent reason. Strange that Tommy Lee Jones felt the only way he could compete with Jim Carrey was to act all zany and crazy too - when I think a more still and dark performance would have worked better and its something Tommy Lee Jones does well. So strange that after waiting decades for a serious Batman, which we kind of got with Tim Burton's movie - things started morphing quite quickly into the old tv show - though nowhere near as good *sigh* the 90's! Edit; Another thing that bothers me about this film which I think may have started in Tim Burtons Batman, and has hopefully died out is the villain origin trend. You see it in Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, and all the Raimi Spider-Man's.So boring, just get on with the film!
I just love how Tommy Lee Jones logic was like "I cannot sanction Jim Carrey's buffonery so I will fight it by doing exactly what he does". What a hypocrite!!!!! Hahahahahahahaha!!!! lol
1:35:00 This bit on undisciplined, improve comedy is why I don't like the 2016 Ghostbusters. As Mr Plinkett's review shows the focus on improve means that there is constant wandering out of character so its hard to care about the story and it's not funny enough to compensate. [Not wanting to start a Ghostbusters argument, just stating my opinion]
Could you expand upon the comparisons of silver age batman and this please. I mean Google Detective Comics 'The Creature from the Bat-Cave'. A typical issue of that era, for me personally I don't really see the parallels. Silver age batman is sci-fi, aliens, robots, actual dinosaurs etc. I get more of the Kelley Jones batman art style from this film, even shades of Norman Breyfogle
Wish we knew what happened to Nicole kidmans dr Chase mariedian after this one as she was never seen or mentioned again In batman and robin at least when Bruce Wayne's first love Vicki vale in the original movie didn't comeback in the second film she was brought up that her and Bruce had broken up but nothing about dr Chase.it will forever remain a mistory as the original batman film series is long over never to be continued so we won't ever know.
An interesting aspect cut out of the film-'Two-Face and Batman both struggle for control of the helicopter. In this scene, Two-Face accuses Batman of being "a killer too"(a continuity reference to the previous Burton films)'. Duncan's pitch of Max Shreck putting Batman on trial seemed to be a better way of dealing with this issue.
I was so pissed off watching this movie as a kid in the cinema. The entire audience was laughing all the way through it while I sat there with my arms angrily crossed. The film hasn't grown on me since.
28:00 Spot on about Commissioner Gordon in these films. The 89 film kind of has a interesting idea in that Gordon thinks Batman's a menace, but it gets dropped very quickly and I think he has about 2 lines in returns.
Great commentary guys. I always crack up when movie logic can't be explained so Richard just sings the theme tune loudly to gloss over it. The Nicole Kidman impressions nearly killed me off in this one though, fucking hilarious. The VW Polo with different coloured body panels was called the Harlequin. My mates Dad when we was at school had one for a very brief time as a company car as he worked at a VW dealership. It was fucking awful to look at.
I went to the video shop and asked if I could have Batman forever, they said no you have to bring it back in a couple of days. Old jokes are the best jokes.
Ahhh, I was about to crack that one.
I don’t think any actor will be as on fire popular again as Jim Carrey was in 94-95. It was crazy to witness and be a part of.
Didn't Dumb & Dumber, Ace Ventura and The Mask all come out the same year?

Agreed, the idea that you can see Gotham from the roof of any moderately tall building in Metropolis was the last straw for me.
Yeah thats a good point.
Sure, but Superman could fly to Los Angeles in a few minutes, or maybe even seconds, right? So why not stop every crime in the country, or even world? Gotham being so close is a non-issue.

Tommy Lee Jones: I will not sanction buffoonery.
Joel Schumacher: You'll do what you're told!
Bro, I think Joel just let Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey do whatever they wanted.
@@edwardhannah8507 most likely the case, for sure
Love these commentary waffles. Great for listening to while working or gaming. Hoping we get a commando one at some point.

I think the 2 options for the "straight man" would be either Toby Venables or Brad Watson. If your looking for a more analytical point of view.

The 12 rated Blu-ray is the uncut version. The BBFC cut the shit out of the movie for a PG rating.

I think I dislike Forever more than Batman and Robin, the latter was a mess from start to finish but Forever "could" have been decent
Visually striking but not nearly as fun (or funny) as the 60s Batman, which it was clearly emulating. And a horrific title....
A film with the title ‘Forever’ that only produced 1 sequel
