I always wonder what people are actually expecting when they watch a speedrun. From all the complaints I always see about glitches, it seems they are actually trying to find a walkthrough, not a speedrun. If that's not the case, then I have no idea how people can complain about it. Literally every single speedrun I've ever watched has used glitches and exploits.
+FragMentEditing They are perhaps disappointed that it isn't a speedrun that's played in the conventional way / a walkthrough that's played as fast as possible? A 'runthrough'? Idk, seems like a petty reason to complain regardless.
***** It's not a speedrun without exploits. The point of speedrun is to finish the game as quickly as possible. To get it done as fast as possible requires glitches and exploits. Ignoring them means it is not the fastest possible path, so then what's the point of it? What's the point of watching a speedrun that's just running through the normal in-game events as quickly as you can, without skipping anything or detouring in some way? I don't understand why people like you hate glitches and exploits. Can you please explain what's wrong with them? Why is it wrong to skip things? Why is it wrong to do things unconventionally for the sake of speed? It's not like they've never played through the game. Obviously all speedrunners know the game they're playing very well. So why? Why?? Why?!?
FragMentEditing The answer is in your first sentence: to get done with THE GAME as fast as possible, not see how many glitches you found in the code. This is speedrunning, not comp sci jackoff hour.
Whether a speed run is good or not depends on one's opinion. Some prefer them glitchless, some prefer them with glitches. There's a good reason there are speedrun categories.
Well this WAS a glitched/exploit run but when he dupes the staff halway through that can't be automated he performed three frame perfect tricks in a row so that's impressive
Diablo had a completely random generator for the levels. They are easy to manipulate which is why they were all right next to each other. The enemies spawned and their drops could also be manipulated as well making the items drop to your liking.
Mom: Hey son, where are you going? Son: Umhh, just going to the inner circle of hell to kill the devil himself. Mom: Well, then no lunch tomorrow? Son: Oh don't worry, I'm back in five minutes! Mom: Take care!
From the link: MANA SHIELD Any attack causing more damage than a character's current hit points will not stun the character if they are using Mana Shield. Furthermore, the game considers the character to be in a state of death for a small period of time before his/her hit points are "refunded" by the Mana Shield. During this period of death (fraction of a second) the character is actually rendered immune to attacks, and cannot be knocked backward as well.
If anyone is wondering about the extreme 'luck' required for the level layouts: Diablo generates levels, including stair position, loot and enemies based on your system clock. If you get a program that freezes your system clock, entering each dungeon will always create the same results. This player used this method to find awesome random seeds for each level, and strung them all together in a single play through. Getting Naj's puzzler to drop like that must have taken a long time.
Why call it a world record? I can copy your clip and run it fast forward in half the time, then call myself master of the universe. It does not mean that people who actually have played the whole game will honor my glory. They will probably call me the same I call you... Cheater.
I agree man whats all the fuss. He was just loading his heros saved game and teleported to diablo to finish him off. Da fuck? I could do that on my PS4 set to easy and choose the level where I meet diablo and voila. Lol?
There is always a chance that the stairs down to the next level appears right next to the stairs from the last level. Therefore you can save before you go down, and since every level is generated randomly each time you go down, you can reload the game and keep retrying until the staircase ends up right next to the one you go down each time. So you may say this is hacking, but it is within the game's rules.
There's the game "as intrended" and "as coded". Cheat codes are special exceptions by the developer and do not count. Glitches do count. There are no cheats in this run, but many glitches are used and abused for fastest time. That's because speed runners play the game "as coded". Since the goals are quite different from normal play, it makes things more interesting. As for luck... the game creates levels when you first enter them AFAIK... so save/try/load is all it takes. This run is segmented.
1) You can set the game to generate the maps to have all the start points in the same place every time. 2) The item glitch is doable, you just need proper timing to do it, anyone can do it, even in diablo II it used to be possible. 3) Did you not see him overload on scrolls of invulnerability? That's how he didn't die.
Afaik this was a tool-assisted speedrun. He used save states everytime he entered a new level and if the entrance to the next level wasn't next to the exit of the previous he just loaded the save state and tried again. He did also use some item to make his hp less than 0 (negative) which bugged the game and made him invulnerable.
Summoning Salt needs to do a Speedrun Progression for Diablo. When I was a kid my sisters would pour days into this game and never beat it. You come around and destroy it in 3 minutes and 9 seconds. That's insane. I'm a fan
I don't usually post comments but the sheer level of ignorance and venom here made me want to. So nice job man don't pay attention to all your haters down here who don't know what they are talking about.
Nice job? Glitches, manually-edited maps, and auto-control scripting is not a playthrough of Diablo 1. Speaking of people who don't know what they're talking about, Mantis Technique everyone!
fuduzan5562 Yea well you don't know what you're talking about yourself. This is not a playthrough, this is a speedrun. The whole point was to show how fast it can be defeated, what he did is completely possible although very unlikely.
Dungeon generation is generally done based on the time of a clock, doesn't have to be based on your clock but generally is(hard-code, but the way the stairs were means the guy was using cheats as it is literally impossible to get randomly generated stuff that close together in a game of this manner. Oh, not to mention all the duping, mana glitching(even with mana shield), the fact that the guy only leveled once, and a few other things pretty much removes this as a possibility as a world record.
very impressive -bows down in respect- this must have taken a few hundred tries to get it right. Why dislike the video? it takes LOTS of skill, patience and practice to pull this stunt off in Diablo.
I've explored the non-random 2039 dungeon and it is not laid out like this. If the run was made with so-called luck manipulation, it still involved utilities since you can't just wake up one morning and roll a dungeon that just happens to have all the stairs lined up and a najs puzzler at the entrance on lvl 9.
To those concerned about the stairs down... it might be this bug "YEAR 2039 RANDOMIZER ISSUE" So if he set his computer date to 2040 the program can no longer use the clock to generate random levels. (have not tested so just speculation)
actually no, you need different times for different segments of the run. It's legal by the SDA rules, so he does that. The year 2039 issue is interesting, though.
I really wonder: Why everything he dropped turns into another staff? Why he didnt die in boss fights? What is the ring he eqiuped? Is someone who can answer me?
These glitched speedruns are really cool because they give you insight on some otherwise-unthinkable oversights, such as the game not considering the possibility you can die while under an active Mana Shield (which on a first thought seems logical, as you have to have your Mana Shield broken before you can die, but then you add -Health items and it becomes a mess). Sure, technically he cheated as he exploited glitches (that's why speedruns are often divided in "glitched" and "glitchless", but dismissing this altogether is like dismissing pretty much all Quake speedruns due to bunnyhopping) but if you like to know how a game behaves, these glitched speedruns make you learn quite a few things.
no, the retards doing speedruns think speedrun = completely legit to use teleporting, duping, invulnerability, flight, wall phasing, etc. they think that the rest of us need to mention "glitchless" as if we're the strange minority. I say... if you're gonna cheat, then use the proper cheat codes... at least those were actually intended to exist in the game. I even seen an idiot speedrun a pre-patched version of a fallout game. HMMM gee if the devs patched the bug, doesn't that mean you're not supposed to use it?
the game is random, so this is technically a possible combo. He edited the map. Got a staff with charges, killed a high level creature with said staff, got a bunch of levels, and killed Diablo.
The game engine will stop creating random levels after midnight of January 1, 2039. Any game started before January 1, 1970, will also not be random. so just set your date to one after that
+meebond It's HP glitch, when your health drops below 0 when mana shield is up you won't die until you heal. If you won't heal before going to the next segment you'll just spawn dead, because mana shield is no longer protecting you thus game will check if you have hitpoints to take further damage. You have negative hp so it means you're dead, bam. Have to add, you're invincible in the cost of exp gained (you won't get anything because you're technically dead as your HP is below 0).
Every "stray" bullet, every single step taken, even a dropped item or intentionally lost health can have meaning in a speedrun. That's what makes them so entertaining to me.
+anothga yeah just a lucky run? cant be that easy and in the end i dont even know why hes not dying looks like god mode this speedrun seems to be for people who know the game well themselfes and what hes doing
anothga yeah i read that later, it works as long as u dont change ur location, if u do the game realizes ur health is below 0. never heard of that before, but whats about all those exits near the entrance? sooo fast that guy
This ring gave him negative life, wich allow him to pass trough enemy attack, and keep the mana for attack. He have to remove it before town, because the mana shield disapear at town, and it would have killed him if he was on negative life
What I find suspicious is how the stairs to the next level is located exactly next to the previous one on the first 10 or so stages, but appart from that its pretty damn impressive.
how stupid people are? in the description he even wrote all all tricks wich he used. Everyone with Diablo 1 on his computer could do the same.... there are no cheats...
Can this hold the tittle of "Speedrun"? I mean most of speedruns aren't video edited like this in way to make it looks shorted when they already took over THOUSAND OF TIMES to get the correct advantage/circumstances in every level/scenery.
DO PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT A FUCKING SPEEDRUN IS? It isn't just "playing through the game quickly". You take every single advantage you can find, which a lot of the time includes glitches.
I'd assume that not using any game glitches or bugs would be the correct way of doing a speedrun. Otherwise, it's just about who can abuse the game the most! Or so Ithink, at least.
if you round up ya its just about 20 years old, but technically its only 16 years old exactly which is close to 15. In 4 years from now it will be 20 years old. Infact I'm playing diablo 1 right now hahah
How big is the pausibility, that the exits at the most time, directly near by the entrance? Sins When are Bugs allowed? When i used a Money Bug oder something, that i will finished Many Games in a very short time, so its nothing special. It is stupid to say "WORLD RECORD"
+Ericus_RS Speedrun allows(and often promotes) use and abuse of bugs, glitches and manipulation. The chance of this outcome is very low, but it technically is possible, so thanks to luck manipulation and trying it all over and over groobo(the runner) got the perfect(or at least very close to perfect) effect. speeddemosarchive.com/Diablo.html
I'm pretty sure this game were altered to provide such a levels and other stuff, so, it's not a "speedrun of original game". It's almost the same as to create your very own Diablo game, which starts and ends as original one, but has similar to shown shit in a middle. Yes, everyone can complete it in 5 minutes, and so what? It would be much more interesting to see a TRUE speedrun with originally randomized big levels and such.

Glitches actually are generally accepted for speedruns since they are part of the game.

@Allition1337 Not invincible. He's using mana shied. But he did cleverly exploited a lot of quirks in the system to pave his way.
ya the entrances sometimes were close but i don't remember it being so close too, the maps are random generated ....
You set the clock in windows to before Jan 1st 1970 or after Jan 1 2039 and it bugs the game so each level down it right next to each other.
Afaik this was a tool-assisted speedrun. In the world of speedrunning glitches are usually allowed. Actually it often requires quite a bit of skill in order to activate a glitch properly.

Seriously? That's so lame!!! What a waste of time
It does count. This was also made in segments as you might know.
You need to check the wikipedia article for Diablo.
Diablo has always been a Blizzard franchise. This is Diablo 1
The narrator at the end is the colonel Roy Campbell from Metal Gear Solid.
No cheat codes used, he used in game glitches. Read the description.
The game engine will stop creating random levels after midnight of January 1, 2039. Any game started before January 1,
1970, will also not be random.
so just set your date to one after that
How did his staff of charged bolt, change into "Naj's Puzzler" lol
Negative HP glitch :D
I have to admit, I overuse save states to get the most uniques out of rare monsters. Lvl 4 char all uniques :)
The amount of naïveté in the comment section is cringeworthy.
Wow your timing is amazing!
the old man hurriedly strolls at a brisk pace to finish his quest in haste
So you don't need to do one quest or kill even one boss to finish the game?
Diablo Abridged: The Race to Shove an Evil Rock in Your Head
Ok, what glitch made it to where he could take so many hits at 0 hp?
+meebond It's HP glitch, when your health drops below 0 when mana shield is up you won't die until you heal. that helps XD
Every "stray" bullet, every single step taken, even a dropped item or intentionally lost health can have meaning in a speedrun.
That's what makes them so entertaining to me.
yes, every hand picked "randomly" generated dungeon...
but i think that you played all the map, take all things, all the potions, kill all monsters and make all quests...
I have never played Diablo, but I can safely say that I have no fucking clue what just happened.
U ded?

All I want to know is, how the hell did this guy manage to get all the stairs to appear next to each other?
+anothga yeah
just a lucky run?
cant be that easy
and in the end i dont even know why hes not dying looks like god mode
this speedrun seems to be for people who know the game well themselfes and what hes doing
hash tag
Apparently, he used a glitch involving mana shield spell, the effect of which is that the character becomes unkillable.
anothga yeah i read that later, it works as long as u dont change ur location, if u do the game realizes ur health is below 0.
never heard of that before,
but whats about all those exits near the entrance?
sooo fast that guy
+anothga most likely rng manipulation, some way or another.
NONE FASTER. So, what was with the ring swap during lazarus fight?
This ring gave him negative life, wich allow him to pass trough enemy attack, and keep the mana for attack.
He have to remove it before town, because the mana shield disapear at town, and it would have killed him if he was on negative life
Speedrun vs fastwalk
lol very nice speedrun. Is this a TAS? If so you should add "TAS" to the title so people looking for RTS won't post stupid comments.
What I find suspicious is how the stairs to the next level is located exactly next to the previous one on the first 10 or so stages, but appart from that its pretty damn impressive.
ya don't say. You mean that doesn't happen all the time to you on every single dungeon? HMMMM what are the chances of that....
This speedrun is segmented, think about that.
I view it as two different ways to beat the game. One is to use any tool the game gives you. The other is to play the game how it was intended to.
how stupid people are? in the description he even wrote all all tricks wich he used. Everyone with Diablo 1 on his computer could do the same.... there are no cheats...
+Lisa Stern eveyone can also download Hacks and use them Good arguement.
Okay, how do he managed to teleport? I couldn't get that part
You contradict yourself. Clock set = use of external program, it can't be done in game.
No, the 32-bit UNIX timestamp stops at January 19, 2038.
I guess Adria really senses a soul in search of answers.
Don't feel bad, it took me 8 weeks and 1 day.

How did you do that?
Das sind Glitches und Tricks, steht doch in der Info. Wenn du nicht weißt was Glitches sind dann Google das.
Ahhh that music!
I dont understand whats the problem here, this is what a speedrun looks like. This is not a playthrough.
Can this hold the tittle of "Speedrun"?
I mean most of speedruns aren't video edited like this in way to make it looks shorted when they already took over THOUSAND OF TIMES to get the correct advantage/circumstances in every level/scenery.
That's why they are called "segmented". It's not done in one run. It puts together the best parts.
Why this is not on speeddemosarchive if this is faster than Groobo's run?
Sardun If you watch the begining you will see the character name is Groobo
Smileyz Well didn't notice that but still, my point is that this run isn't on speeddemosarchive, the 3:12 sec is on the site.
So how long did this take to make in real time?
Aldaris?
TAS is a misnormer however for this I realize. But they are not hacks. They are manipulating luck to get the required items and the shortest route.
Yeah, i've never once seen the entrance to the next level right beside the door to the previous level.
this isnt legal he cuts from around the last level of the caverns right thru hell, so this isnt.
How can he beat the boss when he is lvl2 or so???
stairs are always right next to each other, kind of, they are always close though.
thats not realistic. all of the down stairs are never right next to each other like that
The voice at the end,. Is that Ben 10's dad?
Actually, no. Speedruns using glitches are often frowned upon as they require less skill
Any glitch but no third party software right?
Then after all that, our character turns insane and betrays the town.Fucking shit, man.
what is this game about?
Maphacks will tell you where the exit is. Luck manipulation will make the map the way you want it to be.
just wondering v1.00?
DO PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT A FUCKING SPEEDRUN IS? It isn't just "playing through the game quickly". You take every single advantage you can find, which a lot of the time includes glitches.
I'd assume that not using any game glitches or bugs would be the correct way of doing a speedrun. Otherwise, it's just about who can abuse the game the most!
Or so Ithink, at least.
Frowned upon by who? You?
when it comes to the time-saving glitches it often takes way more skill to abuse the game properly at speed. it's just a difference of goals.
if you round up ya its just about 20 years old, but technically its only 16 years old exactly which is close to 15.

YOUR MADNESS ENDS--..
It would be much more interesting to see a TRUE speedrun with originally randomized big levels and such.
wtf all the entrances to deeper levels are next to eachother o_o
what is SDA?
